Every Restaurant Week, I'm on the hunt for the most exciting menu and VAS Kouzina's spread caught my eye this year. Instead of the typical 2-3 dishes, they offered a whole range of options. The experience was great. We sat outside on a quiet patio, tucked away from the busy main street. The lighting could use a boost, but it had that cozy, date-night vibe. Jeremy, our server, was friendly, knowledgeable, and even managed to get me to try a few things I hadn't planned on. If you go, ask for him! This place is pretty good! Their dishes are tasty, the decor is cute, and the service is great. The parking can be a struggle, but that's just the entirety of downtown Alpharetta. I will say I docked a star because I've had a different experience of this place before and I'm not sure about the consistency. I had the gyro and thought it was great, but was expecting a side with it. The prices are a bit steep in my opinion. The dips are the key. You should definitely try. It's a great spot for the summer, so I expect it to be busier then. read more

VERY disappointed with my visit to this VAS Kouzina location. The ambiance, staff, and location were all fine, my issue was the food. I ordered the Mussels citrus ouzo and was served mussels that were not opened and if you didn't know, unopened mussels are unsafe to eat, as they were dead before they were cooked. So, I alerted the wait staff and was told that this wasn't their norm and that they would only charge me for part of the meal (since I ate a few of the opened ones before noticing all of the closed ones)... but really!? You serve me poor quality and hazardous food AND you still charge me?!? That speaks volumes to me and is a sign to keep searching for an authentic Greek spot. read more

A fantastic Greek food eatery that is in a wonderful location. Our friends invited us to this location for a lunch time get together. I personally love Greek food so I was excited to try this out. The place has a very nice feel to it... the inside is sharply decorated and the vibe is modern Greek all the way. There is a covered small patio that is nice on a good weather day as well. Our waiter was out standing.. busy but attentive for sure... always around to answer a question or fill up a water glass. He was very kind, engaging, and served us very well. As an appetizer we ordered the saganaki (a cheese dish that they set on fire right at the table) and the octopus. Both were outstanding! The octopus was very tender, you could cut it with a fork, and it had a fantastic lemony flavor. Truly one of the highlights of our meal. The kids loved the flaming cheese... especially the flaming part. I love gyros so I ordered the gyro plate with Greek fries. My wife had the risotto. My gyro was stuffed full of meat and the Tzatziki sauce was mind blowingly good! I got to try my wife's scallop risotto and it was outstanding as well. It was full of flavor and richness. Our friends ordered the red snapper which when served is whole and then they debone it right there at the table. It is a site to behold. I got a little taste of the snapper and man it was delicious. H and I ventured up to Alpharetta because we had heard of this beautiful Greek restaurant. We grew up in a town where many of our friends' parents were chefs/owners of Greek restaurants so we're pretty familiar with Greek cuisine. It really is lovely inside and the service was friendly and attentive. We were only there for lunch so we didn't try their whole fish preparation, but will definitely order that when we visit for dinner. The entire menu is available at lunchtime so you can go lighter with salads or heavier with the Greek specialties. I always order the lemon chicken soup when trying a new Greek place and this did not disappoint. The portion is huge so ask them to split it for you. Creamy, lemony, with nice chunks of chicken meat. Perfect IMO. H ordered the gyro and fries and really enjoyed his meal. The gyro meat was so good . . . Tender, juicy, and so flavorful. I ordered their pastitsio and it was some of the best I've ever had. The bechamel was deliciously creamy and the beefy pasta was tasty. The tomato sauce was especially good. I highly recommend this dish! Went back to VAS Alpharetta. The food was ok but certain dishes are honestly a bit overpriced. The not so jumbo Shrimp Saganaki is $28!! It has to make sense. The octopus this time was not as good and tender. The gyro plate should have had more meat. Service was ok, so were the ambience and the drinks. Based on this last experience I don't know if I would go back. I feel that they still do a better job at the Roswell location. read more

