My daughter made the reservations for Au passage and honestly I had no expectations going in. Our reservation was at 8:00 pm and we were immediately sat at a large table communal style. Our server explained in detail the menu in English. The food is served as they prepare it and is meant to be shared. I knew this restaurant experience was going to be a memorable one as soon as we tried our first dish, the Parmesan croquet with the chicken skin bits. Every bite of any dish explodes in your mouth with flavors you have not experienced before or never thought would go together. The mushroom dish was my favorite, the scallop blinis was my daughters and the cheese croquet was my wife's favorite. All of the personnel were hustling and bustling and looked like they were understaffed but service was on time with no issues. Restroom was standard and clean. There was an open bar but we only had wine. Overall great experience. After we left, I read that at one point this was a restaurant that Bourdain had recommended some time ago. I can say that the quality and originality of this place is still there and well worth of our time.

At the recommendation of our barista at Honor, the Mr & I were eager to try Au Passage & based on the protests, the normally booked restaurant had a table available - lucky us! There were 3 vegetarian dishes available that night (everything is prepared tapas style and we were recommended to choose 5 plates) and our server asked the chefs to prepare something special for us - ending with a cheese course, we had our 5 selections and were ready to go Spices and vegetables were fantastic combinations and expertly prepared. We enjoyed artichoke, celery root, beets and cabbage All paired with a wine recommended by our server that we never would have chosen for ourselves, I think she said it was a Gael or Galic or something like that but whatever the case, trust your server & you'll be well taken care of!

Anthony Bourdain, if you've seen the Paris episode "The Layover" then you probably know of this small 40 seat or so restaurant in the 11th eme, Au Passage. I should learn by now that if Bourdain wrote about a restaurant, I might not enjoy it as much as he did. Not that a spot wasn't fantastic at the time, but most things do change with time. This place hot back in 2011 and has changed chefs a couple times, and the fresh creativity shows in the cooking and presentation. The small menu changes often and while I wasn't wild about items offered on my visit, I am looking forward to coming back and trying future offerings. Earlier in the day I had checked online for a reservation and all times were open, checked again around 5p and only 10p was available. We called the restaurant and were offered a tall table which was perfect. The place is small and seemed filled with mostly locals, which is always a good sign. English speaking friendly servers did a great job of explaining the menu. Out of the 6 tapas we had the standouts were the Tempura Fried Butternut Squash, and the Sweetbreads were perfectly prepared.

I'm normally really wary of tapas/small plates places (blame DC and their overzealousness to jump on the trend) but Au Passage was very close to where we were staying and I saw some good reviews for the spot. (How many Bourdain mentions are there here on Yelp alone...) We walked in after eating some crepes (crepes are not filling enough unless you eat maybe too many of them...) to round out our dinner and also try to get some vegetables after a carb-heavy day. The menu changes really frequently, so I can't remember exactly what we ordered but: + Salad with escargots: I was craving hot, garlicky, buttery escargots but this cold salad was really tasty and refreshing, despite not being drenched in hot garlic butter. + Pigeon dish: OKAY I HAVE TO TAKE ISSUE HERE. I ordered this dish in its original iteration as DUCK, craving duck this day. The server comes back and tells me they are out of duck breast, will I accept pigeon instead? I've never tried pigeon, so I say sure, and it comes out looking a bit gruesome (leaving the foot seemed unnecessary...) but it still tasted fine. AND THEN. About 10 minutes later, I see them bring out the duck breast to another party that arrived after us and ordered after us, and it is indeed the dish I ordered in its original, intended form. I got a little bit peeved about this. Why wouldn't they serve us the duck? The pigeon tasted fine but it's very different from duck and duck was why I ordered that dish. :( In any case, this place seemed a little too cool for us (we are not very cool) but people were having a great time eating here very late at night. Definitely worth checking out because they are doing super cool things with their small plates as far as innovating with ingredients, and that alone is really worth tasting. Just please don't hide duck from me again thank you :D

Where to begin with this gem! If your a foodie and your in Paris let me help you make a decision where to dine.... Au Passage Tip - make reservations (they do offer walk-ins but be prepared to wait) This super chill place showcases one thing and that is the food! The restaurant is small, quaint and warm and the the menu change often for whatever is locally seasonal. We tired a pork mortadella, carrots, house mackerel, beef tongue, SALMON and a fig pie! Everything was good but that salmon.... ! It's a great place check to check out!

