After weeks of having issues with our Sony TV, we called Magnolia audio video to get assistance, we weren't able to get satisfactory telephone assistance. Save your time and go elsewhere. I was in the store for something else, but need a piece of audo equipment so decided to stop in to the Magnolia Audio area. No one there. I went out into the Best Buy area and asked one of the people with a name tag if there was anyone working in that area and he said he could help me. He asked me what I wanted, I told him and he started to look it up on his phone. I told him that I could look things up myself, but I wanted to talk with someone knowledgeable about the equipment. Worst place to buy anything. Unfriendly and unhelpful staff. I bought some cable based on best buy reps suggestions, and when geek squad came for installation they had their own cable. The guy at magnolia asked me to buy a cable which was $5 a feet, and the rep at best buy suggested I would need 50 feet. Considering they are more knowledgeable, I went ahead and spent $275 including taxes for the 50 feet cable. Geek squad didn't need the cable as they had their own. I came back next day of the installation which is still within 15 days of their so called return policy, they plainly refused to keep their promise of 15 day returns. I will never recommend anyone buying anything from either magnolia or best buy anymore. As magnolia is part of best buy at the end of the day. Though I truly appreciate the geek squads effort, they are probably of different genes than rest of the group. read more

The absolute worst service experience visiting the Magnolia Audio/Video section at Best Buy brought to you by Kevin and Dwayne. I was intrigued by one of the rooms they had set up in the back that shows the different lighting settings, with a fireplace and couch. Really peaceful! I went to close the door to see what the ambiance setting looked like with no light from the door, and the sales manager comes to the door and literally pushes the door open on my hand very aggressively. Than steps right into the room very aggressively and says nothing. I was startled and I laughed with nervousness. He didn't even bother to explain why he did that. My boyfriend informed me I cannot close the door because of the expensive equipment. Honestly the thought didn't cross my mind. I shrugged it off and moved to the next rooms. The final room was an office. I walked in and the other salesman comes behind me and says, "You cannot be in here! Don't you see there are no equipment in here. You need to leave." Apparently it was a real office. I had no idea! Put up a sign. I asked him if they were always this mean to people. He took a big deep breath in and very rudely said, "Leave. Now." And pointed in the direction of the exit!! Very disrespectful. I asked what the store manager's name was and he refused to tell me. I asked if they worked for Best Buy and he said no they didn't. He than told me I can walk up to security and take it up with them. I was literally shaking with the treatment and had tears in my eyes when I walked away. That is not how you treat people. One thing can be said in a million ways, and they could have simply educated me on the importance of this equipment and why they were so high alert and uptight with me roaming around. I would have completely understood. But to give this type of treatment to any customer is simply unacceptable. I wonder if it was because I was wearing sweats, sneakers and a beanie, or if it's because I am a Middle Eastern woman. If I walked in with a low cut top and heels, I may have been approached differently. What a complete turn off to the Magnolia company and Bellevue Best Buy overall. I was obviously discriminated against and profiled. We had walked through with the intent to purchase new lighting and speakers for a home we are looking to buy in the near future. I am a Finance Manager nearby, and could never imagine speaking to any customer like this. Relax buddies. Your just selling entertainment systems. It's not rocket science. You know how Best Buy has the Geek Squad? Well, they also have a Goon Squad and it resides at this location. My wife and I came in a few months ago looking for a plasma TV. The place was messy - it looked more like a frat house than a retail store, let alone one which sells high-end audio and video equipment. Half the TV's didn't have prices marked and there was no rhyme or reason to way products were displayed. The salesperson who tried to "help" us talked at us like a bad used car dealer. Insincere banter, no product knowledge, then doubled down on pushy behavior when it became clear we needed more product knowledge than he had to offer. Then one of the more "experienced" reps came over and tried similar pushy tactics. We left because we weren't getting anywhere and didn't trust what little we were told. In short, poorly organized and very unfriendly. Video Only is across the street and does a far better job engaging with customers. They also know their products like they should. As a follow-up, we went to Best Buy in Bellevue and related our sorry tale of Magnolia A-V. They quickly assured us we weren't the first to tell them about Magnolia in Bellevue. read more

