There's nothing like a fresh scone with butter and homemade jam. I'm not usually into scones but this one was the best I've had! The hype is there for a reason. I arrived at 9:30am on a Friday and there was a line and a lot of people waiting for their order. After about 20min in line, it took another 20-30min for my order to be ready. They serve the scones fresh from the oven so be patient! The scones are nice and hot, and it's amazing with the butter and homemade blackberry jam. It's not dry at all and has a nice crispy crust with a soft inside. Overall, it was great to try but definitely expect to wait a bit when you come!

We had to try Mary O's scones after seeing them on social media and learning about it through Humans of New York, and was not disappointed. We expected a line and there was one , but it moved at a steady pace. You can smell the Irish Soda Bread from outside and the smell of butter. The shop only sells scones topped with Irish butter and blackberry jam. The scones are made with Odlums Flour from Ireland and displayed throughout the shop. Ordering was quick and we enjoyed live Irish music while we waited. The scones are served warm in a open box and is a mix of a traditional scone and biscuit. The blackberry jam is slightly tart but complements the butter. The entire process from arrival to leaving was about 40 minutes, but well worth it. They definitely live up to the hype.

I'm very torn on how to rate Mary O's. They say that they make scones and I don't like scones so if they're scones, I'll give it 4 stars. However, to me, this was closer to biscuit. It was verrry buttery and all you can smell is butter upon arrival. So if it's biscuits, I'll give it 3 stars. It does come out piping hot and they put jam on it. But it's not really worth the $7 and almost hour long wait. We arrived around 10:30-11am and there was no line out the door but there were a lot of people standing around a line as if they were lined up to order. But it's cause the shop is tiny and narrow so there's nowhere to really wait around. So definitely ask if people are in line. The was no line to order but after ordering, i realized why. They make the scones in batches so depending on when you arrive in the batch, you could be waiting a lonnnng time or a short time. When I ordered, they started calling names and the shop cleared out quickly. However, i stopped hearing names being called for about half an hour or so. It took me about 45 mins for my order.

Wow. Irish soda bread and a scone? Pinch me. So delicious. It was beyond buttery and so tasty. Only regret is that we got one. I liked drizzling honey on mine. Nice staff. 30 min line but so worth it

Cookie crawl pitstop! The irish soda bread is soft and fluffy. Very buttery but light at the same time. Perfect by itself but also good with jam and butter

Straight outta the oven!

The Irish Soda Bread scones are so good here that they make you want to slap the other scone bakers in New Yawk! My order was worth the 15-minute wait because it was served fresh out of the oven and piping hot! Mine came "fully dressed"--Mary O's lingo for a freshly baked scone topped with homemade blackberry jam and Irish butter. The scone had good texture and was not overly sweet. It was perfect in every way. Be prepared to stand on the long line out the door or to sit on the small bench outside. Terence was my server around 9:15 am on 3/1/26.

I don't normally like scones because they're so dry. I can't say that about Mary O's. This was hands down the best scone I've had. It was buttery, perfectly flakey, and the raspberry jam in the scone complimented it perfectly. The Irish butter was excellent. This scone was incredibly moist. I almost forgot it was a scone, and not a moist muffin. The only downside I can think of is the wait, it's brutal. I waited about 1 hour and a half. Thank god I was catching up with a friend. Overall, I would highly recommend Mary O's Irish Soda Bread.

As a person who loves scones, I've bookmarked Mary O's since I saw it on IG almost a year ago. We all know that not all viral spots are as amazing as the influencers claim they are. Fortunately, this is indeed as amazing as they say. Dare I say, the most perfect scone I have ever had! They're baked in a muffin tin so you have the 360 crisp exterior with the airy interior. Absolute perfection on its own without the butter and jam btw. But of course a whole other level when it's dressed. I got mine to go with butter & jam on the side. Popped it in the oven for a few minutes before eating. The jam was simply perfect. Just the right amount of sweetness and not sugary like most jams are. It could be bottled up and sold! Seriously worth the hype and am def returning. Note: I'd say go as early to opening as possible. I was there at almost 11 AM. While ordering was quick, the wait time was quite long. I was there for almost 30 mins. They were sold out by noon.

