(+) What I appreciated most were the prices for the arcade (a quarter for most, some still only $0.50), classic cost for classic games. That makes it so much more accessible to try different ones. I also like the old school way of dropping quarters in the slot. (+) Huge space, variety of stuff, a few pinball machines, some shooting games (love Time Crisis and Area 51), sports, driving, fighting etc. (+) Great local alternative to big name entertainment places where you have to buy a game card, swipe, then quickly realize after a very short time you've run out of credit for the overpriced gameplay. This store is fantastic. They carry just about every vintage game and you could imagie, from old school NES and Seaga master system all the way up to current games. They also carry used movies and half of the store is a cintage arcade that ony costs $0.25 per play. I bring my kids here and they can hang out for hours. The store was really cool and has a tooooon of stuff that you cant really find anywhere else. We got a nintendo 64 for a great price and it's modded so you can have japanese imported games work on it as well as american games. You can't find a deal better anywhere else for this. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is because the staff seemed a little nervous talking to customers (not approaching us automatically or asking questions) and not confident with their register system. HOWEVER, once you got them started on talking about games or a system, you can see these guys are passionate. read more

I've attempted to check this place out twice now. Closed both times despite hours on google and yelp showing open. First time showed up to a sign saying they were closed for the rest of the week. Ok maybe there was an emergency of some sort the owner had to close for or life came up. I get it. Two weeks later I drive down and this time no sign on the door and still closed. Is this place temporarily closed/permanently closed??? I hear great things about it but have yet to find out for myself. It would be considerate if you would update hours or at least your phone system to reflect that you are not in fact open. I'll update this review upon whenever I can check the place out. read more

The new location is so convenient, just a few hundred feet away from Studio Movie Grill, and the new owner is one of the nicest people I've ever chatted with. Before you read this, just know that my biggest frustration came from not being acknowledged or helped throughout the duration of our visit. We needed a wiiu controller for a party. Just one Nintendo generation back but we can't find it at Best Buy, GameStop, etc. We stopped by to check their inventory and everything up front on display is current generation only and not much peripheral inventory around. So we did the patient patron ritual and stood around waiting for the employee to finish up their conversation with their current customer. For 10 minutes of silent waiting just behind their customer. I hate being the customer that steps in and demands attention so I do the ritual. A nod, a glance, some kind of acknowledgment that you understand we are waiting on your attention. So we awkwardly left once it became clear that conversation was going into 20 minutes. I get the current customer is priority but retail customer service is as much about juggling multiple patrons as it is assisting the one you are talking to at the moment. read more

