Walked here two days in a row. I have a feeling this will be my new go to spot even though it's a 40 min walk there and back. The food was so good I left and immediately walked back after eating it on the walk. The burekas are great. The croissant was quite good even when I ate it a day later. There's a seating area and the staff are nice. read more

Stumbled in here because I just needed a snack. I got a chocolate croissant and regular croissant and burekas. I still don't know what a bureka is but I highly recommend you finding out! It was delicious! My kids loved their croissants. I wanted to go back and get more things to try but my kids were rushing me. This spot is well worth a try! read more

Well there is a lot of coffee shops around lower East side by Manhattan bridge. Some of them have decent baked goods This shop stands out being there is a multitude of different flavored croissants and baklava. A plus it's also baked by same owner. And the coffee is pretty good. Usually stop by before lunch time and order an iced latte with croissants. I love baklava and looks so good. But right now I am working on cutting out sugar in my diet. There are a few seats to relax if you have the time. read more

Just passed this bakery on my way to my daughter's daycare and it looked very cute and cozy! Also I needed to charge my laptop and luckily the wall got outlets for us to use. I saw their best sellers list and immediately got a pistachio cherry croissant and an iced HawaiJ latte! The pistachio cherry croissant was so good! I could taste the pistachio and cherry melting in my mouth! It was so good! The HawaiJ latte had a nice sweet taste to it that's very addicting and keeps on making you crave more of the coffee every time you take a sip. read more

Michaeli is one of my top 3 for croissants in the city. It's soft, flakey, buttery and the interior is perfectly tender. The service is usually fast and friendly. Great spot if you're downtown! read more

I could potentially really like this place, based on the galil pastry, which was lovely-- sweet and savory with nice lamination. The two pieces of rugelach I tried were decent, but a little too sweet, and the brewed coffee was not good. Small shop with quaint seating. Service was friendly, but maybe a little too engaged in their personal conversation and got the coffee order wrong. Seems like a popular shop along regulars, but my experience was just fine. read more

Cute little store. Has many different pastries and the cashier was nice. The pastry i got was delicious

Stumbled across this tiny Chinatown spot while searching for a walkable breakfast. The small space was immaculately clean, with goodies packaged beautifully and nicely arranged in the case. The barista and other guests were so friendly and helpful they had me smiling before I tasted my iced latte, which was a perfect blend of espresso and milk. But that's not the best part. Two words: banana croissant. Please. A big, beautifully browned croissant filled with banana and pecan, and topped with a dark chocolate drizzle. I didn't get to eat it until I got home that night, but it was one of the best things I've ever had. Just perfectly buttery, sweet and crunchy, with the depth of the chocolate... I'll be making this a stop every trip. read more

My favorite babka in the city! It's so good and would definitely recommend! I've liked everything I've tried but my other favorite is probably the spicy cheese straw. New york is loaded with bakeries, and plenty of viral ones at that. But, make it a point to find the holes in the wall. Michaeli bakery is one of those hidden gems. A nook, but it has plenty of flavor. I was on the hunt for a solid cookie and michaeli delivered. They had 2 options available, a double chocolate or the rocher cookie. I went rocher. This thing was a hockey puck--in the most endearing way possible. Thick, gooey, and stuffed with a whole ferrel rocher chocolate. I got in with no line and the worker in there was super nice... why do people say that New Yorkers are mean? I mean, the folks I encountered, Michaeli included, all love to chat and shoot with you so long as you are genuine and things aren't bustling. In any case, the rocher cookie was intoxicating. Soft, rich, and insanely creamy from the melted ferrel rocher ball inside. All in all, a superb cookie. And yes, it does beat some of the viral cookies the city has to offer. It did appear they had a pretty limited menu. Of course with only 2 cookie options and it appeared there was not a huge selection of pastries as well. Still, loved the cookie. A fantastic treat. This is going to be a dense, hearty cookie. 1 is plenty to satiate any sweet cravings you may be having read more

We arrived somewhat close to closing time so they didn't have a huge selection but I came for their Chocolate babka which they still had a few left. It was maybe around $13.. lil expensive compared to the ones I've had before.. few dollars more but the chocolate was a good quality. It was crispy outside and softer inside. It was a lot tastier than we expected.. We finished it quickly. read more

Michaeli Bakery is one of my very favorites. When we heard they were opening a location near me uptown we were excited. I can't remember how long ago it was that I was in this neighborhood on Division Street. I can't recommend their baked goods to much these days. The customer service is always friendly and timely. The baked goods are fresh baked daily. The taste is absolutely amazing. If you don't see the item you want just ask. They keep the pastries coming out all day. I'm posting photos of some of their regular pastries. My favorite is the Spinach Feta Boureka. I really enjoyed the Cinnamon Roll too. Go inside and tie on your feed bag! read more

Michaeli Bakery - Almond Croissant - Bakeries Near Me - New York, New York

Famously, the guy behind Michaeli used to work at Breads, and he's brought over his genius babka to his solo bakery. I've visited the UES location, but this was my first time at the LES original. I grabbed a piece of chocolate rugelach, which was wonderful, and a loaf of the chocolate babka, which may just be my new favorite babka in NYC. I need to try the croissants next time - I had an almond one at their UES location that was otherworldly. read more