I haven't purchased anything here (yet). However I've been here multiple times and the sales people are helpful and not pushy. My judgment so far based on what other people I know have experienced with purchasing and the other yelp reviews is that this place is not ideal for buying audio systems. Being commission based they try to artificially rack up the cost with extras that you don't need. Seattle has multiple audio specialty places that are much better and more genuine than this one. Moving on though, I believe it's great for TV shopping. I've been coming here to look at stuff for about a year and a half now, and consistently this is what has been told to me regarding their TV sales policy: 1. They will price match for 90 days, including price matching sales if you ask on the day of the sale. 2. You have 30 days to return the TV opened if you don't like it or it doesn't suit your living room. They honored this 100% for a friend of mine who found out that the TV had a lot of glare in her home. 3. They went above and beyond for me when picking up my TV and put something that was the last thing in stock on hold for me during a sale so I could pick it up later that day and pay then. First off to qualify my opinion, I am a regional manager for a local retailer in the puget sound. I honestly don't stumble across great service that often, and when I do it is refreshing. I used to frequent the Magnolia Hi-FI in Spokane, WA (now long gone) and I always received excellent service.I was under the impression Magnolia as a company were no longer around, so I was happy to come across their Bellevue store. The previous poster mentioned "if you are lucky to get a good sales rep".... I was lucky enough to be helped by a consultant named John Webb. I had older speakers I had purchased from Magnolia years prior, and he took his time and advice even though I wasn't looking to purchase anything further other than installations (speakers they don't even carry any longer). Had them install a complete home theatre in my Bellevue home. "Devin" the salesman said the largest projector screen I could go was 82 inches. I questioned him several times as my theater in Texas was the same size and my projector screen was much much larger. After installation I did some online research and found that they could've installed a screen up to 127 inches instead. When I questioned the salesman he gave me lots of excuses but he said the bottom line was that I "signed the delivery form" and that I'm stuck with the screen. However, he was more than happy to sell me another screen for another 3000+ dollars. When I attempted to resolve this through their management their management clearly agreed with me that a larger screen could've been installed but they would not take back the screen either. When you hire a company to give you professional advice, you expect them to do the research. Now I have to file a lawsuit against them in order to make it right. For the few dollars you might save going with this "big box" installation company, you're better off going with a local company who respects you as a customer. read more

I purchased my home entertainment from Magnolia Hi-Fi a pioneer Elite receiver and set of in ceiling speakers with sub woofer all Martin Logan. I ask a conceal wiring and to connect my TV, BP and pc.......the pair of installers they sent where fantastic, very knowledgeable and courteous. I couldn't have asked for better. My family has been a loyal Magnolia Hifi customer for over 20 years. Anytime we needed something, we came and shopped at their Bellevue location. Now that I'm an adult, I also began to shop here for my AV needs. Through the years their quality of service has been getting worse. The last purchase, I "only" spent $4,000 and almost didn't finish my purchase due to the condescending tone of the salesman. Due to our long history, I brushed it off and completed the transaction. I went in yesterday to make another purchase and unfortunately the service was the worst I've ever experienced at any retail establishment. The salesman was rude and borderline verbally abusive (unfortunately, I'm not exaggerating). I have noticed that there is a correlation between how much you're looking to spend and the quality of service you'll receive. I would venture to guess that if you're looking to spend over $10,000, you MIGHT receive good service. Anything less and you'll be looked down upon. The nostalgia of shopping at Mag is completely gone and I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I called them on a Saturday and spoke with Christine, who was able to provide me with some good information about a product I wanted to look at. I was told yes, there was one on the floor for demo. Upon arriving, I located the product myself, but it was not connected, so I went to seek out a salesman. As the product works on wireless, the salesman tells me he can't hook it up. "We have all these wireless products, and our network is overloaded." To note, there were no other customers in their tiny part of the store, so this was just laziness. I imagine they get a higher markup on the other wireless products they sell, so why bother, right? He was smirky and didn't seem to care about helping likely the only customer who walked in that afternoon. Too bad. I used to shop at Magnolia quite a bit, and also imagine that the *real* Magnolia Hi Fi in the Roosevelt district is pretty unhappy to have these guys share the same company name. This space in Best Buy could get filled in with washers and dryers and I'd be ok with that. Edit: One week later, I am removing one star. I decided recently it was time to upgrade the bose system to something better. Not knowing what I wanted I visited Magnolia after going to the gym. When I entered the salesmen looked at me and went back to their conversation. After about 20 minutes with no help I left. The next day I wondered if it was due to my gym attire so I went in after work in my nice suit and instantly had one of the same salesmen who had ignored me offer assistance. I'm generously giving this store two stars instead of one, just to give them the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps I had the only lying, irritating, and condescending sales person in the organization. These days people hav the Internet in their pocket, so stop lying just to try and sell what you're interested in selling. When the customer is better informed than the sales person their job becomes simply facilitating the transaction or using their knowledge to inform the customer of what they think is a preferable option ("Well sir, yes, the Prius gets good gas mileage, but hav you taken a look at the Porsche, I think you'll enjoy it much more"). Lying to the customer just doesn't work in this era of highly available information ("the Prius is only made in lime green, you need a Porsche"). It seems like the policy on insulting the customer would be covered in Sales 101 ("You've clearly never driven a real car before if you're shopping for a Prius"). Frankly, I expect a bit of condescending attitude at a high-end stereo store but the experience at Magnolia was above and beyond. read more

