I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw there was an open Hallmark. I had to go in because of the nostalgia of visiting Hallmark stores in the mall when I was a teen and young adult. I thought all Hallmarks had closed and so I haven't been to one in 20+ years. The store was large and they sold more items than I remembered. They had a clothing boutique section immediately on the right when you enter. They still have gifts broken up in sections like gifts for "him", "her", "baby" and kids. The back wall had Christmas decor marked at 75% off and my visit was the last week of February. They had a religious section, figurines, Easter decor and gifts and home decor that was beach themed. The sales clerks were friendly and greeted me when I entered and another one greeted me as I walked around. The store is clean, organized and was pretty big inside. I didn't buy anything but it's nice to know that if I am having a hard time to buy a gift for someone, I can come here and find something for everyone. read more

A rack clearly stated 75% this rack only Christmas clothing. Checking out and the discount didn't apply apparently the red jacket I was purchasing can now be considered Valentine's Day apparel. I do not think that was fair. They didn't honor clearly what the sign said. FYI I would have purchased that jacket at full price the money is not the point, but the principal of this situation. read more

My husband had some time to kill a few weeks ago while waiting to pick up the grandkids from a nearby school so he went into this store and was just amazed at everything in it! He couldn't wait to come home to tell me about it so we went yesterday and wow, he was so right! The store is so beautifully decorated for the holidays and SO many gift options PLUS there is a boutique with clothing! I found a gorgeous reversible shawl that I couldn't resist, especially since it was 30% off! And the staff was very helpful even though the store was so busy! We'll definitely be going back soon! read more

I love this Hallmark shop. When I'm in town I always stop by. This month I went to see their Halloween merchandise and sale items. The lovely salesclerk helped me find the right size on a great sale item. They also have a great selection to browse through. I can't wait to go back in October. read more

This is such a sweet place. I love coming here for the cards. But they have SO MANY cute gifts. I could just be around this store for a long time, looking at all their gifts. GETTING HERE: This location is in the Vons/CVS strip mall across from Buena High School. It's closer to Vons than the CVS actually. Do some gift shopping here then treat yourself to Menchie's after. REVIEW: I love this Hallmark! It has Christmas ornaments, Vera Bradley, and local Ventura items/souvenirs; just to name a few. Staff is always friendly and the last time I visited I was perusing their Vera Bradley items in stock as I was looking for a specific item. The vibe in this store is amazing. The worker was so nice and welcoming, she complemented the jellycat I got and the 1 dollar stickers, there were plenty of Jellycats to choose from. I really like this place, I'm going to try to visit this place every time I visit my family. Seems like this location is a franchise or licensed location and so they don't follow the same return policy as Hallmark corporate. This is very inconvenient for customers because they have to travel all the way to Thousand Oaks to return items. I was told on the phone that because this is a licensed location they can "basically do whatever they want." This is not a very customer forward approach to running a business. read more

I have been to this location with friends before, but I decided to come alone to get a gift for my sister who gives birth soon. I know this store would have cute jelly cats (specially) so I stopped by. I was not greeted or even given a simple smile, just looked at, as the ladies at the register talked. I wasn't bothered by it, until I noticed each time a Caucasian customer came in or passed by the ladies at the register, they were given a smile and a warm welcome. When I was looking at purse charms, this lady at the register purposefully left her post to pass by me and act like she was going to the back. I turned around and saw she was looking at the purse charms I was looking at, as if to check if I had stolen (yes I am Mexican). I felt extremely uncomfortable and left. I don't recommend anyone of color to come to this store unless they want to feel like they're surveilled for stealing and made uncomfortable. read more

This is a great fun place to shop at you will find everything you didn't know you need and then some. I don't understand the negative complaints as I have never had a bad experience with customer service. Every single time I use this hallmark store I am treated like a 3rd class peasant. I purposefully watch and wait my turn. And I'm ignored and coldly waited on. I see the clerk being friendly and courteous to the next and previous obviously white customer. I just spent $100 again, and Nope it doesn't matter how friendly I am, I m still treated like a nuisance. I kindly remark about the stores abundant Cute selections and barely get a yup response. I've been coming here for a few years with no issued which is why i left two stars. I went last weekend to pick out our annual ornament for our tree and decided i wanted my son to pick out an ornament for his tree. However, this trip was disappointing and will result in my family and I not coming back. Within two minutes of coming into the store, the ladies at the front desk asked to take my baby bag, which looks like a backpack, but visually had his sippy cup on the side of the bag. They were very nice about it. However, there were only two other people in the store, it wasn't busy, and no signs were posted. They said it was because there were tight spaces and they didn't want anything being knocked over; so I handed our baby bag over, but both my husband and I did not feel that was the truth. We've been to the store many times with our stroller and baby bag and never had any issue. To back our feelings up, my husband told me afterward, he was asked if he was finding everything okay, in which he said yes thank you, and the woman goes mmmm. After that, he went outside with our son because he was crabby, and my husband was pissed. I continued to look around, not knowing about the subsequent interaction he had just had. I did end up buying my son's ornament, but we won't be going back. My husband and I are not easily bothered due to our line of work. At the end of the day, don't judge a book by its cover. We are extremely honest people and to be looked at otherwise is very upsetting. We both get it, but if backpacks, baby bags, or large purses aren't allowed, a sign should be posted. Ultimately, I don't think that was the case. I hope this review can be a learning experience for the store. read more

