I am not even a huge cake person but the cakes here were absolutely delicious. Shares two slices, the vanilla and the carrot cake. Sat outside, seating is very limited, there's maybe 3-4 extra tables outside. The cake was fantastic, one of the best I had that I can recall. The cake itself was so moist. The cream was delicious and airy. I would say that was the best vanilla cake I've ever had. And of course, they were beautiful to look at. The carrot cake was also good, but definitely the star for me was the vanilla. Cake may be a bit sweet to some, I thought it was fine but my party felt it was a tad too sweet. Would be balanced out well with a non-sweet drink. Staff was kind and warm. Helpful and got us our order in a nice timely fashion. read more

Ordered: 8" Lemon Olive Oil Cake with Lavender Swiss Meringue Buttercream (~$140) Aya's take: My 2400th review! From Lucie is creating edible works of art in the shape of cakes. They are truly slices of artistry! These masterpieces are exactly what I was looking for an event I was having and I decided to place an order. The online ordering process is absolutely seamless and might only take longer if you have a custom request. I arrived right around my pickup window time and the cake was ready; I was in & out within 5 minutes. My one complaint was that they put it in a box that didn't close. I wonder if they purposely left it open for air circulation? I don't know. It was for an event that was taking place 6 hours later so we kept it in the fridge and took it out about 1-2 hours before and it was just right. The lavender buttercream was a lot thicker than expected and the lavender was extremely light to taste. The lemon olive oil cake was fantastic as it's not too heavy, too sweet, or too rich. I would absolutely come back to try Lucie's cake slices & cookies and super excited for her success! read more

Oh my goodness, this is one of the best cakes I've ever had! (And I'm not really into sweets). A friend brought a couple slices for a gathering, which were amazing. Not only are the cakes beautifully decorated, they are just as delicious. I had the Carrot Cake and Earl Grey Vanilla ($10 each) and I couldn't even decide which one I liked more. The buttercream is so velvety and creamy while the sponge cake is incredibly moist. Also love how strong the flavors are, especially the earl grey which really shined. I'm obsessed with these cake slices. And they're also individually packaged in the cutest boxes --perfect for gift giving. read more

Got the chocolate chip cookie and the chocolate stout cake both were so good but not my favorite in the city. I prefer a chewier thicker cookie. The richness and the chocolate of the cookie was great though. The rosemary cream cheese frosting on the chocolate stout cake is really subtle, but still really good and rich. I want to come back and try more and support this woman owned business!! read more

Went to From Lucie as part of an East Village bakery crawl and ordered a savory scone with cheddar and peppers(?) and one chocolate and one vanilla choux pastry. The scone tasted fine but wasn't anything I'd return for. The choux pastries on the other hand were light and ethereal (both pastry and cream), the cream being sublimely sweet, not cloying, so it would be easy to down a handful of these. Worth a visit if you're in the 'hood. read more

I had been dying to try these cookies and was so freaking excited that I finally did and they lived up to the hype! From Lucie, has been on my "must-try" list for some time now and the last time I was in NYC and I knew I had to make my way over and get my hands on them. They're soft, and crisp on the edges, suuuuuper thin, and simple. The chocolate with a dash of seasalt makes it probably the most well balanced cookie I've tried! The place itself is so cutie, a big yellow entryway + a small feminine store front where you'll find other pastries, beautiful cakes and a bunch of blooms that will undoubtedly make your day. read more

I've tried From Lucie on multiple occasions. Their cakes are very decadent and rich. Also! Very beautiful presentation with flowers..easily instagrammable experience. Personally it's too sweet for my taste but I do enjoy the cafe itself. Their tea selection is great and people at the counter are very sweet and welcoming! read more

From Lucie's carrot cake transported me to Lagos, Portugal, where I had the "best carrot cake ever" from a spot named From Alex (!). The similarities are uncanny. It's crazy I found the best carrot cake ever --again --state side and I truly love this so much for me and all of us. You need to experience it too, trust me. This one includes a beautiful stem and is just so damn pretty. Honestly just the creme fraîche alone had me weakkkkk. The most perfect bite. You don't want to eat it all too fast. This is meant to be savored. I saved half for the next day and it tasted just as good. Worth every bit of the $10. Happy the rumors about the best chocolate chip cookie got me here. That was really good too. The sweet to salty to bitter to butter ratio is on point. It packs so many layers for a thin cookie. The chocolate is quality. I was very impressed. Wow, incredibly fond of from lucie! My roommate got me the choc for my bday and i got my mom carrot cake and earl grey vanilla for hers. All are stunning!!! The fromage frais icing on the carrot is to DYE for and the choc is nice and rich, without being cloyingly sweet. My only wish is that the vegan earl grey had more blackberry to cut through the sweet. But i will for SURE be coming back to try other things, esp the choc chip cookie. Awesome spot!! read more

