Just passed this bakery on my way to my daughter's daycare and it looked very cute and cozy! Also I needed to charge my laptop and luckily the wall got outlets for us to use. I saw their best sellers list and immediately got a pistachio cherry croissant and an iced HawaiJ latte! The pistachio cherry croissant was so good! I could taste the pistachio and cherry melting in my mouth! It was so good! The HawaiJ latte had a nice sweet taste to it that's very addicting and keeps on making you crave more of the coffee every time you take a sip. read more

This thing was a hockey puck--in the most endearing way possible. Thick, gooey, and stuffed with a whole ferrel rocher chocolate. I got in with no line and the worker in there was super nice... why do people say that New Yorkers are mean? I mean, the folks I encountered, Michaeli included, all love to chat and shoot with you so long as you are genuine and things aren't bustling. In any case, the rocher cookie was intoxicating. Soft, rich, and insanely creamy from the melted ferrel rocher ball inside. All in all, a superb cookie. And yes, it does beat some of the viral cookies the city has to offer. Michaeli Bakery is one of my very favorites. When we heard they were opening a location near me uptown we were excited. I can't remember how long ago it was that I was in this neighborhood on Division Street. I can't recommend their baked goods to much these days. The customer service is always friendly and timely. The baked goods are fresh baked daily. The taste is absolutely amazing. If you don't see the item you want just ask. They keep the pastries coming out all day. Wonderful tucked away bakery gem! Came across this place on Yelp when searching for spots on LES. Popped in on my last morning in town for some quick treats. Small shop more suited to grab and go but it does offer some breakfast bar seating. We opted for a banana chocolate croissant, halva croissant, and feta pastry. All three were delicious! The banana chocolate one was not overly chocolatey which I appreciate. The croissant textures were also on point with a nice crispy outside layer. Service was very friendly! We were in LES and decided to give this cute little bakery a visit . I tried the pistachio cherry croissant which was pretty good (4/5) and my wife took the spinach-feta borekas which was really good (better than the one breads sell, as a point of comparison ) and a rogale, which was ok+ (good dough , they could use out a little more chocolate filling ) We also got brew coffee which was nice and a hot chocolate on almond milk which was pretty bad We will be back to try out some other pastries (eg halva croissant ) read more

Michaeli Bakery is an Israeli bakery with excellent Jewish classics, like babka and rugelach, as well as other common favorites like cookies and croissants. I'm a particular fan of the nutty and cinnamon-rich Grandma Babka ($16), which was a holiday special for Rosh Hashanah. Although very sweet, the combination of spices, mixed nuts and dates, with cinnamon crumble on top, was superb. Their rugelach is made with their babka enriched dough, and is laminated with dark chocolate and Nutella. While smaller in size than say Zabar's and Kossar's, their rugelach are more delicate and less dense. I've also tried their spinach bureka, cheese bureka, and spicy cheese sticks. While still good, I found these to be less remarkable and memorable than their babka and rugelach. The bakery is small with, as I recall, just one table outside for seating. Definitely hoping to try more of their baked goods, including their challah in the future. Notably, they offer vegan challahs, babkas, and doughnuts, which are uncommon. read more

This is one of my favorite bakeries in NYC, and I have to stop by to load up on their delicious baked goods every time I'm in the city. The halva croissants, when they have them in stock, are absolute heaven. I always buy extra just to keep in my freezer since they reheat well in the air fryer. The chocolate babka is also excellent, up there with the best in the city. I've also tried a goat cheese and za'atar pastry, which was delicious, and the rocher cookie I picked up last time I stopped in was also wonderful. Huge, chewy, and studded with hazelnuts. I've literally never had anything bad from this bakery. The bakery itself is more of a carryout operation even though it's clean and bright inside. When I read a former baker from Breads Bakery opened his own spot and makes the same babka? Be still my heart. My wife and I were looking for coffee and a baked item for breakfast so I set the Nav to Michaeli Bakery. Walking in, the display of available baked goods is different from a typical French bakery. When do you see different flavored Burekas? Forget about all that, I spy with my little eye a almond croissant. Covered with slivered almonds and powered sugar, babka can take a back seat. I grab two coffees, my almond croissant, my wife's spinach and cheese bureka and a chocolate chocolate chip cookie. My wife and are back in the car, sippin' Java and giving each other high fives. She loves her bureka. My almond croissant? The first bite has that flaky delicate crunch. Then, almond paste shows up, hidden beneath all the flaky goodness. I'm in heaven right now. We finished our pastries and I break out the chocolate chocolate cookie. I break off a small piece and we look at each other. Wow! The chocolate is so rich and deep, I was in a daze and almost drove off the west side Highway. 10 Yelp stars, I can't wait to return. read more

Michaeli bakery is truly a hidden gem in the Chinatown area. Its small locale is very cozy and welcoming --as well as the delicious scent of their pastries and breads. Service is very quick and this location is not too crowded, unlike what I've heard about the new location that opened in the UES. On my latest visit I got: Tahini cookies: simple yet very elegant and classic. They come packaged in a very cute blue box so could easily be purchased as a gift for a dinner host/ friend who has a birthday or other special occasion. Small, yet powerfully addicting. These are your version of a peanut butter cookie but, instead, with the richness and flavor of tahini. Perfect amount of sweetness and with a very pleasant crumbly consistency that is not too crunchy but a bit chewy. I'm obsessed with these and could eat the whole box in one sitting. Spinach and feta boureka: amazing puff pastry filled with rich feta cheese and generous bits of spinach. Full of flavor! The combination of the buttery, flaky pastry, salty feta cheese, and spinach is just divine. It also has a nice addition of some texture/extra flavor with the sesame seeds on top. I ate mine at room temperature but I imagine eating it hot might be better! I was a big fan. Chocolate rugelach: another amazing staple. Reminds me of a croissant but a bit more dense and less flaky. Full of rich buttery and chocolate flavors. Not as sweet as I expected so I was pleasantly surprised. Just perfect. My parents who were visiting from LA got this and loved it. This bakery is truly something else. The service is exceptional and the quality of their breads/ pastries/ cookies, no matter if they are savory or sweet, is just extremely high. On Fridays they sell challah which you can call for and ask about availability in advance (had I had more room in my hands for carrying things that morning, I would have 100% gotten a loaf... looked delicious!)
