How's the food? Couldn't tell you. Didn't get that far. TLDR; at the 40 minute mark, having no food and no drinks (except water) we told the server to cancel our order and walked out. The first time in either of our lives we have walked out of a restaurant. My wife and I made a reservation for our anniversary. It was our first visit here to Vault 244. Walked in a couple minutes early and were seated w/in a few minutes. Both interior/exterior looked great, good decor/vibes. It was apparent from the moment we walked in that they were busy, and likely short staffed. We could only see one server working the floor most of the time. No problem, we had nowhere else to be... I wasn't initially watching the clock, but as the process drug on, I started watching and it was 40 minutes on the nose for the following process to take place before we walked out. The food menu's were already at the table, giving us time to immediately review and make decisions on dinner. Eventually, we stopped the server as she went by and asked for a drink menu, which she promptly brought, we then waited a fair amount of time and watched a couple more two person tables get seated, before she returned with water and offered to take our drink orders. Based on how slow things were going we made both our drink and dinner orders. We also watched the two tables that came in after us place their drink orders following ours. Then we sat...and sat..., becoming more and more irritated because my wife was facing the bulk of the restaurant. The server stayed pretty busy, but she could see the bartender having time to chit-chat. She also overheard the bartender reading nightly specials, which we weren't offered. I noticed one of the two newer tables looking like they were also getting irritated, and spending a lot of time, looking in the direction of the bar. And then eventually, the server brought drinks to the couple that was looking irritated. And then, a few minutes later, drinks to the other table that came in after us. Each of those drink deliveries, the server passed directly by our table w/out so much as a look. We spent the next 5 minutes or so contemplating whether we should just leave, while I was thinking in my head, oh the drinks will come, we can settle down and have a good dinner. At the 40 minute mark it was too much. My wife went and told the server to please cancel our order, we had been there 40 minutes w/out so much as a cocktail. The server pointed at the bar and said our drinks were about up. There were no drinks up. The happy ending... we went to House of Noodles which was awesome as always, and BJ's for ice cream which had the two nicest gals behind the counter you'd ever want to meet. We have been patrons of this restaurant for quite a while. In the beginning it was amazing. The food and drinks were excellent but as time has gone on it has really lost its luster. The food is high priced for the quality you get and the staff even though nice, could take a little more time when listening to you when ordering, insuring you get what you asked for. . Not a great experience. The Brussel sprouts were under cooked, the calamari was soggy. Every time we needed water refills we had to ask (they weren't busy we came at open). The bone marrow was good. We each had a salad and added protein. Steak, shrimp and tuna. Everything was just short of hood. Lacking flavor, seasoning etc. all in all, not a place I'd come back to. I did not make it beyond having a drink as I scanned the menu at 1715 hours. I ordered a drink which was good. Conversation with the bartenders was engaging. I realized that with about 75% of the tables still empty on a Friday afternoon, I could more comfortably eat dinner at a table than sitting at the bar. I asked for a table. The bartenders said they would check, but after a few minutes with them focused solely on making drinks and not talking with the person seating people, I asked that person myself about accessing one of the many empty tables. They said they would check to see if any were available. Having worked in hospitality and restaurants myself, I realized that they might soon begin filling up as evening approached. I then was approached by a person not identifying who she was or what her role was who said they had not tables available, and all were reserved. She said they were reserved for the 6, 6:30, 7, and 7:30 hours, and that I could come back at 8:30. She said they had a rule about not seating people at any reserved table, no matter the reservation time, before the reserved time. I asked her to clarify if that meant that the tables reserved for 7 and 7:30 could not be filled now at 5:15. She said yes; no reserved tables could be used prior to the reserved times, and she said they try to avoid those who linger beyond their expected departure time and would infringe on those arriving for the reserved times. I told her I understood that as being important to consider. I emphasized that I was alone, could assure her I would not get lost in conversation with dinner partners since I was alone, and could easily finish dinner within an hour, well ahead of a table reserved for 7 or 7:30. She became stern and said they had to observe the rules. I then paid for my drink, vacated my bar seat, and said I was glad to ensure that they had all available seats vacant until reservation customers arrived. I have never heard of a restaurant voluntarily forfeiting opportunities to make money off from a sure thing where a customer would easily be finished at a table reserved for 1 1/2 - 2 hours later. I then went to a wonderful neighboring restaurant to discover an amazing list of exquisite drinks (like the Kir Royale I enjoyed!) and entrees like the Beef Bourguignon that was tender and delectable. I ended up being thankful for the Vault's business shortsightedness that led to my new discovery down the street. read more