Unfortunately they were sold out from an event the day prior, so I panic ordered a mini chocolate cake. Now this tiny cake ended up being $17 because it was pre packaged with a *live rose* as decoration. If you plan to eat quickly (instead of gifting), might I suggest ordering an $11 *slice* of cake instead? I tried From Lucie's stout cake at a pop-up today and without ever stepping foot in this bakery before, I now want to go and live there and try every single cake this extraordinary Pastry Chef makes. The stout cake was unbelievable. At first I was amazed by how gorgeous the cake looked. I was in awe of the flowers, decoration, and just absolute loveliness of it. Then, I tasted it, and wow, my son and I stayed quiet for a moment. That's how special it was... I soon went around asking at this pop-up (that had nothing to do with cake) what bakery this cake was from? Who are they? What magic is this? Yes, this cake was magical...I haven't tried like it before...and if you haven't tried her cakes before either, please do. Delicious pastries are here From Lucie. I tried their banana bread loaf and thin cookie and they were both deletable. I also had their carrot cake slice but unfortunately it fell flat because of how dry it was. The service was friendly and the shop is quite small with several window seating as well as outdoor tables. They close decently late for a cake shop in the East Village. Overall, I would try more of their pastries and cakes and hopefully get a good slice next time. No bathrooms. Small shop. Accepts cash, card and Applepay. Indoor/outdoor dining and take out available. Not only a cake shop, but they also serve some espresso drinks. Bon appetit! read more

I've been wanting to try From Lucie since I saw the cakes on instagram. The interior is quite small and there's really only room for maybe 3 people to comfortably wait in line before it trickles outside. I specifically came for the cake, but noticed a bunch of people asking about their cookie. I ended up getting a mini carrot cake and a chocolate chip cookie, and it did not disappoint. The cake was "just right" in terms of moisture and density. There is a subtle hint of zest in the cake and it paired nicely with the frosting. I appreciated the size of the actual cake. If I wanted, I probably could've finished the whole thing in one sitting. The cookie was thinner from your usual cookie, but was the size of my face. Definitely not your average cookie but I can see what all of the rave is about! Mine was fresh, and still warm from being in the oven. The chocolate was nice and gooey. Again, a little bit on the sweeter side, but well balanced with the sea salt. Overall, I enjoyed the pastries that were offered. They are on the pricier side. The cake alone was $17, but still worth the experience. I docked one star for customer service. The gal at the register looked miserable and clearly did not want to be there. No smile, and zero customer service. read more

Initially we were only going to try the chocolate chip cookie but the almond croissant cookie sounded too intriguing to ignore. The chocolate chip cookie was good, I'm personally not a fan of salt on top of cookies but I know it's a popular thing. The almond croissant cookie was amazing in my opinion. I don't understand all the bad reviews, but I stopped by here after working nearby. I couldn't decide what to get, but my coworker decided on the GF Carrot Cake and I followed her lead. After reading the reviews, I wish I had gotten a chocolate chip cookie as well, but alas. I will say, the GF carrot cake was delicious. So good, in fact, that I ended up saving half the cake for my friend who is GF. I froze it, and gave it to her about 2 weeks later. It stayed well, and she did really enjoy it. The people working the counter could have been a little friendlier and a bit more helpful about the options and what they'd recommend. Honestly, I will probably be back here, because that cake was good. I'd like to see what other options they have and also would definitely want to try their chocolate chip cookie. I'd also want to try one of their vegan goods in the future. My kid has an egg allergy, but the only vegan item they had that day had an earl grey frosting which he wouldn't have enjoyed. read more

LOVEEEE the vegan earl grey vanilla cake!! And I'm not even vegan and never ever choose vegan options - I only tried it initially bc I was intrigued by the earl grey icing, and I'm sooo glad I tried it. One of the best chocolate chip cookies in NYC too! (Second only to wegmans in my opinion lol). Carrot cake is also super delicious, and I'm very grateful they don't put nuts in it bc I'm allergic What is most surprising about this place is that the matcha is phenomenal!! I'm always hesitant to try matcha at non matcha specific places bc it almost always disappoints, but I saw someone else ordered it and I liked the color. This is probs my second fav matcha in NYC (second to PPL, and yes it ranks above kijitora and Kettl which has gone downhill in my opinion) Do yourself a favor and order a matcha or a latte w the orange blossom syrup!! Definitely one of my fav caffeinated beverages in NYC (and I usually don't go for syrups so this means a lot!) read more

