Came to Veniero's on a weekend night for dessert with a couple of friends. The line (for both seated tables and to-go orders) was out the door but it moved suprisingly quickly. The wait staff were very quick with ordering which allowed tables to turn over but there was never any pressure to finish quickly. The cheesecake was the best but made my stomach feel weird afterwards. I would recommend to skip the cakes and lobster tails and go straight to the chocolate or regular cannoli. Make sure to eat it fresh! I also ordered a cannoli package from them through Goldbelly to deliver to my friend for Christmas. The Mr. and I were recently nearby, so took advantage of the opportunity to visit. We weren't the only ones who had the same idea. The line was out the door for 'to go' service, so we opted to be seated. There were so many options to choose from we got a little carried away and ordered 2 cannolis, a piece of Italian cheesecake, 2 lobster tails (one chocolate and one vanilla), a sfogliatella, a latte, and a Diet Coke. Of course we ended up bringing several of the treats back to our hotel room, but what we ate, we enjoyed. The Mr. was pleased with the Italian cheesecake and I loved the citrus cream folded within the flakey pastry of the sfogliatella. What an amazing place. A NYC institution that's been around since 1894. It used to be a pool hall and is now one of the best Italian bakeries in NYC. It feels like going back in time when you step inside and it smells terrific. The Italian cheesecake is terrific, I'd even venture to say if you don't like Italian cheesecake, you will like this one. You can taste the ricotta in it, very reminiscent of my grandmothers. As for the rainbow cookies, not my favorite, but still superior. They have less almond flavor and are more jam and cookie forward. My husband loves them from here, I think they're great l, but I prefer the more almond forward flavor. They are also coated with chocolate on all 4 sides. The cookie is not try at all and they are dense. If you're in NYC, stop by and give it a try. If you're into Italia bakeries and pastries, this place absolutely has to be on your list of bakeries to try. read more

There's not much I love more in this world than a good ol' fashioned Italian Bakery. I have my go-to treats and barometer that I judge by, and while I understand that this is an institution in NYC...everything I tried was kind of a miss. I sampled the rainbow cookies, chocolate dipped cannoli, and tiramisu. I opted to sit in the cafe area and enjoy as I had some time to kill. Thankfully - no real line upon arrival. If you're looking to take to go, hop on line. If you're looking to dine in person, head to the back hostess stand. The rainbow cookies were some of the worst ever I've had. Dry to to the touch with a plastic-y mouthfeel, dense, cut to a slim slice, with chocolate on the outside that crumbled. Nothing craveable or light about this cookie. Sadness. I honestly feel similarly about the cannoli. Maybe everything had just been sitting out too long? My perfect cannoli shell has a bubbly crisp to it that can maintain it's composure while still feeling light. This was whatever the opposite of that is. Dense, weighed down. I know I ordered the chocolate covered option but alas. I felt there still should have been a little zip to it. Nevermind the fact that the shell was SO thick with minimal filling on both ends leaving almost none in the center. Once again, sadness. Tiramisu: GOOD! Liked this. Light and airy with good ratio of lady fingers to filling and dust you'll blow everywhere if you're not careful. Even just being able to get a clean cut like the one they have is impressive. I would get this again. Maybe their more robust dessert offerings are the way to go here? Maybe I need to try again in the morning? This was a place I knew I had to experience while in New York City. After exploring the big apple all week it was time to have some amazing sweets. Sweets with a historical significance dating back to the late 1800s, 1894 to be exact. Founder Antonio Veniero established this landmark 130 years ago. Can you imagine that? They serve the most traditional Italian delectables that have been featured all over the news and media for decades. 13 decades to be exact. And they haven't missed a beat since day one. Antonia Veniero came here with a dream to open a confectionery which evolved into one of New Yorks most highly decorated bakeries. With over 150 options of baked goods your heart endlessly desires. I opted for a few goods. The infamous sfogliatelle, rainbow cookies, plain cheesecake, fruit cake, cannoli, eclair and last but not least the tri color mousse. Shoutout to Uber eats for delivering to the hotel. Once we got the order it was time to go to town. Each item was as good as the other. But nothing in my book was better than the sfogliatelle. Crunchy outer layers filled with cream. That was possibly my favorite. Also the tri color mousse. Another game changer. And the eclair, and the cannoli, I mean everything was pretty darn good.