The Game Exchange has been a staple of Simi's gamer retail scene for as long as I'm able to remember, with my first experience being over or around 15 years ago. Though it endured over the years, I found myself choosing to do business elsewhere more and more frequently, eventually stopping altogether, as the store, in my opinion, progressively lost what had made it a must-shop location for my somewhat more niche gaming needs... After having since moved on years prior, I happened to find myself in the same shopping center it has been situated in since having moved from its prior location years previously, and with a bit of time on my hands with which to pay a revisit. To my surprise, I found the shop had managed to do a complete one-eighty turnaround from the lackluster direction it had been heading, and had once again become a gaming store in a league above and beyond the one comprising of the average franchise ElectriGame Boutiquestop shoppers can find next to every Starbucks in every strip mall in every suburb in every locale. The selection of products available is great - featuring older cartridge formats like the NES, Genesis, SNES, and, as far as I know, every iteration of Gameboy to date, they carry disc-based software for more recent last-gen consoles like PS2, Xbox, Gamecube and the Wii. And, for those interested, they also have games to choose from for the modern platforms like PS3, PS4, the 360, Xbox One, and Wii U. On the hardware side of the matter, the shop carries a diverse selection of OEM options, as well as a few alternatives I don't see carried at the more mainstream places. The games in stock are constantly rotating as they are sold and brought in, so, at least for the no longer supported systems, luck plays at least somewhat of a role in finding a specific title, but the store carries enough stock that there's always certainly at least a good amount of great games to be had, and I've found more than my share of personal gems to excitedly snap up, bring home, and slap in for some quality playtime. I find the prices they charge for games to be extremely fair, especially when one considers the fact that the Internet is an overwhelming source of competition. One any particular item, is it possible to find a better price? Perhaps, but usually not enough to warrant any regret after shipping is taken into account, and the item being bought's condition is readily apparent, and can be supported locally after purchase should any unforeseen issue arise. Plus the benefit of supporting local business and keeping sales tax within the community is a definitely plus, in my opinion. The staff member I've encountered have been great so far, and the store's managing owner seems to be passionate about conducting business in an honest, open, and friendly manner - something I personally appreciate a great deal. While some of the employees are more knowledgable about something than others, each seems to bring some different insight on specific parts of the inventory. Regardless, each member has been very friendly and eager to provide assistance. I also can't attest firsthand to the quality of repairs which are offered on iPhone devices - I brought in an iPhone 5, or whatever, with a completely destroyed screen, and had it replaced in just a few minutes and was charged lower than what I had expected the total to be. After getting it home, I was able to set it up as though it had never been abused and busted. Nifty. To sum this rambling up - This is a great place to buy your games, and is putting in the effort to build and maintain a reputation for solid customer satisfaction. Plus they have two arcade machines up and running for single quarter credits - a Killer Instinct box, and a candy cab running some variation of a Capcom "xx Vs. xx" series. This place is sweeeeeet! N64 games up the wazoo. Friendly and knowledgable owner (I think his name is Joe). A true gem for vintage video game lovers. I know, I know.... N64 isn't really considered "vintage" but if I recall correctly Im pretty sure he did have some Snes games along with newer stuff like gameboy, game cube and so on. This place is a little bit of a drive for me but I will most definitely be coming back here! P.S- this dude had Mario kart and DK for 64 IN THE BOX when I was there last. Totally radical!!!!! Excellent! As a new resident in simi and an avid retro gamer I decided to check this place out. I was pleasantly surprised! The owner is a friendly stand up guy who engages the customers and makes them feel welcome, unlike other small unique stores you don't get the feeling that you aren't welcome if you don't know every single thing about gaming which really appealed to my wife. The game selection is vast and the range of consoles available was amazing too! I purchased myself a SNES worth a few games and felt the pricing was very reasonable. Seriously the coolest gaming store I've ever been to! Stocked with every game you can possibly imagine for every system that's been around, and all at a fair price. The owner has a really cool space, is incredibly kind, and is holding such exciting events for the community. Long story short, my boyfriend and i found our old nintendo ds lites and came across this shop while looking for more games to play. Boyfriend bought a game he wasn't really enjoying so we went back the next day to see if we could exchange it. After not seeing any dc stuff on the floor, i asked for dreamcast stuff, and there it was, a sf 3 alpha for Dreamcast. Joe gave me a deal and even lowered a price on another of my lot for me. Love this place. Easily a 5 star joint. only lowered it to a 4 before as my drive was a complete mess getting here. They've moved, and now next to studio movie grill, a quaint spot, but much larger and ready to handle larger crowds. A few neat rotating displays with n64/gb games or ps1 games to check out. A huge screen in back, ready to accommodate pros, gaming parties and can't forget the couple of large arcade machines as you walk in, plus sonic 2 is always on ready to play for free. I drove out from Santa Clarita, the first time, and it was closed... with a note stating that the store will open later. When it should have been opened. The second time, I drove out to take my daughter out to Underwood pumpkin patch, and was in the area. I noticed prices are very high on the Nintendo retro games compared to other retro game stores, and accessories. So I did not bother checking out the other stuff. Selection was paper thin on retro side. Place was clean and had cool arcades, however, location of the retro games was a pain to get at. The young man was very nice, and had good customer service behind the counter, but overall, not impressed. read more
