Thank goodness to VET for saving the day and then some. My dog was shaking and had a big loss of appetite. We were taken in right away and the staff ran their tests. Turns out she had a fever and a urinary issue. They took blood work, xrays and gave her antibiotics. The staff was amazing, explaining everything they were about to do and why. They give you a high estimate of what everything will cost and break each pricing plan down. I did not feel rushed and when I asked questions they explained everything with detail and were so patient. We were out within an hour and a half and my dog was back to 100% about a week later. Grateful they were able to take me day of, but my issue was never resolved. I was originally told the vet can take my dog right away, but I ended up waiting 2 hours. Okay. NBD. This visit happened two weeks ago. I came in because my dog has a tapeworm. We now find out today, after seeing another vet, the medicine my dog was given was not for a tapeworm. So now my dog who has been in 'quarantine' for the last two weeks because he keeps shedding live tape worms (we have a crawling infant) will have to be in 'quarantine' even longer because the wrong medicine we were given obviously did not work. When we realized the issue was not getting better, we called back and the person we spoke to was not helpful at all. Will not visit this place again due to lack of education and unable to be helpful via phone. read more

To provide a brief overview, I was dealing with an issue with my pet insurance company and needed to see if I could have VEG fill out some papers for me. I called and initially spoke with someone on June 28th and discussed the issue I was having with my insurance company for a claim for emergency services performed in the office. I was told me to send an email with all of the information and it would forwarded to the medical director for review, and I was told that I would hear back from the office soon. Unfortunately, that was not the case. In the following days and weeks, I made multiple calls seeking updates and resolutions, and I was always assured that I would receive a callback. However, to my dismay, I never received any response. Feeling frustrated, I resorted I sent another email on Friday, 7/28 after one month of numerous attempts to speak to someone who could assist me with my issue. My intention is not to undermine the quality of service and care that my dog received when we visited your office. On the contrary, I was genuinely satisfied with the attention and care provided during our visit. However, the manner in which my issue with my insurance company has been ignored by the medical director of the office has been deeply disappointing and disheartening. As a customer, I believe it is reasonable to expect the courtesy of a return call or email when seeking assistance, regardless of the outcome of the issue at hand. The lack of communication and disregard for my concerns have left me feeling unheard and neglected as a client. In light of this experience, I feel compelled to share my feedback and review with others to ensure they are aware of the potential challenges they might face if they encounter issues that require resolution. I took my 10 year old dog to VEG on Saturday morning 7-20-2024 due to vomiting/diarrhea, she was dehydrated and developed gastroenteritis due to anxiety from severe thunderstorms. (yes, that's a real thing) From the moment I arrived, the team took her in and evaluated her immediately, Dr. France and Brian were wonderful and got her back on the road to good health-I am still monitoring her at home, she is thankfully doing much better. read more

on Saturday I took my rescue greyhound to VEG. She was 11 years old. I wanted to know why she was vomiting and not eating and had blood in her urine. They were very nice but I have to say that they put us through ALOT. First of all if they suspected she had cancer; why not test for that FIRST. What they did was administer IV after IV telling me she was dehydrated and then more IV with antibiotics and then more IV. WE spent the night there thinking all of this medicine was going to cure her. But no the next day after MORE IV and 6 more hours and my girl lying there just being a good girl. THEN they gave the sonogram showing my angel HAD CANCER. My issue is that why they did NOT give her this very important FIRST. So that we would have known there is nothing more they can do for her and it would be end of life for her. NOT putting all these meds in her for her only to die the next day. It was emotionally and physically DRAINING for us both. She went to the rainbow bridge 2 hours after getting the sonogram. I feel like they wanted to get the invoice as high as possible giving me hopes she was going to be OK, thats what they said, but now she is gone. The fee for these two days was $7,000.00 to have a dead dog. DO BETTER, it is not right what you do to the owner and the dog. read more