Mary O's 93 1/2 E. 7th. St. New York, NY 10009 Hot Mulled Apple Cider Irish Soda Bread Scone Located in the East Village is a locally owned Irish bakery. When I saw a long line, I knew I had to give Mary O's a try. These are a couple of the continental breakfast items I explored. Hot Mulled Apple Cider: This warm beverage is made with cinnamon and orange zest. I was reluctant to explore this drink because I usually have chilled cider. As soon as I took a sip, I was pleasantly surprised how tasty it was. Irish Soda Bread Scone: This scone is served with Irish butter and homemade blackberry jam. It was slightly crisp on the outside soft and fluffy on the inside. It is basically bread, but it is unbelievably superior and I see why this menu item has gone viral. As a bonus, there is a mini Irish Market where customers can purchase groceries that are imported from Ireland. As another bonus, a guitarist performs every Sunday. The seating is limited to a couple tables, a window ledge and an outdoor bench, but there are plenty of benches only footsteps away at Tompkins Square Park. The bakery is only open Thursday through Sunday, so please plan accordingly. This bakery may be a hole in the wall, but I can guarantee the viral scones will be satisfying to all. #maryos #irishbakery #sodabreadshop #maryosirishsodabreadshop #scones #irishsodabreadscone #hotmulledapplecider #applecider #eastvillagenyc

Best scones ever, showed up at open and there was already a semi-line. DO NOT GO ON WEEKENDS! There is always a huge line down the block. We go on weekdays nice and early. There's a few tables so if you want to sit and enjoy get there early, the staff is very chill and courteous unlike other popular spots in the area. The scones are some of the best I've had outside of Devon, the best in the US IMO. They are not stingy with the jam and the scone doesn't fall apart when you bite into it. Will continue to frequen this place as long as they're around. Please check it out if you're a scone junkie or even if you aren't.

I came here just for the viral scone with jam. I arrived around 8 and not crowded at all. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. I saw that they know their regular clients and very engaging with them. The scone looks like a biscuit. It's round with a split in the middle for the jam and Irish butter. It is moist but has nice crisp on the outside. The jam is homemade. It has a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness. This store also sells some Irish products too.

I've attempted to come to Mary O's multiple times only to find them sold out. This time around I committed to coming early to avoid disappointment and finally got a scone. Their hours are Thursday - Sunday, 7AM until sold out. On this particular Thursday they were sold out right at noon, so I'd advise not making the trek if you can't get there before noon. Customer service was incredibly friendly, everyone working was very kind and moved efficiently. There's really only one thing on the menu so not much decision fatigue, I got it with jam & butter as intended. The scone was crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside. The jam was tart and it all came together well. Mary O's is known for having a line and I don't think it's necessarily because there's anything revolutionary about the scone, it's just a classic that's well done. Worth trying, but not necessarily worth making a laborious trek for.

Mitra T.

Don't let the line scare you, it moves fast and is so worth it. Get the scones fully loaded with jam and Irish butter and you won't go wrong. Best scone I've ever had. Chatted with the staff while waiting for my order and they are so genuine and nice. Mary has been making these for years and serving out of her pub, but only started the scone store front in November 2024. Cut little store with Irish dishes and flavors. There is not much place to sit, so grab a scone, tea or coffee and head to Tompkins park, close by, to enjoy.

I've had Ten Thousand Coffee on my to-go list for the LONGEST. I finally went for the first time…read moreand there were so many drinks I wanted to try so I ended up buying 3. 1. The Jeju Green Tangerine Matcha honestly just tastes like a tangerine selter drink but in the best way, because I don't typically enjoy seltzer or carbonated beverages. I really enjoy the flavor and the carbonation isn't too strong, probably because I brought it home to drink. I don't really taste the matcha but I would definitely still order this again. 2. Matcha Einspanner. This is my first time having an Einspanner so I have no idea what I was expecting but this is DELICIOUS. It's so silky and smooth and the TASTE is just right up my alley. The matcha is light but you can still taste it. Absolutely, would drink this all the time if I could. 3. Purple Sweet Potato Latte. This. This. Omg, why haven't I tried this sooner?! The first sip and initial taste, I almost tasted nothing, just milk. And then all of a sudden, there's an explosion of flavor in your mouth. As a sweet potato lover, I was in heaven. I have absolutely no words for this drink, just try it. 100/10 recommend. This is probably my favorite one out of the 3 that I bought. I went around ... 2:45PM on a Friday and most of the seats were taken, if I remember correctly. There were a decent amount of seats and the space was decent. I liked the minimal aesthetic they had for the design of the interior. Not to forget, the staff at the register was absolutely wonderful, she answered all my questions, she's so sweet. I think I'm disappointed that I haven't tried this place sooner. Y'all get out of your comfort zone and try the Purple Sweet Potato Latte !! Or if not, just try this place out. I will definitely be recommending the Purple Sweet Potato Latte to all my family and friends.