I put in an order for several face plates for our speaker system in our kitchen to update/replace our current wall based controls. We placed an order...and the wrong units game in...we then asked for another model that would match our outlets...and somehow it has disappeared into the ether. We get no calls back from the sales person...even after leaving multiple messages. We have been calling and showing up at the store to attempt to get these wall plates. The customer service has been so very poor. We've gotten handed from sales person to sales person...and finally to store manager who also has not followed up. No one has taken ownership to solve this very simple problem....it's been 6months+!!! UGH!!! We moved to a new home and needed our relatively new home theater system to be moved and reinstalled in a room of similar size and configuration. The result has been unsatisfactory. The reinstallation was expensive, the work was not done properly, and the company has not been accessible in our attempts to get follow up service to fix the problems. read more

Installation of $10,000 home theater system left if not much, then quite a bit to be desired. Much of system not working properly when they finished installation but as Magnolia told me "these systems are so complicated now that you cannot expect everything to work first time around". I can actually accept that but had they sat down and actually checked out most of the main features I believe they would have found out as quickly as we did that somethings were not up to snuff. Unfortunately the first television starting rapidly powering on and off after about 5 weeks of ownership. The only way to stop this was by pulling plug. Not totally surprising as when you google this problem with this model, you find many many references to it on internet. Magnolia wanted to bring it in for repair. I said no way, not after 5 weeks, for over 3 grand they can replace it. Besides the super bowl was in a few days. They agreed to this and then replaced it with a $100 dollar delivery fee. After much protestation they refunded this fee. The replacement TV had a big white cloud or blotch in middle of screen that could only be seen in darker scenes with room darkened. I sent the salesman a photo taken with an iPhone 4 (I've uploaded that photo as part of this review), not exactly a sensitive powerhouse camera - and he saw the cloud and immediately said they would send another TV. Nobody, picky or not ,would have ever accepted this in a $3500 TV. They did send a new one but unfortunately my wife had to put up with a stream of snide comments that ended with "this new TV will probably look exactly the same". She felt that the delivery men were instructed to do this to in effect bully her to perhaps either not make the exchange (they first insisted on seeing it for themselves which was very hard in broad daylight) or make sure we dont complain if this TV is also a lemon. Nice way for two men to treat my wife while she is home alone. Just completed a different $55,000 project from start to finish with no issues at all - but that I think is the difference between large company (baby Best Buy in Magnolia's case) and a private contractor. Like one of the other reviewers above, I shall never do business with them again and neither will any of the other friends and colleagues who were made aware of all of this. As the saying goes, a happy client tells about 10 people, an unhappy one about 25. Finally, I had a salesman named Dwaine who after all of this still seems like a decent guy and if he worked for another company I would do business with him again. read more

I have dealt with Magnolia AV quite a bit in the last few months, with the sales guy John Webb. If I were just rating John, this would be 5 stars. He is truly an outstanding sales guy. Very patient, willing to do what he can to help you out, doesn't disappear after the sale, full of information, and very low pressure. The reason I give them 4 stars is because of their high end equipment selection. They have some good stuff, but for example in the high end speaker lines they only carry B&W, Sonus Faber, and Martin Logan. Granted, these are some great brands (I ended up with some lovely B&Ws), but it's still a limited selection compared to what's just across the street at Definitive. The other thing that I should mention is that it's a little bit difficult to get a demo unit. It's understandable that they don't want floor units out for too long, etc, but still... when you're considering plunking down the kind of change that I was, I'd just expect more in this area. Maybe they need extra units that they can demo? I can't speak for the other sales guys, I don't know if I'd want to interact with them as much. They definitely seemed somewhat... slimy... for lack of a better word. Admittedly though, that's from a very superficial viewpoint as I only really interacted extensively with John. read more

