We were especially interested in visiting this place as some sort of reprieve from the typical, heavy French fare-and not to mention the English speaking opportunity,as it is run by Americans.
We made our reservations by email, and were promptly responded to-not only did we have several email exchanges regarding a confirmation of our reservation, but they seemed thoughtful to confirm our dietary preferences.(allergies, vegetarian, etc.). I mentioned that I only eat vegetarian & seafood & no type of egg...
When we arrived,we were seated rather promptly, and were asked again about our dietary preferences. i thought for such a small place, it would have been noted with our reservation and some advance planning would have been made.
It's a pre-fixe menu, which we were unaware of-that's fine, we just didn't know.
The first course arrived,it was good. I don't eat caviar(egg), so mine was served sans the egg.
The second was a gazpacho, which was excellent and very creative.
The third course, which came no sooner than 30 MINUTES LATER, was a fish. It was good, but our neighbors who arrived at their table 45 minutes after us were already on this course...
The fourth, which came no sooner than 35 MINUTES LATER (I was getting antsy, but figured something special was being prepared for my diet request;again, the people who showed up 45 minutes after us were already on this course-kind of annoying, yet again.)It was duck with ravioli. I just got the ravioli. Very disappointing, as not only it took painfully long (& our neighbors were served far in advance of us) but, frankly, it was terrible and dry, made no sense to serve on its own,as it seemed meant to be served with duck. I thought I might get a piece of fish, lobster, shrimp or something of equal value, but no. As small as the portion was, I could not really eat it,so I just picked at it.
On to the next. A beef course. I got 3 tiny sicks of tofu in soy sauce instead. Very boring, and again, 30 cents worth of tofu, compared to the beef, was disappointing. It just felt like an afterthought. There are so many things one could prepare with vegetables or seafood for that matter, and to be served such a lame thing, was a bummer, to say the least.
We ordered the cheese plate as our next course, but seeing how late it was, we cancelled it. We could not sit for four hours to eat. Period.
To top it off, these ridiculous people sitting right next to us(Americans, unfortunately) were taking pictures with a giant camera with a FLASH, for every single course-including the espresso!! They spoke loudly ad nauseum about every detail of their food on top of it all.We prayed they didn't order an after dinner drink!! This kind of crap should not be allowed in any restaurant-especially, what is supposed to be a fine dining establishment. I was surprised they weren't on their phones talking, tweeting and facebooking.
Dessert arrived, it was okay. A bit of an odd pairing- a peanut butter chocolate mousse, and a bowl of berries with frozen yogurt... We were simply relieved at that point to be done with it all.
Furthermore, it was expensive (200 euro~so pushing 300usd) and no type of adjustment was made for the food I had, which was with out the caviar and meat.
Overall, kind of disappointed. Maybe the meat eaters would contest this, but still, for the price? Not so much read more