I certainly couldn't resist all the buzz and stopped in here myself to see if it lived up to the hype. It's definitely fun, quirky casual. And, that goes beyond just the decor - the staff were laid-back and friendly as well. I had called ahead to see if I could still manage to get lunch if I arrived at 2pm. And, in fact, I apologetically, arrived at 2:20 pm. Rather than being fussy or sniffy about it, the waiter was very cool and sat me down with my girlfriend who was already waiting and explained the menu. As opposed to the evenings (which I think are just tapas) they have an entree, plat, dessert menu at lunch. 9.50 for just the plat, and 13.50 for two. We took the plat, dessert and set in on a carafe of rose. She had the fish & I had the bavette. Those who like their meat well-done, beware. I didn't even think about the fact that I wasn't asked how I liked my meat, and this was very rare. More rare than I usually take it - but, damn, was it good. and served with lovely, fresh, original veggies. This turned into a long, lingering, boozy lunch. And a few hours later, after devouring the mains, and gossiping over her dessert and my cheese plate (with a few more glasses of wine to go along with those) we cashed out with a bill of around 50 Euros. This was by far one of the best quality/price meals I've had in Paris for a very long time. I will definitely go back to check out the tapas selection in the evening.

I literally wanna cry. Back in the states, with no au passage in sight. -_- Hubs and I stayed in an apartment above this restaurant and I had this place bookmarked way before our trip. Got there and they have crazy hours so they're only open from like 7pm to 130-2am. Every night, every single night we tried to go (6 days), line out the door. It was always PACKED! Always! The one night we actually got in, it was one of those nights where we said, "line out the door AGAIN, let's go grab a drink and come back for food." Came back at 12am, excited as hell, "woohoo- No line!" only to fail miserably. Miserably. They were done with dinner. I wanted to scream! Waitress said they still had a few desserts left so we ordered the only two we could. Tip: if you get in, order everything, don't hesitate because once they sell out - you're out of luck. And we got the last of one of the desserts to the disappointment of many other customers. One word - AMAZING. This review can only be for the desserts since we couldn't eat anything else but they were incredible. The flavors, the composure, I could go on and on. It was heaven in my mouth! I've tried to recreate the homemade maraschino cherry ice cream with fresh peach and yummy crumble and was so sad. I'm a great cook and it was not even close. The chefs are artists there!!! My monet of food. Crap, I know I'm rambling right now but it's just because this place was utterly heaven and I wish others could try the things we couldn't. Cannot wait to go back and have an entire meal there. Oh and the chefs, bartenders, waitress- all awesome and inviting. Ugh. I'll continue trolling ig at their food until I can be reunited again.

You know how the hidden gem restaurants are usually the ones in the sketchy areas that looks pretty run down on the outside and one you wouldn't think twice of going in if you knew nothing about it? Well, this is pretty much that. This restaurant is hidden in a little back street inside rue saint Sebastian. We circled the area 3 times struggling to find this road because it's so hidden and found in an alleyway. The outside isn't anything fancy but this place is pretty legit. Their menu changes pretty much daily so you can't know what to expect. Being a wine & tapas bar, we pretty much tried 1/3 of the stuff on their menu. The waitress was nice enough to sit down with us to explain each item on the menu with us in English and when it came to choosing our wine, they had a sommelier in house to make pairing recommendations based on what we plan to order - really cool being that we know nothing about wine! Food was awesome and you can't really complain about the pricing. Staff is friendly and it gets really busy later at night. We made reservations pretty much when it opens (kitchen opens at 8pm) so were the first to arrive. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good place to eat in Paris that isn't a tourist trap. Good value and great food!

Once again, we took Anthony Bourdain's restaurant recommendations in Paris and the dining experience turned out to be rather underwhelming. Service: Instead of helping us with the menu, the staff spent much time standing around and chitchatting with one another Ambiance: casual, dim Food: While the dishes were very innovative beautifully plated, they were either too tart or too salty. We might still visit the restaurant again though, considering we didn't get to sample a lot of dishes this time.

Great little tapas place, which i had seen mentioned in Bon Appetit mag. It's almost divey, looking like it has been "decorated" from yard sale finds, but the food is fantastic. So off the beaten path, it's filled with locals only. Our English speaking server was very sweet and went out of his way to help me decipher the menu. Just read somewhere that the chef recently changed.

For my first visit I would have given Au Passage 5 stars. For the second, only about 2. The first visit was such a great experience- inventive small courses, delicious flavours, only one course that wasn't really anything special, but all of the others were. My favourite course was the lobster arancini with lobster mayonnaise - seriously delicious. The second visit was just underwhelming. None of the dishes stood out as amazing, and things were generally a bit bland. We had a weird root vegetable thing, and some fried fish in guinness batter, and a scallop that we really had to force to come out of the shell. Based on this last experience I don't think I would go back, but maybe it depends on the night as they change the menu every day.

    Magret, lentilles, chaufignon. Yum!

Came here thinking it was going to be a little French bistro. French yes....but half the tables are all from the U.S. Order a bottle of wine vs by glass. Tapas style dishes which are all very good. We ordered the calamari (4 stars), salmon, mackerel, and duck. Dishes seem small when they came out but we are stuffed. Will definitely return.