I love Greek food as it takes me back to my time in Mykonos and Santorini. Vas Kouzina is a traditional Greek restaurant with all of the authentic dishes offered. My girlfriend and I went out for a Friday night dinner and were promptly seated upon arrival. They offer indoor and covered outdoor seating but we opted for indoor since it was wet and rainy weather. Our waiter was very friendly and offered good service. We started with the ouzo lemon drop cocktail and they were strong and very lemony! Definitely recommend it. My friend had the traditional Greek moussaka which is like a lasagna and I had the beef and lamb gyro. It was delicious but came with the smallest serving of tzatziki sauce so I asked for extra and it was $2 lol. Our waiter also offered us carrots and celery? while we wait and I thought it was complimentary but they charged for that too lol. We were looking to try a new place in Alpharetta. In reading the reviews, it was mixed. And, oddly enough, I agree. The food is good, but the pricing is a la carte, which makes it pricey. I was also very disappointed with the portion sizes of the salads. We had several orders that paired a full pita with an entree salad; the salad was side-salad-sized. I was also disappointed with the lack of a kids menu. Ambiance - super cute place. Patio is very nice. Parking is a pain, but that's normal for the area. This is a great Greek restaurant that took over the space previously used by My Stir Fry. We came in for a Friday lunch, and tried a bunch of different items. The trio dip appetizer was really good, and much bigger than it looks in person. I would definitely get the spicy feta and hummus again (didn't love their version of eggplant dip). I have to rave about their pita points. Normally, I just expect cut up pita bread at Greek restaurants, but they cook theirs in spices and olive oil. You could just eat them by themselves and still enjoy them. The fried goat cheese was very tasty, as well as the lamb souvlaki and Greek orzo. The baklava cheesecake was just okay- it was pretty cold, so they likely had just taken it out of the freezer. It's slightly on the pricey side for lunch (there is no separate lunch menu). The chicken was so tender that melted in your mouth, pita was nice and flavorful and the ingredients super fresh. We had the humus too which was the best! VAS Kouzina is one of our daughter's favorite places to go and we took her there last night for her 12th birthday. The service was excellent, and the food was amazing as always. We tried a few new things and were not disappointed. We love the spicy feta dip and my daughter always gets the shrimp skewers. We also tried the Greek bruschetta and the roasted cauliflower side, which were excellent. My husband always gets the gyro and it's his favorite out of all the places to get a gyro in our area. The manager came by and asked us how our meal was and we raved but declined his offer for dessert since we were all so full! As we walked out, he handed us a to go bag and said the birthday girl should have some dessert at home. In it were some little baklava bites and some other sweet delicious thing that was like a type of doughnut, but I don't know what it's called.. I have been searching for a place that serves moussaka and pastitsio and found both at Vas Kouzina! We arrived for an early Saturday dinner and was seated promptly; the hosts and server were both very nice. Since it was our first time going the server explained the menu to us and was very patient as we took our time looking over the menu. For our starter, we got the trio of dips. My husband ordered the gyro for his entree and I ordered the pastitsio. Spread/Pikilia - we picked three spreads for $15.99. We tried the melitsanosalata (eggplant spread), tirokafteri (spicy feta spread), and skordalia (garlic spread). If you order a single serving of spread, it comes with one pita cut into points but if you order the trio it comes with more than just one (I think three). We loved the eggplant spread and will be ordering a double serving of it next time we go!! It was light, herby, and a nice contrast when paired with the warm toasty pita. The spicy feta is a mild spice and our second favorite. The garlic spread good and worth trying if you love garlic and potatoes. Gyro (traditional shaved lamb and beef): he thoroughly enjoyed this! I had a good amount of tzatziki sauce and veggies in it and the pita was soft. Note: this does not come with a side so you would have to order that separately. Pastitsio: lived up to my dreams of trying this dish! The meat sauce was well balanced - not acidic and not too sweet. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the portion size was enough for me to take some home for lunch the next day! We left Vas Kouzina already planning what we would order next time we go! I can be your gyro, baby! Oh my oh my - the food at Vas Kouzina will make you want to throw your dishes on the floor and yell OPA! Just make sure the plates are empty first because you will not want to waste a single drop of this food! Greek cuisine is one of my absolute favorites - if not my favorite - and the food at Vas is top notch. We always passed the location in Roswell, but it is not until this baby opened up in Alpharetta that we stopped by. Traditional downtown Alpharetta parking rules apply so plan accordingly. The space is beautiful with ocean decor and hues of blue everywhere. We placed a large takeout order and sat on the comfy bench by the entrance as we waited. The smells were captivating! The food was actually so good we returned within a week or so for round 2! We ordered the following: Tzatziki $7.49 Keftedes $8.49 Grilled Octopus $16.99 Spanakopita $9.99 Grilled Vegetables $9.99 Pastitsio $13.99 Moussaka $15.99 Classic Gyro $11.29 Baklava $8 The gyro was out of this world flavorful and juicy. The gyro here resembles more of slices of meatloaf, than it does the slices of gyro from the rotisserie. I was skeptical at first glance, but one bite and I was in heaven. Gyro meat piled high and all the fixin's. Speaking of fixin's - the tzatziki at Vas is the best I've been able to get at a restaurant. Vas is not afraid to pack in the garlic which is just how we like it. Some places season it so mildly it just tastes of yogurt - not at Vas. It is intoxicating. We always order extra - it is a non-negotiable for us when we order here. It is great on everything, even just your fingers! The spanakopita is another of our favorites - super flaky and moist and really delicious. Obviously dunk it in the tzatziki. The moussaka and pastitsio both warm your soul in the most delicious way. Everything we ordered was really quite satisfying! See I got so excited I ALMOST forgot to share about the octopus. Please, do yourself a favor and order enough so you don't have to share. Chargrilled taste, perfect amount of acid, phenomenal cook. This octopus is perfect. My only complaint is that one order doesn't come with all 8 tentacles. It is a pricey addiction I have with this dish, but one I am sure I will never stop ordering. You really cannot go wrong with anything your order at Vas. My order has consistently been correct, fresh, and oh so flavorful. Lots of potential here--and certainly a slightly more expanded menu than most Greek restaurants in the area--but definitely some misses when it comes to the bill. First, the good: Again, they've got a great menu with all of the expected classics, as well as some very appealing options that are not usually offered elsewhere. The pita bread is excellent, which, of course, is a part of many Greek dishes, so, the quality can easily help or hurt the overall dish. Most of our dishes were delicious, served quickly and of decent value. The service was very attentive and friendly. Now, the bad: I'm sorry, but they are clearly taking advantage of an area that is desperately striving to be "upscale," and that unfortunately means pretending to not notice what some things cost. In particular: $9 for Greek fries. Really? And we're not talking about an order that's big enough to share...and they don't come with the gyro, so there's not a lotta choice with what you're gonna do. $3.25 for soda water in a glass. REALLY? Even if it was an actual flavored drink or a bottle of soda/sparking water, that's still a bit much...but it's completely excessive for carbonated, non-branded water! This actually brought some attention to everything else we ordered. So, yeah, now that we are re-examining the meal, $12 for a gyro might be a bit high, especially if (a) it's not PACKED with meat and/or (b) the meat is far from the very best you've ever had. So, VAS Kouzina, it was fun to check you out, but, we won't be back, or a least not as long as it feels like you are trying squeeze a few extra bucks out of a community that either can truly afford to not notice this stuff, or it's too embarrassed to mention it. read more

Wow! What a disappointment. My first and last visit to Vos was to enjoy their Valentine's Day offering with my loving Bride. I am a Business Man and understand exactly why people open restaurants. Profit is the driving force of any enterprise. A great restaurant will make you feel like the food and the experience are the drivers. Vos didn't even come close. Of course Valentine's Day is high volume juggling act but a great place can make it seem like the greatest night of the year for their guests not the most profitable night for themselves. The fixed price menu had many options for the proud price of $80 per person. We started with the Tirokafteri, spicy feta & red pepper spread. The spread was very nice and was, for us, the highlight of the meal. The accompanying pita was inconsistently prepared with some pieces hard and dry while others where soft and warm. The serving of the Tirokafteri was extremely generous and far exceeded the quantity of pita served so we enjoyed an additional serving of pita for an additional charge. My Wife and I both ordered the Traditional Greek Salad which had a gigantic slice of Feta. The salad was what we expected and nothing special. We both ordered lamb chops, her's with a fried lobster tail and