Been waiting forever to set up a home theater. Finally, when time was right (a few months back), I decided to consult a few folks for a quote. Out of all, Magnolia was probably the best, most likely because they have a good set up at their showroom. And I firmly believe, if you are spending so much for home theater set up, its better to experience the selection in person before buying, that includes speakers, receiver, projector and screen (if you are buying these). Justin (the sales manager) visited our home, suggested a great customized set up. He did not push us by any means and in fact suggested a solution that was more reasonable than what other home theater specialists offered. He also price matched things where I found lower price elsewhere. The installation team is also great and are very clean and neat in their work. A few pros and cons. PROS -------- -- Great showroom, they carry quite a few brands -- Great people to work with, no pushing at all (especially Justin, very professional and friendly at the same time) -- Quick response -- Competitive and customer oriented -- Installation team is awesome, very detail oriented, clean and professional -- 30 day return policy in case you don't like something (I think everything comes from best buy). -- You also get points for your purchase (best buy points) and get cash back for the same. Most likely you will end up being an elite customer of best buy, which will give you expedited free shipping for any purchase (like amazon prime, but only limited to best buy). Saves a bit of money and ease of shopping. CONS (minor ones) ------------------------ -- A bit on the expensive side, don't forget to negotiate -- High labor costs, but not so much compared to some other competitors. I called Definitive Audio, Madrona Digital and a couple of other folks before deciding on Magnolia A/V -- Took longer than what I anticipated to complete the project at home. Overall, about 3 months (2 months after we finalized everything). They shipped wrong screen, but informed me that they will replace it (new screen yet to arrive, but I can use the wrong one they shipped) TIP/S --------- -- You don't need to buy furniture with them, its costlier than what's available in the market All in all, I am very happy with their work and would recommend Magnolia A/V to a friend. I just had a wonderful experience with these guys. Perhaps they have new employees? I had a TV go awry, and even though it was under warranty, LG refused to cover it (of course). So these guys took it back, no questions asked, and got me a new TV. They were very informative, told me what I needed, and I left feeling great. They have hired a couple of really bad sales folks and I had the (mis)fortune of being helped by one of them. Their sales service is on a sliding scale and they're only interested in knowing how much you want to spend and if you were going to spend it right away. The sales guy I got stopped giving me even basic pricing information once he knew I wasn't going to buy anything that very moment. And this was literally 10 mins after I had walked into the store. What was supposed to be a simple two-day job (paid in full before day 1) still has pending items 11 months later! Worse: in spite of the many emails I sent them over the last months, I haven't heard of them since... last November! First, I would like to say I had been a loyal Magnolia customer for over 8 years. However, my last experience with them was so awful that I will never do business with them again. I purchased about $8,100 in merchandise (including installation). Most of the install was very basic. 5 room Sonos set up with 3 of the rooms hard wired with sub-woofers. Hardest part of the install was a TV/DVD install on an angled ceiling. So what went wrong? 1. Installers had to come to my place three times before the install even began to scope out the project. My guess is they lost their notes along the way. 2. It took nearly two months after I purchased all the equipment to get an installer out to my place. 3. They were unable to complete the install in the first visit. (Despite one guy there all day and another there half the day). Apparently the installers were not given the proper items/specs from the home office. 4. After the first visit, it took another two months to schedule completion of the install. 5. After the second install, I was not happy with how they mounted the TV. They were specially told that the mount from the ceiling was not supposed to be visible. I called the head installer, the manager of the Bellevue office, along with my new sales guy (my old sales guy had quit). After numerous phone calls and e-mails, I simply gave up. They literally would not call me back or e-mail me. Customer Service was awful! Given Magnolia is anything but cheap, as a customer you go there for their product selection and most importantly, their customer service. Their customer service has horrible. On a positive note, the actual installers seemed nice and hardworking. Overall, I blame managers at Magnolia. You would think that after you spend over $8,000 bucks they would give you a follow up call and make sure everything was all good and you are a satisfied customer. But apparently not. My guess is that since my original sales guy had quit along the way, no one had incentive to make sure I was a satisfied customer as no one else was earning a commission at that point. read more