Went there for dinner, and the service was great. Most of us ordered the brisket burger and holy "cow" it was amazing! The flavor was top notch. The fries were fresh and hot. The only disappointing part was our dessert. The oversized hot chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream and whipping cream was wonderful, however the Strawberry Shortcake was the least favorite of our desserts. The shortbread was really a pound cake that was cold and hard, topped with some cut up strawberries and a very small amount of whipping cream...very disappointing. Weekday evening, they are open on Monday! Delightful dinner with great food and interesting drinks menu. Don't like the high stools, we couldn't get a regular table; but it worked out. I don't often write a review based on service as the primary factor. This is generally because I know we are all human and prone to error, having an off day, etc... and one interaction may not reflect much about the establishment as a whole. However, when I see repeated examples of poor service at a singe establish, it points to a larger problem. I frequently go to Vault for business dinners and my past two experiences compelled me to write this review. Experience 1: Constant checking in and busing plates before being done with meal. The gentleman waiting on my business associate and I seemed compelled to check in with us every couple minutes and ask "how's it going?". He was very high energy, which is fine, until it detracts from the dining experience. It was distracting to the point that my guest, a customer of mine, commented. The final straw came when he took my plate despite the fact that there was still food on it and I was holding my fork! Had I not been with a customer I probably would have said something. The place was not all that busy, there were plenty of open tables with no one waiting and it wasn't even close to closing time. Why the rush? Experience 2: Suggesting the items that "aren't too bad" and ignoring us for much of the meal. When my guest, another of my customers, asked for recommendations the waiter commented on a couple that were not too bad and even described a couple of the off-putting qualities of some of the dishes. While I applaud the young man's honesty, this is not really tactful customer service. After delivering the apps, he vanished without inquiring about the main course for about 30 minutes. In both cases, I am certain these were fairly inexperienced servers who, with some coaching, could deliver satisfactory customer service. The food on both occasions was perfectly acceptable. I hope the management reads these reviews and will take action to adequately train their staff. read more

In a small town like Albany it can be difficult to find a fancy place to take your wife out to dinner. Well I'm so glad we have at least one upscale option, Vault 244! Sat at the bar for date night. Great atmosphere and the staff was working hard to get orders out perfectly. Bar tender was nonstop making very creative drinks- seems many people come for the hard alcohol as well as the very well prepared food. Had the sea bass and the pork. Both meals cooked incredibly, with sauces that's weren't overwhelming and a nice crisp to their outside. Pork was tender and not dry. Great combination of tastes. Fish came with small potatoes that were tasty and pork with au gratin that were rich (in a good way). Creme brûlée for dessert came out fast and also perfect. An amazing meal. Extremely disappointed, had a 4 pm reservations, was there when they opened, was seated rarely quickly. Drinks took 15 minutes and didn't order until more than 20 minutes, (4:20). Food did not come out until 5;05, remember we had a reservation at 4. Then at 5:25 the server comes over to us and says we have to finish / leave in a couple of minutes because they have a 5:30 reservation. We told the server the food didn't come out until 5:05, he says he's sorry but we have to leave. Unbelievable, when you spend 30 + dollars for a meal you shouldn't be rushed out of a restaurant especially when the delay was the food coming out over an hour after we're seated. I suggest not going to this establishment, being rushed out is not good customer service. read more

Best restaurant I've ever been too. Service was great and the food was even better! We were seated next to the fireplace which was amazing!

I would like to start with our server/hostess Ashley who was amazing! She greeted us upon arrival and got us a fabulous table by the fireplace. Then she suggested an awesome appetizer which were the stuffed mushrooms. They were stuffed with fresh crab and then drizzled with balsamic vinegar served piping hot! Wow!! Then the table ordered a couple of cocktails which were done with great skill and a nice portion. So a few martinis and an old fashion. Loved that they stuffed their olives with goat cheese!! Moving on to dinner. The table ordered steaks which is a cool idea you can select your meat, the veggie, the starch and a sauce if you wish. So you basically craft your meal. The truffle risotto was our fave! I ordered the Wild Salmon which was to be blackened but it did not appear to be but that was fine by me. I am not a big fan of that seasoning but the fish was cooked nicely over a bed of forbidden rice and a mango salsa. Yum! Then we got a couple of desserts. The creme brûlée's was lovely and the cookies with Carmel sauce and a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream all served warm. That just melted in your mouth! All in all a little diamond in the downtown area of Albany! We will definitely be back! read more

Delicious. Best food we've had in awhile. We had the wagyu meatloaf with mashed potatos and some of the crispiest brussel sprouts I've ever had. You can get a better meal at Applebee's, and at less than half the price. All four of our meals were unacceptably poor quality tonight. Our stuffed chicken Parmesan was almost burned to a crisp. It was so dry even my 7 year old wouldn't eat it. The scallops were completely undercooked and paired with a mountain of flavorless dry risotto. The meatloaf was almost too burned to eat as were the over roasted brussels sprouts. My 10 oz sirloin steak showed up as two thinly sliced end cuts, full of gristle, overcooked on the edges and undercooked in the middle. The barely blanched green beans accompanying it were as crispy as the ones at the farmer's market. If it wasn't for the mashed potatoes and a good server the night would have been a total loss. Come on chef, you can't let food like this get out of the kitchen. We won't be back. read more

