Perfect place to go to on Friday night after listening to the entertainment at Avalon. Host gave a friendly welcome even though we did not have a rezy. Ordered the $10 special blackberry margarita! Started out with the baked brie that comes out hot in a little cask iron pan with honey and pita bread. Perfect for 2 to share. On the menu was a Grouper sandwich but I ordered it without the bun! Melissa our very nice server had no problem with changing a dish. Worried that it would be just a piece of fish with slaw on the side.. but not disappointed- check out my pic. This was my first visit here and most definitely not the last.Decided to come here for my birthday. As soon as I came inside the greater was right there waiting for me. I did have reservations not sure if it was necessary but none the less I had them. While waiting for my husband to park the car the greeter/waiter let me take a look at the menu.They had bar seats available as well as a closed in patio. I decided to utilize the patio, I told the greeter not to forget about us. lol At the time we went it was not very crowded. There were quite a few people but not overwhelming. There were nice animal pictures on the wall,maybe the head of a bison was there. Lots of Liquor behind the bar on display and part of the decor. The doors were a little decorated for the holiday.Big wooden doors. The patio did have televisions there but they were low so if I wanted to hear I couldn't. There was a football game on so we kinda looked at it from time to time. Even though it was my birthday the restaurant didn't do anything for me. No deserts, no happy birthday, no cheers!!, nothing like that. When celebrating a birthday I look forward to small things like that if a restaurant offers it. I ordered a cucumber martini. Didn't like it so we know we wont be ordering that again. The food was ok, nothing to complain about there. I don't know why I didn't take a picture but I had the B&B Burger with smoked bleu cheese. First time tying this spot after leaving an outdoor concert on the green tried this at the recommendation of a friend who loves the scallops. The interior is similar to a wine cellar and the ceiling panels resemble a wine barrel along with a very rustic bar. Our server Melissa was super nice and suggested the most popular options. I tried the blacked grouper and substituted my fries for the Brussels which had the best char. The sandwich had a nice balance of heat and was great. It was rather late so I took half home. It was so great I brought my daughter back the next day for her to try the blackened salmon sandwich. Friday night was Chile while Saturday even at 5:30 it was busy and seemed to get packed quickly and service did take a lil longer. Pretzel trio app wasn't bad, but the beef brisket and its sides were not very appetizing

Used to be one of my fav spots. Would take my team here for happy hour. Im never one of discrimination, but this was pretty hard to deny. Walked in with my family. Stood at the front for 5 minutes. There was family of 5 in front of us and they were seated immediately. We remained to stand. Server walked up with no apology. No greeting or anything. I had to greet her. She finally sat us in a back corner. Outside. We then sat there for 15 minutes. Watching new tables get sat, my wife had time to change our newborn, and come back and still get agitated by the amount of time. We saw other ethnicities all come in and get immediate service. To the point where we just got up and left. No one even noticed. I went in and spoke with the manager, Lee, who was just like "oh sorry, it's not what it looks like. Said he was outside and his server got busy." But didnt do anything to rectify the situation or try and earn our business. We also saw many other tables come in and get served and waters immediately. Like they were relieved we left. We've spent a lot of money here. Did previous reviews. On our channel as well at CDeatsAtlanta. Ive done thier fish and chips. It was quite crowded on a late Saturday afternoon, but we nabbed the last two seats at the very end of the bar. I liked the back of the bar with whiskey barrels, it felt like going into an old time pub. A little bit dark, but homey. Bartender was super engaging and friendly, major points for that. We ordered the B&B cobb salad with grilled steak skewers, jalapeno candied bacon, eggs, avocado, tomatoes, bleu cheese & horseradish ranch. Excellent salad, though it was quite heavy with egg, bacon, bleu, and ranch. The brisket poutine was excellent, with braised brisket and hand cut fries topped with bleu cheese, diced tomatoes, and green onions. Fried were fresh and super crispy. Juicy, well seasoned brisket too. For a drink I tried a Tropicalia, an amazing local IPA from Athens, GA. Very well balanced, not too fruity, not too hoppy. Great recommendation from the bar. Salmon was perfect. I need to figure out the recipe for these potatoes. They were very well seasoned and the entire dish had a nice home away from home taste to it which was nice to have while entertaining clients out of town. I'd like to thank the chef for completely cooking the asparagus, something I've found so many restaurants have a hard time getting right. My wife had them Honey Bourbon glazed Center Cut pork Chop with Cream corn and Greens. She loved the home made cream corn always better than out of the can, Chop was cooked as she liked it and very tasty. We recently dined at Branch and Barrel and had a mixed but overall decent experience. We started off with the broiled Brie & strawberries appetizer, which was definitely something different. The hot honey drizzle added a nice kick, and it was served with warm pita. While the flavors were good, we were hoping for a bit more Brie--there was only a small amount compared to the generous amount of honey. For my entrée, I had the apple butter center cut pork chop, which was well-cooked and flavorful. It came with collard greens and sweet potato mash that had ginger mixed in. The pork chop was the highlight, but the sides didn't quite hit the mark. The ginger in the sweet potatoes didn't pair well with the rest of the dish, and the collard greens were a little too salty for my taste. Next time, I'd try it with different sides. My wife ordered the steak and fries, which also came with a small salad. Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked--it was supposed to be medium but arrived more like medium-well and was a bit chewy. She didn't love it and said she'd try something different next time, maybe the lamb burger. Service was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice, but a few tweaks in the kitchen could really elevate the experience. We'd consider going back to try some of the other dishes. read more

I came here for dinner with my family. Parking at Avalon is usually fine, just takes some hunting. I recommend parking in the deck/lot on the Whole Foods side. We were seated immediately when we arrived and got a spot on their heated patio which was nice. We ordered a few drinks and as a bourbon lover, I was a BIG fan of all the options they had available! I had an Espresso Manhattan which was pretty good and a fun twist on a Manhattan. My dad had a Smokin in the Cab which was so delicious and smoky. My mom had the Branch Berry which was probably my overall favorite. For appetizers, we got the broiled goat cheese which was so delicious and I adored the jalapeno peach chutney we got with it. For dinner, we tried a few things including the fried grouper, chicken sandwich, farmhouse burger, and I subbed a regular patty on their Impossible burger which came with goat cheese, smoked tomato jam, & arugula. The chairs outside are small & it was cold inside, which wasn't ideal when it was so lovely out, but my husband is a tall, bigger guy, so he didn't like the outside chairs. The server was excellent at recommending drinks I'd like and leaving out ingredients I don't like. I was here earlier today with a friend and our experience was not great. To be quite honest that seems to be a trend at Avalon restaurants in my opinion- they don't try as hard since they have guaranteed foot traffic regardless of whether or not they have positive reviews or word of mouth. This is perfectly encapsulated by the fact that a less than 4 stars avg business still had a lot of patrons at 1:30 in the afternoon. But I digress. We had to wait a long time here for basically everything (except for being seated.) Our meal ended up taking such a long time. It took our server a solid 10-15 mins to even approach our table to begin with. Drinks took a while to come out. Also, this place has no non-alcoholic drink options. Seriously? My friend and I didn't feel like drinking and wanted something other than water- we had to settle for mocktails. Looks like they don't serve dessert either. Menu needs work. Took a while for the food to come out and then took absolutely forever (!!!) for the check to come out. We had finished eating and were sitting there waiting because I was itching to leave and actually get dessert somewhere. We waited at least 20 minutes I'm assuming before I got up and found the host and asked him if I could get our checks (since I didn't see the server anywhere.) Mind you before I decided to get up, I tried to make eye contact with the server when I did see her. It didn't work, she was chatting with coworkers instead. Made me pretty mad... because umm hello I'm stuck here as a hostage until you let me pay so I can leave. I've never really had that issue before. Usually they're trying to get you out so they can make more on tips. I guess not today. Food was ok. Fries were alright, could use more flavor/seasoning. Burger was decent. Drinks were good. If I were this business- I'd work on improving customer service prontoooo and the menu options. Plus try adding more flavor to the food- very common finding in these reviews. If I were a person thinking of coming here to eat- I would go elsewhere. Flew into town and this restaurant was walking distance so I stopped in. The indoor section was incredibly loud that you could barely hear yourself think. Luckily I got seated at a table outside. My waiter was great and checked on me multiple times. The cocktails were delicious. The scallop entree was good and perfectly seasoned but the potatoes and sauté spinach were so salty. Toward the end of dinner two employees started rearranging the tables and instead of picking up the table and chairs they dragged them. It went on for about 13-15 minutes so I paid and left. Why they couldn't just wait until closing not sure. I'd definitely come back for a cocktail but not for the ambiance since there are so many other great restaurants near by. read more