I could author a book on how great this place is, but I'll keep it brief. Our dogs were showing signs of kennel cough after boarding. Our vet had a three week wait! Wild. Anyways, we got there when they opened at 6:00, and it took about 10 mins for them to call us in. When we entered, there was a team (literally four folks) that jumped to gathering initial info from weight and temp, and then we went to an extraordinarily clean room. When the vet entered, she went straight to the ground to their level. The way she interacted with the pups was a master class. They were quick and efficient, and then confirmed what we were thinking. They gave us our options and the costs upfront, so we could best evaluate our treatment options. I've never felt so confident in the care our pups received, and if I ever have another emergency, this is where I will go. read more

This place feels like a total scam. They take advantage of you in most vulnerable time when you agree to anything they say your pet needs. They said he needs ultrasound but the tech who is able to read the results was not there. The vet proceeded to do it anyway to show how it's done to other techs putting my baby through unnecessary pain and charging me for it later. Make sure to cross check with estimate prices because they overcharged me for other meds saying it was a glitch. How convenient for them and messed up at the same time. I imagine most of the people are too broken to check and they use this horrible time for their financial gain. read more

I had a generally good experience at VEG Paramus, and chose it largely on reviews and staff profiles. Do I recommend VEG? Absolutely, yes. We came in at a time of night when no one else was around, so my cat was the center of attention! He has kidney disease, leaving him anemic, in need of a transfusion. They didn't have the right blood on hand, so they reached out to Oradell across the street. The transfusion worked, thank goodness. My one objection is that I told the vet I wanted a nasogastric tube inserted so he could be fed liquid nutrition overnight. Like most cats & dogs, he positively *lives* for mealtime, and those calories are absolutely vital to a sick animal. She nixed the idea, surmising it might deter him from taking food orally. Now I know to INSIST when I have a simple & pragmatic idea - it would have made a huge difference. I will say the vet, Dr. Rinelli, was a very kind, caring, and competent doctor, nonetheless. VEG Paramus on the whole is staffed by skilled professionals. I will also say that animal owners always need to do their homework, familiarize themselves with their furperson's condition, and be prepared to advocate for your animal if you truly believe a certain treatment would make a difference. Truthfully, my furry fella was so withdrawn when I got him back after the transfusion, I was contemplating euthanasia, which generally I oppose in favor of hospice. But when I got him home and started feeding him chicken liver, by golly, did he come back to life! Nutrition is key! Just ask Garfield (the cartoon chowhound kitty). I also wasn't entirely thrilled with the expense of the visit, about $3000. Yes, my little guy has blessed me with all 17 years of his beautiful life, and I'm grateful I can afford obscene bills like this one to repay the favor. But it bothers me greatly that the average moggy cannot benefit from the phenomenal things vets can now do. All pets deserve all the love & good care in the world, and all people whose hearts have been stolen by their animals deserve to see those animals happy & pain-free until their very last breath - without having to raid Fort Knox! Final note: I don't trust 5-star or 1-star reviews. The 5-star reviews here are all so over-caffeinated, I can't help but be suspicious that they might all have been paid for. I can't stop raving about not only the quality of care I received for my dog but the overall thoughtfulness, friendliness, and empathy from everyone here. They certainly were very patient with me and made me feel comforted in my state of pet parent emergency nervousness. Brought my little multipoo, since she was yelping when I would touch or pick her up, completely misdiagnosed her, said it was her stomach when in fact she has hurt her leg, did not even check her limbs, sent me home with some food and pain pills, gave her fluids for dehydration, which it was not necessary, they charge me $500 and now I have to take her to another vet. I really had a bad experience in the Paramus Clinic. I took my cat to the emergency vet last Sunday because she was not acting normal, she was hiding and I noticed she was not eating well and was very lethargic. I could have waited until the next day but I had to work and I didnt want my cat to be sick until next Saturday when I was off again. Well, I paid $175 for the check up and then the doctor gave me an estimate of $1,400 for blood work and xrays! I told her that I just wanted something that can help her in the short term because I was going to take her to her regular vet for a check up. She insisted that she had to do blood work on her because she could not treat something that she doesn't know what it it. ok. Fine. It made sense. I accepted to do the bloodwork not the xrays. Then she told me the white cells count was very high and that shows that she is fighting a strong infection but she still didnt know what it is. She insisted in xrays and I said no, I would take my cat to her regular vet. My cat was given fluids and sent home on antibiotics. Everything looks ok. 3 days later my cat was even worst! :( she didnt want to eat or drink at all, the antibiotics were making her sicker. She vomited and was in a really terrible shape. I decided to take a day off and take her to the vet. To my surprise, the vet did a physical exam on her and IMMEDIATELY noticed a big mass on her stomach, he said it was the size of an egg. He told me it was a tumor and it was so big that can not be removed. He also said my baby was so weak that it was better to put her to sleep but it was up to me. Now, I ask myself, why didn't the vet at the Paramus clinic notice the big mass on her stomach? Why I was asked to do a bunch of exams and paid a lot of money and she couldn't tell me straight forward what happened!!?? I am very sure she noticed the tumor on my cat's belly and still she couldn't tell me... Why was my cat send home with antibiotics?? The regular vet said antibiotics were not needed and made her feel sick. My cat was in pain the last days of her life and that make me feel sad, frustrated, and upset! I really feel that the only thing this clinic wanted was that I pay for exams and xrays and get all the money from me. At this point I dont even believe that everything that was done to my cat was really necessary. The worst part (again) was that she was sent home on CLAVAMOX which is a strong antibiotic used for the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections in dogs and cats, for periodontal infections in dogs, and for urinary tract infections in cats :( I regret I didnt do my research, I regret I didnt call her vet sooner waiting to see if the antibiotics worked, I regret taking her to VEG Paramus, this was a horrible experience. I ended up putting her to sleep last Friday. I feel horrible. She deserved better. read more