I ordered an iced matcha einspanner ($6.95) with oat milk ($0.75) and loved that it already comes with a shot of espresso, so it was essentially a dirty matcha einspanner. I tried each layer on its own before mixing everything together and it was all really good. The matcha cream is the right amount of sweet and creamy and you can taste the matcha with just a hint of coffee. Since I'm a coffee fiend I added a bit more espresso when I got back to the hotel and it tasted even better while still keeping the matcha as the dominant flavor. Next time I would ask for less ice since it was freezing that morning, but on a warmer day the ice level would be perfect. Would love to come back to try their other drinks or order the einspanner again as a hot drink.

There is some counter space, but mainly for standing purposes. I ordered a standard Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk ($7.35) and my friend got her usual Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte ($8). Docking 1/2 point bc the matcha is pre-made. I'm a fan of the whisking process bc I do believe there's a craft to matcha overall. Surprisingly, my drink tasted fine and my bev was a good color, so I was pleasantly happy. We waited less than 10 min for a table to open up, but you have to be there at the right time, otherwise you prob just grab your drink + go. Overall, glad I tried Kijitora. It's not my first matcha choice, but it was decent for a standard matcha latte. Their specialty matcha drinks look to have mixed reviews, but I'm personally not a fan of sweet drinks.

The tote bags were so cute but they were kind of pricey in my opinion. A standard beige Kijitora bag was priced for $30 each! They had several designs for sale. I was just busy checking out the cool cat merchandise while I was waiting in the long line to purchase the matcha drinks. The line was exceptionally long! It was worth the hype though! When I was my turn, I got an iced strawberry matcha latte and an iced mango matcha latte. It was so pretty when I got them. The mango and strawberry paste were sitting at the bottom of the matcha latte. I had to stir and mix the fruits with the whole drink. Surprisingly it was not sweet at all and was just right! They made it in a way that wanted you to crave more of it. It was very addicting. I did not get onigiris this time but will be sure to get some next time I'm here. They were just $4 each for miso salmon, tuna mayo, mentaiko cod roe, sukiyaki beef, and chashu pork. What a decent price for one onigiri! I would definitely be sure to get the miso salmon next time I'm here. The place was very cute with nice little tables for individuals. The place was very cozy with lots of sunlight coming in. Very modern with plants all around. It was so loud with people talking over each other. There were too many people on a Sunday afternoon so I had to walk around or cut through people to get my way. It was that crowded. I also didn't expect this place to be on the second floor and the stairs to be that steep. It was hectic carrying my stroller upstairs. Luckily someone helped me get down! The stairs are very narrow so I had to hold onto the rail. It was not ergonomically friendly at all.

I probably never leave reviews in general, especially negative ones, but this experience was so…read moreegregious that I honestly felt like I had to say something. I've worked in restaurants and bars long enough to understand that staff drinking happens, but this was on another level entirely. I came in with a group of friends and one of the bartenders, Will, was so visibly drunk that it made the entire experience uncomfortable. Slurred speech, wobbling behind the bar, taking orders while chewing food with his mouth open -- it was honestly embarrassing to watch. He looked like he absolutely did not want to be there. At one point, my group had been trying to get his attention for another round for quite a while while he stood around talking with coworkers. We then watched staff take a shot together, and when he finally came over he burped mid-conversation and literally had whatever he had just been drinking dribbling down his neckbeard. That was the moment where the whole thing went from unprofessional to just gross. What made it worse was that it didn't seem isolated to one employee. Throughout the night we watched staff openly taking shots and drinking behind the bar like it was a house party instead of a business. There's a difference between bar culture and complete lack of professionalism, and this crossed that line hard. One of the friends I was with actually frequents the DUMBO location and said that the last time she was there, the same bartender also seemed intoxicated, which makes this feel less like a bad night and more like an ongoing issue. The DUMBO location itself is in an amazing spot, which makes it even more disappointing. But ownership seriously needs to get control of what's going on there before someone gets hurt or the place develops a reputation for having drunk staff on the clock. Unfortunately, the experience was uncomfortable enough that my girlfriends and I won't be coming back. I genuinely hope the employee mentioned gets help if this is a regular thing, because nobody should be working service in that condition.
