Should be NO STARS We have been to the Vault just a few times and anyways had nice service and nice food......NOT TONIGHT. It was my wife's birthday and we thought we would have a nice dinner alone. First off, the server wanted to be ANYPLACE else other than working and she had the personality of a door knob. We ordered cocktails and a couple appetizers....the drinks were good and one of the appetizers were what we ordered and one we have no idea what it was.....figured we just deal with and not say anything. Dinner came and we ordered a couple more of the same cocktails we ordered before. They came after a 10 minute wait to get them while our dinner was getting cold....My wife tasted her drink and it was tequila and NOT vodka what she had ordered both times. Flagged down the server and explained to her that her drink was wrong.....without saying a word, she took it away and bought it right back within 30 seconds and told my wife that is WAS vodka, she said she saw the bottle sitting right there by the bartender....plus before she brought it back, they pour vodka on the top and said this was good enough. So NOW she has a vodka and tequila....she tased it and spit it out. I told the server she was not drinking it and to get her another one....please. Again- without saying sorry or a word, she grabbed the drink took it back and had another made for her....when she brought it my wife, she even said .."oh this isn't clouding looking like the last one" ....YES, because it was wrong and this one is RIGHT. Still without any personality what so ever, she groaned and walked off....THAN we get the bill and we get charged for 5 drinks....my two and my wife's two PLUS the one they got wrong and took back...STILL HAD TO PAY FOR IT....Needless to say, we will never be back to the Vault......and if you go...check what you are getting charged for. read more

We had the best waitress. She sat us down and told us she was going to take good care of us today, and boy did she. Their drink menu is huge so many cocktails to choose from, traditional, dessert and more. We drank a few cocktails our waitress was so attentive the whole time. Our food came fast and we ordered dessert with fun dessert cocktails to pair with. Our seats were comfortable, beautiful ambience and it was fun to watch the bartenders create all of the cocktails. I was very disappointed with this restaurant. We had a reservation to sit outside for our anniversary and it felt like we were an afterthought. The restaurant did not redeem itself by the food either. A lot of the dishes were lacking flavor. Incredibly disappointed with the Caesar salad. There was hardly any dressing on it and it looked a mess. We ordered Halibut for the main course, a $40 dish, and it was a decent piece of fish, but was not well done.. it was too dry and again, lacked flavor. The only good thing know the menu were a starter of prawns in an Asian sauce. And, their bread was good. I was not happy with the service or how long it took. Came here again with a group of people, bad move. I have no idea how this place gets good reviews. Other than the servers being good, there is no reason to come here. Half the offerings they used to be known for aren't even on the menu anymore. They used to have GREAT food. The last several times I've come here my food is sub-par. For some reason the burgers are consistently burnt yet soggy and consistency has been thrown out the window. During my most recent visit, it took forever for my food to arrive, and it was undercooked. I asked to speak to a manager, I was told there was none. When I repeated that I was not going to pay for undercooked food, a guy named Sean came and berated me in front of my party. He blatantly disrespected me and tried to make me feel like an idiot that didn't know what cooked food looked like. They were busy, but I would NEVER speak to a customer like that. I am still waiting to hear back from a "manager" that apparently doesn't exist here. Looking at other reviews, sounds like I'm not the only one to encounter this problem. There is zero management here. I tried to call to complain to the owner about the man I encountered, but was told that I would get a call back and never received a call. I have called numerous times, and am told the actual manager never comes into the restaurant. Recommending everyone I know to avoid this place. If you have any problems with the food, you will be berated and treated like garbage by their cook. read more

My experience at this place is the reason why this is my first review! My boyfriend made reservations online for our anniversary. Upon entering the greeter was not friendly, once we sat down the server came up to us and asked for our IDs, I had told her that I unfortunately only have a temporary ID that was expired (my fault I understand). However, how she treated me was terrible. She spoke at me not to me, as if it was an inconvenience to her. She spoke very loudly as well, saying that her minor section is full. Vault 244 Really enjoyed dining at Vault 244. I had the Steak Bites ($15) and Brussel Sprouts ($10) from the Small Plate section of the menu. We visited during Happy Hour (Tuesday through Thursday from 4pm to 5:30 and 9pm to 10pm, and Friday and Saturday from 4pm to 5:30 and 10pm to closing), but did not order from the Happy Hour Menu. We made our group's reservation through Open Table, but because our reservation fell during Happy Hour, no points. Sad face. (FYI, this was fully disclosed on Open Table, so we knew it going in.) As an aside, I was pleased to see and support the restaurant's minors policy (minors accommodated in banquet room and outside seasonal seating areas, leaving the adults in the dining room in peace). Happy face. The service was very good, attentive without becoming a pest, understanding, and fast (Thank You, Tyler). I will be more than happy to return. Four Stars. read more