My grandson had 2 Starters: Deviled Eggs and fried Shrimp. the deviled eggs were like cement. the outside was ice cold; the filling fell out and rolled around the plate like cement. It came with a sliver of bacon, that tasted like it was days old. Like old moth balls and greasy. You needed to use a fork and knife to cut it. The shrimp was all coated and the inside was cold. (Probably leftovers, just dumped in oil again) My potato soup was not even warm, even though I ordered it "Piping hot". My Lamb skewers were served with Cheddar grits. Again: almost cold and the grits were hard; I actually had to chew the grits!! I talked to the manager later on to inform him about this horrible food (I had another reservation the next night and canceled it) I talked to the manager by phone just now to let him know how disappointed I was and he only made excuses!!! That is the reason I am now reviewing this place. I would not have done this. I never complained before to any manager and expected an apology, not an excuse!! Parking You are lucky to get street parking so we ended up valet parking. Cost $15. About a block walk. Restaurant Branch and Barrel is a small restaurant. Dark decor, more of a bar atmosphere. We were seated at a 2 topper next to the door. Our waitress, forgot her name, was not rude, but was not the friendliest. We ordered the salt and vinegar fried Brussel Sprouts. I enjoyed them being fried, however, there was no taste of vinegar, but a salty taste. I ordered the Farmhouse Burger. I ordered the burger medium but it was well done, the egg was cooked perfectly and the fries were salty. A red sauce was served with the burger but had an unpleasant taste to me. I did ask for ketchup. The bread on the burger was the best. My spouse ordered the Scallop meal. We believe the chef dumped the salt on the entire plate. Enough said about that. My wife and I usually sit at the bar when we come in for lunch. The bar tenders are very attentive and knowlegable about their drinks and the menu. My favorite two items are the grouper sandwich and the salmon BLT. Both are consistent winners in my book, and in fact, when we've been out of town for a while, I need to come over here for one of these two sandwiches. The tiniest portion of scallops I have ever seen for a chef's special entree for $30. The side of three potatoes and a piece of spinach was crazy. My husband left starving. My chicken sandwich was tasteless besides the overpowering taste of dijonnaise instead of the bacon, cheese and mango in the description. Do yourself a favor and eat elsewhere in Avalon, downtown Alpharetta or Firebirds across the street. Their BLT salad was so much better than this one. This place is a regular stop for my wife and I on Sundays mid-afternoon. We usually get the same things. She gets the salmon salad. It has a nice slab of grilled salmon, artichoke hearts and mixed greens. She says she loves it. I get either the Salmon BLT or the grouper sandwich. both of these are excellent sandwiches. The Salmon BLT is grilled salmon, bacon, lettuce and tomatoes and maple aoili. Tasty! The grouper sandwich is my other go to sandwich. Fried grouper, slaw and some nice spicy sauce on there. Mmmm. That one is good too. Then I get sweet potato fries, done crispy with maple aioli dipping sauce. For drinks, she gets a Prince De Richemont which is a rose brut sparkler. She loves that and in fact we had to go buy some at our wine store off of winward. I get branch water, which is their house lager. I just like a regular beer - I'm not an IPA guy and I don't like odd flavors like grapefruit or chocolate in my beer. Branch water is just beer. It's good. Great place. I was so full off my meal and had plenty to take home with me. My friend has raved about how great the brussel sprouts were which I did enjoy them. They did taste a little too salty to me (which I love savory, salty foods) so that would probably be my only critique. B & B Burger: Comes with Barrel Smoked Gouda, Bacon Onion Marmalade & Arugula. This burger was banging!! The waitress didn't ask the temperature that I wanted and I forgot to tell her. But it came out medium, almost medium rare which was perfect!! It was so tender, juicy and flavorful! The bacon onion marmalade was soo good, I could have used a little more of it! Even the bun was tasty, regular and black sesame seeds. There were a few bites of it that tasted buttered and toasted. Yum!! Burger was served with fries. Nothing special but they were good. Not sure what the condiment was but it was ketchup based with maybe some vinegar? Salt & Vinegar Brussels Sprouts. The name sold me! Perfectly cooked. They had major crisp factor and were tender. They could have used a little more seasoning. I had salt and vinegar chips in my head so I was expecting bold flavor like that. Because it was a side dish for me I loved it! We have visited this restaurant so many times, but tonight's meal warrants a review. Per our server Melissa's recommendation- I had the Salmon baby kale salad with artichoke hearts, tomatoes and goat cheese with the most delicious lemon vinaigrette!! It was amazing! We rarely have dessert, but tonight we did. Melissa described the Ginger bread crème brûlée as not too sweet and the right amount of gingerbread. It was a treat for my tastebuds! Wow! been here before but this time the service was lacking. the server Chloe did not know what craft beer is, or was just being obstinate...? we asked for two irish coffee's which she replied we don't have coffee, then changed her answer when it was explained what Irish coffee is. she then brought two hot toddie's instead of the irish coffee! making a mistake is one thing, having an attitude about our orders is unacceptable. They are also jacking up your bill with a 4% charge when using credit cards. read more

The portions of food were generous, but the taste and quality was underwhelming. I did like the crispy Brussel sprouts- especially with their honey mustard, but we didn't enjoy the rest of our items. The brisket was tender, but the collard greens filled the entire dish with water- the dish as a whole was very bland. The grouper had way too much corn flour batter and the pimento cheese on the burger was too overpowering. I'd recommend eating elsewhere at the Avalon. read more