mine without. The fried lobster tail was an interesting prep choice and probably the safest bet when trying to produce in volume. The size of the tail was what you would expect from a kitchen run by an accountant. The lamb chops where something else entirely. As my order was chops only, I was served 3 pieces of 2 bone sections each which I ordered medium done. My Wife was served 2 pieces of lamb, ordered medium, with her lobster tail. Of the 5 pieces we received three where cooked well done and two where medium. All five pieces where over charred and tasted not only burnt but under seasoned. The chops where dredged in dry herbs as you would expect but that appeared to be it with little or no other seasoning. The result was terribly disappointing. For us a Greek place that can't get grilled lamb chops right is reason enough for two stars or less. Oh, I almost forgot that the timing was completely out of whack but understandable given the holiday rush, I guess. We waited about twenty minutes between our salad and our main course. Our Server walked past and looked at us nervously quite a few times as we waited. This gave us plenty of time to admire the ambiance of the place. The lighting at our table was harsh white light and made us feel like we where in an operating room. The interior design was pretty uninspired which is not that big a deal but it is only fair to comment on that portion of the experience. The lamb chops where served with Yukon Gold Mashed Potatos , an Interesting choice of a side and an obvious pick by an accountant. I love accountants and my wife is an accountant but they shouldn't be making the menu and portion decisions for a fine restaurant. The constancy of dish was spot on. Not Grandma's thanksgiving mash but mashed from a'l dente cooked spuds and was just right. The bummer was that the servings we had contained no detectable seasoning what so ever. What a missed opportunity for something special. Again, maybe two stars is generous? Our desserts arrived quite promptly after our main was cleared. My Wife ordered the Loukoum which she liked. I ordered the Baklava Cheesecake since those are two favorites or mine and I wanted to see how the combined them. My serving looked to be plated in a hurry and was way off on one side of the plate and ungarnished in any way. I didn't order this for the presentation and I was not disappointed by an excess of effort. The dessert was very good. A layer of cheesecake like filling was placed between layers of filó dough which was just as I had hoped. Before we had finished our desserts and without an offer of coffee our Server silently and somewhat sheepishly placed our bill on the edge of the table and disappeared quickly. I have paid thousands of dollars for fine dining experiences which always seemed like a fare exchange for the perceived value received. Our dinner at Vos was not one of those experiences. With two glasses of Greek wine at $10 per for my Wife and a $5.99 Mocktail for myself we checked out for $245. There was a 22% gratuity automatically added to the total for what was worth less then a standard 15% which I would have given on my own for such a lackluster performance. If you add on the lemon potatoes , only enough for 1, they were 8.99. So, $22.99 for a small sandwich and not too tasty potatoes. The tzatziki appetizer was 9.99 the tzatziki sauce was good but they only gave you a small amount of pita and each extra one was 1.49. Now to the dessert. ... The Baklava Cheesecake was12.00. It was old and hard and sickening. For 7 of us with 5sandwiches, 1 overcooked hamburger 6 sodas, I tasteless shrimp dish, 2 tzatziki bread appetizers with 2 extra pitas oh, and a very good slice of carrot cake. Tip included $299.50. We had a reservation today at the Alpharetta location for Mother's Day. The reservation was for four adults and one high chair for a child. When we were headed to the square table we saw it was set for 3 adults and a high chair. No problem, right? Except for this staff it apparently was! I was asked by the hostess "who made this reservation?" My friend had not only made the reservation but confirmed her exact reservation. The hostess proceeded to scold her on how she made the reservation wrong and should have said 5 adults! Really you are going to scold someone in front of their entire party and other diners coming in? So Incredibly rude and unprofessional! There was no, "hi .. happy Mother's Day, welcome to our restaurant!" Instead a lecture on how to make a reservation! So the table was wrong? Not a big deal at all. We asked to move one table over. It was a rectangular table set for four that could have easily had a high chair added to the end which would have been even more out of the way for more incoming guests. No!!! Then the manager came over and clearly told us again, no! We can't move seats!!! Ok, look, we weren't asking to sit at a 6 top or to move outside or anything that would