Very very disappointed. My dog was sick and Dr. Fahmey suggested to try Valley Drug & Compounding since they do delivery and had the option of same day delivery... I opted in but I had to go back to Irvine so I paid extra for the same day delivery asap. The nurse from the vet clinic called them around noon and told me they will call me to tell me the times of the medication arrival. However, I had to call to find out that the drop off window time at my house would be 6-10 pm same day but no one ever called me to tell me until I called them.... I waited and waited till now 11 pm... no delivery no phone call nothing. I am very dissatisfied with this type of customer service because my dog is already not feeling well- that's one of the more important reasons why I paid extra for same day delivery! read more

I have been going to VDCrx (formerly Valley Drug) for the past year getting Vetsulin for my dog. I was paying around $65 per month. In December they told me that they switched distributors and the cost was now $150. I didn't have time to research the prices elsewhere. I called this week to get a refill and I asked about the cost, they told me it was $150. When I questioned them on why their prices were so much (when Chewy.com and Costco sell for $64) they put me on hold and told me ok they can do it for $65. When I came into pick up the medication they told me it was $70. I questioned them and they honored the $65 phone quote. I will no longer get medication from them as they are not trustworthy. I signed up to get medication delivered from Chewy.com and it was very easy. Be careful about their prices. read more

I am very impressed with this pharmacy. My cat is sick and needs thyroid medicine for the rest of her life. Valley Drugs sends me her medication every month. But last month I was beginning to wonder why it had not arrived yet, so close to the time she would be needing it.. When I called to ask about it, the pharmacist sincerely apologized and sent it overnight. He said that they would most definitely take care of the delivery fee (which is expensive when sending overnight!) As I had hoped, it was there in my mailbox the next morning. So far I have spoken to two pharmacists over the phone. They never make me feel rushed, and they are always thorough and accommodating with my questions... and there have been many! I must say these two people are incredibly patient and most importantly KIND. If I had to use one word, that would be it. (Obviously, I have used a lot more than one! Lol.) Fast and professional service! I have been using Valley Drug twice for filling my pet prescription and this pharmacy is highly regarded by my vet. The pharmacy is located in Encino between Balboa and Ventura Blvd, and parking is available on the street or at the back. I really like the service at the pharmacy. When my vet calls in the prescription, they will call me right away to confirm and notify me of the prices. They also provide very affordable shipping of $5 for first class mail or $10 for overnight. I am writing this review as a pet owner not for how this place is as a people drug store. Our cat was recently diagnosed with a severe and rapidly spreading cancer. The vet told us we would need some special medicine that was only available at a Compounding Pharmacy. They said they phoned the prescription into Valley Drug and Compounding and the drug store would be in contact with us shortly. About 10 minutes later a very nice man phoned us and told us he was the pharmacist with Valley Drug in Encino. Mind you, we live in La Verne (about 50 miles away), He said he would be happy to mix up what we needed, explained what the medicine would do, but told us because of the Christmas Holiday, and that fact that the drug had to be refrigerated, it could not ship until the following Wednesday and we would have it until Thursday. It was Saturday when this happened. :-( We asked him when he closed, he said 3:00pm. It was 1:00pm then, so we told him we would drive out to pick the medicine up. He took the time to give us directions and told us he would start to work on the drug now, so he would have it ready when we got there. Upon arriving, they people in the store were just so nice. They had all kind of pet related products and even pet related gift items. The best part is, we were prepared to pay somewhere between $100 and $200 for this medicine. We paid only $32.00 for it. We came home and gave the medicine to Pumpkin and even though she will never get better, she is showing improvement. And for that alone, we give this place 5 stars! I am still not 100% sure what a compoinding pharmacy is, but this place has to be one of the better ones! read more

I wasn't looking forward to driving alllllll the way out there on a Saturday afternoon. There was traffic, my whiney 4 year old was in the back seat asking if we were there yet. I love my dog so I really had no other choice when my dogs vet recommended this place. Was the drive out there worth it? ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY! I didn't exactly see a parking lot, but there may or may not be one in the alley behind the pharmacy. I pulled up on the street and popped in some money. The place is big in my opinion. They have a really nice assortment of new beanie babies that my daughter just loved. Luckily not too expensive lol. The gals in there were super nice and fast and I was so surprised that I waited no longer than 15 minutes. Like what? The pharmacist that was there came out to make sure I knew how to administer the insulin for my dog, I've been doing it for a bit now, but I know that he would have been more than happy to have helped me. They also have the best price on Vetsulin that I've found, which is a plus when you're driving from Glendale to Encino. The best part was getting into my car only to realize that they had put a small ice pack in with the insulin to keep it cold. Seriously, they didn't have to do that, but they did. I was dreading having to go home to put the insulin in he fridge since I needed to do some quick grocery shopping, but now that the ice pack was keeping the medication cold, I was able to go about my quick errand as I had wanted. It's little things like that that keep me supporting the small local businesses. That ice pack, no matter how small the gesture may be to some, really made my day and made a difference. I will be so glad to make this drive whenever I need to fill my dogs Vestulin from now on. read more

