Despite the snow and cold weather over the past several days, my friend and I decided to make the drive to try the Vault Restaurant on a recommendation, and I'm glad we did. Situated in a very walk-able and cute-looking street lined with little shops, I felt the restaurant was a good mix of quirky and casual upon walking in. We were there for lunch (a little early) and was given a choice of where to sit. We eventually settled beside one of the cozy fires. Our waitress came and forewarned us of dishes that were unavailable (post-holidays) but thankfully it wasn't any dishes I had wanted to try. Phew! Decided to try the Salmon Salad and was thoroughly impressed. I usually find salmon can be hit and miss, some places have the salmon turning out quite dry. This was not the case: the fish was piping hot, fresh, and not dry in the slightest. Loved the salad that included cranberries and apple slices, a great combo with the greens. It was so delicious I was the first one to finish my dish, and that is quite a feat! The place was soon buzzing with more people but not overly busy, something I am attributing to the fact it is the week in between Christmas and New Years'. Overall the restaurant is more than worth the drive. Next stop: trying more of their lunch dishes and coming back for dinner. read more

I had the seafood pasta from here and it was good, but not amazing. The seafood itself is extremely fresh, which I loved, however the sauce was a bit on the plain side for me. I think this place is great if you want pasta that isn't super rich or creamy! My boyfriend and I also tried the apple crumble. It was delicious!!! I highly recommend this place if you want homemade fresh apple crumble. The apples are sour though, so be prepared! read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience this evening. Dine Out Vancouver menu was excellent. The Crab fish cakes were delicious! We enjoyed the house favourites Short Ribs and Steelhead salmon. For dessert we tried the new Sticky Toffee Pudding which was delightful! Our server Jamie was fun and personable and professional! We joked and laughed and had a lovely evening! Impressive for Cloverdale. I wasn't 'wowed' but wasn't disappointed either. The quality and portion of the dishes were good and seemingly, priced right. I liked that the servers had a uniform dress code and were both knowledgeable and pleasant. I think what threw me off the most is that the desserts were not made in house and arrived at the restaurant in a box. rare to pop by in this neighbourhood, hey, i'm expanding my horizons lol Almost like a cool yaletown brewery, high ceilings, & tastefully decorated throughout. Kinda surprised by how many ppl come here for lunch, not much office buildings here. Order the BLT, lots of bacon, a good 6 strips or so, even w. some pepper seasoning but the highlight were the yam fries & its amazing garlic mayo that came w/ it--i could have licked this inside out! But these were the most lovely, crispy, yet soft inside yam fries ever--plus their special seasoning, a bit salt, & a bit rosemary! first time ever seen this...highly recommended. Our first New Years eve dine out experience post-Covid. The Vault and WAG were always our go to in the past. Went to the Vault last night and it did not disappoint. Service is definitely 5+ stars and the menu has something for everyone (including lots of gluten free options). The ambience in the restaurant is warm and inviting and lends itself to a great opportunity to talk/socialize without having to shout. I highly recommend this for everyone. They currently have a Wednesday night dine in special three courses for only $35 which we plan to try soon! read more

Vault was a nice little gem in this rural part of metro Vancouver. Was expecting more of a "bank vault" vibe but the ambiance is really more of an upscale gastropub (which is fine, just not what I was expecting from the description of converted bank). I had the lamb, which was excellent, though a bit on the pricey side. Dessert was cheesecake, which was phenomenal. I would return here if I am in the area again. read more

The food is mediocre at best for the price. Ordered the seafood penne dish and the sauce was very watery. Server was not personable at all. Was asked for ID on my birthday, and the waitress didn't even notice my birthday was that day. No "Happy Birthday" or birthday dessert. Atmosphere is loud. Happy to finally get into this place. Prior to COVID a two week wait. This time 3 days. OpenTable worked effortlessly. Good was great. I had steak frites. Guest had prawn curry bowl. Came here for a team get together. We were about 20 of us and the Restaurant folks took good care of us. The ambience is impressive (nice location in Cloverdale) and the service is quite good. They have special drinks for every week day and I tried the Martini called Vault which was very good. The crab cakes are tasty. I tried the Steelhead Salmon and it was fantastic. Overall, a great place to unwind, have a drink and enjoy some good food. The team was happy and I could easily give it the 5 stars. read more