Visited this location today because I was sure they'd have Grinch decor. I ended up leaving because the customer service was appalling. I hadn't been in the section for 10 seconds before the Karen behind the busy register yelled twice at me if I needed help. I mean yelled- from across the room with customers in her line. I politely declined and she again, raised voice booming, that I needed to be careful because things were fragile and expensive. I have a track suit and sneakers on, a small backpack purse (about the size of lunch pail) on, and no makeup (but maybe it was the tattoo on my arm she didn't like). I've never shoplifted before and it appeared that I was being profiled. It angered me more than embarrassed me. But for a store that normally doesn't have a lot of customers, she definitely lost a paying one. PLEASE SHOP ELSEWHERE. THEY DON'T DESERVE YOUR MONEY. I just had the WORSE experience here. I never wrote reviews but I just had to let people know about this really older white lady at the cash register just now. First she didn't even greet me and my daughter and after she rung us up I asked if they did military discount and she acted like I asked something outrageous. When she said they didn't the other coworker said they did and she got even more pissed. When my daughter gave her her ID she was looking at it like it was fake. She finally gave the discount and threw our bag at us. I love Hallmark stores but this is the LAST time I am coming to Sue's Hallmark. And it's Christmas time too! After reading other reviews I am certain that this lady is a racist. She's so friendly to other white customers but just couldn't find it in her to have an ounce of courtesy for us. read more

The old white lady working the register 12/18 at around noon is the rudest and most racist lady ever. She was so nice to all the other white people and when it got to me I greeted her so friendly and she didn't even acknowledge it. NO GREETING and she doesn't like military because when asked if they gave military discount she was so off putting. It was just a question and you can easily say no and then when she finished ringing me up she just tossed my bag to me. She didn't say one pleasant thing to me. The person after me was white and I heard her greet them so friendly. I love hallmark but absolutely hate this one. In a world where people THINK they can buy EVERYTHING online, it's beautiful to see you can still walk into a classic store and purchase sentimental items at a great price. I absolutely LUV I can buy greeting cards for all occasions in Spanish! They mean so much to her I appreciate I can walk into the store at reasonable hours and fulfill me every need. The staff is always warm, friendly and accommodating. Everything about this store is absolutely amazing. Stocked with Greeting Cards, Stationary, gifts such as mugs, t-shirts, novelty items, and even kitchen decor. Prices are moderate, but if you sign up for the Gold Crown rewards program you will receive special offers and discounts via email or mail. Just once I would like to be treated as everyone else in this store. I've been here a few times as it's one of the only Hallmarks left, and every time I'm here I'm given a much less friendly treatment than all of the other shoppers. Yesterday was not much different. When I walked into the store I was several paces behind a couple of other women. They were greeted with a friendly welcome from an employee, yet as I walked in I was greeted by that same employee with a dirty look and a turn of the head. Cool, thanks. There were several shoppers in the store, and about 3 employees that I could see. Many of the shoppers were offered assistance, I was again met with dirty looks and silence. No help needed, so not too big of a deal, but rude nonetheless. I approached the counter to pay for my purchase. The person ahead of me was offered the opportunity to sign up for the rewards card. I thought cool I don't have one, I'll have to grab one when it's my turn. As I approached the counter I was met with an apprehensive gaze and a stuttered mumble asking if I had the rewards card. With a smile I said no I do not but would like one. The woman just stared at me looking terrified and gave me my total and my purchase and that was that. No rewards card, no thank you have a nice day. I covered the niceties for her. This isn't the 1st time I've been treated this way at this store. I know I didn't smell, I walked in with a smile, was actually feeling cute with my Valentine's Day outfit going on... hair and makeup to match. Maybe that's only acceptable if you're of a much more mature age, much like the employees, or a confused looking husband trying to find a last minute card, as they were all assisted in an appropriate fashion. I guess I'll stick to grocery stores for my cards. Not as big of a selection but at least nobody goes out of their way to be rude or unhelpful. No wonder all the Hallmark stores have disappeared. read more

My favorite place to look for cute and unique gifts. This place always soothes me even if I end up buying nothing, which is very rare. They always have the perfect something for every special occasion. The employees are so nice and helpful (without being a nuisance). It actually is a small store, but packed with goodies, take your time looking in every cranny. Their seasonal stuff is just so pretty. The smells and sounds of that store transport you to a zen garden. Get a membership card ( free) and you'll be able to redeem points. Rude, rude, rude. These older women have no personality, no customer service skills & are down right rude. If you have a miserable life, maybe you shouldn't be working where you have to interact with the public. I love Hallmark cards, but yet everytime I go in to this Hallmark I get the cold shoulder & rudeness. Here's a tip: maybe greeting your customers would be nice. Here's another tip:: not standing in back of the register & actually asking customers if they need help with something would be even nicer. I just found this Hallmark store not realizing that there was one left in Ventura. The clerk who answered the phone was very pleasant and went out of her way to go see if the card I was looking for was on the shelf without requiring me to drive all the way to the store. This little shop can be a great one stop gift shop. It has the typical hallmark fare, but in addition to all of the cards and ornaments, it's also a lovely little boutique with everything from jewelery, tops and purses (vera bradley), to home decor items. Things are constantly being brought in and the displays are changed frequently, so it seems like there's always something new too look at, whenever I go. I only shop at this store because it is the last one standing in Ventura. Each and every time the staff is so rude and self involved. Constantly having personal conversations loud enough for a customer to hear them at any spot in the store. No one says hello or asks if you're looking for anything in particular. Today was particularly frustrating because even when I was standing waiting to check out (there was no line) no one acknowledged that I was there. Two people where behind the counter, one again having a loud conversation with someone familiar who was heading for the door. I literally had to go up to the counter and say "ok I'm ready to check out now" to get her attention. Then i was treated with nothing but attitude. In addition, its customary to get the gold seal sticker (or at the very least be asked if you'd like them) when purchasing cards-- I bought 5-- and wasn't asked or given any. The shop in Thousand Oaks just may be worth the drive. read more
