We liked the picnic tables and the fairly simple menu, good atmosphere and very easy and convenient after a long day in the park. The food was pretty good. We are from Texas, we have some really good Mexican restaurants, so hard to beat what we have locally, but this was good. Prices are a little high, but it's a tourist spot. The burritos were about $15, quesadillas about $15 and tacos $5 each. I think the quesadillas are a little high priced, especially since my kids wanted cheese and meat only. Maybe they should offer a kid version of tacos and quesadillas. The main reason I gave 3 stars instead of 4- two out of the five of us got incorrect orders. My kiddo asked for tacos with just meat, cheese, onions and lettuce- they came with tomatoes and cilantro. Cilantro especially is something that people either like or they hate. He asked for them to change it, and they gladly remade. But then I started eating my burrito - I had ordered with no olives because I absolutely hate olives- and it was full of olives. At that point, I did not want to go ask for another remake. It's just uncomfortable. I imagine they would have made it again, but I don't feel like that burden should be on the customer. A restaurant can always state that there are no changes or substitutions, but the person taking our order asked us if we were good with all the veggies that came on the burrito. So it seems they are used to people asking for them to remove things. That was disappointing that I had to pick through my food. So I hope the try harder on there details- otherwise would have give 4 or more stars. read more

Cash only I came here for dinner after I had just hiked 17 miles at Glacier National Park so you can bet I was slightly hungry. This place is a food truck right outside of the park that has some outdoor shaded seating. I ordered the fajita burrito with carne asada ($13.50) and like others have mentioned the burrito was huge! I liked the fajita peppers in the burrito along with the good carne asada meat. I don't know if it was because I was starving but I ate and finished the burrito faster than I ever have in my life. It's not going to be the best Mexican food ever but for a touristy spot and for its proximity to the park it's a good option if you want to get away from the typical burgers and American fare. Nice burrito and taco stand on Highway 2 near the west entrance to Glacier National Park. Bring your appetite, which is easy after a busy day in the Great Outdoors. Got a beef gringo burrito and a shredded chicken supremo burrito. They were huge. Filled with rice, beans, guacamole, cheese, lettuce, salsa and black olives, they really could be split into two if you are not as hungry. Vegetarian options are available. HUGE portion size! I ordered a chicken burrito and could barely finish it. It was very tasty, as well - loaded with guac, sour cream, cheese, beans, rice, meat, pico, all the good stuff. My wife got some tacos and were happy with them as well. But I'd recommend the burritos - tasty and filling! It was pretty hot the day we came, but there is a covered seating area, so eating outside was bearable. It became a little crowded when we were done, so I'd recommend coming a little earlier, if possible, so you can actually have somewhere to sit. It's also a good option to take to-go as well. The service was fine, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Made a pit stop here on our way to glacier national park. This place was suggested by a person in the grocery store that we visited to pick up some firewood. I am glad she suggested that place. I am from Texas and shocked to say that some of the best Tex Mex I've had I found in Montana! :D It's a cute set up as a food truck in a permanent spot with a covered seating area. It's cash only but has an ATM on site. The burritos are out of this world delicious and they are not stingy with ingredients! I have never had a burrito so big that I had to eat it with a fork! My husband also had a burrito and this man can throw down some food but this thing covered 2 meals for him! Excellent service and excellent food! The Burrito was great but it was on a piece of paper in a plastic basket. We used a knife and fork to cut the Burrito. You can't pick it up. Lots of paper eaten with the Burrito I'm sure. 2 stars because of the dogs. It's 80' outside and they made us leave our pups in the car. We have 2 toy poodles and we asked if they could sit at the picnic table. We were told no dogs. We stopped here from Glacier NP so we could get lunch and sit outside with our pups. We were staying at the campground across the street and decided on our last day to try out Wandering Gringo Cafe. They're located on the left side as you approach the West Glacier gate from the South. The taste of the $3.50 tacos would be improved if they replaced the cheap iceberg lettuce with something higher quality or with cabbage. Still, decent overall and you get your choice of flour or corn tortillas and three heat levels of sauce. The lady who tends the window is very personable. A big turn-off are the "leave your dogs in the car" signs, so on a hot day it's dining in the car with no shade spots. read more

