I have been a customer of Marty's Hobbies for over 10 years and can confidently say they are one of the best hobby shops in Southern California. They are always fully stocked with the largest RC cars and trucks and almost always have every color option available. To preface this review does not represent what I felt from the establishment as a whole. I'm simply expressing what I felt from an individual employee. Dustin or Justin (I couldn't tell from the non enthusiastic mumbled tone). "Helped" me out today. As a new RC enthusiast, I thought I would be greeted with a warm welcome, as I read on countless review's before. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Dustin (Justin?) brushed off my questions and gave a cold shoulder overall. *I bought a $200 rc from the store and still received a cold departure. I'm not asking for much, but what I do ask for is decent customer service. I know $200 may not be a lot to most people, but it is to me and the customer service or rather lack of ,turned me off from coming back to this establishment. I can only hope that management will hire more warm and welcoming employees to further encourage people to enjoy this hobby and not feel judged or incompetent. TLDR: Cold and unwelcoming experience. I'm a dad with no RC vehicle experience. The team at Marty's helped my kids and I fix our RC trucks without making us feel like a noobs (which we are). We bought replacement parts and installed them in store. The team lent us tools and gave enough guidance to complete the repairs. Pepper the cat is a talented RC tech, but is also quite good at customer service. She was able to help my wife understand the value of RC trucks in terms of the positive impact on the local economy and the benefits to young children who have ambitions to become engineers. read more

Honestly, really great guys here. I've been a fan of Marty's hobbies for the past 18 years and just recently I started coming to their bigger new location to test out the crawling course. Without asking their expertise, I started building my own crawler, and it didn't go so well so I asked for advice, and they gave me a bunch of great tips, and I ended up buying a Traxxas TRX 4 from them, and it's been really a great time. Purchased my son's gift at another hobby shop equally as far from our home in West LA but the down fall was that when we purchased the spendy rc truck they failed to let us know the charger that comes with it was garbage and only a DC vehicle charger. So we drove to Marty's and purchased a proper charger. Staff was very friendly and the owner was communicative. The selection here was by far superior to any rc hobby shop I've ever been to. They fixed my RC car's broken bumper screws while I was there (during a vacation from Northern CA) and sold me a battery pack for which they changed the connector on the fly. It's a big store with all the rc things you would need but employees are useless. I've been in the hobby but never had a Traxxas truck. Asked an employee if I could use the batteries I already had but he laughed and said it would catch on fire. The thing is using any other battery is fine you just need the correct connector. Needed a servo for my Reflex 14b. Older gentlemen looked it up on Monday. Offered me either direct replacement or a metal geared one that was same price. Opted for metal geared. It ended up being the wrong part. No problem at all, mistakes happen and we're human. Not upset at all. What made this scream terrible customer service is the worker I'm picking the part up from. Dude completely blames me for the other guy ordering the wrong part, assuming I'M the one that gave a part number. Then goes back in time to a previous order in which the wrong color buggy was special ordered and blames that on me too. "This is getting ridiculous, order after order after order" Such a shame as I'm always trying to support local shops when possible. Willing to pay a little extra and waiting a little longer if it means supporting small businesses. People like this make it difficult. read more

Large store where you can have fun with your crawler in the course they build, but don't go here to have anything repaired. 6 weeks Later I picked up my cars and nothing was still done. Took them back and fixed them myself. Also watch out for Alex he'll sell you rc's out of your skill level and sell you $1300 remote that never worked and is now discontinued. read more

Normally a 2 due to the size of the selection regarding what we normally look for, however, will give 3.5 stars this time because we actually found a couple of things that we bought and one of them was at a fabulous price! This is a spacious store because of the remote control car racetrack, however, the selection of (immobile, non-remote control) models is quite small. My fiance' specifically likes airplane models, but the selection isn't big at all. But to our surprise, he found something he wanted and at a fabulous price on top of it. He also found a magazine he's never seen anywhere else, so he left the store a happy camper! Unfortunately, the location is way too far for us to go to on any regular basis and it's kind up there in a hilly area. read more

I am Caucasian but my friend is Chicano. They seemed to be afraid of us . Even though my friend trying to ask questions and complimented the store with total respect. Like I was bothering the young kid. It feels like they hate coming out from behind that counter to help customers. So unless I absolutely have to I rather order my needs on line. This shop was staffed with helpful and knowledgeable help. These folks were great for troubleshooting a problem I was having with my R/C Traxxas boat, explaining what may be the problem, then explaining what the problem actually was, and then offered a reasonably priced solution (new battery), and even offered advice to preserve battery life. Great customer service, and from what I could see it was stocked with many cool and fun looking products. read more

Nice place but their customer service is awful and they don't know anything about drones, only cars and planes. Having been a drone enthusiast and also a Part 107 pilot, I was really happy we had a local place to go to. Today I went in to talk about my lipo charger which I bought from them a year ago to tweak some settings and the sales person cut me off time after time when I needed only one question answered. He kept trying to explain to me the basics of charging with the charger which I found funny as he didn't even know the basic settings. He then lied to me and said I needed to buy a better charger which would cost over $300 which was false. This guy is supposed to know his drones as he's also a drone pilot but I found him incompetent and arrogant. One other experience I had was with another "kid" working up front who tried to tell me his professional experience with DJI drones saying he was getting 5-6 miles of range in a WiFi congested area which is completely false. Never going here again. They're just a bunch of high school dropouts that work here and don't know much. read more
