While on the hunt for some particular shade of Bernat Blanket yarn, I thought that either this store, or the Camarillo one, would have a larger selection than in Moorpark. Dear Hubby and I were out at Ventura Harbor on a Sunday to beat the inland heat. It was an easy drive to swing by this location while heading in the general direction of home. I hadn't been to this location in a while. The visit proved to be a better experience than one of the previous time which I wrote about in another posting. The store was in good condition - stocked and clean. The yarn department is slightly larger than I remember. Since Joann's went out of business last year, it offered more opportunity for Michael's to step it up for the knitters and crocheters to have a bigger selection to choose from locally. I do try to support local businesses, versus ordering online. I was able to pick out several shades of my favorite yarn to purchase that day. Unfortunately, they weren't on sale. I had a coupon for one item at 30% off full price, so that helped. Also, apparently I look like a senior to anyone under 25 (well, I am, but still . . .), as the cashier applied a senior discount without being asked. All told, the price came out a little higher than I had hoped, but within an acceptable amount. Like many things that don't originate in the USA, tariff prices have affected yarn. What used to be $10 or $11 a skein is now $14. Ouch. This store, like many, have added self-checkout kiosks. I don't like them. I'd much rather interact with a human associate, and help save their jobs. Also, I had a couple of questions that a computer couldn't answer. As such, I had to wait in line longer to be able to speak with said associate. I'd say at a store that promotes creativity, forcing patrons to use the kiosks kills off some of the pleasure of thinking about creative endeavors. Our local store ran out of the items I needed. I placed an online order for this location and it was ready quickly. I wanted to do curbside pickup and was on my way. I parked in the curbside pickup spot, after waiting a couple minutes I started wondering if they'd gotten my order. I called and inquired about my order, the employee kindly stated their app stopped receiving curbside orders @ 5:30pm. She was so gracious and still brought out my order. I was so thankful because I needed all the items for the following day! I'd definitely come back, all the items were accounted for and packaged well. read more

Michaels has become my wife's new go to place for arts and crafts supplies since the closure of JoAnns which was much closer to our home. It is very busy during the holidays and the staff seemed to be a bit stressed but they were very helpful. We found what we were looking for and paid a fair price. read more

I think things are way overpriced . Almost $5 for a bag with no tissue . It was the biggest one I could find and it's so plain . Then a lady cut in front of me to talk to the cashier . I bought my daughter balloons for her birthday and needed to inflate them with helium. After searching online, I discovered that Michael's now offers helium! We brought a few large balloons to inflate, and the staff informed us that the cost depends on the balloon's size. We ended up inflating three large balloons and a couple of small ones. I think it's a great place to stop and get balloons inflated. They also have a wide variety of arts and crafts supplies. The service was excellent--very helpful and friendly. I appreciate the staff's kindness towards my children; they even gave my son a free balloon, which made his day. read more

Why do they bother with having different pickup options? I went in today to pick up my order because it was ready, and I couldn't find it anywhere on the shelf. Obviously it was not ready. I tried to ask for help but the employees paid no mind to me and focused on people checking out instead. I need these supplies for my class and these workers had no sense of urgency nor did they seem to care. So I went back to my car to do curbside. They do not respond to curbside pickups on time. I waited too long and I didn't get all my items. Tried calling the store multiple times today. They never answer and the machine automatically hangs up on you. This store never disappoints, specially during the holiday season. If you like decorations whether it's for your tree or around the house, they have plenty and for such a good price. Most of their Christmas stuff already at 60% off. Cute seasonal crafty stuff to keep the little ones entertained. I appreciate their Hanukkah stuff but I wish it was more varied. I absolutely love Michaels. I always find interesting things and good deals obviously! I can spend hours there and be able to create so much with the things they have. Today I went there because I had a reward that I wanted to use. I wasnt sure what I was going to get but I wanted to make sure to use so it doesnt expire as usual. I looked at some photo acrylic frames which were really nice. It was only a $1. As i was looking around, one of the Store employees, his name was Elder, he approached me and asked If I was looking for a mirror because they have a nice one in the store. He thought I was looking for decorating my house so I said sure, He said it was $5!! The mirror was a steal!! It was only $5 but its worth $80-100. I needed a mirror for my other room. Oh Michaels. Michaels Michaels Michaels. I guess I have a pretty strong hate/love relationship with you. Every time I come here, and usually leave w/o buying anything because of the monstrous, horrendous lines, I always promise myself I will never return! But then it's Fall yall, and because October and Halloween and black cats, I come back with my tail between my legs. No pun intended. :) 9/10 times the line of customers is wrapped around to the front entrance of the store. It is painfully obvious this store/management care ZERO about customer service. The line is a mess; the cashiers are rude; it's a joke. Entirely. But, I also just bought a planner and have been introduced to the wonder and world of washi tape. So, I will brave all the terrible elements with Michaels to check their clearance areas (also disorganized and looks like crap) for washi tape. Not sure what the appeal is for me here. Wish I was more crafty and could endure their crap but my patience is very thin. There was an abusive customer that she handled beautifully, supporting her staff member who was verbally abused and setting limits with the customer. Job well done! I'm giving them a 5 stars rating because of their framing department! What incredible service! Can't remember the gals name who helped me but she was great! I brought in a large collage of photos that I had created online and needed it framed for my husbands birthday and while it wasn't cheap... it was worth every penny! I went back in to pick it up two weeks later and it was beautiful! John was working the counter at that time and he was very helpful with assisting me in choosing the right easel-he showed me where the easels were on the different aisles and explained why one would be better than the other etc... after helping me choose he had me go upfront to pay and brought my framed picture to the front for me while I was in line. So I just went into Michael's in Ventura. I went to self checkout and accidentally scanned an extra item. I waited more than 20 mins for an assistant to help me fix the problem and they never came. I pushed the button for them to help...I ended up just paying for the extra item because I felt bad taking up other shoppers time seeing that the lines were getting packed. I was very impressed with the customer service at this Michael's. I went in with my grandchildren to look for a Kid's Thanksgiving craft project. As soon as we entered the store, Karina asked us if we needed help. She wasn't sure if the store had any Thanksgiving craft supplies left, but took the time to help us look. Sure enough, we were able to find some, and they were even on sale. Nicole helped us check out and was very friendly and welcoming. Being seven month pregnant, I've been instructed to stay hydrated and I brought a cup of cranberry juice with me. Thinking nothing of it - as COVID restrictions and signage have mentioned nothing about personal beverages... Manager Maddy/Maddie/Matty (not sure) walked up to my husband and I and said they did not allow "open beverages on the floor". When I said "okay", she persisted to communicate it as an issue. Okay. I like that Micheals carries some art supplies that you cannot find anywhere else in Ventura. They have a good selection of oil pastels, soft pastels and knitting materials. Their art canvas is of good quality and come in almost any size. The only concern with Micheals is they don't answer the phone, and their website ordering doesn't work so you do have to go in and risk them being out of your art materials. I still gave 5 stars because without a Micheals you're going to have to go all the way to hobby lobby to find your art supplies. read more