My wife and I, along with our daughter, visited this store over the weekend. We went to look for a tv, in ceiling speakers, Receivers, etc. The store had one other customer and three or four employees. We browsed for twenty minutes and not one sales person greeted us. One walked by with his head down. We were shocked. There were two people just standing at the center console. They seemed very arrogant and rude. They were having an anniversary sale too. We left and went to video only. As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted and helped, and the store was busy. They said they get a lot of business from people like us that experience the same there. We spent over $6k for phase one of our project. I guess the sales people are soooo rich they dont need to sell anything. I spoke to an employee at best buy who helped me with some other things. I mentioned it to him when he tried referring me over there. He said I'm not the first person that's told him that. FYI, he said they can place purchases from magnolia there at best buy. Bottom line, we would have appreciated good service, or any from a higher end store like that. For higher end stuff, we'd choose definitive audio, across the street. read more

I was pretty excited to buy my new surround sound home theater speaker system (Def Tech) but found that this brand is only sold thru its dealers. Magnolia offered the same price as the other (Def Tech) dealer; however they appeared to be a very professional outfit and more knowledge about the set up. I worked with Shayne who insured me that he would spend an hour doing consulting during the set up. This of course was the reason I go with premium dealers. After a week of being blown off, I decided to call the manager. He told me he is commission based and is not being paid to do anything above selling me the speakers. This is frustrating! My expectation had nothing to do with commissions or how he is paid...I just took his word that he would help me out when I am ready to set everything up. I have been in sales my whole life and cannot stand this. If you don't have any integrity in your word, what do you have? What goes around comes around and I will make sure I tell anyone who is thinking of buying audio to go somewhere else. BTW...Best Buy owns them, and I would expect better customer services from them. Oh, one last thing...I needed some HDMI cables and Magnolia Audio grabbed 3 boxes of them. The bill was $480! What, Denon receiver was about that...ask yourself it that makes any sense? I went next door bought HDMI cables with all the same specs for $120. Stay away from this place, unless you like to pay more for some fancy boxes and empty promises. read more

I have purchased high-end audio video products from this store over the years. It carries leading edge home electronics products at a price. Last year I purchased a 65" 3d Panasonic television, along with extra 3d glasses. The television has performed very well, but the glasses have been problematic. Recently, two of the glasses broke in the same way, and the third broke when I tried to replace the battery. None of the glasses broke due to rough handling. Obviously, given that I have had the glasses less than a year and they cost $150 for each pair, I'm not happy with their reliability. I took them into the store yesterday seeking either free, or significantly discounted, replacements. At best, the would only discount the replacements...but the discounted cost was higher than the price at Amazon. So, my conclusion is that if you want leading edge products at a high price knowing you will be on your own if you have any problems, this might be the place for you. Worse experience I have ever experienced (Magnolia Hi Fi in Bellevue WA. Returned a $700 Project X turntable for repairs (purchased 3 years prior). The needle kept skating over the record. I was charged $43.80 for labor and parts. (Later, they said it was for diagnosis). Was told it would be repaired in two weeks. It wasn't. The store gave me a number to call the repair man. Turned out he wasn't available, but I talked with the manager, in Kent, WA. She said they weren't informed it needed repair. I told her go ahead and repair it. I was going to be charged an additional $165 for the diagnosis. Went back to Magnolia Hi Fi in Bellevue, WA and they talked with the manager (Harriett) at the repair center. I was told Best Buy/Magnolia Hi Fi had a 30 days guarantee, and in 30 days the turntable would be repaired. I returned after 30 days, and the turntable was not repaired. Magnolia Hi Fi then talked with Harriett and I overheard the sales person one option to give me was to give me another identical turntable. The other option was to repair the turntable and charged me less for the repairs or return the damaged turntable and refund me my $43.80. I told him I'd think about the latter option since he never mentioned giving me a new turntable. He said Harriett would get back to him and he'd call me. 24 hours later, no call. Went back to Magnolia Hi Fi in Bellevue, and called Harriett from the store. I was told by an assistant they needed between 4-6 weeks to repair my turntable. They had not worked on it yet! And their delivery vans may take more than a week to return it to the store. I then told the sales person just give me back my turntable and $43.80. Now, it will take a week or more to get it back. Don't ever buy anything from Best Buy/Magnolia Hi Fi. I'm told they won't be around in 2 years, due to their customer service, etc. read more