I've only heard great things about this quaint little spot and I was very excited to hear they have one of the best chocolate chip cookies in the city. I came here very full from lunch so I only grabbed a cookie but the cakes looked so beautiful and appetizing I really need to come back and try them. As for the cookie, it was pretty phenomenal. I typically like thicker cookies but this one has such perfect flavors and the best texture. The chocolate used is amazing. I would absolutely add this to your nyc cookie list if you have not tried it because you need to! read more

This was promising but it just got so bitter as I kept eating it?? Like i get the dark chocolate bit but stg they used 100% cocoa like idk- texture was good but probably wont go for this one again; also maybe i got a bad batch? maybe I need to try it on a different day. Okay, this review is based on me stopping in at 6:45pm, before they closed at 7, to pick out what they had left, so that does affect my experience - I got the vegan vanilla blackberry earl grey cake, and it wasn't anything special in my opinion. If anything, the cloying sweetness had me tapping out after just two or three bites. That's not to say it wasn't a pretty little slice, dressed with edible flowers. And going the measure of vegan ingredients. And the shop is cute and has warm lights. But the cake slice itself - $11 for something I'm just meh about is disappointing. read more

Stopped in while browsing around LES and was drawn by the adorable exterior! It's definitely French inspired and has some sidewalk seating with only a few small bar seats inside. It doesn't seem like a spot where they encourage you to hang out, so keep that in mind. I tried the Victoria Sponge Cake ($11 a slice), which was so light and fluffy. Not too sweet as well! All of their cakes looked delicious and are regularly switched out. They also had mini cake versions, but they weren't displayed when I was there, so I didn't know until afterwards. Overall, solid cake and a cute shop. I heard a lot of people order the chocolate chip cookie so I'll definitely try that next. read more

This much-hyped bakery offers a small selection of cakes decorated with lots of fresh flowers, cookies, and loaf cakes. It's giving elevated American bakery with prices to match. I was shocked that a modest slice of cake here was $12 so I only ended up getting one. It came adorned with a giant flower on top but honestly I would be happier paying less money for cake without the flowers because the effect was instantly lost once it was placed in a takeout box. And really--the cakes are good enough to stand on their own. This was one of the best carrot cakes I've had in a while. The cake was moist, light, and tender in crumb. The cream cheese frosting had a satisfying tang and a delicate whipped texture. My husband and I were fighting each other for spoonfuls of this. We seriously could not stop eating it. And while some carrot cakes can leave you feeling too full, this one never felt heavy. Unlike the cakes, the chocolate chip cookie though was really disappointing. The cookie batter was missing all the lovely toasted brown sugar/toffee notes that a good chocolate chip cookie should have. It also had way too much salt on top, and I'm someone that loves a good salted baked good. We compared it side by side with the Pastry Box, which was a short walk away, and their chocolate chip cookie easily won. Skip the cookies and come here for the cake! read more

I had to try the chocolate chip cookie that I had seen on so many "best of" lists. It is indeed insanely good, with a rich chocolatey center, a brown butter-flavor crunchy crust, and sea salt dusting the top. I personally prefer a little more of the cookie in the cookie-to-chocolate ratio, but that's just my preference. The latte was just OK, nothing special, but it came with some nice latte art on top, which made for an aesthetic photo. There are just a couple of seats inside and outside, but I was easily able to snag one on a weekday afternoon in December. read more

I've worked in restaurants and bars long enough to understand that staff drinking happens, but this was on another level entirely. I came in with a group of friends and one of the bartenders, Will, was so visibly drunk that it made the entire experience uncomfortable. Slurred speech, wobbling behind the bar, taking orders while chewing food with his mouth open -- it was honestly embarrassing to watch. He looked like he absolutely did not want to be there. At one point, my group had been trying to get his attention for another round for quite a while while he stood around talking with coworkers. We then watched staff take a shot together, and when he finally came over he burped mid-conversation and literally had whatever he had just been drinking dribbling down his neckbeard. That was the moment where the whole thing went from unprofessional to just gross. What made it worse was that it didn't seem isolated to one employee. Throughout the night we watched staff openly taking shots and drinking behind the bar like it was a house party instead of a business. There's a difference between bar culture and complete lack of professionalism, and this crossed that line hard. One of the friends I was with actually frequents the DUMBO location and said that the last time she was there, the same bartender also seemed intoxicated, which makes this feel less like a bad night and more like an ongoing issue. The DUMBO location itself is in an amazing spot, which makes it even more disappointing. But ownership seriously needs to get control of what's going on there before someone gets hurt or the place develops a reputation for having drunk staff on the clock. Unfortunately, the experience was uncomfortable enough that my girlfriends and I won't be coming back. I genuinely hope the employee mentioned gets help if this is a regular thing, because nobody should be working service in that condition.
