Vanhousing's estimator showed up on time, asked good questions, wasn't pushy, and seemed to legitimately care about understanding the scope and what we were looking to achieve. Their bid was competitive and I had a good deal of faith in their ability to provide a great experience given what I'd read in other reviews. Vlad and his team ended up having to work through a multitude of challenges in order to deliver the end result that we enjoyed. I received constant professional communication (day, night, weekend) when things weren't going well (outside of their control) and what they were doing to resolve. They thoroughly owned resolving each obstacle instead of pushing it back to me to work out. This involved buying different kinds of paint and performing tests -- I even got a video of the test results to illustrate my options. Its obvious that this company cares a great deal about providing 5 star experiences. I own an old Victorian style home (Built early 1900's) which comes with old home intricacies and problems. Namely wear and tear. After shopping around with a few quotes my spouse and I decided on Vanhousing for several reasons. One of the main reasons being that this was the only company that offered carpentry services to help repair some of the old home charm. Troy, the estimator, took well over an hour and a half assessing our home, giving an estimate that was within our budget but also one in which we felt confident that he had done his due diligence in truly understanding what our home needed and how he was going to address those needs. Through the whole process there was ample communication. When the website says family owned, it means that. We were in communication with Troy (both estimator and carpenter) and Vlad (owner) throughout the whole process. If a concern was brought up (ex. Can we take down some coverings on the windows to let light in) it was promptly addressed and done. I believe the carpentry aspect was a new one that Vanhousing was adding to their repertoire, however, the quality of work was exceptional at every point. My home is an old Victorian and I recognize that a lot of work needed to be done, and a lot of work was done. Troy himself was a former carpenter with decades of experience, which he brought to the job and it truly showed. I hardly mention the painting portion of the job because it goes without saying it was a great job. Professionally done. The house looks amazing and I constantly get compliments on it. I focus so much on the carpentry aspect of the job as I feel others out there with old Victorian homes that need a little love with a new coat of paint are a little timid to do it. Why throw lipstick on a pig? That's not Vanhousing. They fixed my home, replacing rotten sections, sidings, did a fantastic job painting, Vlad himself even came out to do touch ups, and he did the walk throughs. Payment wasn't due until the work was done and we were happy with it and we're beyond thrilled. Would I recommend? A resounding yes. Would I do it again? Without a doubt. My home needed a new paint job but of utmost it needed repairs and Vanhousing offered both in one and they delivered on both accords. Vlad's crew did an excellent job of repainting our kitchen cabinets from dark brown into creamy white. Vlad's team is very detailed oriented. They followed exactly the steps and process as they were described in the quote. Vlad led the team and perform a careful and through check of every painted cabinet in the end and repainted some of the cabinets and re-leveled all the doors. Vladimir was one of only a couple of companies who acknowledged my request for an estimate to paint my kitchen cabinets and some cabinetry in an adjoining room. The estimate was a fair one and, as it was their very busy season, I was happy to wait for their availability. I'm so glad we did. Vladimir met with us a week before the job was due to start to go over details and expectations with us. He was punctual, polite and communicated thoroughly. He did end up starting a day later than scheduled, but he added to his crew to ensure the job was still done in the committed timeframe. We were very pleased with his dependability. Even though he had to travel over an hour to our house, he was here right at 8:00 each day with his crew and stayed until at least 6:00. His team was professional, hard-working, thorough and as quiet as they could be. He does not have a shop, so all work was done on site. This created some inconvenience but what we cared about was the final result, which was fabulous. We are so pleased with the outcome. As a professional Interior Designer, I am extremely particular and sensitive to small errors and blemishes in painting. I expect a very high level of professionalism and quality in the work of the contractors I work with. Vlad and his team were excellent in all respects. Vlad is very easy to communicate with and responsive. In addition to being excellent painters, Hugo and his painting team are exceptionally hard-working, polite, and considerate in cleaning up after themselves as they go and sticking with even the toughest of jobs. They additionally bring the right size crew to accomplish the tasks at hand. For my interior job they estimated about a week of painting and they managed the crew size according to the needs and pace and got it done cleanly and beautifully in 4 days. It was as low stress as interior painting can be and the spaces look wonderful. I absolutely recommend them and will be working with them again in the future. I have no hesitation in recommending them and this is not something I say about most contractors I work with. Further details if needed: The Vanhousing crew completed an extensive, exterior refinishing, re-painting, and interior repainting project. They showed up when they said they would and stayed on the job consistently through completion even when that extended beyond original time line and scope. Mid project, we decided to strip some previously painted existing beams and posts on a 1962 structure. Hugo and his crew ended up both chemically and then mechanically removing years of previous paint layers to un earch the raw wood hidden behind so that it would match the newly put in and unfinished beams. This ended up taking 4-6 people 2 weeks to actually accomplish. It was a frustrating endless process but Hugo's team undertook it cheerfully and in stride sticking through until it was all accomplished. I am sure many painters would have abandoned ship part way through as it was very challenging to do. Then on interiors, they came in and filled every scratch and dent bringing the spaces back to their formerly pristine state. They worked with a sometime tricky European paint I insist on using. They handled it easily even though they had not worked with it before. They even did a fantastic job in repainting a few baseboards with the oil version of the paint which can be even more challenging to work with for some painters. Hands down an excellent company to work with and capable of working in very fine homes. read more

This was the second time we have used Vanhousing Painters, and just like the first time, they did an awesome job. We needed a few rooms painted in the house along with some trim, as we are prepping to sale. This project took some skill to get good lines. They did an awesome job, all the rooms look great. They also restained/oiled our deck. The prep work was tough on this as its IPE wood, it's like working with metal. The pressure washed the deck surface and sanded, and even cleaned the metal and glass railings for us. It looks awesome as the product they used darkened to wood just a bit to match the railing. Vlad and crew are one of the few contractors that you can tell them what you want then kick back and relax. They will get it done, and check in to make sure it's what you wanted and exceeds your expectations. If you need painting done, hire them, you'll be really happy you did. read more

I informed him that until he takes a look at the project I won't know if it's a 1500 project or not... In which case I don't know if he's wasted my time or not!!! I had Vanhousing paint my kitchen cabinets and all cabinets in my house and their team did an amazing job. I wasn't sure how the paint would look because I had wood stain before but when they were done, the white semi-gloss paint looked better than the wood stain. They also, painted some of my window trims and base boards as a courtesy to match the cabinets. Then after they were done, I had others stain my wood floor which left some stains on the base boards and Vanhousing fixed the stains left by the other team. Wanted to have interior walls and ceilings re-painted for a condo. They were reasonably priced, punctual, responsive, and above all accommodating to my specific needs. I had a new cedar fence installed in the backyard and was looking into having the fence stained. Vlad was incredibly knowledgeable and conducted a water absorption test and determined the fence would be ready to be stained in a few months when it was completely dry. The Vanhousing estimate was professional, reasonably priced, and transparent. Vlad's expertise in staining was apparent when I had questions about which brand of stain to use, comparing semi-transparent vs. solid stains, and calculating how many gallons of stain would be needed. We decided to go with a semi-transparent exterior stain based off of Vlad's recommendation because I wanted the natural grains of the cedar to show while still protecting the fence with a durable stain. The color turned out perfectly. Vlad and his hard working crew applied two coats of stain and completed the job in one day. I was impressed with the level of detail and quality of their work because they sprayed the stain and then went over the fence with a brush by hand. The fence is tall as long, but with the stain, it is beautiful. Throughout the entire process, Vlad and his team were responsive, were easy to communicate with, and did a phenomenal job staining the fence.
