Flatlands is one of those places we've been back to multiple times. The catfish nuggets are a MUST for me every time! The sauce on them is so good and honestly one of the main reasons I keep ordering them. We also had the oysters this time and really enjoyed those as well. I ordered the Catfish Pontchartrain to go and it was good too. Their drinks are always great, and I love that you can get cocktails to go. Service was amazing during this visit. Finally tried Flatlands last night and it was very good. Was recommended by friends from New Orleans, so figured it should be pretty good! It's a quaint old house on Main St., very cozy, lots of rooms for plenty of customers. Our server was spot on too. I ordered the Seared Salmon with the sweet potato risotto and asparagus. Our server was very nice and answered all of our questions. We got the crab dip to start and it was flavorful and a great start to our lunch. My friend ordered the gumbo and said it was very good with a good kick. I got the crawfish mac n cheese which was delightful and a perfect portion in my opinion. Recently in town so we stopped by for a quick lunch. I did not remember the food being so salty. Yeah cajun food is supposed to be well seasoned. But this was beyond that. Not one dish but all the dishes were overly salty. We got half chargrilled oyster and half Rockefeller oyster. Both were salty but the rockefeller was a sorry excuse to be even called that. We had a small group at Flatlands and overall the experience was nice. The aesthetic is definitely divey, hole in the wall with a mystic feeling that mildly represents New Orleans. I do think the decor is a bit run down but it can add to the charm. The food was good not great, some parts of my dish were over seasoned and a tad overcooked. My husband discovered this restaurant while looking for a place to eat lunch, and we decided to stop in for some authentic Cajun food. The service was good and attentive throughout our visit. We started with the alligator bites (not pictured). While they were fresh, we found them a bit dry and lacking in flavor. Next, we tried the Oysters Rockefeller, and they were absolutely delicious--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Both my husband and I really enjoyed them. The atmosphere was stunning! A small old house turned into a restaurant. We had a work party of 10 and we sat upstairs in the loft area. We really had the place to ourselves. They were not busy and certainly not crowded. The waiter was good.. attentive and there when we need him. The food was outstanding! Truly heavenly! The red fish, pork loin, crawfish, gumbo, and catfish all looked just as stunning and everyone raved about their dishes. I'm telling you the food is outstanding! Then we moved on to desert. Pecan pie with a touch of whisky, bread pudding done expertly, beignets both stuffed and regular... it was all just the fantastic end to a wonderful meal. Then came the bill... after all we ate... and drank... the bill was just over 800... really not bad at all. But then they came and said that the min for a part of ten was 1400... not including tip or tax!!! WTF?!? We were all stuffed and had eaten just about all we could! I mean we ordered 6 aps, entrees for each, 6 deserts, most people drank... but we were 600 short of the ridiculous min! I mean this worked out to 140 per person?!? I have never been to a place that did this... in the beginning they would not budge on the difference. They wanted to charge us an extra 600 on top of the 800+ we had already eaten! after some discussions they finally allowed us to include tip and tax but we were still 400 short. We ended up ordering some Papi at $85 a glass, for a couple of our coworkers, to get us to the needed total but I'm telling you this place blew it. I work for a company that does events all the time... from in location dinners to catered events... what they made us spend that night cost them 100x more in future business. Our last event we planned ran over 3000 at the last place we ate and we do several of those a year! Before all the craziness I was considering coming again with an even bigger group and even having them cater our next event. Not anymore. In fact I won't be back. The food was awesome... service was good and the location stunning... but due to a crazy unrealistic expectation of spend and a very unfortunate rigidity of policy they really lost out on what could have been a huge amount of future business. The palace pecan beignets are the BEST! I'd drive to Alpharetta from The west side just for them! Everything else pales in comparison. The parking is limited and can get busy during peak meal times. I am so glad we stumbled upon this place and gave it a try! They do Louisiana-style cooking very well, and you will not be disappointed with their flavors or the wide variety of entrées on their menu. Our group ordered the shrimp and andouille pasta, the perfectly seared salmon, and one of their signature salads, and we were all very pleased with our meals. I ordered the salmon, and it was cooked to perfection--super crispy on the outside but soft, flavorful, and moist on the inside. It was evenly cooked throughout, which some restaurants struggle with, but definitely not this one. It was served with a brown sugar and sweet potato risotto, which complemented the salmon perfectly, and also had asparagus on the side, which, no surprise, was cooked perfectly as well. We opted to try the beignets for dessert and added their praline stuffing, which elevated a classic beignet into the most decadent dessert you can imagine! My understanding is they rotate the beignet stuffing regularly with new flavors, so there's always something new to try. We sat outside on the porch and had great, friendly service. While in Alpharetta GA last night, looking for something good to EAT, I stumbled upon this gem. Since I was alone I sat at the oba to have dinner. The bartender recommended their Jambalaya. If you do not like spicy food stay away. I love spicy food, and it was delicious. The hostess "Chris" recommended THE BEST ever bread pudding. OMG! It was warm, sweet to perfection, 10 out of 10. Parking space is very limited, I had to find parking spot at back street. The service was courteous, we sat outdoors at cute small pavilion with tree cover. We ordered few typical Creole food: Gumbo, Jambalaya, Crawfish Étouffée, Shrimp Andouille, plus half dozen of Gulf Oysters and Rockefeller Oysters. Gumbo: they don't serve seafood gumbo, from the looks and taste I guess it's Cajun style gumbo since the base didn't seem to have tomato and it's spicier; Jambalaya: it's the andouille sausage version, I hope they can make seafood version of Jambalaya as well, the taste of seafood Jambalaya is very close to Paella; Crawfish Étouffée: the look and taste of the gravy were almost same as gumbo except it's thicker, don't get me wrong, I liked it, should I know it, I would order Crawfish Étouffée only; Shrimp Andouille: I liked the smoky flavor from chunks of famous andouille sausage, red beans tasted very soft. I went here in November of '24 for a work trip and it was SO delicious. The asparagus was good but the jambalaya was beyond incredible. My coworker got a bigger dish but neither of us could finish our meals! Super delicious but also super filling. It was warm for late November so we sat outside and we were glad to have! I myself had the seafood risotto which was ok as it was very bland and not at all hearty and filling like risottos that I'm used to. It had salmon broken up in pieces into it, small bites of crawfish and shrimp, which the dish lacked flavor and seasoning. The rest of my party had the salmon and shrimp pasta which they enjoyed. I had a vintage old fashioned drink which I didn't see the waitress to get a straw but that would have been nice to have so I could sip my drink.