My date picked this restaurant for our Valentine's Day dinner date. Service was as expected on the slower side because the restaurant was packed with other lovebirds. We ordered the beef carpaccio, seafood hot pot, braised beef short ribs and daily dessert. We received complimentary bread which was nice gesture as we waited for our food to arrive. The beef carpaccio was pretty decent. My seafood hot pot was disappointing. I found the red curry broth flavour to be weak. Thai restaurants make curries so much better. Also, the noodles were slightly undercooked. I should have stuck with the safer choices than to pick an Asian inspired entree. For dessert, we picked the daily dessert which turned out to be a brownie, sorbet, ice cream and a lady finger biscuit. Presentation wise, it felt amateurish with a random assortment of the kitchen back stock. I was confused why there was a biscuit to go with the brownie. Also, why was the ice cream and sorbet together on the same plate? The benefit was that we were able to try a variety of items but it felt like it was not a well executed dessert. I think a brownie with a scoop of ice cream/sorbet would have been adequate and could be beautifully presented. Instead, it felt almost like two separate desserts on a plate. Surrey has very few fine dining options so this is a good option to consider. It is not comparable to downtown fine dining options but it was good for Surrey standards. The reviews on this are spot on. Service was outstanding not only for us but for the people at the surrounding tables. Our waitress even explained the name was derived from the location being an old bank. Larger parties can eat In the actual vault which was cool. But the food was amazing. I had the salmon appy and my husband had the scallops. We both had the Cajun chicken and ribs which was amazing. The ribs were not quite as fall of the rib as I would prefer but it was so good I hardly noticed. But without a doubt the best part was the chocolate peanut butter pie. OMG I wish I could eat a second piece. If you are in the Cloverdale area this is definitely worth stopping at. A note, we saw no review that mentioned reservations. Even mid week. It appears you need them. They do have a small bar that fills up quickly so if you want a table call ahead. read more

Had dinner here last night and it was very enjoyable. It's a cool spot definitely the best place in the area. I always prefer a unique establishment over the chains and this restaurant is a perfect example of why. Atmosphere is really inviting and comfortable. It's not too large of a place but still manages to have a bar area and small lounge were you can watch the game if that's your gig. I love that !! The quality of the food served is very good, fresh and creative. We had two things to share, the Kahlua Curry Prawns and the evening special Lamb Shank. Both meals were excellent, the prawns are always great whether you have them here or at Washington Grill !! (Same owners) The lamb was cooked perfectly and the accompaniments where really done well also. Getting the veggies cooked so they are warm throughout but aren't mushy is the key and they were bang on !! I would agree with others that the portion size is a little on the tight side for the price but it still is a great meal. I had a couple of the Old Yale Brewing Himalayan Salted Caramel Porters and what an amazing Beer!! Worked for me I'll tell ya. My wife's drink fell short their house special coffee, our server got busy and didn't make it back for a while so she never had a chance to order another after dinner drink but it was removed from the bill as it should be. Of course the Peanut Butter Pie was great as usual. Things don't always go smoothly but it's the way your treated that has the biggest affect on your experience and our server did a great job considering it looked as tho there where only couple severs working that night. We went to the Vault for lunch on a friday and found it quite busy but finding a table for the two of us was not a problem. The decor is kind of neat -like a barn but it smelled better! We had beers which were at the high end of what I'd expect to pay. The food was served in decent time and was um, er ... average. My $15 dollar Vault burger was OK but nothing worthy of praise or a revisit. Heck I didn't even get a pickle slice with it. My mate had the Ahi Tuna & Arugula salad which she said was good. At $20 we both agreed that it was very pricey for 3oz of tuna and a bowl of lettuce. Not even a crusty bun to ease the pain. The service was good and was friendly without crossing any boundaries. Overall, lunch was OK but too expensive for what we had so 3 stars for the food; 3 for value for money and 4 for service & decor. I doubt that our experience today will prompt us to try the Vault again. read more

The food here is great. Lots of good flavor and healthy arranged in a professional artistic culinary display to satisfy all your senses. Located in a warm and cozy quaint old bank - that is why it is called the Vault. A good place to talk with friends as it is not too noisy. Although he food is great, and the portions are just right to not get you stuffed the price is a bit on he high side at an average of $20 plate and $15 per appetizer and $8 per cocktail. I still find it is the perfect place to go for special occasions a few times a year. If you have not been here you really should give it a try I am sure you will not be disappointed. read more

