One of the best hot chocolates I've had in the United States. They do it legit where I went three days in a row while visiting Chicago. Milk and ganache...amazing. I love this place. Reminds me a bit of a french bakery. I was helped in my bagel selection by the baker herself Kat. She asked me what I typically like and if I was open to something different. I do like to mix it up with new bagel flavors from time to time. She suggested the French onion and it tasted just like french onion soup. Chef and Owner, Arshiya Farheen studied French pastry making in Paris and brought back her skills to Chicago! This morning on the way to work I stopped in because a pastry sounded like a good way to start the day. Particularly a kouign amann, my favorite pastry! I picked out one that had saffron cream, and I thought it was just a dollop of cream on top but it was actually filled. I've never had a filled one and it was a delightful surprise! The cream yummy and it was really filled in there so it was indeed a nice breakfast. I also picked up a Turkey and Gruyère croissant for lunch and that was delicious too. They make great pastries and have good food in general, and next time I'll have to pick up a chai latte as well. read more

Run don't walk to this charming bakery. There are three things that really stood out to me here besides the chic interiors: 1. The flavors are really unique: French pastries really benefit from an Indian spice profile. I had the Desi Velour which was so warm and soft and the halwa inside was an awesome surprise. I got a chai when I heard them say they actually prepare their own blend fresh from whole spices (score!) The raspberry rose filling in my croissant was also a nice break from the expected almond paste, which brings me to my second point: 2. The croissants are really good! I'm a croissant snob and am always skeptical but these were really flaky and just a touch soft on the inside, even though it was already midday when I got there. You can tell the owner trained in Paris because these are technically well done. 3. The service was friendly and great! I actually dropped my Desi Velour on the floor b/c I am a klutz and they replaced it for me no-questions-asked. I will be back for sure! read more

I had the Chicken Salad & Croissant Sandwich with a Macha Latte (w/ Oat Milk & Lavender Syrup,) and my friend had the Spinach & Kale Quiche. We also shared a Raspberry Tart. My Chicken Salad Croissant Sandwich was very delicious and fresh. The Matcha was okay. I don't feel it was whisked enough but it wasn't bad. I hardly tasted the lavender in it, though. I stopped into Verzenay on a Sunday afternoon and was surprised that there were so many people hanging out there having coffee and socializing. I had the iced herbal tea, which was tasty! One of my favorite bakeries! The staff is always friendly. This place has such great pastries. My favorite is their raspberry rose croissant. I have never tasted anything soo good. I can't describe it but it taste refreshing with a hint of the fruit coming through. They do their croissants right where it's flaky, crispy and still yummy and buttery. The apple pastry was made with similar dough as those epic croissants and the first bite brought a tiny tear to my eye (insert: chef's kiss) and mind you it was two days old at this point. I don't come here regularly, so have held off on a review, Now I would say I have been 5-6 times in the past year. While the bakery items are delicious, the one star is for the service and staff. Every time I have visited, without fail, there are 3-5 people behind the counter. Even if I am the only person in the line, I have never been acknowledged even after getting to the register and waiting for 1-2 minutes. I understand things can get hectic, but even if they are discussing work, at least look at the customer and acknowledge them. It is customer service 101. It js such a turn off, and the reason I swear off it every time I decide to give it another chance. read more