Be warned, eating an entire burrito from this place will not endear you to the folks sharing a tent with you if you're camping in Glacier Nat'l Park. I know this from experience. The burrito easily weighs two pounds and comes filled with all the usual burrito stuffings (plus black olives!). You'll be given the choice of mild, medium, or hot sauce within. Opt for the medium or hot because there's not a ton of flavor within the meat. Good food is a stretch to come by around Glacier, and I suspect any ethnic foods will be watered down to suit the tourists' palate, so I am grateful that this place exists. For $10, you can have a meal that will fill you with enough calories to get you through an entire day. Just be warned the tenting or hiking within the next four hours is asking for trouble. read more

I stopped by here recently with my wife and her parents for an afternoon snack. We had driven past The Wandering Gringo a couple of days in a row and while it had sounded interesting we didn't decide to visit it until our scenic rafting trip guide told us some more. The Wandering Gringo is a food truck in a permanent location with some outdoor seating next to it as well as some nice flowers/landscaping right in front of it. They are cash only though so please be aware of that. Since we were just here for a snack my wife and I ultimately decided on splitting the deluxe quesadilla with chicken even if our guide earlier in the day was pushing the burritos. He had told us about how large they were and he wasn't lying as they were humongous. In any case we were allowed to add three addins to our quesdilla and ended up choosing cilantro, bell peppers and jalapeño. My wife wasn't too happy that I had chosen the jalepeno but it ultimately ended up being ok as they just added flavor and not much heat. After about a little less than a 10 minute wait they called my name signifying that our food was ready. Like the burritos it ended up being fairly large although not nearly as close to the size of the burritos. It was really good too and had an ample amount of both cheese and chicken. The tortilla was crispy on the outside and the cheese warm and gooey on the inside. Those addins were helpful too as they allowed you to customize the quesadilla your way and I loved the flavor of the cilantro and jalepeno while the bell pepper helped to give the dish some color. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I really enjoyed the food and would love to take on one of those massive burritos whenever I was really hungry. read more

Just stopped here after floating. We are locals and have heard the food here is good. We ordered the burrito supremo with carne asada. The burritos are huge! I mean 2 to 2.5 pounds of burrito. My daughter doesn't like all the extras so she got two soft tacos they were pretty small since she only wanted meat and cheese. I thought the burrito was tasty but for three burritos and two small tacos it was $45.50...pretty pricy for a food truck. I would go back but wouldn't order meat tacos. I would also try the chicken or pork instead of carne asada because of the up charge for beef.. .plus I heard the folks in front of us ask to split the burrito. If you want a hit of Mexican food in Montana, here's your place. The chef/owner is a former restaurant owner from AZ. We liked our food, but being from Texas we're a little spoiled taco wise. These were good, mind you, but we didn't think they were as good as the hype. Maybe that's what happens when you compare home with somewhere else. Anyway, we both got burritos and they were SO big neither of us could finish one. We asked for the supreme which was supposed to contain guacamole and sour cream. Mine had maybe a teaspoon of each. Writing this is making me rethink my rating...but it was good enough, lots of food, nice people, and a really pretty location. I lucked out that this place was just down the street from my motel! I was really impressed, and I am really particular about burritos. $10.50 is steep for a burrito, but the burrito you get is massive. I got the Supremo, w/ chicken, pinto beans, mild salsa and no black olives because what? And it was great. Very flavorful, and particularly happy with the quality of the shredded chicken. Often burrito places use low-quality meat with a lot of cartilage/gristle and hope you don't notice since it's buried under everything else rolled in there.