Stopped in for drinks and appetizers the Thursday before the Freeze. Amazing! Fully COVID precautions compliant, service was on point, and when she asked for a daiquiri the bartender immediately grabbed a shaker and a lime. Yep, knows what he is about. We squeezed in under the happy hour menu, had a couple of appetizers off of that including the "half" Caesar salad. It was huge and quite tasty! Will be back, might become a weekly thing. It pains me greatly to write this review. Let me state this up front and very clearly. The food is outstanding and the service is friendly and efficient. My issue is the Vault's unwritten table turnover policy! My party of 4 arrived at 6:18 PM FOR our 6:15PM reservation. After being seated our party proceeded to order 3 appetizers, 2 rounds of drinks and entrees. As mentioned above, the food was uniformly excellent. Our party decided against dessert (too full) and we continued our conversation while we waited for our 300$ bill. As soon as the bill was delivered at around 8:05PM, the waitress told us "just so you know the next party is here, and we need your table". I honestly thought the waitress was joking as I was still finishing my drink, and our party was finishing conversation. At around 8:15 the waitress came back around and said - "I really need this table" and she motioned to people at the bar. The irony was that there was an empty table behind us and in front of the fireplace. This interaction was embarrassing for all of us and we immediately got up to leave. I privately asked the waitress to help me understand why we were asked to leave 2x. She indicated that she was sorry, but that it was policy to turn over the table at 2 hours. This seemed incredibly arbitrary (and frankly rude) given the open tables around us. When I motioned to them, she said "they are reserved". After we were unceremoniously kicked out, my wife decided to check if there were reservations available. Sure enough, there were - it was 830PM after all. Really disappointing. read more

I've visited this establishment several times for drinks and have always been pleased with the extensive drink menu. I decided to dine with them and ordered the Pork Wellington with Brussels sprouts and potato pancake. It was the worst prepared meal in the 16 months since I have been in the Albany Corvallis area. The potatoes were burnt the Wellington was unrecognizable. The waiter was quite attentive but at no time did a manager or kitchen staff address the issue. This is the lowest rating I have given a restaurant ever. If I can say anything positive about the evening, the bread pudding was good and the Hendricks martini was perfect. Nice place for cocktails but I have had better meals in chain restaurants. read more

The Vault 244 has been one of my primary restaurant's for special occasions. I took my wife to dinner here for our anniversary. Because of Covid we hadn't eaten out in over a year. The waitress we had was new, which is understandable. The service was very slow, drink order took about 30 minutes! We placed our meal order with a request for salad to arrive before the meal. The salad came with meal! We ordered additional drinks, again long delay at least a half hour. No follow-up on the meal!! My wife's steak was over cooked! Last drink order arrived, NOT what we ordered. Being a business owner myself, I know how hard it is to find good help, but, that's a management problem. I wonder what happened to the management? Customer service in the restaurant business is the main priority. Yes, we'll try again, hopefully with a better out come. read more

Made a reservation for family weekend for OSU and spent quite a bit of time checking yelp reviews etc to find a place that would have a menu that my 10 year old and her older sisters would eat. The reviews looked great and actually selected them over and above Sybaris Bistro. Probably shouldn't have done that because we were refused service and our reservation was canceled while we stood there in the restaurant because they said we should have called to let them know that minors were in our party. Considering that I checked reviews and their website prior to booking the reservation and it didn't state that anywhere, I find that suspect. Additionally, I actually attempted to call because we had a 7:30 reservation because everyone was really hungry so I wanted to see if we could come in earlier. I tried to call and no one ever answered the phone, yet they said we should have called to confirm the reservation. Pretty hard to do that if you NEVER answer your damn phone. In addition, it looks like they haven't cleaned the restaurant in forever because we had to duck to avoid several nasty, large cobwebs that were hanging in the doorway. So gross. Thanks for not only putting a major damper on family weekend but also ruining a birthday celebration. read more

Chose the Vault to celebrate my nieces graduation from Oregon State. Made a reservation two weeks prior. We were seated at 8:30 and received our food at 9:34. Kitchen ran out of two entree choices. The plate presentation was sloppy and hurried. Food was good, not great. Specialty cocktails were great! I spent most of the evening feeling sorry for our wonderful server. Really nice tall young man who had to deal with the failure of the back-of-the-house. He was empathetic and professional under the pressure. Food: hit and miss. Bacon Mac and cheese is decadent and flavorful. Steak: needs much more on the sear, and more finishing butter/sauce as well as salt. Potatoes drastically under seasoned. Thai salad has good bones but the vinaigrette needs mire oomph, specifically more citrus and I think ginger, Plus for the size of the salad, it needs to be mixed together as the ingredients are way too layered. Fetrucini dish was flavorful and unbroken but the chicken served out of sauce was dry. Service was relatively attentive but in a time of Covid I'm not sure how much more I could expect.
