Good selection although I was misinformed the gentleman in the counter said the $80 kit was the same as $140 dollar kit claiming it was just a "German box" which was false the other one came with a stand a 2 separate engines. Anyways he tried to upsell some more products on me like glue he said the glue I had wouldn't suffice and I should get "this one" surprise suprise the glue I use is good enough. read more

Yes, it's nice to still have a hobby store around town, however, when I called them to ask about some HO Scale electronics, the guy gave me an unwanted lecture about why he didn't have what I asked about. This is a small hobby store, but they are packed with car, military and train models and supplies. I wish it were bigger and had a few more craft-type things, but it's so hard to find a good store like this I'm very thankful we have them even though the space is small. I've come here for help with a variety of projects and the guys that work here have good suggestions for products that will do what I need. Easy parking, located very close to the 101 in a strip-mall that's mostly dead but don't let that fool you. :) read more

I honestly went here and then I saw the owner looking at me sternly. I approached him and told him I was looking for supplies for my sturmgeschutz IV. He said well do you have the box and I said no while trying to pull up my phone for a picture on the internet. I said sorry its loading and he said that it would be easier if I had it on me. Horrible service, not helpful and obviously does not care about customers needs.. I went in looking for some universal items that happen to be use for r/c cars. The employee (I'm assuming the owner) simply replies to my question with "I don't do r/c's". Ok I understand but we found a item that will work for for my application. This hobby shop is a treasure for the Ventura area. There is no other shop like it in the area. Great inventory. Of course you can get similar products on line. But at Ventura Hobbies, you get great, patient advice and tips about the construction of the kits they sell. I recently bought an airplane kit there and the owner made great suggestions on some supplies to buy that greatly simplified the construction. You don't get that on line. read more

Quite possibly the best hobby shop in southern California. They may not be as diverse as some shops, but if your focus is model building, this place is a Mecca. The staff are truly passionate, knowledgeable and can answer any questions. They do have some RC aircraft as well. He did mention he can do special ordering, which is cool, but with amazon and ebay, its an outdated service. Pricing is way too high, its a 30% mark up from other hobby shops/amazon/ebay The guy that runs the place, Vern, made me feel like I HAD to buy what I was looking for (Traxxas ID charger). Something that costs $50 anywhere else but he priced it at $65. I didn't appreciate that kind of pressure. I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone. I used to do scale modeling and RC stuff a lot when I was younger. What a surprise to find out that there is still a great little hobby shop in Ventura! I found everything I needed to get back into the game. Paints, models, glues, tools, accessories, etc. etc. Yes I can go online and get most of the same stuff, sometimes online is cheaper, sometimes online is more expensive. Apon entering the store there was a gentlemen named vern who greeted us. He didn't make any rude comments,he didn't lack assisting help or guidance to purchasing, and he shared opinions and tips on certain models. All the negative comments are coming from people who complain that he's not wearing a mask or wants $85 to build a model, I think they need to grow up and get out of the fake world. I asked him how much for him to build a toy plane but, I think it's cheaper to buy a real one since he said it's $85 an hour and it takes about 100 hours to build one. Vern is extremely helpful & he always wants to make sure you have everything you need when you need to build a model. If you don't have the necessary items to build your model then it won't come out very good. Plus how many hobby shops do you know have built models for the manufacturer, (Lindberg). Vern always tries to encourage people in there model building & he wants you to be successful so he takes the time to ask questions in order to help you be successful in your build. Those that post negative reviews have there head up there ass & can't stand to be taught anything new. I highly recommend this hobby shop for all your hobby needs because he's going to help you make your kit & not scrap! All model builders like to build at there comfort level & Vern tries to help stretch your model building abilities. This includes rocket building, model trains & other hobbies. I always love coming to the hobby store. I know that I could probably get all or most of it online but I feel the need to support a hobby shop. The same owner had a shop in Santa Barbara that I used to love to go to. But sadly it closed and unless I want to go to Michaels to go through their Meager selection of cars and paints, I would rather take that dreaded drive the 101 to Johnson drive to Ventura hobbies! The owner or person working the counter is a up-sale machine but once u get past that he is very knowledgeable and doesn't talk down to noobs that have basic questions like some hobby shop owners do. I always end up picking something new up from him. Today it was a file for my model cars. The selection of things he has to offer are nice. From trains to ships to cars to boats and way more than I can remember. Sadly I seem to alway head to the model cars I know he carries so much more. Deb and I were on our way to the coast for the weekend so I looked to see if there were any hobby shops on our way. This place sounded good in the review I read so we stopped here. For someone who makes plastic model airplanes, finding a place that has more then just a few is hard. Well this place has way more then a few. They have a whole lot, in 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72, and even a few 1/24. And to make it even better they are not all new modern kits. They have a good selection of vintage kits also. I walked away with 2 kits. An older hobby boss huey and an Eduard Mig-21, both in 1/48th. I got them for a good price, not as good as you can get online, but online you can't fondle the box or break it open within minutes of choosing it. Nor can you find older kits. I like supporting local hobby shops when I can because it makes getting supplies faster. If you are in the area and like model building you should visit this place. read more

This is the only hobby shop in ventura. VERN is a great owner and the shop has ever thing from vintage to modern at the best prices. He carries a lot of seasonal stuff for the kids and we have used his pine wood derby kits in scouts for years. Rocket kits and planes are all there. He beats Michaels prices most of the time.
