This store sold me a speaker with no sound, refused to give me a receipt, and when I tried to return it they refused and told me to 'just enjoy the aesthetic.' How is that even legal? then to top it off I go to Best Buy and find the exact same speaker selling for the same price they charged me! Unique source of electronic parts. Nothing like it in Puget Sound. Sort of like an old fashioned electronic store. Very knowledgeable and helpful people. worst customer service I've ever seen, the employees are lazy, the owner lets his huge dog run around with no leash on bothering all the customers and doesn't even attempt to control the dog! when I told them I'm allergic to dogs and to please call him back so I could complete my shopping the owner actually snickered like a laugh under his breath and didn't call the dog back, it's truly a disgusting and vile environment. the store and the employees both contribute to that! only way I would ever go back there is with animal control! read more

A+ customer service! These guys were some of the only people on the Web that stocked a rare part I needed at a reasonable price (some places wanted $100 for a simple Y cable). Shipping was super fast! On the first shipment, they sent me the incorrect cable; however, seller was super apologetic and sent me the replacement incredibly quickly. The service at Vetco was at best arrogant. Prices are much higher than frys or even Adas books. I went there for the quick selection when doing projects. But I always dreaded the checkout... sometimes I'd get someone that'd give me the third degree on what my project was... no one at my day job of 18 years as an engineer ever talked down to me with such skepticism and even disrespect. The last straw was today when a female friend got the third degree on if she could solder, complete with some mysogenistic skepticism. I won't tolerate a business that treats women that way. The attitude of some of the staff is unpleasant. I found a device I needed online on the Vetco website. Immediately I made a call and asked if they care a particular device in the store. A guy told me that they do have it. Then I asked him if I could come and buy it. He said something like "One minute, let me check on it again". He put me on a hold for 2-3 min. Then he replied: "Yes, we have one on a shelf, but it is the last one". I asked about the price and it sounded good to me. I told him that I'm coming and gonna buy it. I was driving from Lynnwood. It was raining, dark and traffic was very bad. I arrived in 1.5 hours after I talked to that guy from the store. So, I drove 50 miles (round trip) to just hear that they don't have the device I needed and never had it, and the guy who talked to me on the phone already left for the day. I'm very unsatisfied... I'm into electronics and have built numerous headphone amplifiers and this is the perfect place to find those missing resistors and capacitors to do these type of projects. It's one of those places where if your into DIY electronics you better know about this place or your really missing out. I wish I could give them six stars. I went in looking for a connector cable from my docking station to my monitor because the one Best Buy said I needed was not in stock. The super helpful guys at Vetco not only had the right part, but they explained that the part Best Buy recommended actually wasn't the best and they offered a better alternative at a cheaper price. They were so nice and didn't talk down to me at all even though I don't have a clue what I'm talking about with computers. Plus they love cats and they have a shop dog. :) read more

Went in to buy some parts for a project but was instantly told the store was closed even though it was 10 till four. When I asked about a part their response was simply "no we don't have it." The cashier didn't seem interested in helping us. And again stated they were closed. After I told them that it was not four yet he pointed us to an isle and gave us a time limit of three minutes. Even though there was clearly 10 minutes left until four. He then came looking for us after no help to tell us it was closed again. Wow by far the worst possible service you can get. We walked in at 3:54 and they wouldn't let us past the entrance saying they were closing in 4 minutes. I said we would be quick and they let us in. I'm a HUGE fan of this place based on product selection. Pricing is decent. Gets better on small items if you buy in bulk. If it's Audio/Electric related they're darn sure to have it. That said, one grumpy old man can hamper your experience at even the most awesome of shops and that is what happened to me today. I came in with an EXTRAORDINARILY explicit request. I got a sideways glance and the sage advice "you really ought to look on the website before you come in, you just described about 8,000 things here." Here's what I said: "I need a quick connector molex plug for power/audio." Anyhow, that's what they're called on the parts bin (more or less) so I wandered over to where I thought they might be, browsed a few moments, and brought up my accurately named 4-pin and 2-pin quick connectors to the front counter, ready to hunt down more parts. I didn't dare ask where I could find butt connectors and get another earful about not having the part number for a commonly named item, so I asked someone else who - although decidedly of the internet generation - did not blow smoke at me and instead listened to my question and directed me to them. I left over all satisfied but couldn't quite get out the door without the original old man shouldering past me grumbling about (and I swear I'm not being hyperbolic here) "those darn kids. The microscope bulb is missing, they must've messed around with it." Alright, maybe I made up the 'darn kids' part, but the rest happened just as described. But, they've got the right parts, decent prices, and frankly where else are you going to go... so, I recommend them. Pretty sure the old guy is one of the owners, BTW, he's been in there the last few times I've stopped by. He can be a grump, but he's not losing my business anytime soon. I love this electronics store. It's a mom and pops type store with everything you could think of for any kind of electronic parts and they have very competitive prices. The store is clean and organized and I always find what I need or realize that I have to go online to get something special. I've been going here for 8 years ever since I got into the IT business. For a few years now they have been at this new closer location right next to the 520 freeway entrance on Northup Way. The previous location was a 3 story store down on Elliott Ave. in Seattle. I remember when they said they were closing and I was dissapointed, but now they are closer to my work which is great. Since Fry's has infiltrated Washington, I take a gander at them since they are on the way to Vetco. But I must say this is the first place I think of and drive here all the way from Kent. It's definitely worth a look of you need electronics parts or tools. And when I can, I would rather support these guys than the big chains. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Finally I found an old-school electronics shop! Great prices on components and they have a crap-load (its a metric unit- look it up) of things I need as an Electronics Engineer. Today we scored a micro switch for $2.50 and saved several thousands of dollars by repairing this component instead of replacing it. They have some useful test equipment too; reasonably priced o-scopes and frequency counters and a couple used spectrum analyzers. This place blows Frys, Alphatronics and Radio Shack out of the water. Its very clean, organized and well staffed. read more

