I just got a pedicure from Venus today at lunch time. They have great service here. As far as I could tell, it is best if you make an appointment before going. I work around the corner, so this is not a big deal. They only had two people working and the place is very small. Upon arrival, my technician was finishing up a manicure on some guy. She was done within 2 minutes and put me in the pedicure chair. I had a choice of an anti aging foot soak or one specifically for better circulation. I chose the circulation foot soak. They keep the place clean as far as I could tell, and try to make it feel like a spa. She offered me something to drink and some magazines. I should have been relaxed, but I was too busy looking around trying to find some flaws with the place. Their prices are on the high side, so I was making sure this place is worth the money. My appointment lasted 30 minutes. I got a regular pedicure for $30 plus $5 for the french tip. The regular pedicure also includes the hot stone leg massage. I will get the $45 spa pedicure next time because I think it may be worth it. I will write an update later. read more

Don't be fooled by the dingy outer appearance of this little gem. Once you call and snag an appointment, you're all set. Who are these women who think they can just walk into a bustling little business and everyone and everything else will be dropped just to serve THEM? *Eye roll* It's not too crowded during the lunch hour, and sometimes we ALL need a little midday TLC, so why not slip in for a quick mani? Everything is clean and organized and super sterile. They use known polish brands like OPI and CND (not some mystery stuff that chips off before nightfall), and they use heated mitts for goodness sake. It was $40 for a gel polish removal and gel mani, and I loved it. Try to tip in cash if you can! They do take credit cards, however, and IMO they are worth every penny. Highly recommended! read more

I got a shellac manicure here during lunch since it was right around the corner from work. I mainly invest in getting gel manicures especially before business travel so that I don't need to deal with chipped nail polish and changing them while on travel over a 2+ week period. Pro: The ladies here (especially Kathy who did my nails) were very nice and professional. Con: The next day after I got my shellac nails done, the gel polish on my thumb nail chipped off while I was running off through Dulles airport security lines to catch a plane. While the nail shaping was nice, I think the problem was in her technique since she didn't 'seal' the edges that would make the polish last longer. I've gone rock climbing before and other more finger/hand-interactive activities with shellac manicures in the past with no chip issues from Dupont Nails & Spa, so I was very disappointed to have paid more than what I usually do for a shellac manicure (this was $35 +tip, whereas I normally get groupon deals or approx $25-30 at Dupont nails and spa ) that did not last as long. Furthermore, my cuticles were dryer/peeling, which did not while with my past shellac experiences (I don't think she applied solar oil prior to polish application). Disappointed in the experience, I went to Sephora after my trip and invested in the gelshine kit and did my own gel manicure. It's currently going onto day 4 and my polish has not chipped. read more

The prices are great! but It's been less than one day and my manicure and pedicure are very chipped. The lady who did my French pedicure didn't use a brush to touch up the edges, she just used the white nail polish brush straight on so it wasn't the best looking :( They have nice hot towels and rocks and lotions but when it comes to the actual painting it's unfortunately sloppy...I really wanted to like this place because of the great location but I don't think i'll be going back. read more

As usual, I checked Yelp out before making a quick run to the closest nail salon to my new office. My yelpers were right on point! This place is great! I saw that I should make an appointment if I head over at lunch time (there are only 3 techs), so I called ahead and they took me right away -- no wait. Once I picked a color I was offered a water, green tea, or a soft drink by my technician, Jackie. She also brought over a choice of magazines along with the glass of water. The services were great -- the pedicure included hot stone, my choice of scented sea salt and a great calf and foot massage. And the gel manicure ended with fresh squeezed lemon and a shea butter rub -- far more than I expected for the price. Another sweet bonus -- I got $5 off for getting a mani-pedi combo (offer good M-W); they also offer $10 off if you add brows (which I did not, I LOVE my brow lady). Jackie was very pleasant asking about my morning, she took her time and paid very close attention to detail. I asked that she "seal" the ends of my nails with the gel top coat based on a previous yelpers warning - and she did so with no problem. She was wonderful. Cards are accepted, and they will take the tip on the card, too :-) All in all it was great! I will go back. read more

