This place is great. I'm in town a few time a year and I make it a point to check out what they have in stock. The owner is a nice guy. He has a passion for video games. This place is awesome. Joseph sold my friend and I a Nintendo 64 as a repair for only 30 bucks. He said that we didn't even need to bring in our old one which is usually policy. We brought back our old one anyway. It's not like we were going to use it. That makes Joseph a cool guy in my book. read more

Joe is the best around!! Long story short I bought a cheap busted up Playstation 3 on letgo so I could play some childhood favorite games again without breaking the bank. Right after purchasing the PS3 I went into the game exchange looking for the necessary power cable, controller charging cable, and a couple games which I figured they would be harder to find sense they were from the older generation consoles. I told Joe my situation and what I was looking for, and he then asked if I had the PS3 with me and I did sense I had just purchased it and he then told me to bring in the PS3 so he could test it and open it up and look at it himself sense he is the professional. However, keep in mind he didn't have to do that at all, but he went out of his way to inspect it to insure his customers happiness! After removing the panel and inspecting the inside he proceeded to fix the outside of the playstation that was bent out of shape out of the kindness of his heart and he also had all the necessary cables I was looking for! I am so beyond annoyed with this place! We have been there twice with the promise that they will "call" us when they get the game we wanted. Not even the courtesy call to say "yes we got it" or "no we can't get it". Nothing! Poor customer service. I am done! I will take my business elsewhere!!! read more

The Game Exchange is a store you can keep coming back to and find some of your old favorites. It's a retro gaming wonderland. The staff is always super friendly and they definitely know their stuff. I usually go for their Sega Genesis games and their selection isn't as expansive as I'd like, but I like that I can try the game out in store and I really like the experience of visiting the store and finding "new" things that have come in. read more

I came here to look for some retro video games (Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo). As expected the selection was very scarce. The prices on the games they did have really bothered me. $20 for Toe Jam & Earl for the Sega Genesis! Seriously? As a game hunter, I expect to get a better bargain going into a game store than getting it on eBay. I checked the average "buy it now" price on ebay and it's also $20! Yes, Game Exchange is using eBay pricing! This is a mortal sin for any re-seller to do. Great way to scare off any new clients. Won't be coming here for any games. read more

Mom and pop video game shops that carry retro games and peripherals alongside modern titles and systems are a rarity these days, but The Game Exchange has stayed in business because they always have something cool in stock and the employees will hook you up with whatever you're looking for. I've bought controllers you can't get at a GameStop, not just because they're older, but I even picked up a custom 360 controller with a modified power light. And where else can you find N64 games (much less GoldenEye, which I purchased the day I saw it)? To top it off everybody behind the counter is just so chill, they love games and they want to serve their customer base that has kept them afloat for so long. I was looking for NES, SNES, Genesis and Game Boy titles and they had a nice selection to choose from. They had even more gems in the back that they gladly retrieved for me to rummage through. A clean, professional atmosphere and Larry was so helpful. I will definitely come back! read more

I was recommended to this place to get my game system fixed. The owner was very nice, accommodating, and listened to my issues when we first met. He gave me a time line of when the system would be fixed. Great! I was excited to find this awesome place and to nerd out on all these old school games! I've worked in the customer service industry for 13 years so I have some understanding of promising customers certain dates and following up with a customer if there are any changes. When the period of time to fix the system went by (which was about 2 weeks) I called the store and the owner said the system was all finished and will be ready for pick up on a Wed. I drove over on my lunch break that day to find out it wasn't there and the owner wasn't going to be there that day until after closing. I was slightly annoyed but decide to call again to see when it would be available for pick up. It went down hill after. Every single time I called I would get nonsense from his employees. They would say things like "he will call you back by this time" and "the owner will hand deliver the game system to my house" or "the owner is in a meeting". It went on for about a week like this with empty promises that he will contact me in some way. That never happened. I know the owner knew I was calling and all he needed to do was say "I'm sorry, I was mistaken. The system is not ready" yet he never took any responsibility for it. I had to find out when he would be at the store and left him a nasty message that i'll be there at this time and my game system better be there. I understand that it is just a game system however being the owner of a company he should understand that follow up with the customer is key. He just disappeared off of the face of the earth and I had to turn into an unpleasant person to him and his employees to get some type of answer. Moral of the story is that if you do decide to let this store fix your system don't expect the system back right away and don't trust his timeline of when it will be fixed. And the owner needs to learn to not make promises he can't keep. If he can't follow through with something, follow up with the customer and let them know this. He takes down our phone number so it is not like he couldn't contact customers. Most of the time customers will be ok with it. Maybe take better notes? I was planning on purchasing a few things from there but after that experience i'll never be back. read more

Wow Joseph is awesome! Brought it in Xbox with the disk drive stuck in the out position, i thought it was broken and I thought it could be pricey. My sister called ahead of time and sat on the phone with Joseph for 10 minutes while he clearly explained our options, he told me to bring it in. I love how large and open this new location is! The free to play arcade games and air hockey table are fun to use when you just want to kill a little time. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and has never been push with me. I love how willing they are to help me figure out exactly what I am looking for, even when I cannot recall the name of a particular game or item! They even helped me find a great deal online and had it shipped to their store for me! I look forward to seeing the completion of the arcade and any other fun events to come from The Game Exchange! I've been looking for Left 4 Dead 2 (360) for some time now. Went to 3 different Game Stop locations, each charging nearly $40! For a game that's so old, that's ridiculous. Joseph is my hero! I had purchased a refurbished Macbook on eBay that arrived damaged. Could not get repaired by seller so I took it to a computer repair shop here in Simi. I knew it had a short but could not repair it myself. Twice the other shop looked at it. They eventually told me they could not repair it. I was in Game Exchange for another reason and Joseph mentioned that he fixes computers, so I brought my Macbook in and ta-da! He was able to repair it, it works great and he charged me a very reasonable price. I will definitely come back to him for computer repairs, phone repairs, game repairs and of course, game purchases. The place is a ripoff if you are trying to sell them your items. The owner, Joseph, totally tried to rip me off when I told him what I wanted to sell. I have a GameCube in perfect condition, a controller, all cables, a memory card, a GameBoy Player, and about 17 games. In those games are some of the most popular Mario games made for GameCube. Joseph offered me $60 for everything. I said screw it. I started selling my stuff on eBay and has been phenomenal. I have made nearly double what Joseph offered me and I have only sold 5 things, not including the actual console! It is way better to sell on eBay and get more money for your stuff. I would suggest you look into it before just selling right to Joseph. You deserve the most for your items and your most definitely are not going to get that with these people. read more

The owner Joe is nice enough but doesn't follow through on some things. My son was looking for a xbox 360 and brought some stuff to trade in for it to bring the cost down a bit.. Joe took pictures and said he would get back to us in a couple of days. 2 1/2 weeks later and 2 or 3 phone calls he still has not priced out trade in stuff and he went on vacation which means my son is without the xbox 360 for even longer this summer. Its a shame because our experience started out very promising. Maybe Joe will get on the ball and I can upgrade this review or write a better one later. Maybe Gamestop is better after all! read more
