Hands down best cheesecake I ever had in NYC or anywhere else for that matter. Hani's straddles between the East Village and NoHo in the Cooper Union area a few blocks from good ole St. Marks. There is always a line outside on the weekends, so if you don't want to wait, go during the week or early. I've only come here for the cheesecake, nothing else. It is bomb! The ratios are just right and it's almost orgasmic. Grab a slice and stroll toward Washington Square Park and enjoy the cake with a latte. The staff is always friendly and courteous, they don't act like the other pre Madonna assholes you see in the area. The seating area is actually pretty chill, I've had a cake by the bar before and there can be some prime people watching during prime time. Been wanting to visit this bakery for months since it went viral on social media and finally made it! I know their pastry chef used to work at Gramercy Tavern so I had some high expectations. There was a slight line to get in but it was well organized and moved relatively quickly. I knew they were known for their cinnamon roll, cookie, and cakes so I knew I had to get some of those. We decided on the cinnamon roll and their honey cake. The cinnamon roll was so soft with a niche cinnamon paste inside and an ooey gooey cream cheese icing on top. I usually hate cream cheese icing and I liked how this one wasn't cream cheese heavy so it wasn't too tangy. The honey cake was super moist and tasted like those teddy graham cookies. Note: Their menu, outside of a couple of offerings, changes pretty frequently or changes up the ingredients, so the pastries I got and liked might not be the same pastries. I had first tried this tasty bakery's products back at Eater Off Menu, which was just about a year ago, back in September. They were giving large slices of their famous Carrot Cake, which was very tasty. Compared to most, the buttercream was better, as it was silky, and it was slightly differently spiced than a typical carrot cake. I slightly preferred the texture and flavor of the more traditional Lloyd's, but it was a fun rendition. The other time was a few months ago, as per many of my other recent reviews. There was a bit of a line with plenty of people going in and sitting down, while others like me and others who I was with were taking stuff to go. One of the owners, Miro Uskoković, was outside and greeting customers, and he seemed very friendly from the short interaction I had with him. I ordered two pastries to go, a signature and something seasonal that I was interested in. The signature pastry I got was the $7.50 Pistachio Halva Rice Krispie/Crispy Treat. By comparison to a typical rice crispy, it was a bit denser, and I liked how chewy it was. There was a bit of nuttiness from both of the ingredients, with some pistachios studding the outside as well. Outside of the nuttiness, I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet. Overall, I liked it a lot, and if the lines weren't super long, I would probably stop in more often for this as a large snack to take home. The other pastry was a Sour Cherry Coffee Cake, with nutty oat streusel and mahleb for $6. Like the other dessert, it was lightly sweet, with the pastry being soft. The oats were slightly crisp with some nuttiness and a mix of interesting spices, presumably also from the mahleb. There was plenty of sour cherry inside to balance out the spices and add more texture. Overall, I preferred this. I can see why people like this place a lot. It's a bit pricier, but they make fun, tasty spins on your typical pastry, and I don't find the prices too egregious compared to some other spots. read more

After asking for recs from the barista, I ended up having the Strawberry Passionfruit Croissant, Chocolate chip cookie, and maple sea salt latte. The strawberry passion fruit croissant was my favorite! The tartness of the passion fruit filling and sweetness of the strawberries balanced each other well. The cream was very delicious but after awhile I got full very quickly. They added some salt to the carrot cake so it was different for me. I lovveee carrot cakes as it is one of my favorites but I think I will stick with one with no salt in it. Berry elderflower shortcake - I thought it was a strawberry shortcake at first. After 400 Instagram reels telling me to try Hani's, I did - I went & did the most nyc thing ever & waited in line for food. there were about 10 people in front of us & the line moved pretty quickly. probs 10 minutes outside on the sidewalk then 3 mins inside - I am happy to report this pastry joint also had good coffee. I got an iced americano with a splash of almond milk which they let me pour myself from a little pitcher. the espresso was smooth and the almond milk was clearly not that trash almond breeze brand - I got the malted cinnamon roll. duh. the roll is soft with a stretchy consistency in the dough. the frosting is the perfect mix of sweet vanilla bean with a rich tang from the malted flavor. The workers were attentive and made sure to get to every customer or at least acknowledge their wait time despite how busy it was inside the bakery, that was very appreciated. The food and drink matched the service also. I got the maple sea salt coffee which was perfect. The maple flavor wasn't overly syrup tasting or sweet, and the cold foam added a great savory salty contrast that lasted long after the foam mixed in the drink. When we got inside, we ordered the Souffle Egg Sandwich, Shakshuka Croissant Tart, Meyer Lemon Meringue Pie, and Cookie Butter Monkey Bread. The interior was tiny but we managed to snag a small table right away. The first item we tried was the Shakshuka Croissant Tart, which might have been my favorite. The pastry was perfectly flakey and I loved the runny egg with feta cheese. Next, we tried the Meyer Lemon Meringue Pie and Cookie Butter Monkey Bread. Both of these were awesome, although the monkey bread was a bit too decadent for me. Again, great textures all around! But I felt the pastry underneath was actually the driest and most dense out of all the cinnamon rolls I tried that day. It lacked the lightness and fluffiness that I expected but I did like the flavor of the malted frosting. I had very high expectations for the honey cake as well, since it was listed on NYT's Top 25 Essential Pastry List but unfortunately the cake fell short for me. As someone who grew up eating medovik, I thought Hani's rendition veered too much on the tart side and the cake layers, again, were too dense and didn't melt in my mouth. The chive cream cheese and salmon was a great combination. The watermelon radishes gave this dish a new, elevated twist on a bagel with cream cheese. Hani's Bakery is worth all the hype! I've stopped y a couple times and it's best to go early in the morning to avoid waiting in line. They always have several seasonal items, so there is always some new to try. They have a good mix of savory and sweet items, cake slices and even sandwiches. Most recently I picked up a seasonal hibiscus rose morning bun, which was a great combo of flavors. The turkey Swiss croissant was so flaky and nice savory pastry. There are so many items to choose from, making it a good spot to go with a few people and split a bunch of things. Definitely a must go! read more