How in the world do you both split a VGA signal and then convert it to HDMI? For these guys it was no sweat. Within ten minutes of walking through the door I not only had exactly what I needed to make everything work I was totally educated on what was actually happening between devices. All in all a super friendly and extremely knowledgable staff. My sense is if you needed something, no matter how obscure, these guys would either have it in stock or could easily track it down. Save yourself the hassle of having a big-box store special order something or fishing on Amazon and go here. read more

Incredible. For electronics DIYers, this store has all the tiny little parts you couldn't find anywhere locally. I looked at maybe 5 other "electric" stores in the area, and none had the specialization or variety as Vetco. It's like a Radioshack that's 8 times bigger and better. Every imaginable kind of connector, component, tool, and supply for the electronic hobbyist. About 1000 times larger selection than you'll find at Radio Shack and 350 times larger than the elec components section at Fry's. Make sure to comparison shop a bit-- whilst they seem cheap on most things (especially small components) you may spend a bit more on odd items. Perfboards at Radio Shack start at about a buck and go to 3 or 4 dollars for a big one. Here the ones I saw started at about 5 bucks. [ Update: and they even stock Arduino micro controllers! ] You have to love the old building and the mom-and-pop flavor of the place. Make sure you save some time to just putz around and look at stuff.They also have a useful online catalog. SOO happy that we have this here in the Seattle area. read more

High five, a nod and 5 stars! Vetco is awesome!!! I came here after the guys at Radio Shack told me about it. The drive over was supposed to be straight forward but I got a little lost. I turned right at 130th instead of going forward a little more. So if you're driving there, make sure to pass 130th, pass a green business sign, then turn right at the super steep driveway. I was looking for a 2 pin JST-PH connector and I found a pack of 5 at $1.30 w/tax. Neal, the dude that helped me, even let me use the crimping tool to attach my wires so I didn't have to buy the $20 tool! He also helped me with the battery component of my project! I learned a lot and received great customer service! read more

One sentence review: Awesome shop run by awesome people who KNOW electronics. On a Saturday evening, I got it in my head to dive into an electronics project I had been putting off for a while. My plan came to a screeching halt when I realized I didn't have a power supply to test what I was building. When I woke up the next morning and started googling to see if there were any stores around that not only had what I needed at a decent price and was also open on a Sunday, there was just one. Vetco. I headed over the next afternoon to pick up the power supply. When I got there, the one wanted was out of stock but one of the guys said he would give me a deal on another one if I didn't want to wait for stock to come in. They even threw in some free test leads. On top of that, they had two adorable dogs in the shop laying on one of the counters. FREE PETS! Great selection, great people, great hours, great prices and great dogs! Why would you shop anywhere else? I know I won't. read more

Apparently Vetco electronics' largest customer is Microsoft as described by the owner, and I can definitely see why. They have so many specific electronic components you won't ever manage to find anywhere else except online. However, their selection is limited for each component as they seldom have more than one or two options for whatever it is you are looking for. And yes I'll have to agree with the other reviews, the guy who runs the shop is a bit of a snob. Either way, I have found myself visiting this shop most recently for my 2.1 audio system, my movie projector, my music sensored LED strips, and numerous other projects since they have great prices. read more

One star taken off for high prices on network equipment and lacking selection in a few areas, but you can check their website to see if they have what you need. The manager here is unbelievably rude and a tech snob who does not listen to or help customers. Especially women. I knew exactly what I needed and explained very clearly. I was shown wrong parts. When I questioned the manager and said it did not like look like the right part he ripped open the part package, threw down the part and said " let's make this simple for you!" I only stayed because I knew the the real part I needed was there. I found it and hooked my system no problem. The rude manger hid in the back room. Do not go here unless you have to. I arrived at Vetco Electronics today at 3:46; they close at 4:00. I was prompted reminded that they close at 4:00 upon entering the store. I already knew that. I only needed a couple of items. When I asked about heat shrink tubing, I was told "you are too late, it's upstairs". This was at 3:50. I give 1 star because I took a 25 minute trip to the store after looking up their hours and confirming the were open until 4:00. In reality, it's more like 3:45. So, they should probably update their website or, honor their posted hours. I won't be back, I'd rather wait several days for cheap Chinese parts. No wonder US stores are going out of business. I absolutely love this place. On multiple occasions, this has been the place I go to after I've visited about 10 different stores that are closer to my house. In the back of my head I'm always doing weighted average calculations with my gas consumption and the chance that the next store will have what I NEED! I usually end up being convinced that if I had just driven straight to Vetco, everything would work out far better. But sometimes I forget and stop at an RST (RST=some random store) here... or an XYZ (XYZ=some random store) store there... 78.5% of the time these other stores don't have what I'm looking for. 100% of the time, the people working AT the stores have NO IDEA what I'm even talking about. They nod their heads sometimes acting like they have a clue, but it's obvious when they don't... On the other hand, Vetco = Great pricing Vetco = People who completely understand what you're talking about Vetco = Great service Vetco = Home of the Arduino monthy 'maker' get together...Get your hands dirty!!! Vetco = TONS of other stuff - but I've got to get back to work. If you can figure out who I am by this post, please feel free to get a hold of me to talk more about Vetco. Vetco = Always there. What I mean by this is - I've been going there for a LONG time it seems like.