Service was fantastic! Food was good. A nice ambiance makes this a preferred alternative to the restaurant chains if you are looking for something different. Getting back to the service... it was honestly one of the best service experiences we have had in a long time. The waitress was professional, but personable and we never had to wait for water refills or wine pouring. We will be back for a dinner after 9:00PM next time so that we can enjoy the live music. We were able to hear a couple of tunes before leaving and the talent was very good. read more

This is my "go to" spot for steaks in the Surrey/Cloverdale area. I've never had a bad meal....in fact every item I've tried - steaks or ribs, has been excellent. It gets busy so I'd recommend reservations, especially on weekends. I've been in once while there was live entertainment and it made for an extremely memorable evening. My husband and I went to the Vault last week for my birthday dinner. We have been there several times and have not had a bad experience. I ordered the beef carpaccio, and the chicken, and my husband ordered the dry ribs and flat iron steak. Luckily for us, wine by the glass was on special that night. This was the first time I have ordered the carpaccio here and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. It was the perfect dish! The beef was so tender, the Dijon aioli drizzle had a great tang, the arugula had the perfect bitterness, the lemon squeeze had the perfect tartness, fried capers, and thin salty garlic toast. Cloverdale has many things going for it, but a strong culinary scene isn't one of them. Enter The Vault. Built on the site of an old bank (yes, you can eat in the vault if you really want to, but the best seats are in the large common area), The Vault offers a strong culinary experience in an unexpected corner of the Lower Mainland. The decor is a little spotty, deco-inspired type mashed with arts & crafts pieces and put together in a mad blend of muted colours, but it somehow works. The service was good, though on my second visit, I sat with my date for a few hours after we finished eating (what else is there to do in the evening in Cloverdale?) and they didn't refill our waters once. The menu covers the basics - some pasta, some steaks (watch out! They all have parmesan and sage!), three salads, some fish, etc. Most dishes are just inspired enough to be interesting (parmesan on all the steaks aside), and the couple I tried have been delicious. Not one for parmesan on my steak (have you caught that yet?), I enjoyed the daily special, the only steak available without it, a massive 12 oz ribeye with guiness-bbq glaze on mashed and asparagus. Delicious, juicy, tender; a good cut with just the right seasoning. My date's steak was a little on the rare side of medium rare, but better less cooked than more, as that is correctable. On the desert side, I recommend you get a little adventurous the banana-caramel spring rolls. Yum! Overall, The Vault gets kudos for offering me the best meal I've ever had in Cloverdale...outside of my mom's place. :) read more

If the Vault was in Vancouver I'd only give it four stars. But it's not in Vancouver, it's in Cloverdale and it deserves special recognition for being the jewel that it is. The Vault is the best that Cloverdale has to offer and you'd have to go as far as White Rock, Fort Langley, or across the Fraser to find anywhere better. The Vault has a great atmosphere, very good food, and an excellent choice of alcoholic tipples. If you are in the area, you won't be disappointed with a meal at the Vault. read more

My wife and I were introduced to this restaurant through a couple of friends. This place is a nice surprise for us sitting out here on the other side of the Fraser River. I would say that is restaurant has all the same characteristics of having dinner in downtown Vancouver. I also think they have a real chef in the back making the food versus someone assembling dishes. The service is great, the menu is simple and they have live entertainment on the weekends. I would say that their fish bowl is one of their best items on the menu. Also if have a group of six, I would recommend getting into the "vault" for your dinner. I live in Burnaby, and if wasn't for a Gift Certificate my husband got I wouldn't have ventured all the way to Cloverdale to eat. Not too sure what to expect after making my reservation for six (they accept Entertainment Coupons!! yay!), my family and I were quite impressed with the food and ambiance. The service was pretty decent, and they only lagged at the end when we waited a little too long for our food to get packed up. They were packed, though, at 5:30pm on a Sunday night. I had the ahi tuna, and it was very good. Others in our table were pleased with their short rib (huge!), and steaks. All the meals were generously sized, and we were stuffed by the end of the night. On 176th street, it is only a short skip away from the US Border, and this win my votes for best dining I've had in that direction. Better than the Keg. read more