Classless and just outright rude!!! So I got my nails done while I was out of town, and one of the nails broke. Venus spa and nail is right around the corner from where I live, so I figured I would just stop in and have them replace the nail for me. Plus I figured since it is in walking distance to home, if it was a good experience this would totally be my new spot! I would have never foreseen the experience that I had here. I was treated so rude it was absolutely appalling. So when I walk in, there are two people in the shop working, and they were with customers and you could tell that they had been working on those customers for a while. She doesn't tell me that they were too busy or couldn't help me right when I walked in. Instead, she asks me what do I need to have done. I told her that a nail broke, and I would like to have it replaced. When she realizes that she is not going to be able to cash in on me, from what I could make out, she then said they are busy and can't help me. With the Asian accent, I wasn't sure if I heard her right, so I asked that she repeat it again, and she pretty much just ignored me and wouldn't even tell me what she had said!!! Then after I stand there for a few seconds she says "we are with other customers now" ...so I ask, well is it not ok if I wait? She literally tells me no I am not allowed to even wait!!! While I understand that she they aren't going to get $50 or $60 bucks for an hour of work, if you do the math $10 for 5 minutes worth of work is a higher rate. Plus it's only 5 minutes of your stinking time and you would be building customer relationships. The whole experience really pissed me off. like really?!? You all can't even take 5 minutes to replace a potential repeat customer's nail? While I would have absolutely loved to hop a flight back to Missouri to get the nail replaced that just wasn't a feasible/economical option, so I thought I could just get it replaced locally. I love getting my nails done, and I always tip well, but this place is one that I'd never grace with my presence again, and for the rest of my life, I will always tell anyone who will listen never to go to this place because the person I encountered was a rude witch. If you want to go to a place where they actually treat people like...well people, and actually know a thing or two about customer service this is not the place to go. I wouldn't go to any place that would treat any person on the planet like they treated me. Pretty much I was told that I was not welcomed there. You are merely a price tag when you come into this place. There are so many better place that you can go in DC where they treat everyone with respect and dignity!!!! I've been to Venus many times but today will be my last. Cathy gave me a gel manicure approx 8 days ago. My gel started chipping very quickly and I know she didn't bring the gel polish closer to my cuticle line therefore causing my nails to look as if I needed a fill-in within less than two weeks. I decided to make an appt and politely inform her of how to ensure my nails wouldn't chip, etc...Boy did she take offense nearly yelled at me to GO TO JACKIE next time. I asked that she not be defensive in the matter she nearly harassed me arguing her point of her technique. She refused to do my nails even though my gel was soaking off. Jackie politely told me she would remove the remaining gel for free. I left the shop quietly but if my job wasn't around the corner she would have gotten an ear full. read more

The employees are genuinely nice and accommodating. I work in the building so it is great to come on break or after work and not have to use my family time. They're pretty busy during the day because a lot of professionals in the surrounding buildings are doing the same. The quality of service is outstanding. My polish never lasts as long anywhere else. After reading such great reviews on here, I was excited to find this nail salon so close to my house. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed. Unlike some of the other reviews, I was not offered anything to drink or magazines to read. Also someone mentioned that they felt like their massage lasted forever and mine felt like it was only seconds long. I called earlier in the day to see if I could make an appointment for just a pedicure at 5:30 and I was told that I could but that they close at 6:00 so not to be late. I asked if she was sure there would be enough time just to double check and she ensured me that there would be. I arrived promptly at 5:28 but sat in the massage chair for over 10 minutes before anyone came over to me. My pedicure didn't really even get started until 5:40. The water and bubbles in the foot bath were almost overflowing by that time. In the middle of my pedicure, I noticed that she didn't do what I get pedicures for (I really like when they use the cuticle cutters around the sides of my big toenails to relieve any kind of pain that's caused from the nail growing too far into the skin.) So I asked her if she'd do it and then she said no that I didn't need it, but in fact that was the reason I came. I did need it! They still hurt. Normally pedicures relieve that pain for about 3 weeks. When she painted my toenails, she didn't use any toe separators. I've also always had the experience of the technician putting my flip flips on before they start painting my toenails. She tried to put my shoes on AFTER my nails were painted. She also she asked me to pay and tip her before she had even painted my toenails. Keep in mind it's not like I couldn't use my hands to reach into my purse afterwards. A lady next to me was already painted and hadn't paid yet. It was also very awkward that she asked me from across the room in front of the other patrons how much I wanted to tip her. Then at 6:02 she finished and practically kicked me out of the chair and said next time I should come earlier. It was all so very rude and unprofessional and unexpected compared to the past experiences I've read about from people on here. I don't think I'll be going back, which is a shame because it is incredibly convenient for me. read more

Really good finished product. Mon, Tue and Wed, you can get and mani, pendi and eye-brow wax for $45. The service comes with a drink, a mint leg scrub and a hot stone massage but this is not the place to go for convenience! You need to make an appointment and plan to be there for at least an hour. Oh, and don't try and tip less than 15% - they will ask for more! All in all, I would have prefered a just quick trim, neat paint job and to get back to my desk a bit sooner. Got a late lunchtime pedi today. Venus is close to my office, and it's nice to see them in business again. I was a customer when they were in L'Enfant Plaza. As others have said, it's a small place, but they took me right away. They are clearly taking more than just two customers at a time now. The technician was friendly, efficient, gentle, skilled and careful. The place is very clean. The massage chair was wonderful. The hot stone massage was terrific. I was in and out in about 45 minutes--perfect! I watched another technician carefully wrapping another customer's fresh pedi in Saran Wrap to keep it from getting messed up because she had come in open-toe shoes. Now that's service! read more

