My pet Ferret Oliver suffers from Insulinoma and is on Prednisolone twice a day. The only type of Prednisolone I can get at the local pharmacy is a very bitter cherry flavor that Oliver cannot stand at all. He actually locks his jaw and it's a horrible process to syringe the liquid syrup into his mouth each time. However, without the medicine he will die. A friend mentioned switching the prescription over to Valley Drug & Compounding. They provide customized compounding with different flavoring that Oliver would like better. Although they are in Encino, they can ship the medicine. She's used them for a while and was very happy with their service. I had my Vet transfer the prescription over to Valley Drug & Compounding. They quickly called me as soon as they received the prescription order. I told them my situation and based on their experience they suggested the best alternative flavoring. Liver flavor... hahah can you imagine? Well he is a Ferret. For only $5 they shipped the medicine and I actually received it the next day. I was so excited to try it, and sure enough Oliver took the medicine without even a flinch!! He was like, hey that was tasty, and I want more hahaha... Valley Drug & Compounding provides excellent service, with highly trained staff available to answer any question and are sincere with wanting to help. Quick turnaround, they filled the order and had it shipped so I was able to receive it the next day. Price, well I am paying a little more for the medicine, but it is a custom order. My pets are like family to me, and I will do anything to make them comfortable. Overall, I am very pleased with Valley Drug & Compounding and plan to refill with them again. I agree. Ridiculously nice and patient. Crazy pet owners (unlike me) must drive them crazy but you'd never know it. They've called both times before filling a script and explain how the medications work, flavors it comes in, what most animals like, how long it lasts, etc., etc. I wish my ridiculously UNhelpful mail order pharmacy with Aetna was one 10th this helpful. Thanks guys! Why not the 5th star? They don't take Amex which I didn't know until I got there. I don't think the medication lasted as long as it should have with the last prescription. But in all honesty I didn't call them to tell them about it because toward the end it didn't look like it was going to help anyway. read more

Overpriced!! Uncaring. They tried to charge me to replace a faulty cap on a very expensive pet medicine that leaked and caused me to lose 1/4 of the bottle. I have found another pharmacy nearby that makes the same meds at a third less! They are money hungry and charge almost double for the same meds you can get elsewhere! Do not go there!!! read more

VDC was fabulous when Irv was there. Since it was sold, many aspects of the service have gone downhill. The people aren't as friendly and service oriented as they used to be. They are not very accommodating. The dosage was not accurate a couple of times. They said my prescription would be ready at a certain time. I drove all the way out there and it wasn't ready. My vet prescribed some meds for my cat, but I still had some questions about the prescription. The vet asked if I wanted the pharmacist to call me. I said, "yes please." The gent who called me from Valley Drug was ridiculously nice and helpful. He didn't rush me at all or even hint at being perturbed by my n00b questions. When I went to pick up the scrip, it was all ready to go and they had an icepack ready so the meds wouldn't go sour on the drive home! They also included an easy syringe-filler top available to me, to make my job as cat-medicator easier. In addition, when I showed up, they had a basket of nickels at the front desk that you could dip into if you needed change for the parking meters outside. Wow! That's awesome! To top it all off, my cat frickin' LOOOOOVES his fishy-tasting medicine. Just an amazing experience all-around. I wish I lived closer because they are a perfect neighborhood go-to pharmacy and I would shun all others in favor of them. Top notch! read more

This place is great. I am so happy I found them! They are very attentive, helpful, and best of all, their prices have been the most reasonable I've found. I used to take my prescriptions to a compounding pharmacy on the Westside (you can see my review, if interested) and I thought they were fine until I transferred my prescription here. They're right down the street from my work and that's a lot more convenient than truckin' across town to the Westside! The transfer process was easy...I just called them up, gave them my name, my cat's name (that's who the prescription was for), and what kind of medication it was. They took care of the rest and the medication was ready the very next day after 2pm. Talk about convenient! I didn't have to pay in advance like the other pharmacy and plus, they were 80% CHEAPER. Can't beat that! The pharmacist was very friendly too and he even gave me suggestions on how I can flavor the medication so my cat would have an easier time taking it. I didn't get that much attention at my old pharmacy! Even living in Hollywood, I wouldn't mind coming here for my compounding needs. read more

My pug has epilepsy and Valley Drug is a monthly call for me. The people who work there are all very nice, professional, and knowledgable about the products. They ship for a small fee, which saves me a trip out to Encino. The shipping company that they use lagged on our overnight delivery once and Valley Drug did what they could to track down the shipment and offered to give us a few pills to hold us over until it arrived. (My bad for waiting till the last minute to order the pills though.) I've been burned by trying to get a good deal at another place (Yelp Pet Pharmacy, Los Angeles) that is totally shady. They knowingly messed up my dog's meds, which resulted in a cluster of seizures and a big vet bill. From now on I'll be smart and stick with Valley Drug because I know they're legit and trustworthy. read more