Very very disappointed. Two times have I been here and I got sick both times. I have filed a complaint with the public health authority because it happened both times and the first time I actually ended up in the ER. The first time I came here was in Dec. I ordered a special they had on duck and it was not cooked through. It was bloody and red inside. I contacted my server and they brought out the "chef" - who argued it was cooked correctly and I didn't know what I was talking about - SUPER rude. I was so embarrassed at being talked to like that I just ate It. My date and i both had the duck, and we both had full blown food poisoning within hours. Diarrhea, vomiting, the whole scenario. We thought maybe it was a fluke because we joined a few friends for dinner this last week - I suggested other nearby venues but this one was the group choice. Well....Guess what? Over half our party got food poisoning. One of our friends had issues with the burger she ordered being undercooked - but she didn't want the encounter I had experienced to repeat itself (i informed her of what happened when i spoke up before) so she told our server it wasn't to her liking to try to avoid conflict. Our server was a girl who was a bit condescending and seemed to roll her eyes when we asked if she could get something else (we were denied) when she left the table. The staff seemed like they may have been short staffed, but they couldn't keep up and didn't seem to know what they were doing. Here's the kicker. We all had to pay for our food poisoning. I complained when the duck was undercooked that i was afraid of getting sick (not trying to insult the guy), and asked it to be removed from the bill. His direct answer was basically - you order it. You pay for it. I do think he specifically said "if you didn't know what you wanted you shouldn't have ordered it" So, I don't suggest dining here unless you would like to be criticized, then vomit and experience explosive diarrhea for several days after eating here. Made a reservation for 7:45 for our group of five. When we arrived, we were told it would be an hour (!) before we could be seated. No one had communicated that to us, even though they had our number. So we were left to wander about in the rain. I understand that life happens, but someone should have called us to let us know that we wouldn't be seated for another hour after our reservation. After we returned, we were told it would be another 15 minutes. We were finally seated around 9:00 pm. My drink order was incorrect. In addition, two of us wanted to share a burger and they brought it to us on one plate. The waiter handed a knife to the guest with an extra plate. Apparently they couldn't be bothered to split the plate in the kitchen. All in all, they get two stars instead of one because they food was fine. The service was unpleasant and amateurish. read more

This place is pretty small. It used to be an old bank from what I read. Anyway, the food and drinks were great. I ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf and was impressed. Huge portion!! Fiancé ordered the ribs eye and she was impressed with the steak as well. The one thing we didn't like were the scalloped potatoes. Too many spices and not enough cheese. Stay away from those. The secret aardvark habanero aioli is a must try!! Great desserts. I loved the bread pudding. Super moist and the vanilla ice cream is a great touch. I also tried a bite of the creme brûlée and cookie skillet. I could order any of the desserts mentioned and be happy. The only cons and why they lose a star is the ventilation. The server named Tanya, who evidently was head server, was rude! It was Happy Hour but no mention was made of that when we sat down. She charged a dollar for a cherry and cherry juice in an old fashioned, and was surly about it. We visited Vault 244 for dinner tonight. We were greeted and seated promptly and had a lot of delicious options to choose from. I was thinking of getting a steak when we arrived, but the stuffed salmon called out to me. I took a chance and wasn't disappointed. The stuffed salmon (stuffed with Dungeness crab and bay shrimp) was cooked to perfection. The flavors were perfectly executed and complimented each other well. The rice was phenomenal and the beans were perfectly cooked and not soggy. I would definitely order it again, and my other half, who isn't the biggest salmon fan said it's something even he would consider ordering for his own meal. Other half had the scallops. They were huge and perfectly cooked. The prosciutto added a perfect, subtle flavor. The lemon caper linguine was the perfect match and the asparagus was done beautifully. We finished the meal with the orange creamsicle cheesecake with blueberry sauce and fresh blueberries and a strawberry. It was phenomenal. The flavors matched so well and it truly did taste like an orange creamsicle! The price is higher than your average place, but so is the quality and quantity of the food. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked delicious and we are looking forward to returning. We lived in Vegas for 6 years, so we know good food. A great restaurant experience should be seamless: good food with unobtrusive but attentive service that anticipates your needs. Sadly, our third visit continued to disappoint. The acoustics tend to be loud, so if you're hoping to hold a conversation that's something to consider. Generally, we've all felt that the place is either inadequately staffed or the staff is inadequately trained, because we've always had to flag down a server for requests that should be obvious ("We've ordered dessert; could someone clear away the dishes?" "Water glasses are empty; could someone refill them?") The food was tasty and well-prepared, though nothing exceptional. Which would all be fine if the service were up to par. But it's really hard to enjoy a meal out with friends when two of the salads arrive about 20 minutes later than the other two. And when one friend has to practically beg for a fork. We'd chalk it all up to growing pains, but this place has been around for awhile and it's fairly pricey by local standards. Honestly, we expect more. read more

