From Lucie is a darling bakery with equally lovely bakes. Their cakes are aspirational: perfectly moist with delicious layers of delicate frosting. Their carrot cake is phenomenal, and so is their Victoria sponge. The chocolate chip is decadent and melty, perhaps too rich for my taste, but I can see that it's well made. The brightly colored lemon curd has a sour, but lively flavor. Freshly chopped thyme is infused in the shortbread crust. I cannot fathom why the color of the crust on the other side is completely different. Regardless of color, this bar is an "A" all the way! I am not even a huge cake person but the cakes here were absolutely delicious. Shares two slices, the vanilla and the carrot cake. Sat outside, seating is very limited, there's maybe 3-4 extra tables outside. The cake was fantastic, one of the best I had that I can recall. The cake itself was so moist. The cream was delicious and airy. I would say that was the best vanilla cake I've ever had. And of course, they were beautiful to look at. The carrot cake was also good, but definitely the star for me was the vanilla. Cake may be a bit sweet to some, I thought it was fine but my party felt it was a tad too sweet. Oh my goodness, this is one of the best cakes I've ever had! (And I'm not really into sweets). A friend brought a couple slices for a gathering, which were amazing. Not only are the cakes beautifully decorated, they are just as delicious. I had the Carrot Cake and Earl Grey Vanilla ($10 each) and I couldn't even decide which one I liked more. The buttercream is so velvety and creamy while the sponge cake is incredibly moist. Also love how strong the flavors are, especially the earl grey which really shined. I'm obsessed with these cake slices. And they're also individually packaged in the cutest boxes --perfect for gift giving. read more

Some of the most beautifully aesthetic cakes I've ever seen. The carrot cake was so delicious and also has no nuts. The frosting was not too sweet and surprisingly I loved this a lot. Ordered: 8" Lemon Olive Oil Cake with Lavender Swiss Meringue Buttercream (~$140) Aya's take: My 2400th review! From Lucie is creating edible works of art in the shape of cakes. They are truly slices of artistry! These masterpieces are exactly what I was looking for an event I was having and I decided to place an order. The online ordering process is absolutely seamless and might only take longer if you have a custom request. I arrived right around my pickup window time and the cake was ready; I was in & out within 5 minutes. My one complaint was that they put it in a box that didn't close. I wonder if they purposely left it open for air circulation? I don't know. It was for an event that was taking place 6 hours later so we kept it in the fridge and took it out about 1-2 hours before and it was just right. The lavender buttercream was a lot thicker than expected and the lavender was extremely light to taste. The lemon olive oil cake was fantastic as it's not too heavy, too sweet, or too rich. Got the chocolate chip cookie and the chocolate stout cake both were so good but not my favorite in the city. I prefer a chewier thicker cookie. The richness and the chocolate of the cookie was great though. The rosemary cream cheese frosting on the chocolate stout cake is really subtle, but still really good and rich. I had been dying to try these cookies and was so freaking excited that I finally did and they lived up to the hype! From Lucie, has been on my "must-try" list for some time now and the last time I was in NYC and I knew I had to make my way over and get my hands on them. They're soft, and crisp on the edges, suuuuuper thin, and simple. The chocolate with a dash of seasalt makes it probably the most well balanced cookie I've tried! The chocolate chip cookie is very flat and crispy. It has a lot of salt in it. It is quite tasty, but I noticed it was a tad light on the chocolate chips. Not by much though. But if you like crispy cookies, this is definitely one to try. read more

From Lucie's carrot cake transported me to Lagos, Portugal, where I had the "best carrot cake ever" from a spot named From Alex (!). The similarities are uncanny. It's crazy I found the best carrot cake ever --again --state side and I truly love this so much for me and all of us. You need to experience it too, trust me. This one includes a beautiful stem and is just so damn pretty. Honestly just the creme fraîche alone had me weakkkkk. The most perfect bite. You don't want to eat it all too fast. This is meant to be savored. I saved half for the next day and it tasted just as good. Worth every bit of the $10. Happy the rumors about the best chocolate chip cookie got me here. That was really good too. The sweet to salty to bitter to butter ratio is on point. It packs so many layers for a thin cookie. The chocolate is quality. I was very impressed. I tried From Lucie's stout cake at a pop-up today and without ever stepping foot in this bakery before, I now want to go and live there and try every single cake this extraordinary Pastry Chef makes. The stout cake was unbelievable. At first I was amazed by how gorgeous the cake looked. I was in awe of the flowers, decoration, and just absolute loveliness of it. Then, I tasted it, and wow, my son and I stayed quiet for a moment. That's how special it was... I soon went around asking at this pop-up (that had nothing to do with cake) what bakery this cake was from? Who are they? What magic is this? Delicious! I recommend the gluten-free carrot cake--light, moist, and fluffy, with decadent fromage praise buttercream. I was also a big fan of the chocolate cake with salted dark chocolate espresso buttercream--definitely richer and more filling. Wow, incredibly fond of from lucie! My roommate got me the choc for my bday and i got my mom carrot cake and earl grey vanilla for hers. All are stunning!!! The fromage frais icing on the carrot is to DYE for and the choc is nice and rich, without being cloyingly sweet. My only wish is that the vegan earl grey had more blackberry to cut through the sweet. But i will for SURE be coming back to try other things, esp the choc chip cookie. Awesome spot!! read more

