This place is on the pricey side as it's 78€ for 6 courses, but the portions are on the larger side, the food is inventive and unique without being too crazy, and the quality was excellent - lots of fresh, seasonal vegetables. I found the textures and combinations of flavors in the dishes really delicious and different. While this was one of the pricier dinners we have had on 4 different trips to Paris, it was certainly one of the best and more memorable meals that we had.
This reminded me of food/restaurants in San Francisco, with a more familial/sharing plates vibe and plates that focused more on vegetables and fresh ingredients than with plating. I found that it was more vegetable heavy than most other French restaurants, which I found refreshing and also appreciated it was a bit healthier.
I loved the amuse bouches that came out - all 5 came out at the same time, and the portion size was actually pretty decent.
Amuse Bouche:
- Purple potato, herbs de provence - These were basically like potato chips freshly made with purple potatoes with a creamy garlic & herb spread.
- Chickpea socca & wild herbs - This was my favorite of the amuse bouches, it was like a mini chickpea flour taco stuffed with fresh herbs. I don't normally eat this many fresh herbs in one bite, but this was delicious.
- Beetroot and wild blueberry - These were little tarts on a piece of crispy potato with a beet mousse/cream and topped with a blueberry. They were small but a nice little bite.
- Green asparagus, brown butter cream and almonds - These asparagus were really fresh and simple and didn't need a whole lot to make it delicious. It was perfectly steamed with a nice crunch, and was topped with a brown butter cream and sliced almonds.
- Artichoke, egg yolk and saffron - This wasn't bad, but of all the amuse bouches, this was my least favorite. It was a steamed artichoke with almost a hollandaise cream sauce tinged with saffron. I didn't think this one was quite as special.
Main Dishes:
- Sourdough bread & butter - While I appreciated that this bread was homemade, I didn't think it was any better than most bread that I get from other restaurants or from boulangeries. Whereas other restaurants keep bringing you unlimited bread with your meal, you only got once slice. I wish the bread had been a little more generous than one small slice.
- White asparagus, green garlic & herbs - This was my least favorite of the savory dishes - it was way too garlicky and it overpowered the white asparagus. The asparagus was fresh, but I couldn't taste anything except garlic.
- Morels, celeriac - The morel mushrooms here were fresh and plentiful in the dish and paired well with the roasted celeriac which naturally doesn't have a ton of taste. The plate was definitely an interesting combination of textures and had a kind of cheesy sauce.
- Romaine, lamb, and escargots - This was my favorite dish - I couldn't have lamb tartare but my other dining partners thought it was really good and fresh. I had a roasted eggplant instead that went well with the romaine lettuce prepared in a number of ways. The romaine lettuce was really fresh and it was a large portion so that we could make lettuce wraps. There was also a piece of lettuce that was grilled and served with a glaze made from the lamb jus. The escargots were also good and the texture was good - not overly chewy, and it was seasoned well. You almost wouldn't know that you were eating escargot. This was pretty simple, but really fresh and plentiful.
Desserts:
Parsnip, pear and walnuts - This dessert was really interesting; a little savory with the parsnip and sweet from the pear. I don't know if I would have eaten more of this, but it was a nice interlude from the savory dishes into the desserts.
Lemon meyer cake and sorbet - For 5 people, we got 2 small lemon cakes which were really fresh and delicious. It came with a sorbet in a mandarine or clementine, and went well with the cake. I really loved this dessert and could have eaten more.
All in all, a more vegetable heavy meal that some other French restaurants, which I definitely appreciated. They had some unique textures and flavors and combinations, but not too out-there, and the portions were decent sized, and half was served family style. It was a little on the pricey side, but I would come back here! read more