The bakery is pretty small but they have very limited seated inside. I personally got the pistachio cherry croissant and it was absolutely delicious - possibly my favorite croissant in the city. It wasn't too sweet and the cherry jam wasn't overpowering, and there was just the right amount. The only problem is that it cost $6.90 which is quite pricy in my opinion but otherwise, so so good. read more

Wonderful tucked away bakery gem! Came across this place on Yelp when searching for spots on LES. Popped in on my last morning in town for some quick treats. Small shop more suited to grab and go but it does offer some breakfast bar seating. We opted for a banana chocolate croissant, halva croissant, and feta pastry. All three were delicious! The banana chocolate one was not overly chocolatey which I appreciate. The croissant textures were also on point with a nice crispy outside layer. Service was very friendly! Coffee-wise, just know that the coffees are small and weren't very strong. Would definitely come back when I am in town again! read more

We were in LES and decided to give this cute little bakery a visit . I tried the pistachio cherry croissant which was pretty good (4/5) and my wife took the spinach-feta borekas which was really good (better than the one breads sell, as a point of comparison ) and a rogale, which was ok+ (good dough , they could use out a little more chocolate filling ) We also got brew coffee which was nice and a hot chocolate on almond milk which was pretty bad We will be back to try out some other pastries (eg halva croissant ) read more

WOW! This bakery is a gem! We finally came here on a day off and tried a few of their pastries: 1) cheese burek, 2) spicy cheese stick, 3) halva croissant, 4) pistachio cherry croissant, 5) banana choco croissant. Cheese burek - super flakey, soft, cheesey and savory. Loved it very much! This item was very small but I liked the size as I wanted to try their other items without feeling full. Spicy cheese stick - spicy, cheesey, flakey and savory. I also liked this item very much! It had a good spice kick and tasted great! Halva croissant - Very unique! I have never tried a halva croissant before. Very soft, flakey and had a good halva flavor. Pistachio cherry croissant - WOW! Highly recommend this item! It had such a nice pistachio cherry flavor & it was soft and flakey. We loved it so much, we went back on line to buy 2 more! Choco banana croissant - Another WOW item! Also highly recommend this! It had a super delicious choco banana flavor & was also soft, flakey. Taste was excellent! We also loved it so much, we went back to get 2 more! Highly recommended! Excellent pastries, especially their choco banana & pistachio cherry croissants! Great delicious burek & spicy bread stick! Will try their babka and other items next time. Staff was very friendly and nice. Some indoor and outdoor seating. read more

Best Babka I've ever eaten in my entire life. Next time I'm here I'm buying like 6. The staff was chill and helpful. Michaeli Bakery is an Israeli bakery with excellent Jewish classics, like babka and rugelach, as well as other common favorites like cookies and croissants. I'm a particular fan of the nutty and cinnamon-rich Grandma Babka ($16), which was a holiday special for Rosh Hashanah. Although very sweet, the combination of spices, mixed nuts and dates, with cinnamon crumble on top, was superb. Their rugelach is made with their babka enriched dough, and is laminated with dark chocolate and Nutella. While smaller in size than say Zabar's and Kossar's, their rugelach are more delicate and less dense. I've also tried their spinach bureka, cheese bureka, and spicy cheese sticks. While still good, I found these to be less remarkable and memorable than their babka and rugelach. The bakery is small with, as I recall, just one table outside for seating. Definitely hoping to try more of their baked goods, including their challah in the future. Notably, they offer vegan challahs, babkas, and doughnuts, which are uncommon. read more

I did a little Manhattan food crawl with a coworker and added this gem to my list and they did not disappoint. Banana chocolate croissant was heaven. A kindr bar cookie that was decadent. Great dark chocolate baklava!!! Moist and not overly sweet. I can't wait to return and try their other tasty treats.

Oh my goodness, the baked goods are so delicious! They're known for their chocolate babka, and rightly so! I like to warm up my slices so that it's buttery and chocolatey. Very indulgent indeed! Tiny cheese burekas are also sooo good. One-two bites and you're done but for something this small, it packs a lot of layers and filling read more

Pretty good savory items, most notably the popular galil. The burekas were okay, slightly dry here or there but certainly better than most bakeries that try burekas but really have no business doing so. This is one of my favorite bakeries in NYC, and I have to stop by to load up on their delicious baked goods every time I'm in the city. The halva croissants, when they have them in stock, are absolute heaven. I always buy extra just to keep in my freezer since they reheat well in the air fryer. The chocolate babka is also excellent, up there with the best in the city. I've also tried a goat cheese and za'atar pastry, which was delicious, and the rocher cookie I picked up last time I stopped in was also wonderful. Huge, chewy, and studded with hazelnuts. I've literally never had anything bad from this bakery. The bakery itself is more of a carryout operation even though it's clean and bright inside. There are a handful of seats, and they've always been empty when I've been there, but my impression is most people grab their pastries and go. read more

The biggest hidden gem in the lower east side by far. Quality bakeries are few and far beyond in the glut of cafes and bubble tea shops that have sprung up in the neighborhood.
