I got an iced americano with a splash of almond milk which they let me pour myself from a little pitcher. the espresso was smooth and the almond milk was clearly not that trash almond breeze brand - I got the malted cinnamon roll. duh. the roll is soft with a stretchy consistency in the dough. the frosting is the perfect mix of sweet vanilla bean with a rich tang from the malted flavor. I wish there was a bit more frosting between the grooves however as it sat in the sun the frosting dripped down between the layers. read more

Came close to opening in a weekday morning and there was no crowd + plenty of seating~ Cakes don't come out until 10 am and they were still adding more to their pastry case around 8 am, so maybe don't go too early if you want the full selection! They also have drinks and savory sandwiches and pastries too + a seasonal menu. - Triple chocolate chip cookie (5/5): a big cookie with big puddles of varied-sizes chocolate, nice chew, a little too salty in some places where the salt flakes aren't evenly spread out. The scone was soft and crumbly like cake in the middle but was also dry too. The top with the frosting was the best part; it was sweet but didn't have much of pistachio or rhubarb flavor. Small bakery that sells out of a number baked goods by noon. So, that means this place is tasty! I got here by 1pm and grabbed a slice of carrot cake and their honey cake and got a booth that fits about 4 very small people in the back. The cakes were a really large portion and we didn't finish it all. So when they ask for here or to go, ask to take them to go even if you eat it in the bakery. The carrot cake was so good. It had carrot and coconut like frosting and a lot of other flavors. Just loved it. The honey cake is not like a Russian honey cake. It's a frosted cake that tasted like gram crackers? Stopped by on a rainy Sunday afternoon and still had to wait in line, although thankfully it wasn't too long. I had really high expectations for this place based on all the hype, and it completely delivered. I picked up some of their most popular items, including the triple chocolate chunk cookie, a cinnamon bun, and the honey cake. All three were fantastic. I even had to walk more than a mile home in the rain, and somehow everything held its shape perfectly by the time I got back. The honey cake was incredibly moist with a cozy, warm flavor. The cinnamon roll was soft and delicious, and I loved the cream cheese icing. My sister is obsessed with Hani's Bakery and took me there on a Saturday morning. There was a line out the door, but it moved fairly quickly. When we got inside, we ordered the Souffle Egg Sandwich, Shakshuka Croissant Tart, Meyer Lemon Meringue Pie, and Cookie Butter Monkey Bread. The interior was tiny but we managed to snag a small table right away. The first item we tried was the Shakshuka Croissant Tart, which might have been my favorite. The pastry was perfectly flakey and I loved the runny egg with feta cheese. Next, we tried the Meyer Lemon Meringue Pie and Cookie Butter Monkey Bread. Both of these were awesome, although the monkey bread was a bit too decadent for me. Again, great textures all around! The Souffle Egg Sandwich sandwich took a while to come out, but was worth the wait. I loved the milk bread, and green sauce was the perfect tangy compliment to the creamy cheesy eggs. The line was thankfully not too long and we were able to secure a malted cinnamon bun ($8.50) as well as a slice of their famous honey cake ($14). The bakery was packed inside so we opted to take our treats to Tompkins Sq Park to enjoy. I thought the cinnamon roll at Hani's looked gorgeous, with a smooth, thick malted frosting poured on top. But I felt the pastry underneath was actually the driest and most dense out of all the cinnamon rolls I tried that day. It lacked the lightness and fluffiness that I expected but I did like the flavor of the malted frosting. I had very high expectations for the honey cake as well, since it was listed on NYT's Top 25 Essential Pastry List but unfortunately the cake fell short for me. As someone who grew up eating medovik, I thought Hani's rendition veered too much on the tart side and the cake layers, again, were too dense and didn't melt in my mouth. I also got the triple chocolate chip cookie, and while it's $8, the size of the cookie is def generous. The food here was delicious and the service was top notch - the vibe is energetic as they have a long and narrow seating area so you end up close to everyone when it gets busy. And it gets busy! I heard a lot about this spot and when I randomly was in the area, my friend and I lined up to try it out. It was already 3pm, so not many items were available left. We ended up ordering the Pumpkin Spice Banana Bread and Pistachio Rice Krispie, both around $7-8 each. It's a pretty good-sized portion for the price, but didn't find the flavor to stand out much for me. My friend also ordered the Spicy Tuna Sandwich ($18), which was thick and filled. The spicy tuna flavor was delicious although messy to eat with the soft tuna and avocado mixture. Overall, I wasn't very impressed with Hani's, but I did like their atmosphere and aesthetics of the space. The Chocolate Cake was okay...I really liked the texture and level of sweetness, but it lacked the cocoa flavor I would expect from a cake like that. It's not fully clear what vibe Hani's is going after - I'd probably characterise it as "elevated nostalgia," but there are also some more nouveau items, especially on the savory side. We stuck more towards the nostalgia end and shared a cinnamon bun and brownie. The frosting on the cinnamon bun was a bit too much for me, and I definitely preferred the moist and rich classic brownie execution. The hot chocolate was good although perhaps a bit thick. I love both the sweet and savory options at Hani's! The staff here always have the best recommendations when I ask for favorites. Here's some of my favorite pastries I've tried. -Paneer tikka pinwheel: The pinwheel is crispy on the outside with layers, like a croissant. And the paneer tikka filling adds a nice spice with a slight sweetness to it to balance it all out. -Turkey Swiss pinwheel: This is a fun take on turkey swiss flavor since it has gochujang, seaweed, and a little sweet and spicy flavor. I love the combination of all the flavors! -Cookie butter monkey bread: Absolutely delicious and filled with so much cookie butter. Also crispy on the outside, soft and layered on the inside. Even the inside is filled with cookie butter with some cinnamon mixed in as well. They only have this on weekends but definitely recommend!
