Excellent cocktails and dinner while visiting good friends in Albany. I had an excellent martini and my friend had a rosemary lime cooler that I tried, also very good. For an appetizer, we tried the French Dip Crostata, which was a unique item of sauteed meat, mild horseradish-y sauce in a flaky pastry. Very tasty and different. For dinner I had the Grilled Hangar Steak salad - it was very delicious - I especially liked the generous portion of crispy onions on top. Totally disappointed in the Vault tonight. The service was the slowest I've ever experienced. We waited an hour for a drink because "there's only one bartender" and when we asked how long the food was going to take because we were going to just leave, we were told 20 min. This turned into 35 min. When it did arrive, the food was very good with the exception of the wedge salad, which was less than average. Altogether we were here for over 2 hours and although we expressed frustration, were never offered anything to compensate us. When she brought our change the server said , "please come back when it's not so busy". Seriously? Guess that means it's our problem for coming at a time they don't provide good service and for good reason. Ugh. read more

We visited Vault 244 for our anniversary. We sat outside on a pleasant evening. Our service was great and the food was delicious. The only reason for a four star was that they are next to a gym of some sort and the patrons of the gym who were running around the block actually ran through the tables. read more

Three of us visited last night and had another wonderful meal. We've been several times before and have never had a bad meal. But last night it was the service that stood out. Our server, Mark, looked like he was taking care of 6-8 tables and yet he did it with such efficiency and ease we never felt neglected or fawned over. He brought our food and drinks when they were ready, checked back often to see if we needed anything and didn't rush us when we were finished and just wanted to chat. Very pleasurable experience. Very expensive regular menu, but I've been about five times for the happy hour menu. It's not really "happy hour prices"... more like regular restaurant prices. Very high quality, and this more valuable menu is just that... more valuable. I have had mixed service- sometimes it's quick and speedy, other times it takes 30+ minutes to get the bill after we've finished eating. One of the very few "fancy" places to eat in Albany. The food here was excellent. Every single thing we ordered was absolutely perfect and made with great care and attention. Unfortunately, the service was awful. Our server Ryan seemed very annoyed that we were there. He also seemed to have little experience in the service industry and little desire to be in the service industry. He held plates and called out the dishes instead of handing them to the people that ordered them. He never refilled our water glasses. Never asked us for another cocktail or drink after our first or with our meal. We had to ask for silverware more than once. He never checked on us after we received our food. To say the food here is good would be grossly understating it. I've had just about everything on the menu and it is always exceptional. Behind the bar, Justin and Andrew put on a show. The only bar tenders I'm comfortable saying "Surprise me", knowing I'll get something new and fantastic. For desert, there is only one thing to say, "THE cookie"! Are you kidding me?!? We had the broiled blue cheese mushrooms finished with a balsamic reduction as an appetizer, various chicken dishes, all were prepared extremely well, stuffed chicken parmigiana, excellent. But probably the best thing was their house signature cocktails, mixologist Mark at the helm, a true master. The Oregon Manhattan, with a touch of chai tea was extraordinary. The best thing about the Vault is that they are open on Mondays. That, and their Caesar salad. Two problems with the Caesar though; one is it is served on one of those pretentious small rectangular plates in the whole leaf fashion so that sawing at the romaine causes it to fall all over the table. The other problem is getting the salad to arrive at the table at all. I have never been to a restaurant with worse service in my life. The very worst service. In my life. It's not that the two guys aren't nice; they are. And sometimes there's a young lady there who is also nice. When they get around to coming to the table. They have a magical way of walking right past the table - no water in the glasses, dirty dishes piled, a need for more drinks, and they keep walking. Destination is always the cash register. They cluster there. Had a steak here last Monday that was really delicious, perfectly done. But it sat in the window for so long it was cold. My wife and I sat on these high seats facing the bar and just watched our dinners sit there. And they weren't even busy. Am in Albany/Salem area alot on Mondays and really want somewhere to eat at other than Frankie's - though I like Frankie's - and I would like the Vault but every time I eat there I get mad and swear never to return. read more

A solid choice for a nice night out. The menu isn't huge but they have good variety and the menu changes periodically, so there's always something new to try. All depends on your server. Know that they limit your stay. Some servers tell you that when they seat you and some don't, making in awkward when you have built up a $90 dollar tab and then asked to leave. Drinks and food is fine. The experience can be found at other establishments with better customer service. I feel for the servers having to let customers know they need to leave so they can bring in new paying customers. Training of staff could be better to prepare people for the "you have used up your time limit" talk. The experience really says more about the owners and management rather than the servers. Used to be a go to for my many friends and me, now we pass and meet at some of the other places in downtown. Hope this helps those wanting to have a pressure free evening. read more

I REALLY like this place! It's one of those great combos of upscale meets unpretentious and comfortable. These people know how to cook a good steak. And the deserts and drinks are incredible. I see some complaints of slow service, and I will say I have experienced that at Vault in the past, shortly after they opened, but have been back a couple times since and they really have pulled everything together. I mean, it's not McDonald's, people. Your food takes a little while to cook. But as far as waiting for water or to even get acknowledged, that doesn't happen. Vault is definitely the best restaurant in Albany and is on par with the best restaurants in Corvallis. Definitely worth checking out. read more