I placed an order so my husband could pickup the order and he was given the worst customer service! The one guy, that was working the frame dept., he asked him if he can call someone to get help in the embroidery dept., since my order was not yet ready. My husband figured he will get my item and checkout. The man replied with "what's your problem dog". In which my husband said I am not your dog and I was asking for help. The rep then walked away mumbling. My husband then asked the register lady and for help and she replied with a smart-alike remark. So he left frustrated. I was having a hard time with my three year old while in store and at self checkout. So I was already stressed when one of the items I had purchased rescanned itself. I tried canceling the item, but the screen on self checkout said wait for a team member. That team member Janell was taking her sweet time getting to me. I decided to leave and if they asked questions I would show the receipt that I had paid for all the items. Well Janell... finally started making her way over as I was leaving and said I didn't pay for the item. I told her I did and she started arguing with me. Told her I would show her the receipt. I wasn't calm or nice, but it was obvious that I was already stressed out with my three and one year old. She waved me off and added a snide comment, but I ignored it. Then my three year old decided to act up again and as I was scolding him, she added the comment, "wow, how nice of you to take it out on your kid." Ended up asking for the manager and Janell started apologizing at this point, but attacking a mother when she is already stressed and at her threshold is so uncalled for and wasn't needed. I have a love and a strong dislike for this store. Admittedly, I enjoy roaming through the isle of Michael's and all the creative energy it brings me. Especially during the holidays. What I dislike is the check out process which always frustrates me every time. No matter the length of the line, they are always only 1 to 2 employees checking people out. This is a great all-around craft store. They have limited fabric/sewing so if you need something beyond the basics in that category you're better off going to a specialty fabric store, but for general scrapbooking, cake decorating, jewelry making, floral arranging, etc. this is your store. The main downside is that the lines here tend to get very long. I also tend to spend more time here than I anticipate because I get totally distracted with all of the neat things unrelated to the original reason for my visit. Most recently I needed some grommets and since those are sort of a specialty sewing thing I wasn't sure they would have them, but I tried anyway. Okay so in order to save some money, I purchased some of my wedding invitations here and had them printed at office depot (my printer doesn't print cardstock unfortunately so be wary of that if you are buying your wedding invitations here). Each box comes in 30 invitations with RSVP cards and cost about 45$. Watch for their 40% off coupon off regular items though - saved us a bunch! They sell such cute things here and very holiday/festive items. We also purchased a large 20X30 picture frame here for about 27$ after all the discount! Pretty decently priced! When I checked out, the clerk banged my ceramic items, didn't speak until I did and never made eye contact or said thank you. This review is for the Aaron Brothers framing store inside of Michaels. I met with a rep today to frame a mola that I got when visiting my family in Panamá. The rep was helpful with design advice and showed me a number of different frames as various price points. He was patient while I took photos and happy to switch out matting as many times as I asked. I haven't received the finished product yet (it takes around 2 weeks), but was really happy with the service I received today. read more