There may be good, reputable vets working here but none of them were on duty on 7/2/23. Brought our 5 yo mixed breed in with diarrhea so these crooks recommended every test they could think of, including a chest xray (who takes a chest xray for diarrhea) for a total of $2,000. The kicker is they weren't even able to diagnose any issue. The next day we went to a REAL vet and he was able to diagnose and provide medication to start our pup's healing process for a little over $200. Be very cautious when dealing with these thieves. read more

It's Christmas evening and a friend stops by to bring me some dessert. My cat Buddy comes out from hiding under the bed to say hello and he's rubbing against my friend's shoes and he goes under the coffee table and lets out a sound that I'll never forget. He was howling and when I went to pick him up, he was crying and wailing and I realized he was in some form of distress. He was licking his tush and I thought that he had some poop that was stuck. When I went to check and touched his backside there was no need to look. He was in horrendous pain. I immediately phoned my Vet and of course they were closed. It's Christmas. They recommend Veterinary' Emergency Group on RT17 South in Paramus. I got his crate and he didn't fight me and got right into it. I drove as fast as I could and I'm from Teaneck so it didn't take long but I arrived and called. I'm here. They got Buddy and I spoke to the front office to arrange payment and as I waited in the car, I thought for sure he'd be coming home with me. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. Turns out he had a Urinary Obstruction which was VERY serious. I just lost it! Within minutes I got a call from the Vet explaining what needed to be done and not to worry. He's in good hands and your quick response most likely had saved his life. With his bladder full, the toxins and bacteria would have entered the bloodstream and he would have become septic and.... I can't even write down the word. The office called back to explain how the payment situation worked. I would pay the max amount but they had a high and low amount and I didn't care high or low. I just wanted him to get better. Before I got home he had been sedated and his bladder was drained and he was on pain meds and was given antibiotics and hydration. Buddy stayed with them until Monday morning at 7:30 am. Having been the Christmas holiday and their hours of operation, there was an angel watching us. Like a lot of ER Vets, they open in the evening and close in the morning, at that time you pick up your pet. Thank God it was a weekend and they are open all weekend long. He stayed 2 nights and they kept me informed and said I could call, 24/7. I picked him up on Monday morning at 7:30am. I was so happy to see him and he was alert and trying to get his little nose out so I could pet him. He came home with a cone on his head and surgical tape on his shaven legs. He was so happy to be home but ran under the bed. Not unusual at all. With all that said and done, I received a message from Dr. Sanders stating that the hospital VEG, was returning over $1,500 dollars to my credit card. WOW! When did you ever hear that? I know I never had. Not only did they save his life, they saved me too. I was beside myself thinking he may have been put down. He's only 4 years old. The Dr said at this time we weren't close to that and his voice was so soothing and reassuring and I'D GIVE THEM A THOUSAND STARS If I could. I hope no pets ever need Emergency Care but if you do, Veterinary Emergency Group is my first and only choice. And it being Xmas night, it's clearly a Christmas miracle. As of today, 1/16/21, he's doing really well but I still haven't completely relaxed checking that he peed and pooped and my normal Vet, told me to relax and enjoy. He's playful and his catitude is back with a vengeance . I know that most people have their own experiences and some are good and some are not but rest assured, I feel that you can truly trust the hands of the Dr and the vet techs you place your pet with!!!!! We had to bring one of our French bulldogs here during COVID due to an emergency. They were so friendly and we got to go in the room with her. They did everything in front of us. But she needed an ultrasound and that was going to be done at night by a traveling doctor. She had to stay overnight on a weekend. We had already paid for some tests. They needed us to pay before we left but because our bank card had a daily limit and it kept getting declined and our bank's customer service was closed, they said it was ok for us to pay the next day. She ended up staying two nights, Friday and Saturday. This location isn't open for overnights Sunday - Thursday. So if she needed further care, we would have to bring her to probably the Clifton location. She came home Sunday night all healed and they didn't require us to pay until we left. I recommend this location for all your emergency needs. Our normal emergency hospital was on divert because they had limited doctors available due to COVID infections. read more