mess up your reservation system. We asked to move one table over to add the high chair away from traffic at the end and not have an adult sit at the corner of a square table. A four top for a four top!! No!!! They wouldn't even consider it!! What's even more ridiculous is when the people came to sit at that table that was set for four adults, they only had three adults and needed a high chair!!!!! Omg that's what we had! Sure seems like someone taking reservations messed up and may need a reservation scolding.. and it shouldn't have been us! I have done many reviews on yelp! I love nothing better than to give a great review, but this manager and hostess were so nasty which is absolutely unacceptable to patrons who are coming in to spend money at your restaurant! The friends we dined in with had eaten at the Roswell location before and had such nice things to say. So word to the wise... skip Alpharetta and their unfriendly, rude and impolite hostess and manager and eat at the Roswell location instead!!! I experienced true Greek cooking with a modern flair at the newest location of @vaskouzina. They have two locations: downtown Roswell and the newer, larger location in Alpharetta. As soon as you walk in you are transported to Greece with the music, the ambiance, and the food. Whole fish are sitting atop ice for your choosing as you walk to your table. Such a great spot for a date night or to take your out-of-town friends. I was most impressed by the Saganaki which is a flaming cheese that literally comes out on fire and the chargrilled Lavraki which is a whole mediterranean sea bass that is deboned tableside by the chef! You have to check this place out. The layout is absolutely beautiful. I love that you can do a little shopping before or afterward at the in-store market that is stocked with Greek oils and other essentials to elevate your at-home meals. The baklava bites and cheesecake for dessert was the icing on top! This was some of the freshest seafood that I have ever had. While the servers and service was lovely. When we walked into the main dining area there was an intense chemical cleaning product smell it was a turn off for me but my husband really wanted Greek food, so I decided to disregard it. Food was okay, pricey for the portions. If you are dining with children you'll be asked if you want a high chair BUT they don't have changing tables in their bathrooms. The gyro had very little meat and having had gyro in so many places, I'm pretty sure it wasn't homemade and frozen. Everything is a la cart and it gets too expensive for what you get. The lemon potatoes were actually pretty good but small portion. Also the servers kept trying to take our plates before we were finished. It was very strange, almost like they needed the plates and were short. Also the soft drinks were veeeery slow in getting refilled. I asked one young lady for a refill and either she didn't understand me or just plain forgot. Lastly, if management is reading this, please turn down the volume! My husband and I were looking for an upscale Greek restaurant because we were disappointed in a one that we used to live in Buckhead. After doing some research we decided to try Vas Kouzina in their new location in Alpharetta. The atmosphere was clean bright and inviting. It had a classic Greek menu with some nice additions. We were informed by our waiter that it is a meze place and that the dishes are designed to share. He was super personable and helpful with his suggestions. We ordered 3 dips, a Greek salad, spanakopita, a whole fish, the potato's, chicken souvlaki and the grilled vegetables. Everything came out warm and delicious. The chef owner Vasilios came out to personally debone the fish and he explained how he cooked it and what went into it. We told our waiters that we were celebrating our anniversary and they brought out celebratory champagne and dessert. Every one made us feel like family or good friends. One of the best restaurants in Alpharetta! The service is consistently excellent and we really enjoy sitting at the bar and chatting with Stone. My favorites are the Sea Bass and Spinach/beet salad. I can't give 5 stars for two reasons. Their octopus is not as good as I've had at other Greek restaurants and the portion size of their sides is quite small. read more

We used to go here quite often but haven't been in over a year. The last couple of times service wasn't great. I had asked for a taste of a particular wine in order to decide if I wanted a glass and was refused. Pretty pricey for subpar service. Food is fine. read more

I tried this place for lunch. I was charged $2 for a tablespoon of tzatziki sauce and it was basically sour cream, not authentic. I've had better food from a drive through. Idk how they have two locations but the lamb was not tender and I had no where to park. Sorry for being all over the place but I'm just leaving this review on my lunch break. read more