In addition, they contact our pet's doctor when refills are needed. And their delivery service is beyond belief. So I just drove across town to this pharmacy and the prescription was emailed to them but when I got there they said the email was not good enough for them that they need the original. So I asked the email is the exact same thing as the prescription only difference is one is on paper and the other a digital format what is it going to say differently on the paper that it doesn't say on the email? This is the place to fill your pet's prescriptions! They are friendly, efficient, and affordable. I called multiple pharmacies before coming here, most of which did not have the correct medication. The few that did were charging through the roof for it. Valley Drug was able to tell me right away that they had it and would get it ready for me to pick up within minutes. Watch out for these guys. Great service at first. But that's how they rope you in! I've been getting a prescription filled here for months. $63 a month. Now suddenly they're saying they can only fill for 2 weeks at a time. This is inconvenient, but ok. Then I find out they're charging $53 for 2 weeks?? So half the meds for almost the same price? Not cool. I spoke to the pharmacist and he basically just told me to take it or leave it. :( read more

I've gotten our cat's thyroid medication filled here several times. The location is pretty inconvenient for us but they do ship and we hadn't had an issue...until this week. I called and spoke with someone on Monday and asked how long it would take to ship it regular mail. I was told they could ship it that day and it would take 2-3 business days. We had 4 days of meds remaining so I thought we would be safe with the pharmacy staff's assurance. The meds didn't arrive Thursday. I thought, okay, they will probably come in the mail tomorrow. I got home late on Friday, after they were already closed, to find that the meds still had not arrived. I left a voicemail asking for confirmation that the prescription had, in fact, been shipped, hoping it was still on the way. I received a call almost two hours after they had opened telling me that not only had it not been shipped, IT HAD NOT EVEN BEEN FILLED. This is completely unacceptable. I was told the best they could do would be to ship it overnight on Monday. So then our cat would have been without her meds for 4 days. Now we have to rearrange our entire schedule to drive out to the Valley to pick up the meds that were supposed to have already arrived two days ago. I can't trust this pharmacy with our prescriptions. We're taking our business elsewhere. read more

ZERO STARS. This place is DISGUSTING and unprofessional. The hold times on the phone are long as well. My vet ordered an antibiotic for my sick hamster. I don't live in the valley and asked if it could be delivered to the Fairfax area of LA and they said yes. My hamster had her first dose at the vet and was I depending on the second dose the next day, which was the day of theIr delivery. I was told the deliveries were made between 5p and 9p and I was fine with that. No one called or showed up with the medication last night. It's now Wednesday and no one even calls to apologize or explain what happened. I'm not saying it would have saved my hamsters life but it would have been nice if she could have had the medication in her over night so that maybe she could have begun to heal. Today she's worsened and now has to be put to sleep. I don't know if this is the only game in town that compounds hamster medicine, but I sure as hell wouldn't rely on them for delivery. UNPROFESSIONAL. Update : I received a phone call from Claire, who tried to give all lies and excuses as to why the medication didn't show up. She stated they called me and there was ZERO calls-trust me, I was waiting by the phone from 5-9 to hear from SOMEONE as I was desperate for the hamster medication. Then she proceeds to tell that my card has been charged and the medication is coming tonight. TOO LATE, the hamster is gone now. read more

This place needs to train their employees to keep careful notes on patient calls. I had to call and recall four times with four mistakes by whomever took the calls. They phone intake people do not keep clear records of calls... Repeatedly! We needed medication refilled desperately and the whole thing was very very stressful. However, I have the fortune of being able to get this service from Valley Drug & Compounding, a company that is professional, courteous, responsive, expedient and caring. The small touches of dog toys and little cards that they include in the packages are not necessary, but greatly welcomed. I mean, they don't just do a good job, they do it with heart and joy. Wow.
