I worked with Sean getting my new phone set up and he could not have been more patient or helpful.

That was my experience with Astound/RCN.** Their door-to-door representative promised internet for $30 a month, inclusive of all taxes and fees, locked in for three years, plus a $100 gift card. What followed was a year and a half of rising bills, repeated calls, and unfulfilled promises. Within the first few months, additional charges began appearing. By around six months, the promised $30 monthly total was climbing. Eventually, my bill reached approximately $51.60--with the internet service itself listed at just $21 and the remaining $30-plus attributed to taxes and fees. Every time I questioned the increases, I heard the same explanation: "It's not us--it's taxes and fees." What value does an all-inclusive price guarantee have if the total keeps increasing? As for the $100 gift card, I called repeatedly. Each time, I was told it was being sent. It never arrived. The cancellation experience was the final insult. I first called on September 20 to cancel. I was asked to give them a couple of days while someone got back to me. My cancellation was finally completed on September 23--after their billing-cycle cutoff on September 21--and I was charged another approximately $51.60 for a full billing cycle. I contacted them before the cutoff, waited at their request, and ended up with another full bill. That is an outrageous way to treat a departing customer. Then came calls from supervisors offering deals to persuade me to stay. Where was that willingness to help when I was repeatedly questioning my bills and asking for the gift card I had been promised? **To me, this was deception: a sales promise that bore little resemblance to the actual experience.** Astound/RCN lost my trust through rising charges, repeated assurances that led nowhere, and a deeply frustrating cancellation process. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise anyone considering their service to get every promise in writing--and scrutinize the cancellation terms just as carefully as the advertised price.

Needless to say, my wi-fi was problematic, and Best Buy tried and tried to fix things to no avail. I was told to seek an I.T. company, I did my search, and Rod sold me over the phone on MVWFP. Jawaan and Jacob came to the house and hard wired most of my TV's using the coaxial cable that already existed. They also established various ports throughout the house so that the wireless wi-fi would work well everywhere. There was a slight problem that was fixed right away with a second (free) visit to the house. Several months after installation, the system is running perfectly. Rod and Jawaan are as good as it gets! Make the call to MVWFP, and your stress will disappear, at least with regard to wi-fi in your big old house!

All installed by me originally over the years, including hardwired gigabit Ethernet plus WiFi. Dead zones everywhere in the house and hardwired connections that weren't working. Rod responded quickly to my booking appointment on his website, and came in on the agreed date. As I knew, it was a mess. Took two days to straighten it all out including producing "heat maps" to show signal strength throughout every room in the house. it is actually quite difficult to find anyone who specializes in networking and WiFi. Most are electricians who do this as a side business and really don't have proper network training. As I determined, Rod has 20 years of corporate networking experience and clearly knows what he is doing. And frankly, my own lengthy experience in the computer industry allowed me to make that judgment pretty confidently after two days of many technical discussions. He knows what he's doing. I'm happy to make a referral to MVWFP to anyone who needs to sort out their WiFi and network challenges, residential or commercial. Very pleased. As is my wife who is not yelling at me any longer. About this, anyway!

I eventually switched over to another service provider. The agent also confirmed that my service had been cancelled and I returned them the router too. However, I kept getting emails from RCN long after disconnecting their services that I had an outstanding bill payment. When I called their customer service number for the 100th time I was informed that in their system my account was still active. I still need to make some more calls to them to resolve the issue. I have until now overlooked the increasing random fees and surcharges and their suggestions to call back repeatedly to try to negotiate a better price. What I cannot overlook is the horrible internet speeds we get. I call and complain to an Rcn representative almost on a daily basis. Every time I call and I run a speed test all of the sudden I'm getting crazy high speed internet. Then a few hours later I'm lucky if I get 5mbps connection. Attached are some examples. I have much more documentation of this phenomenon where one wonders if they're running a "rob Peter to pay Paul" scheme and don't actually have infrastructure to support all their customers. I am so frustrated and unless performance magically improves I will be actively looking to switch to another provider. If anyone has suggestions please message me.

MAKE SURE YOU READ THE FINE PRINT…read more The service is great. Installation guy was nice. I think that this service has the best HD quality compared to BELD (A local cable provider located in Braintree), Comcast & Verizon FIOS. Football games, movies and television shows were crystal clear using the same model of TV. No service is perfect however. I experienced a small outage during a really bad thunder and lightning storm which dropped my connection for about 5 minutes. I had my satellite professionally installed on the roof of my condo and it had perfect view of the sky with no obstruction. Not a big deal considering in any bad whether, you can expect the same outages with cable. Be warned of the $24.99 offer. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE LOCAL SPORTS networks like NESN. This would require an upgrade in your plan if you are a red sox and bruins fan. I haven't had time to fiddle with the DVR aspect of my box yet but will report about it as soon as i get a chance. I currently pay for america's top 120+ plus DVR service $6. Between the two major satellite companies, Dish Network seems to be the most cost effective solution for satellite pay tv. One more thing, i heard that Cable boxes and satellite boxes have a "handshaking" issue when connected to a receiver with an HDMI input. I went the safe route and used the HD Component cable to connect to my Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver. You would also need a optical cable to transmit the high definition sound to your receiver as well.