amazing cakes! didnt come at first because we thought the flowers were sort of a novelty but wow, only cakes to rival Hani's so far! Have to do a side by side, but the chocolate espresso cake is a perfect moist cocoa crumb with a very generous amount of sticky rich frosting. I've been wanting to try From Lucie since I saw the cakes on instagram. The interior is quite small and there's really only room for maybe 3 people to comfortably wait in line before it trickles outside. I specifically came for the cake, but noticed a bunch of people asking about their cookie. I ended up getting a mini carrot cake and a chocolate chip cookie, and it did not disappoint. The cake was "just right" in terms of moisture and density. There is a subtle hint of zest in the cake and it paired nicely with the frosting. I appreciated the size of the actual cake. If I wanted, I probably could've finished the whole thing in one sitting. The cookie was thinner from your usual cookie, but was the size of my face. Definitely not your average cookie but I can see what all of the rave is about! Mine was fresh, and still warm from being in the oven. The chocolate was nice and gooey. Again, a little bit on the sweeter side, but well balanced with the sea salt. Overall, I enjoyed the pastries that were offered. They are on the pricier side. The cake alone was $17, but still worth the experience. I docked one star for customer service. The gal at the register looked miserable and clearly did not want to be there. No smile, and zero customer service. read more

Delicious pastries are here From Lucie. I tried their banana bread loaf and thin cookie and they were both deletable. I also had their carrot cake slice but unfortunately it fell flat because of how dry it was. The service was friendly and the shop is quite small with several window seating as well as outdoor tables. They close decently late for a cake shop in the East Village. Overall, I would try more of their pastries and cakes and hopefully get a good slice next time. No bathrooms. Small shop. Accepts cash, card and Applepay. We came and I understand that it was 6:30 and they were closing soon, so there were only a few cake options left. I really liked the vegan cake so for $11 a slice it was worth it. I don't understand all the bad reviews, but I stopped by here after working nearby. I couldn't decide what to get, but my coworker decided on the GF Carrot Cake and I followed her lead. After reading the reviews, I wish I had gotten a chocolate chip cookie as well, but alas. I will say, the GF carrot cake was delicious. So good, in fact, that I ended up saving half the cake for my friend who is GF. I froze it, and gave it to her about 2 weeks later. It stayed well, and she did really enjoy it. The people working the counter could have been a little friendlier and a bit more helpful about the options and what they'd recommend. Honestly, I will probably be back here, because that cake was good. I'd like to see what other options they have and also would definitely want to try their chocolate chip cookie. I'd also want to try one of their vegan goods in the future. My kid has an egg allergy, but the only vegan item they had that day had an earl grey frosting which he wouldn't have enjoyed. read more

LOVEEEE the vegan earl grey vanilla cake!! And I'm not even vegan and never ever choose vegan options - I only tried it initially bc I was intrigued by the earl grey icing, and I'm sooo glad I tried it. One of the best chocolate chip cookies in NYC too! (Second only to wegmans in my opinion lol). Carrot cake is also super delicious, and I'm very grateful they don't put nuts in it bc I'm allergic What is most surprising about this place is that the matcha is phenomenal!! I'm always hesitant to try matcha at non matcha specific places bc it almost always disappoints, but I saw someone else ordered it and I liked the color. This is probs my second fav matcha in NYC (second to PPL, and yes it ranks above kijitora and Kettl which has gone downhill in my opinion) Do yourself a favor and order a matcha or a latte w the orange blossom syrup!! Went to From Lucie as part of an East Village bakery crawl and ordered a savory scone with cheddar and peppers(?) and one chocolate and one vanilla choux pastry. The scone tasted fine but wasn't anything I'd return for. The choux pastries on the other hand were light and ethereal (both pastry and cream), the cream being sublimely sweet, not cloying, so it would be easy to down a handful of these. Worth a visit if you're in the 'hood. read more

I've only heard great things about this quaint little spot and I was very excited to hear they have one of the best chocolate chip cookies in the city. I came here very full from lunch so I only grabbed a cookie but the cakes looked so beautiful and appetizing I really need to come back and try them. As for the cookie, it was pretty phenomenal. I typically like thicker cookies but this one has such perfect flavors and the best texture. The chocolate used is amazing. It was more on the bitter side and the banana cream top kind of tasted like an unripe banana but once mixed it was a little bit on the sweeter side. peach iced tea: my friend said she'd rate it a 7.5 but was refreshing! saffron bun: loved this one- reminded me of challah and had a nice hint of saffron while it being doughy but firm. cinnamon roll: perfectly sweet, gooey, and soft interior. It was quite delicious-- just a little too much icing for me but overall a good texture. I'd come back for the sweets but probably not the drinks.

For example the red velvet & the strawberry snack cakes were wonderful. I loved that you could really taste the butter in the cake. I also enjoyed the snowball (pink marshmallow & coconut over chocolate cake) just based on nostalgia- if you remember those from childhood. I didn't go for a full cake (maybe that's my mistake lol), I just grabbed the blackout snack cake and a swiss roll. Both were... fine. Like genuinely not bad, I ate them, no regrets, but I also wasn't sitting there like "omg I need to come back tomorrow." The blackout snack cake was super chocolatey (which is the whole point) but it felt kinda dense/heavy and after a few bites I was like ok yeah, I get it. The swiss roll was soft and cute and all that, but it tasted pretty standard? Not dry or anything, just not memorable. Service was totally fine. People were nice, quick, normal, no weird vibes. I didn't do a big convo with anyone but they were friendly and helpful enough. Ambiance is actually really nice though, bright, clean, cozy in that bakery way, kinda calm. It's a cute place to pop into and it smells good in there. One thing though: I didn't see any deals/specials and it felt a little pricey for "snack cake + roll" that were just ok. I'm guessing the full cakes are better and that's what people are really coming for. If I go back, I'd probably try a slice or a full cake situation, because I feel like I didn't order the right thing this time.