I had a reservation here, drove 20 miles to the restaurant to be told my reservation would not be honored. When I asked how long it would be to wait, as I did drive 20 miles, I was told the whole restaurant was unavailable and was not serving food to minors even in the dining room. I do not recommend this restaurant, I am extremely disgusted by this establishment. Even if being showed to a table, your reservation can still be denied. The male host was rude and disrespectful. Well it was disappointing. We have been several times before but this was an off night. Service was slow and unsure. The meals were delivered 10 minutes apart. Our reservation was at 8p.m. We walked in the door at 8:02 p.m. The hostess approached us at 8:04 p.m. only to tell us "sorry you were late so we gave away your table" and that it was her "managers call." I asked how long they held tables & she said 5 minutes. Well, considering by the time the end of this conversation was over, it was 8:04, I was pretty upset. They did have an an open table outside so ended up seating us there. The waitress we had completely redeemed the whole evening, thus the 4 stars. Don't believe the hype . . . booyah. What a reputation this place has among our fellow 50-something's! With three teenagers, we've never had a good chance to give Vault 244 a try until tonight. Expectations were high walking in the door and we loved the comfortable but upscale atmosphere behind the "No minors allowed" entrance. Service was polite and pleasant and our table was nice. It was not particularly busy and the staff were quite attentive, so I think we caught them on a good night when they should be at their best. Disappointment crept in with the beer list. For the Willamette Valley, their beer selection was clumsy and minimal. Thirsty, I just couldn't find anything worthwhile. Maybe this is a wine lovers joint, judging solely by the length list of selections? More revenue in those $30+ bottles. The dinner menu beat back the disappointment. A nice selection of salads, tapas, and entrees and reasonable pricing. i found the fish tacos quite appealing, and we also ordered up the spinach artichoke dip. Service was timely, and we eagerly dipped knives in to spread the dip onto a nice selection of bread slices, chips, and carrot sticks. Bummer! Under the cheese was a lukewarm, oddly green purée with off-putting texture. Taste was, well, like blended spinach, mayo, and artichoke with a harsh dose of cumin. The fish tacos came soon after. A nice portion, two generous servings on flour tortillas, but the fish was a bland letdown. Average for an Applebee's. All in all, a nice atmosphere (5 stars) but mediocre food quality (3 stars) and pathetic beer selection (1 star). There's just too many alternatives that successfully balance atmosphere with quality so one and done for us. read more

I have been twice and loved it both times. They have a new Head Chef there that came from a good place in Salem so expect the food to get much better! As everyone knows the drinks at this place are Unbelievable. If you like Martinis you have found your place. There are so many delicious drinks here that are not only good flavor combinations but prepared to perfection. I believe my favorite is called a Fire and Ice, It has chili vodka and cucumber in it. Sounds strange but is amazingly refreshing and delicious. The food was good both times we went. It was my wife and I the first time and 4 of us the second time. I thought the portions were good and the food was prepared well. I am really looking forward to seeing what the new chef will do with the menu. The atmosphere is nice. I love the building and the decor. When the place is really hopping the front room can get too loud for my taste. The back room is much quieter and a more private feeling. The service was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. There was a mixup on our drink order but the waiter realized it was the wrong drink when he got it to our table and took it back and got us the right drink without us having to point it out. I appreciate servers that remembered what you ordered and are on the ball enough to realize they have the wrong thing in their hand. If I could change anything about the place I would move it to Corvallis and I would have it open later on Thursday-Saturday so I can enjoy more of their cocktails. read more

I have to downgrade my review of this restaurant. So sad, as I , we really liked it before. Yesterday we celebrated our wedding anniversary. My husband had made reservations a month ago. He also spoke in person with one of the servers/bartender who helped us abut 2 weeks ago when we went for appetizers. He reserved the table next to the fireplace. When we arrived it had two people sitting there, and then we were moved to,a tiny table in the back. We asked for a larger table next to us, but the server in a very rude and snotty manner told us in waiter terminology, we couldn't sit at any of the larger tables because they were reserved for a larger group. Two tables away, only two people were at a larger table. It was also freezing and drafty at that table. She said she would only move us to the very back room! Mind you we had a reservation for over a month! Eventually people arrived at one table, and then to another, but the third table had been vacated for a while,and no one sat there until right before we left. The food was less than good. My steak was not edible, and the so called garlic mashed potatoes were watery, not creamy and probably from a box. I couldn't chew the first 1/3 of the steak, full,of gristle. I returned it, ordered a slightly more expensive steak, with the scalloped potatoes y husband had ordered. There were two nice crunchy and creamy triangles, nice green beans. After a long time my new dish, with about four anorexic pieces of asparagus, a new small steak, and only one triangle as opposed to the two my husband got of the potatoes. The server never smiled, and mostly ordered us around, until it got close to when we would have to leave a tip... then she smiled and offered dessert... no not complementary it should have been fete such a bad experience. It took forever to arrive. Nothing to write home about either. The restaurant and the server made what. Should have been a nice anniversary dinner into a I'm going to bare it and grin even if I'm unhappy evening. No,apologies, no anything. Never again! What happened? This restaurant was a disappointment. We have so few good restaurants in the area. This place has nice ambiance except the noise level is so high that it is difficult to talk with the couple across the table from you. The service was awful. The wine came with the salad. The wine servings were very scant for the price of the glass of wine. One member of our group wanted to change their salad order after realizing it came with blue cheese dressing. No go, too late. No offer for a change of order. Service was very slow. In my opinion the salad wedges were not cold or crisp. My husband did like the prime rib. My tacos fell apart and seemed to have very little fish in them. The Gnocchi were good. Will not visit this establishment again. Too bad. read more