There not enough good I can say about this facility. The staff are so kind, knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help. Some offices I've visited in the past have made me feel unwelcome but not here! And they're super efficient and quick. My cat and I were taken in right away after a quick phone call. Dr. Dillionaire explained everything I needed to know, pre and post op. Cassie and Shirley were also very helpful. Hopefully I don't need to come back for a pet emergency, but if I do, I will 100% be back here. My English bulldog (10 y/o) almost died with pneumonia from vomiting and I was told my choices were to go to blue pearl or VEG. I have never read or heard anything positive about blue pearl so I went straight to VEG. Dr Noell was incredible, her staff is just amazing as well. My cat was sneezing, coughing and out of breath. I called the hospital and was told to bring my cat right away. I checked in online and when she got there, she was taken in right away. Dr. Stitzel called me and explained her condition and her treatment plan to my husband and me. In a little over an hour, she was back home and already looking better. took my dog here to get treatment for a bad ear infection the coast was $550 no blood work they did not take him to back. the put some medicine in his ear. they said guaranteed to work , no bathing or doing anything for 30 days and I don't have to do anything for 30 days. I called them up to tell them that my dog still has an ear infection. I have not done anything to the ear like they said, I have not Bathed my dog because they said don't. 30 days, my dog ear is still so inflamed I called them...they told me pay another $550 or more. to be seen or take him to my doctor. Hands down best emergency clinic! I would refer this place over Oradell. Had an emergency with my dog.. Oradell was a 6 hour wait. Found this place and Thank God I did. I was greeted at the door and they took such amazing care of my lil fur baby. NO WAITING!!! It's an open space so you can be with your pet. They even put him in a suite room so he wasn't crated. Thanks to Dr. Stitzel and the amazing crew, My Buster boy got the care he needed. They go over pricing before doing any testing. I will never go to any other hospital but VEG. I can't even express how amazing and compassionate the staff here is. We have been here before, but 2 weeks ago our 3 year old cat collapsed suddenly We rushed her to VEG and they worked on her for almost 40 minutes. Unfortunately, they were unable to get a pulse, due to the underlying cardiovascular issue our girl had. The team at VEG did not give up on her, they did not leave our sides, they brought us water and tissues and even helped with pricing for our girls cremation. Tonight we received her ashes and they gave us eveRy thing- a beautiful urn with the ashes, her paw print in cement, grieving pamphlets and so much more. They made this extremely difficult time a tad better by all of their compassion and love. If I could rate this place 100 out of 10 I would! thank you VEG! read more

