I dined at Verde Taqueria on 8/26 when my client took me out for lunch. When they told me that we were going to a taqueria, I had figured that there would be traditional Mexican fare offered. I was pleasantly surprised though when I got a menu and they had some unique tacos.
Food: This place is definitely a great spot for a quick lunch that differs from that serves-up some unique combinations of tacos. Our table started with some tortilla chips and a trio of dipping 'sauces'. The trio came with Salsa, Guacamole, and Queso. The queso was excellent. It was super creamy, seasoned perfectly, and had a great consistency. Overall, the flavor was exactly what I wanted. The salsa was incredibly fresh. I loved the fresh tomato flavor coupled with the fresh cilantro and seasonings. Excellent salsa. The guacamole was some of my favorite guacamole...ever. It is actually very similar to mine and features avocados, cilantro, maybe some serrano, salt, pepper, and a little lime juice. Unlike many Mexican-themed restaurants, they did not over-lime my guac.

I got two tacos. Bang Bang Shrimp and Chimmichurri. First, Verde may want to consider a new name for this dish considering its stark similarity to Bonefish Grill's. Anyway, it was good. The chili-aioli had good flavor, the shrimp was seasoned well. I don't think I would order it again, but it was filling (3 / 5)
The second taco I got was the chimmichurri taco. I am really like well-seasoned food. Unfortunately, the combination of the marinade, the chimmichurri, and the pickled red onions made the overall flavor a little bit too salty. It may have had a little too much flavor -- couldn't even taste the natural flavor of the meat. I make an Argentinian skirt steak with chimichurri and understand how it is a bold dish, but you still have to respect the flavor of the meat. (3 / 5)

Service: The service was OK. In fact, it may have been a little bit below average. In fact, now that I think about it, it pissed me off. See how quickly that devolved into anger and turned sour? So, the service was hurried and rushed, which is fine because it was lunch time and they were busy. I ordered one taco for the restaurant, and one for later. The one that I ordered for later I had asked for at the end after we had paid. The server handed us our paid-for check, and when I asked about my to-go taco, she said, 'Oh, the food runner will bring that to you". 8 minutes later, the food runner brings me my taco...
You're telling me that you couldn't walk your ass back to the kitchen, grab my 1 to-go taco, and bring it out to me? You're too good to grab my food because it is a food-runner's job? That is bullshit. Wow, I am a lot more pissed about this than i should be. In fact, if I was not in the company of the client, I may have been a little more contentious. That is lazy, the opposite of being customer-service oriented, and rude. I don't care if 'Food Running' is not written in your little job description. It is your job to serve my table. And, now that I think of it ... so essentially, your only job is too take orders and fill drinks? WTF. If that is the case, then your service should have been 500x better. I served tables and had to balance 40 other duties at once in a busy 5 table section, and somehow ... some way ... I was still able to bring MY GUEST their to go order -- or box-up their leftovers -- or take a moment to stand and talk with them instead of being a snooty BITC- (you get it) and walking away like "Oh, they already paid, my job is done here.' Eff-That. Damn...

Atmosphere: This place is crowded, and there is a lot of construction going on in the area, so eating outside is un-enjoyable. This is not their fault, but currently, be aware that it is undesirable. Because of how busy and small this restaurant is, it makes the whole experience feel cramped. Plus, the servers are too busy trying to turn-and-burn their tables, and not customer service-oriented. This makes the restaurant a little bit of a drag. I would suggest grabbing to-go.

Price: The prices seem to be fair for the quality of the product that is given.

Final Thoughts: I honestly did not realize how annoyed I was at that singular instance of ignorant service until I started writing this review. I worked in the food service industry as a manager, and if heard any of my servers passively refuse to go get a customers order because it 'wasn't her job' to bring the food out, I would have lost my $hit and we would have had a serious 'coaching-moment'. Totally unacceptable.
If you are looking for a quick bite and in the mood for some eclectic tacos, then this would be a decent place to stop to quell that fix. Though, as I previously mentioned, I would grab them to go. Don't expect a server to give you your order though -- ya, that's the job of a 'food-runner'. read more
