What a nightmare. We were starving after a day on the river and decided that mexican sounds good. We got there at about 830p and waited until 920p. In that time, we placed an order and ate all the chips n salsa. The place was only about a 1/3rd full. One party of 4 to our left up and left in exasperation. The party to our right rolled their eyes as the manager walked by, ignoring us again. They told us they had waited 10 minutes just for water. Several waitresses floated about, just wiping tables and looking defeated. The confused/ineffective manager frantically attended to frustrated patrons. The single waitress actually "serving" kept taking orders, and then pointing the manager to this table and that. We finally left the cash on our table for my margarita (which was not served with salt, as I had ordered, and mostly tasted like a cheap mix) and ditched the place. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Took my family here after a day in Glacier . Arrived about 45 minutes before closing time & hostess turned us away , saying they were not accepting any more customers.... Not many options around. First, we decided to give Vaquero a try after looking over their menu online. We noticed that they are still requiring masks due to the continuing worldwide pandemic so we thought they were being appropriately considerate and cared about customer safety. A sign at the entrance says masks are required. But the hostess was not wearing one. Many of the waitstaff were maskless and as I was facing the entrance when eating I saw group after group come in without masks and no one asked them to put them on. Their Yelp ad states that all tables were sanitized between visitors but I did not see one table wiped down when people left. It gave me the sense that I'd been lied to. Second, the food. I can only speak to my entree, the enchiladas de mole, I didn't try anyone else's. Our plates arrived quickly and our waiter (masked) was attentive. But the food looked a hot mess. On the left was an insipid grey puddle of what I took to be beans but they were a tasteless puree and they oozed all over the plate. On the right was a scoop of Spanish rice, kind of orange-y but also tasteless, no tomato flavor at all and some of the rice was hard as if it had sat under a heat lamp for too long. In the middle of it all sat two enchiladas, tortillas stuffed with shredded chicken. The mole sauce did add a little flavor but the chicken was so dry I had to dip it into the insipid grey puddle before I could eat it. Although I didn't try it I suspect I could have taken the chicken home and used it for kindling the next morning. Altogether there was nothing authentic or tasteful about my entree. We eat here often. The food is fresh and authentic. Special requests are no problem. My wife and I are both gluten and dairy free and there is plenty for us to eat here. We always end up taking food home with us because the portions are generous. They just renovated and the atmosphere has gone from hole-in-the-wall but friendly, to very impressive and friendly. My wife had to remind me that my expectations for quality were too high since we live in an area of the country that is chock-full of great Mexican food and this is northern Montana for heaven's sake. Overall, it was "OK". You will do best by lowering your expectations. My carne asada soft taco rated a 4 out of 10, while the cheese enchilada was closer to a 7. The service was mixed. She was friendly but neglected to tell me about a significant price differential in my taco based on the offered meat. Did not make any adjustments to my tab when I discovered the nearly double-the-difference. So much for the server adjusting a bill for the server's mistake. Lower your expectations for Mexican food, and you won't be disappointed. read more

Delicious. Haven't had good Mexican food since moving to Montana. We ordered Pollo la crema and the fajitas. And the kids burrito. Everything was up to par. The food arrived quickly, and was really hot, the taste however, was just OK, not really good. To be honest, we have not had really good Mexican food since we got past Texas on this sweep of the west coast and back through this part of the country. The only reason I am giving this place two stars is because a couple of people in our party said their food was good. The mango margarita special was overly sweet and didn't taste like it had any tequila in it. That was there first mistake because at least if it had alcohol I may not have noticed how terrible my dinner was. My son ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. It came out looking like light toast and the cheese was not melted at all. We sent it back. The cheese came back melted this time but the bread just tasted like stale bread. I ordered a seafood chimichanga. It was one of the most disgusting things I've ever put in my mouth. Definitely canned crab and I'm pretty sure canned bay shrimp, at best frozen bay shrimp that may or may not have been past it's expiration date. We went looking for tea kettle café it was closed. Then we found this restaurant near by. Service was great awesome food. Me being vegetarian didn't have any problem.