Some highlights: The amuse bouche course was incredible end-to-end, but what really stood out for me was a blue masa shell holding mussel, sauce, and microgreens/herbs/flowers. The mix of the different herbs, the savory salinity of the mussel, and the sauces was wonderfully complex, yet also harmonious. The poached sea trout with pumpkin and horseradish ice cream was very satisfying. The mix of poached trout and horseradish cream was very familiar, yet the twist of making the horseradish a wholly different temperature and texture was really surprising and innovative. The monkfish in adobo was another extraordinary dish. I have only had monkfish liver before, but the way they were able to perfectly cook the monkfish gave it a texture and flavor reminiscent of lobster. With the spice of the adobo, it was a really well balanced dish. Additionally, all of the wines that we tried were also notable and delicious. Frenchie has definitely earned its Michelin star, and I wouldn't be surprised if it has another by the next time I come back.

The three of us were able to get a table around 7 PM (we didn't make a reservation). The ambiance is sophisticated yet laid back, and we were surrounded by a mix of locals and tourists. We decided to each order a glass of sparkling wine and a few small plates to share. The wine list was long while the food menu was quite short, but everything we ordered was delicious. Each dish provided a twist on classic appetizers - the gnocchi was served with an inventive "white cheddar foam," and the maple bacon biscuits struck the perfect balance of sweet and salty. We ended up lingering over our wine and enjoying the cozy ambiance longer than expected - a perfect way to spend a summer evening in Paris.

He chose it because of the reviews and also the fact that the seating area layout seemed to provide more space between tables than is sometimes the case. When we entered, a server directed us to the host station by the bar. My husband had printed out his email with the address & the reservation, and he had made some notes on it about things to consider on the menu. We were seated at a nice window table A woman did come right away to ask about sparkling or still water. Wines are by the glass--no bottles were listed that we saw. The server just stood over us for several minutes while we were looking at the menu, which was a little uncomfortable. So my husband explained we would need a few minutes. She seemed offended. Then the male host came over and insisted on seeing the paper my husband had with the email. He took it out of my husband's hand and started trying to read my husband's notes. I asked if there was a problem with the reservation--had they found it? The man said something about wanting to know if it was prepaid (do they do gift certificates in Paris? We had no idea what he meant). I said no, it was not, so he left again. The menu is prix fixe. A different server came to take our order. She was more upbeat and jovial. The amuse bouche was a pickled herring. I ordered the pumpkin veloute soup, which was yummy. Then I had the vegetarian plate, which was fine but not memorable: squash, mushrooms, and an egg on top. My husband ordered the sausage plate. At the end, I requested the check (l'addition"). The server asked twice if we wanted to add a tip to put on the card. I have not had that happen before in Paris, where the tipping conventions are different, and a 15% service charge is included in the prices by law. I asked if it was not included ("compris") and she said no, it was not. I did leave a cash tip. But all in all, some of those awkward moments with the staff detracted from the experience.

Some of the pairings were super interesting and really transformed the dish. However, on the day of our service, some dishes (such as the grilled endive) was a bit of a let down. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, and the skin perfectly crisp. The spaghetti was very fresh, well seasoned, and had these delicious chanterelles atop it. We also got a beet salad that was quite good: the beets were of high quality, tender (but not mushy), and there was a wonderful contrast in texture with popped quinoa that was mixed in a tasty beet puree. The cheese plate also had a Robuchon (maybe misspelled) that was deliciously creamy and unlike anything I've had before.

Fish La Boissonnerie was a great meal. I would say a bit more country style French. Cute place…read moreand everyone around us was friendly and seemed to enjoy their food and experience. When we walked in, we asked if we could sit upstairs, and they said that that's where the kitchen was, so no. It was funny - I can see why Americans annoy Parisians. We ask for a lot. For our entrees we had white beans, tartare tuna and tomato salad (you know that entrees' are appetizers in France). For our main dinners (plats) we had the lobster anise ravioli and monk fish, both excellent. The ravioli were large and the monk fish was a thick piece with great texture. I'd definitely go there again but probably won't because their are so many restaurants to try.

My husband and I shared the Liver, pork chops, and white asparagus. All were tasty but the Liver was by far the best thing I tasted while in Paris. I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a fan of liver in general and this completely changed my mind. It was cooked to perfection and the mixture of flavors was spot on. The only issue we encountered was when we were presented the check at the end of the night. We had proactively asked that it be split by couples, however that didn't happen off the bat so it took a bit longer than usual to check out.

After our first glass, our glasses remained empty for nearly an hour across several courses despite repeated requests. Meanwhile the sommelier continued serving other tables and even socializing with coworkers while our glasses sat empty in front of us. Because we were seated at the counter, the entire interaction was visible to nearby diners. There were some well-prepared dishes, but the inattentive service ultimately defined the experience.