The night began with traffic delays across the bridge as the rain flooded one of the paths out of Corvallis. Parking nearby to take a picture of elevated levels of the river, I passed by Vault 224; situated on the corner with an unassuming exterior. However, once you enter the room takes a step into rustic ambience. Seated for a party of one, the bar was a welcome relief for my tired feet. The bartender was quite attentive to my needs, filling my water chalice seconds it reached a critical point. I started the meal with the stuffed mushrooms, which came served in a cast iron skillet. The flavors were complementary; the mushroom balanced by the buttered aquatic melody. There was a subtle sweet and salty flavor that can only be the balsamic reduction; personally I would have liked a little bit more. To keep my wallet from needing CPR, choosing the Wagyu Meatloaf as its price ($22) only caused mild panic; it also came rated as a "popular dish". The dish is a mix of wagyu beef and ground pork; maybe the dish should be referred to as "Half Wagyu Meatloaf" :). with a stunning presentation I proceeded with my first bite. The bacon wrapped edges added a salty crunch that was quite satisfying. however forgetting to pair the bite with the tomato relish, the bite felt a little dry. Maybe that's why I love to spread a meatloafs ketchup reduction over it. However when the two are married in union there is a harmonious taste and balance. Although my waistline tells me to stop; how does one leave when the dessert menu whispers "taste me". I struggled over this decision for quite some time. At the my truest core I am chocolate chip cookie fanatic (they serve them in a skillet!); yet I have come to appreciate the sweet and crunchy flavors of a pecan pie. Settling for what will retain its flavor profile as I commute home. The pecan is the present choice... let hope I follow the instruction on heating it up. I met up with a friend and we tried Vault 244 for the first time. I didn't pay attention that this is a place you might need a reservation, but luckily we got a seat right when we walked in. I absolutely loved the food! I got the Pommes Frites to start and that with the secret aardvark habanero aioli was delicious! I got the Cesar salad for my main (trying to be somewhat "good" after eating so many fries! Ha!) and was surprised how tasty it was! I raved to my fiancé when I got home about a salad! Haha It's a little different than most Cesar salads, but sooooo good! I only gave 4 stars because service was a bit disappointing. The waitress was nice, but for how often she walked by our table, we weren't checked in very often. Definitely would come again though. read more

The Vault 244 Bistro/Lounge is a good restaurant; the room is pleasant, and the food is fine. Our waiter on Tuesday evening was inept, however, making the meal a less than enjoyable experience. I try to list the details here of the bad service which compromised the meal. They might seem petty, but anyone who knows good service will recognize the failures. A restaurant where the average meal is likely to be $50 or more per person (before tip) really needs to do better. 1. Waiter arrives, greets the four of us, and says he will bring water and menus. 2. Waiter returns with two glasses of water for four people. We have to ask for two more. 3. Waiter takes order for cocktails. Cocktails arrive in a few minutes brought by another server. 4. Waiter returns to take orders: 4 main dishes, 4 salads. In a reasonable time, two salads arrive, brought by another server. Fifteen or more minutes elapse without the other two salads arriving, despite three inquiries of our waiter, to which he responds that "They should be coming soon." Finally, one of us says "Go find them!" which seems to motivate him to bring the two missing dishes. 5. Salad plates are removed, one with a fork. Cocktail glasses are removed. 6. [Managers take note: waiter fails to ask if we'd like anything else to drink, missing an opportunity to up the profit (and his tip).] We skip glasses (or a bottle) of wine. 7. Main dishes arrive, simultaneously. However, we need to flag down another server to request a single fork. She brings two sets of flatware rolled in napkins. 8. Waiter does not return to inquire of our satisfaction with the food. When he does return to ask about dessert, we must request menus. He returns with menus, takes our orders, but leaves our dirty dinner plates on the table. They remain there for ten minutes or more until we flag him down again and ask to have them removed. 9. Waiter brings desserts and checks simultaneously, without asking about after-dinner coffee, etc. We might never return. read more

We went here after we got married, and we chatted our poor server Ashli's ear off. She was extremely friendly and attentive. What really struck us was how sharp she was after having worked a double shift all day. I don't remember if I tipped her well enough, but I hope so! If you eat here, hopefully you get Ashli as your server. She's friendly, patient and professional. Sorry we talked so much, Ashli! The Alaskan Halibut and Pork Wellington were outstanding. We also had stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. Everything was delicious. We've lived in Corvallis for only two years, but this is the best restaurant we've had in either Corvallis or Albany. And I think we've been to most of them. You're going to spend a little more here, but it's completely worth every cent. The food is absolutely smashing. My wife tried the Fire and Ice cocktail, which was outstanding, esp. if you like spicy drinks. I had a White Russian (also good), but I was jealous of her drink. We finished up sharing a Spanish Coffee (or two), which was just as tasty as everything else. Nothing was disappointing. Everything was perfect. Go to Vault 244. Ask for Ashli as your server.
