The Social Tavern - Chicken Pot Pie

The Social Tavern

I've been to this establishment a couple of times, and I have had solid experiences for both, with…read moretheir own pros and cons. Most recently, hubby and I went with a group of friends and coworkers to the tavern for dinner. I will admit the parking lot isn't great and on the smaller side. We managed to see someone leaving and grabbed their spot. Some of our friends had to park quite a bit further away and walk over. It was also a hotter/more humid summer day and we ended up sitting on the patio. Unfortunately it felt more like an enclosed patio and by the end of the night it was quite the contrast to the icy cold air conditioned tavern interior. The servers tried their best to keep us hydrated with pitchers of water... but this may be the rare time I say skip the patio in the summer. Now to focus on the more positive aspects. I had the Tavern Cheeseburger and my husband ultimately decided on the Philly Cheesesteak. My cheeseburger was a solid standard. Nice patty, melted cheese and didn't skimp on the tomatoes, lettuce, etc. The Philly Cheeseteak was a huge portion that hubby barely finished and it looked cheesy/oozy good (and it was, or at least the small bite I took. Service was good, food was solid. I liked the ambiance of a more "up-scale" neighbourhood pub. Just make sure you consider sitting inside (in the AC) on a hot summer's day.

Nicely appointed, the venue is quickly becoming a go-to spot for locals. The ambiance is clean and fresh, well lit, a mix of high tops, and four tops with a few booths/banquettes. The staff is eager to be helpful. The management is friendly and approachable. We wish them well in settling in.

Green Timbers Pub - Caesar Salad Wrap

After the hubby was disappointed to find out there was a power outage at our usual watering hole,…read morewe found ourselves at the Green Timbers Pub instead. The place is located at one end of a small strip mall, adjacent to a liquor store with plenty of parking on a weeknight. Interior was larger than expected because the pub is not easily viewable from the main streets. Lots of high top seating, a decent amount of regular tables, and an insane amount of TV's along one wall, plus a couple of darts boards. You could probably watch every sports game available without having to turn your neck. A very nice selection of food and drinks for a neighbourhood pub. Hubby had British Style Fish & Chips, but portion wise they looked like they went light on the fries. I opted for a Chicken Caesar Wrap with grilled chicken breast, and easy on the dressing since we both decided to order a pint each of their house beers. He said the beer wasn't very good and in all honesty I thought the beer was okay in the same way that I don't have high expectations for house wines. It was drinkable and that was good enough for me. Maybe it was getting later in the evening, but at some point between the waitress and the kitchen, my order changed. Not much, but suddenly I got the wraps with chicken tenders, and a regular amount of Caesar salad dressing and not for the other available customization I had chosen. It wasn't as if I asked for a special customization for my wrap...but I decided it wasn't worth the effort to complain or ask that they remake the food. It is as you would expect of a neighbourhood pub in Surrey. Decent prices, free parking, and a place where you can be as loud and rambunctious with your friends and have a good time.

Roots and Wings Distillery - April 2022

Roots and Wings Distillery

Nice place to visit. Great cocktails. Unfortunately their products aren't up to snuff. I bought…read moretheir Lavender Gin at a local liquor store. It is the worse hard liquor I have ever bought. Lavender?? No, just some slightly amber gin that I can't even mix with anything. Whitley Niell makes a great Parma Lavender Gin that I first tried in a cocktail in Portsmouth UK. It isn't sold in Canada anymore unfortunately and was only for a short period. That was the reason I snapped up the Roots and Wings gin but I am resigned to using it for cleaning. I did try some of their other products and only the Abisnstine impressed me. I would have loved to have given a great review of their liquor but that wasn't possible. Drinking their cocktails is a different thing as they have a great mixologist. My advice- visit them, get a sample before buying, and buy only what tastes good to you. Everyone has different tastes.

Was at Fort Langley for lunch so figured I should stop by here on my way home since it was less…read morethan a 10min drive away. It wasn't busy at all when I arrived. I was the only there since it was 1pm on a Monday after all. Was about to grab to an Old Fashion after looking at their online menu, but was then told that they did flights so that's what I got. The flight; You choose six from a list of about 15. They do primarily vodka, but they do have some whiskey, gin, and even am Absinthe. I was very happy with all 6 and would order them again. I won't really go into any detail about each spirit since everyone has their own preference when it comes to alcohol. What I can say is that their Old Fashioned Spirit was my favorite. The service: The person working at the time was really friendly and helpful. Willing to answer questions about the spirits and make recommendations. The distillery: It's small and due to Covid Protocols they're only accepting 6 people in the building; however, they have a lot of outdoor space to enjoy. Their pick-up truck bar is the most eye catching so that's where we sat. I'd 100% come back here and if I lived in Langley I'd probably make this place one of my go to hangouts.
