We received a recommendation for Vargas Construction from a company that had come out to do some mold remediation for a leak we had in our laundry room. The mold remediation company removed the mold and damaged material, but we needed Robert (the owner) and Vargas Construction to make the room whole again. At the start of the project, Robert put together a detailed itemized quote for us and came by in person to discuss the project with us and meet us. I was very impressed with his professionalism and warmth - it's clear he places a high value on building relationships with his clients, which I really appreciated. He was able to get his team started working right away and they finished the project quickly (only 3 days, even with us adding some additional painting and finishing work to the scope). All of the work looks excellent! Throughout the entire project, Robert was very communicative and did an excellent job keeping us in the loop on what his team was doing and when they would be arriving next. To top it all off, I had made a mistake and provided Robert the wrong finish of paint for the ceiling (flat whereas the rest of the ceiling was painted with eggshell or semigloss). We hired Vargas construction for the second time already. This time we wanted to refinish hardwood floors in the living room and kitchen, install new floors in two other rooms, and renovate the kitchen and the pantry. We own an old house and wanted to preserve the original character, hence we requested refurbishing the existing cabinets rather than installing new ones. That included also replacing the countertops, cooktop, sink and dishwashing machine, painting the walls. The pantry needed to be fully repaired, including the removal of built-in shelves. All these projects were done with excellent quality. Our worn out kitchen floor looks like new, and the living room floor is stained beautifully. The refinished cabinets look very fresh, and the crew even refreshed the bronze handles to shine. The floors and the baseboards make these room look great. The shower work included expanding it into an old closet. We previously had a room addition done very nicely by Mr. Robert in 2010, and so it was a no-brainer to get back in touch with him when we wanted to remodel our kitchen and 2 bathrooms this year. Our experience with Vargas Construction was exceptional yet again. Before starting the job, they make it very clear what to expect. There were no surprises as our contract included an item-by-item cost breakdown and indicated which materials we were expected to provide. Definitely make sure you fully communicate your vision (including little things) to the contractor and that it's reflected in the contract, because that's what they will go by unless you explicitly say so. His team is hard-working and polite as well. They are able to work fast without compromising quality. Mr. Robert makes frequent inspections and will make something be redone if not done up to standard. They were also generous enough to pickup the materials we ordered from the warehouse. I hired Vargas Construction to repair the walls and flooring of a closet after mold remediation and to replace internal French doors with an extension of the wall already in place in another room. They did excellent work in drywall, painting and woodwork. Alberto was very prompt in his arrival each morning. He was also very polite and professional. Roberto and his team were able to remove all of the termite damaged wood, and replace the 12 foot rim joist. Most of our porch had to be demoed in order to get to the sill plate and rim joist. Had a number of contractors come out for my deck, screen room and other items I needed done. Roberto was the only one who listened to exactly what it was I wanted to accomplish and he made recommendation which I thoroughly liked. One star is being very generous. Yelp should introduce negative rating. Vargas construction Inc is very unprofessional. I got a call from lady at Vargas construction and set up an appointment with Robert for Saturday (5/15) at 10 AM to discuss the work I needed to get done. Robert did not show up on the specified date and time. When I circled back, I was told that the person who booked the appointment forgot to inform Robert regarding the appointment and she was out of town. She then asked me if I will be available after 1 PM the following week. I said yes. No response. Someone reached out to me on Thursday night asking if I would be available on Friday 2PM. I said yes. No one showed up on Friday. This time I sent a message to the Vargas construction stating this is an unprofessional behavior and I wouldn't want to do business with them. Then, someone named Luz claiming to be a CFO of the company reached out and stated that he would address the scheduling department's shortcoming where they did not follow through with their duties. Also, requested for another opportunity so that he can make sure Robert comes and takes a look at the project. That person also told that Robert would be available at 10 AM. When I finally agreed to meet Robert, I was told that Robert can meet me at 1 PM on Saturday (05/22). The day and time came and went no Robert, no response from Luz and no quote. Vargas Construction did a few projects for us in preparing our house for sale. We needed some deck rework, some railing rework, and some unknown amount of internal dry rot repair. Getting the projects started was difficult due to the varied discussions with multiple contractors and changing goals. At all times, Roberto (owner) was responsive and respectful. In the end, they had to work around painting and a tight opening day deadline, but all work was done well and on time. They also cleaned up well after their work at the end. In the end, the deck work involved removal and replacement of redwood decking on sleeper decks, including repair of leaks in the tar water barrier, repairs in the wood structure underneath, and new Metacrylics water proofing over all. Additional repairs of damaged wood included siding and underlying structural wood. They went out of their way, twice, to ensure a piece of siding would be as before, and not pieced together (required a special 10' panel). Their time and materials rates were fair and competitive, and their workers were diligent and cooperative. I will likely use them for two major deck replacements in the future. I had started working with Mancer (a local electrician/contractor in Fremont) to get a new AC condenser, high-efficiency furnace, and tankless water heater installed in my home last November. They demoed some of the existing walls and utilized an empty lot to build an 800 s.f addition to the existing house. They also remodeled both existing bathrooms by extending the master bathroom and upgrading the guest bathroom. New ceramic tiles of approximately 500 s.f and hardwood floors were installed in the new addition and existing part of the house. Other projects included installing 20 Led recessed light, upgrading the existing furnace, installing new tile over the front porch, replacing the existing water heater with a new noritz tankless heater, painting the interior and exterior part of the house and adding a new A/C split system unit. They also removed the exterior stucco and placed new exterior stucco throughout the house. Two new velux skylights were added in the hallway and in the study. The electrical main and sub panels were upgraded as well as the existing air duct system. They also made a new stamping concrete driveway that connected to a 4' wide walkway. In just a few words to summarize our experience working with Robert, it's been professional, high quality, collaborative, and delightful. Robert is a real problem solver and takes ownership of his work and initiative, such as sees things that the plans didn't point out and brings them to our attention for resolving. This was evident in a lot of things that weren't blocking him, but if it doesn't look right to him, he'll highlight it for us. Calling all (Montclair) Oakland hills residents!!!!! The people are Vargas construction are amazing. Initially, I took some estimates with other companies but something about the honesty and knowledge Robert had that made me decide to go with him. I needed a deck repaired but after talking to robert decided to replace the whole thing due to unseen, underlying damages. Robert and his crew basically transformed it from the basic 1938 style deck to somethjng you'd see in a modern high end restaurant. It's just amazing. Our project was quite complicated: we wanted to replace the galvanized pipes with new copper ones in our small bathroom upstairs in a hundred year old house where access to the pipes is quite tricky. Also, we wanted to put new floor and wall tiles. We chose to go with Vargas Construction after meeting with a few construction companies' representatives. Robert, the owner, assessed the project's scope and all the steps needed to be completed. His estimate was the best we got: it was properly itemized, and the payments' dates were indicated. The plumbing crew was great: they completed the job quickly and did everything in their power to replace the pipes without damaging the walls, which, again, was pretty challenging. We were impressed by the overall quality of work and the professionalism of all crew members: our small bathroom looks amazing with the new tiles, new toilet, and sink. The crews worked fast and left everything clean and neat. Shortly after that, I noticed the water was dripping from the pipe outside the house. Robert inspected the problem and found out that our old water heater was leaking and another old galvanized water pipe was broken.