My dog spent most of the last weekend at the VEG for a procedure to remove something potentially dangerous that she ingested. The start of the relationship seemed solid as the staff were friendly and understanding. My dog was supposed to have her procedure at lunchtime and got bumped from that time slot (based on a more critical case) which my family and I understood- our dog's situation didn't seem imminent. The dog was happy and acting very normal. The procedure ended up taking place 12 hours later, and we were relieved to get the phone call that it was a success. We were also informed that the dog would be spending the following day at VEG for monitoring which we thought was an excellent idea to have the dog with the people that could help her best. The plan was to pick up the dog the following morning early in the morning as the VEG office closed at 8am. We went to bed the night before excited to have our dog rejoining us in short order. We set our alarms to be prompt and while getting ready received a phone call from the doctor informing us that the dog was having difficulty breathing and that there was air around the dog's heart which needed to be rectified. The doctor informed us she felt the dog had a tear in her esophagus which was probably the result of the object which she swallowed. Furthermore their offices were closing and we needed to find somewhere new to put the dog for medical care as they were closing at 8am. The places in closest proximity were at capacity, so VEG gave us the options of Tinton Falls(over an hour drive) or their NYC office(an hour drive). We were also given the option to either have them transport the dog or we could do it (we chose to transport the dog because we wanted to see with our own eyes what we were up against). We picked up the dog (at 7am) and odd to us, the doctor didn't bother to come out and talk with us. Instead she had staff members make the handoff. While I was in transit to pick the dog up, my hysterical wife pleaded with a reputable area animal hospital to please admit my dog as we all were extremely upset and the dog's situation was critical. Fortunate for us, the reputable area animal hospital chose to be compassionate to us and agreed to admit our dog. Once admitted the new animal hospital quickly determined that the dog didn't have a tear of the esophagus, but instead a tear of the trachea. The trachea is the windpipe and has nothing to do with the movement of food or swallowed object. The harsh reality is the trachea tear occurred during the intubation of the dog. I've spent too many hours looking into this today and it's extremely rare, and not something that is supposed to happen. The dog also has air around her lungs and is critical. At some point in the next day the dog will need her lung tapped to remove that air. The new provider basically informed us that waiting is the correct action as we want to avoid another surgical procedure for the dog's safety. As for us, there is some prayer going on, but the lesson we've learned is do your homework. Go with the long standing reputable provider. I have a lot of regret in this and wish I had. Beyond the emotional and mentally duress---you may end saving yourself quite a bit of money in doing your homework. Our total out of pocket will be double what started expensive as a byproduct of the intubation process at VEG. My dog is presently in the care of the other animal hospital and will be there for a minimum of 4 days(assuming all goes well). The hope is that trachea damage can heal on its own as they are unsure the dog is up for another surgery. What has been refreshing is the level of communication with the new provider. They haven't just showed us compassion prior to us spending thousands of dollars- they've continued the process after as well. It's currently 10:32pm and I got a call from the new Doctor 10 minutes ago because she wanted to let us know current status before she went home. On the other side of the aisle, VEG reopened today at 6pm and didn't call to check in with us. They've made their money and didn't think it the right move to check in on the dog they returned to us in critical condition. In short meeting the people at VEG have caused my family a lot of tears and we aren't out the woods. I will not go back and suggest you do the same. I am filled with regret for not doing my homework. In my past, I've always taken care to choose providers for my loved ones that were clear leaders in what they did and had the experience to back it up. I am trying to be optimistic, but my mind also wanders to what if's. I can tell you I will be riddled with guilt for having not done more homework and not placing my dog in the care of a proven, long standing animal hospital. If you are looking for a great dinner, I wouldn't go to a fast food restaurant. VEG is the fast food dining in the animal health care space. read more

Excellent experience. I can't say enough about how professional and wonderful VEG is. Everyone from the technicians and doctor was amazing explaining my dogs needs and they were patient answering all of my questions. I highly recommend VEG and I am so grateful they are located in Paramus. read more