I just recently left Venus nail salon and spa in southwest dc. I have come here many times during my lunch hour and noticed the flaw in customer service but I'm pretty easy going so I didn't hold it against them. TODAY WAS THE LAST STRAW. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. You may have had a pleasant experience before but you will eventually get the other treatment like i did. I made an appointment about 20 minutes before i was going to arrive. Due to work, i arrived 10 mins. late. I tried to tell her what happened and that I'd wait but while talking over me Cathy rolled her eyes after looking at the clock and said " sorry we have other customers now, come back next week, sorry, sorry" and shooed me out the door!!! Even the other customers were shocked. I've never been this mad at an establishment before. I've seen her do it to other people during lunch but they DIDN"T have appointments! I did! I was also willing to wait, and even said "so I can't get my nails done at all?" "Sorry Sorry (as she shooed me) was her reply. I"m so mad. I come to this nail salon often because it's close. At first I wasn't expecting much because the reviews weren't that great but I have to say that I don't just come here for the convenient location anymore. When You walk in, you are offered a drink, it's never crowded and good music is usually playing. The ladies here really take their time and pay close attention to details when giving mani pedis. The hot stones during the pedicure are MONEY, I crave the massage when it's been too long. I've been here many times and I'll continue coming back. The pricing is a little high if you compare it to some parts of VA and MD but I'm sure their rent is high too. The pricing is in line with other nail salons in DC. I've never had to wait in line or wait for them to do my nails when I've called in advance. Happy to have Venus to go to for my nails. read more

I have had several good experiences there, but my last experience really forced me to reevaluate and downgrade the services I received from Venus Spa and Nail. It came down to integrity, or in this instance, the lack thereof. I had mentioned to Cathy, the lady who did my nails, that this would probably be my last visit because my office was moving to Southeast. I then requested a gel refill. I had gotten a gel manicure at another salon and I really enjoyed it. As a Registered Nurse, I was impressed that the gel manicure left my nails beautiful and it was long lasting. Cathy typically gave me a silk? manicure., all I know for sure is that she used a lot of glue and paper, and although they looked beautiful for a a day or so, they did not stand up to the constant hand washing I subjected them to in the course of working.. So....I asked for the gel and she proceeded to give me the Glue and Paper treatment. I protested, and she stated that this process would be alright. YES, it was my fault. I thought she would add gel to it or something. And sure enough, 2 days later it started to peel. So, DON'T TRUST HER.!!!! I am just as angry with myself as I am with her. This place is conveniently located near office buildings so it is a quick run to during lunch to get a manicure/pedicure. That's about the only goof thing I have to say about them. They are unfriendly, unwelcoming and rude. They only have three technicians and they must have turned down 10 clients in the 1.5 hours that I was there. You can walk in and not even get a greeting. When I go to any other nail salon, technicians are basically running to the door to get your business. I scheduled an appointment for 12 noon for a manicure and a pedicure. My pedicure started first which was terrible. The technician barely touched my feet. She did not scrub the dead skin or get the ingrown toe nails out. When I brought this to her attention, politely I might add, she spoke in her language to her coworker. I was immediately offended. She said that the ingrown was too long, but in my opinion that is what they are there for! After my pedicure, which took an hour, the owner informed me that I couldn't get a manicure, which I had scheduled an appointment for. It wasn't my fault that the pedicure took an hour, and it wasn't my fault that they had other clients coming in and that they didn't have time to do my manicure. In my opinion, both are what I scheduled. Although convenient, I will never go to this establishment again. I will check establishments in Chinatown. I hope that Venus Nails gets boycotted and goes out of business or that another nail salon comes to the area. read more

Came here after work for a pedi. I would reccommend an appointment since the place is small but if you are getting other services like an eyebrow wax you should be okay to just walk in. There were about four technicans when I came (a Thursday at 5pm). I found them to be very polite but the service is nothing extra ordinary. Simple polish (no designs if thats your thing). I got the basic so my feet didn't get extra special attention so if you need scrubbing etc you should probably get the deluxe. All pedis come with a hot stone treatment which is really nice and my legs felt VERY moisterized after which I liked. The price for pedis ranges from $30-45 which I find is reasonable for the DC area. I would go again simply because its close to my job but I would not go out of my way to get here. read more

Terrible. Empty salon and told to come back in 5 hours for a polish change. I was in DC for a meeting and arrived with time to spare. I stopped in to get a polish change. When I went in at 11:00 a.m., the shop was empty, the lady at the front was getting ready to seat me and I explain I only need a polish change and she stops seating me and tells me I'll have to come back in 5 hours at 4:00 p.m. they might have time---as they are expecting other customers. While waiting for my appointment, I took care of emails in my car...30 minutes later I notice they have no customers and 2 employees sitting there doing nothing. I asked them about this, they said " our customers cancelled, so we can take you now". Seriously?! I really like this place. It is a clean, convenient and intimate setting. I used to go to Cathy and now I go to Ellen. She is great. I am sure the others are good as well, I just prefer to stick to one person with my hair and nails.