I heard a lot about this spot and when I randomly was in the area, my friend and I lined up to try it out. It was already 3pm, so not many items were available left. We ended up ordering the Pumpkin Spice Banana Bread and Pistachio Rice Krispie, both around $7-8 each. It's a pretty good-sized portion for the price, but didn't find the flavor to stand out much for me. My friend also ordered the Spicy Tuna Sandwich ($18), which was thick and filled. The spicy tuna flavor was delicious although messy to eat with the soft tuna and avocado mixture. Overall, I wasn't very impressed with Hani's, but I did like their atmosphere and aesthetics of the space. I do need to come back and actually try the honey cake, cinnamon roll, and savory baked goods instead --I'm more hopeful for those. read more

We tried a selection of items from Hani's and I really enjoyed the experience. The Chocolate Cake was okay...I really liked the texture and level of sweetness, but it lacked the cocoa flavor I would expect from a cake like that. The Cinnamon Bun was great - perfect roll with the most incredible cream cheese frosting...if this were served warm, it would be spectacular! The Triple Chocolate Cookie was insanely good - buttery and not overly sweet...these were so great, I bought extras to take back with me. The space itself is cute and has a "modern diner" vibe...it has a decent amount of seating, but the place isn't gigantic, so I'd expect certain times to be busier than others. They have such unique pastries and so many options! We tried the cinnamon roll, chocolate chip cookie, carrot cake, and paneer tikka pinwheel for food. The cinnamon roll was warm and soft with a delicious frosting on top. I personally like more frosting in between the layers but it was still a solid cinnamon roll. The chocolate chip cookie and carrot cake were fine, but I loved the paneer tikka pinwheel. Very unique and it was a great savory item. For drinks I've tried the hot chocolate and honey cake latte. The hot chocolate was on the dark chocolate side with a slightly salted whipped cream on top. The honey cake latte was nice and sweet and another unique menu item. Overall I'd definitely come back and try more, I feel like I only scratched the surface read more

I've only ever had delicious items from here. The maple sea salt latte is worth the wait and traveling to get. The cookie is delicious and you can tell uses quality chocolate. But I love the savory items they have as well. I tried the shakshuka tart and wow. If they have this -- get it. Will be going back here a lot! read more

The food here was delicious and the service was top notch - the vibe is energetic as they have a long and narrow seating area so you end up close to everyone when it gets busy. And it gets busy! I had a grilled cheese with ham on milk bread and it was really tasty. My coffee was excellent as well. My dining companions raved about their pastries. This is a great spot for parties of two as most of the seating is a counter and then smaller seating areas that will mostly fit two people. They have a strong takeout business so that's always an option, take and go sit in the park! read more

mixed feelings on this one. the strawberry croissant tart was amazing the tart (ha!) passionfruit curd really cuts through the sweetness of the pastry and is super yummy. the pastry itself reminded me a lot of a palmier texture and taste wise. not rlly a croissant i would say. 10/10 the cinnamon bun was sickeningly sweet very classic cinnabon-esque. fine for the first few bites but got to be wayy too much after. 4/10 the ham and cheese sandwich was very average. tbh de fer's ham and cheese hand pie is better lol. super greasy and heavy. 3/10 rly regret getting this for lunch since so many yummy savory foods exist in the area if i only got the strawberry croissant tart this would be my top bakery. but unfortunately everything else i got is rlly mid :,-( cute seating tho definitely go on a weekday if you don't want to wait. i probably would only wait for the tart but nothing else read more
