Money wasted

Let's start with the obvious: it's Valentine's Day, and it's also a Saturday night. Easily one of the busiest restaurant nights of the year. Walking in, we had very reasonable expectations: it's going to be very crowded, loud, slower than normal.... all perfectly understandable and fine with us! We had reservations at 6:15, were seated immediately to find that there was a special (limited) menu for Valentine's Day, which we weren't told about when we booked. Okay, probably my husband's oversight since he didn't ask when booking the table. The special menu is 4 courses (2 appetizers, a main, and a dessert) with ~5 options to choose from each course. $110 per person. The waiter tells us that the wagyu option showing on the menu is already sold out, which seemed odd to me since it was only 6:15. We placed our orders and settled in for some relaxing conversation. The restaurant was packed wall-to-wall, with tables extremely close together, such that the hostess and patrons had a difficult time squeezing in between other diners to walk to their tables. Very uncomfortable but I guess expected for a busy night. What quickly became apparent, though, was that the restaurant was massively understaffed on one of the busiest nights of the year. I watched the waitstaff running nonstop, they were frazzled and working as hard as they could but they were massively outnumbered with no way to ever catch up. Our first two appetizer courses arrived after an embarrassingly long wait, and taste mediocre at best. The portions were understandably small as appetizers but we were already starving by the time they came out, making the bite-size portions pretty frustrating. After waiting 2 full hours we still did not have our main course. I overheard the couple seated next to us remarking that every table in the dining room was full of people but not a single table had any food sitting on it. I looked around and laughed- they were right. I excused myself to go to the ladies room, where i listened to two other female diners complaining that they had 8pm reservations, it was now 8:30 and they hadn't been seated yet. When our main course finally arrived we had been waiting for TWO AND A HALF HOURS to eat. My hangar steak was ordered well-done but came out charred (crispy) on the outside and still pink inside -- obviously the kitchen was rushing to catch up. Honestly I was so hungry by then I didn't even care. I ate every single crumb on my plate, though it tasted just mediocre, but i was starving. My husband had the ribeye and remarked his was very good. Our desserts arrived even later, which we similarly devoured out of hunger despite being pretty flavorless. From start to finish it took THREE HOURS to complete our meal. After the tip we spent $300+ on two meals and two glasses on wine, and unbelievably... I walked out of there still hungry! I am a petite female with a small appetite, but the portions were so tiny and spaced out over such a long evening that it never filled me up. As we waited in the parking lot for the valet to bring our car (they were awesome by the way!), we talked to another couple who had come out right behind us- they had only received their first course but were so appalled by the long wait they finally got up and walked out. They were heading to Waffle House! My husband and I came home and crushed a bag of Doritos so we didn't go to bed hungry after our $300 meal. Bottom line: this wasn't the fault of the servers or even the kitchen. This was a management and planning failure of epic proportions. Every diner was there by reservation, ordering from the same limited menu, and this level of delay was entirely preventable with proper staffing and preparation. Charging fine dining prices for a 3-hour meal that left us deeply disappointed and still hungry is simply shameful! We truly wish we had just given up and gone to Waffle House along with the others!

Fantastic new steakhouse in Milton. The starters are excellent and the steak cuts will go toe to toe with the best steak houses in the world. This will be a Milton staple for the years to come. Highly recommend!

We were in the neighbourhood, about 30 miles from home, for an afternoon banquet. The Man decided on this place because we had once checked it out after a breakfast nearby. He remembered it. From the moment we entered, service was excellent. We were seated quickly & without fuss though we had no reservation. It was a bit early so I don't know that it counts. Debra greeted us with warm courtesy and a welcoming smile. She treated us like guests in her home. My favourite? She didn't hover. The music was perfect for the environment... Sinatra and the best of the era. Modern, clean, (commercial) steakhouse decor. Whether it's a chain or not, they've got the formula down. We started with rich, generously seasoned devilled eggs topped with bacon. They were tasty but needed the bacon for the taste to work. They were great but we had to take some home to be able to eat our entrees. The Man ordered a bowl of chili. Again, it was ambitious but delicious. Our steaks were cooked to order. Pretty close to perfection, I have to say. (A medium NY Strip & a rare 6oz filet). Our sides were lumpy, rich, mashed potatoes (not whipped nor puréed), steamed (barely) broccoli, minimal but excellent white cheddar mac & cheese, and creamed corn. The corn was seasoned & creamy with whole kernels and baked. It was all delicious. If you're in the area, you can't go wrong. Caritas

And unlike a lot of places I have zero worry from Mitch's about the meats and fish being anything but top notch and super fresh. Plus - by ordering ahead Mitch always has what I want - butchered the way I want it. Lots of the businesses I support have "rules" I don't love (like breakfast starting at 8 am vs its real starting time of 6 am) :). But I just work around 'em. One of the great things about owning your own business is you get to figure out how to run it your own way. Mitch definitely has a way of running his -- but I'm a raving fan and I love being able to order ahead and just run in and pick it up. Swim with the current! Go Mitch - we appreciate y'all!

And the rules can be a hassle if you are not planning ahead. It's all entirely true. BUT... Good lord is the meat good. The man knows his trade. His sourcing is top notch, and once you make it inside the store, he is attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable about how to store, prepare, and cook every product he sells. I can only afford it every once in a while, but if I need an absolute slam-dunk for a special occasion, I always hit up Mitch. His manager lady (I'm sorry I don't recall your name!) is incredibly nice and helpful, making suggestions and giving tips. The business has its quirks, and if you don't like the rules or the prices, it's best you go somewhere else. But if you're in need of one of the best pieces of meat you've ever had, suck it up and go see Mitch. Call ahead and you're golden.

Was told it would be a 20 minute wait (we were there around 6:30pm) which was fine given that if we left and tried to go anywhere else, it would have taken that much time anyway. Several others came in after us and were told similar or longer times. Hostess mentioned to us that it was crowded inside because it was so hot on the patio. After all the others kept arriving, I happened to ask if the patio was closed and she said no, to which I said we were actually fine sitting out there. Then, all the other parties waiting said the same thing, so we all got seated immediately. Hubby had the special which was meatloaf. I had the burrata salad with added grilled chicken. Mine was the perfect size for a light but filling dinner. My husband said his was good too and even recommended it to a lady who asked about it from a nearby table. He even got a free cupcake for his birthday. Service has always been very friendly. Ambiance inside can get rather noisy, but the patio was better even with cars and a plethora of Amazon trucks going through the roundabout. Temp actually wasn't too bad. I visited on a chilly, but sunny Thursday in mid March just after 5PM and the parking lot and restaurant quickly filled up by the time I left. I was immediately greeted, seated, and my drink and food order taken. They don't have fountain drinks so my Diet Coke was served in a can. I ordered the sampler entree, which came with the pork chop, lamb chop, a filet medallion, and a salmon filet. All were quality and nicely cooked to order. The lemon caper butter and chimichurri added a tang that grew tiresome by the end of the meal, but wasn't unbearable. My side of fries were perfectly cooked. And I finished with a slice of buttermilk pie that was topped with tangy berry compote. The dining area includes booth, half booths, bar, screened and covered porch (closed against the chill and being enjoyed by patrons basking in the hints of spring sunshine), and also an outdoor area with picnic tables (with and without umbrellas) next to their herb garden, along with Adirondack chairs next to astroturf (where I imagine cornhole is played in the nicer months).

The mac and cheese was good, but if we had to choose between the sides we ordered, it's the one we could have skipped.