Love this Place! Its a really nice enviroment, service is always great, Food Is AMAZING! When your inside you forget that your in Cloverdale! It feels like a Vancouver Restauant! My work is just minutes from the Vault and we used to go to the The Keg for all our work functions but we have changed over to the Vault ... I have tried almost everything on the menu !!! LOL ..... A fantastic place to have dinner! It was jam packed with people and the atmosphere was electric. The only issue I had was that i went for a steak dinner and I didn't have enough options to choose from. The menu says that the food takes longer, but it's worth the wait. They are right...my steak was cooked to perfection! My wife, who normally doesn't like steak was impressed with how good it tasted and how tender it was. Her meal was also well made. We would definitely go back, and would recommend this place to anyone in town. read more

Have been to The Vault many times and it saddens me to see this restaurant go downhill the way it has. Last night we had reservations for 7PM and the place was less than a quarter full when we arrived which should have been a clue. Both my wife and I had the braised beef rib and mine was good but my wife's was overcooked and tough. The calamari appetizer was a third the size, more expensive and less flavourful than what you can get at The Cactus Club or Olive Garden. My beer that was on special was served lukewarm and my wife had the Sangria that was the absolute worst we have ever tasted. We used to be fans of this restaurant but we will not be going back. read more

This is a funky looking restaurant that used to be a bank and the old vault is still there as a party room. I was there with a friend and her six yr old daughter. They ordered lobster ravioli and a kids cheese pizza. I ordered for myself a steak dinner welldone, absolutely NO PINK, and NO PARMESAN as I don't eat or even like cheese. We waited. And waited. and waited some more. I was also on a break from work so time was important. Then our server came over and asked us how we are doing as if we had our food already and when I replied "hungry," she clued in looking somewhat embarrassed and hurried off. She returned shortly to say that they were just plating our dinners and it takes a "really long time" to cook my steak the way I wanted it. Sorry, my friends. So its MY fault our dinner took almost an hour! It made me feel like a big burden! Then when our meals arrived, my steak dinner was covered in parmesan which I asked them to leave out. At this point, I had about twenty minutes before I had to go back to work. If I had to wait almost an hour for the wrong order, how much longer would I had to have waited for them to correct my order? Pissed off, I told them that I didn't want my meal cuz I was running out of time and had to go back to work soon. I wanted to relax enjoy my meal and not have to "rush eat" and pay an arm and a leg! In the end, I had to go back to work with no supper. My friends stayed and finished their dinners. I guess the Vault didn't want to eat the food cost and brought a steak dinner in a take-out box but it was too late as I had left already. read more

The first time I've ever had dinner in Cloverdale and it did not disappoint! This menu is chalk full of delectable seafood dishes. I had the seafood hotpot with rice noodles (naturally gluten-free) and it was absolutely divine. It was full of prawns, salmon, mussels and halibut, all simmered in a curry broth with the perfect amount of skinny rice noodles. The wine list was nice and they had a pretty good selection of craft beer. The kids menu had plenty to choose from and everyone was very happy with their dishes. The ambience was pretty cool (it does have a very old vault that you can eat in) and our server was terrific. If I'm ever back in Cloverdale, I will definitely check it out again. read more

But I did find the portions small and the overall experience less than perfect by a wide margin.. I think it doubtful I would go back since there are just so many places that are a lot better... Friday evening, the place was about 40% full. Server was always in a rush. She would swoop in and interrupt whatever conversation we were in, ask what we wanted, and run away. Felt like we had to rush any interactions with her. This isn't a diner. My wife is a lightweight and ordered a ceasar. Nothing. Not even the slightest buzz. I ordered a singapore sling. Tasted like mixer. Sent it back for a double. Very slight alcohol taste. I think a single gets you 1/2 oz and a double gets you 1oz. Tried the duck confit poutine. It was shredded duck, not confit. Gravy was typical poutine gravy. Didn't work with the duck. Not served over fries, but halved red potatoes. What is this? A white trash attempt at foodieness? Wife had Kahlua curry "tiger prawns", which turned out to be large shrimp--about half the size of tiger prawns. Couldn't taste the Kahlua. She liked the carrot it came with. I had the flatiron steak. It was pretty good. There was no presentation whatsoever. There was live music, which we didn't expect. A guy singing and playing depressing songs on his guitar. Not sure why this is considered a plus when you're trying have a conversation and enjoy yourselves. For a $100+ dinner for 2, you're better off going elsewhere. read more