This pharmacy is the best I have worked with in getting my cat's medicine, not only made but shipped overnight as I live in the Santa Clarita Valley. The vet that I use has a hard time approving simple medication that is required q30days. Every time I call, I am greeted with kindness and efficiency from the ladies that work here. To name a few who have exceeded their job responsibilities and gone above and beyond their responsibilities are Cesi, Claire and Kim. I know there have been other people who I have spoken to but every employee has helped me when I am the one frustrated with the vet. I have used this pharmacy for years. They're fantastic! They deserve a 10! A vet in the San Gabriel Valley used another compounding pharmacy for seizure meds. I was not happy with several things. I talked to my vets office and said that I wanted all of my 4 1/2 pound dogs meds done by Valley Drug and Compounding. In less than 24 hours, my dogs medication was filled and delivered into the San Bernardino mountains. The service, medication, written instructions for drawing up the medication, syringe marked to proper dose, separate cap to draw medication up and shipping are above and beyond anything I have ever gotten from another pharmacy. Valley Drug changed ownership in the last few years. I no longer can recommend them. They are not helpful at all anymore. If I need approval on a refill they can never seem to get the OK yet my vet's office said they have faxed the approval over multiple times. If I ask Valley Drug to pick up the phone & call the office, I am made to feel like it is an imposition. Everything has changed here. read more

They're quick and friendly and and don't take more than a day to fill a prescription. Only once in a while their free parking out back will be filled and you park on the street, and when you go inside, it's only employees... so I don't know if the parking is for them, but usually I can grab a spot. The prices are pretty good, I don't have insurance for my dog, but the prices here are cheaper than the other compounding places that are closer to me, so I don't mind driving the extra 10 minutes. Been going here for 3 years and never have a problem... only sleepy part is it's a pharmacy, it looks like a pharmacy, there's nothing exciting or cool about it. This pharmacy was incredibly easy to work with and exceptionally accommodating of our needs. Long story short, we had to change course with our dog's medical needs after the pharmacist had already made the medical compound (no small cost for them). Rather than insist that we are liable for the cost, he agreed to hold onto the compound at no cost to us in the event that we were able to proceed with our dog's original medical plan. The pharmacist was beyond kind, accommodating, and understanding. I would also like to add that I was nervous about the cost of a custom pet medication but the final total was much less than I was anticipating. This is definitely the place to go for any medication needs, especially custom orders! They can do anything, their costs are reasonable, and they are delightful to work with! read more

I picked up my cats meds - 8 little pills. She gets 1/4 per day. I asked if they could quarter them for me. "We don't do that." Really? Would that have been too much trouble to cut 8 pills for me? My vet managed to do it when they filled the Rx and I didn't even have to ask. Guess I'll get the next refills online instead of driving over here. Customer service is dead apparently. read more

Ever since I have moved to Los Angeles, this place has been reliable and communicative. They are always able to have my script for my cat ready (a special compound) in decent time and they even offer to have it overnighted to you in LA area (you will pay a little $$$) which I love so I don't have to make the drive all the way from Silver Lake to the edge of the valley...Thank goodness! This review is being written from a veterinary hospital so my experience will differ from pet owners. With that being said, all other drug suppliers are experiencing a morphine backorder right now and this was very frustrating to hear. I found numerous suppliers selling morphine in 1mL bottles but we need it in 20mL bottles. After a day of calling around to find if anyone is compounding morphine I finally got ahold of a very helpful man named Irving from Valley Drug. He was in contact with me all day to ensure that we would be recieving our 20mL bottles of morphine before a surgery that we need it for tomorrow. So thankful that these people have been so helpful with me! After Irving went on vacation I also had a pleasant experience with Evan helping me. I manage a veterinary practice in Lancaster, California and have been using Valley Drug & Compounding for years. We use them when we need to get compounded medications (that's when a medication is made to a certain strength and usually into a liquid or capsule). They also make my job so much easier when we need a medication that's been on a back order list for what feels like an eternity and I call them and it's here the next day! They always impress me with their honesty and ethics, i.e. they'll tell you not to get something if it's not a good idea, or suggest even another store to go to. They're extremely knowledgeable. They're a pleasure to talk to, and they take their time with all your questions, even if it's not directly related to what you're buying from them. The only downside is they're closed Sundays and not open 24 hrs like the big stores. But if you can, give Valley Drug your business & support the "little guy" who runs a business the way it used to & should be. read more

First mistake - going someplace for people meds that specializes in animals. But given I needed a compound and compound is in their name I didn't even think there would be any issues. And I didn't realize they specialize in animals. Unfortunately they do not take insurance for compounds - but that is somewhat common for compounding I have been told, so I will deal with filing paperwork Called to make sure they had all the ingredients - and they did -and as I came to find out later it was unusual that they actually answered the phone. After 48 hours and not being able to reach them by telephone stopped in and they hadn't made it yet. And they are charging $61.36. Called 3 other pharmacies who said they just need a few hours (always same day)- and they would charge anywhere from $39.95- $47 for the same thing - so I know I will not be going back for refills. So poor customer service, long waits and high prices - not a good combination. Maybe they are better with animal meds - but I would comparison shop before purchasing here - and not be in a hurry. read more
