We recently hired TERA Painting to repaint our 1950s-era home, and the project turned out to be much more challenging than anyone expected. Years of old paint and previous paint failure meant there were many unexpected issues along the way. It definitely wasn't a straightforward repaint. I especially want to recognize Evan, our estimator and project coordinator, and Joel, the lead painter. When the project became more complicated than anticipated, Evan never disappeared or became defensive. He listened carefully to my concerns, communicated with me throughout the process, and, when it mattered most, personally rearranged his schedule to be on-site and make sure the final details were completed properly. That level of commitment meant a great deal to me. Joel's knowledge, craftsmanship, and attention to detail were equally impressive. It was obvious he cared about the finished product and took pride in doing quality work. Together, Evan and Joel were willing to rethink the approach as new challenges emerged, adapting the plan when needed rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all solution. They stayed committed to finding practical solutions and seeing a difficult project through instead of taking shortcuts or walking away when challenges arose. The final result is beautiful. My house looks refreshed, the curb appeal has been completely transformed, and I'm genuinely proud of how it turned out. Looking at it now, it's hard to appreciate just how much work went into getting it to this point. Ok after a couple years the stairs boards started coming off especially at the edges... another contractor doing some unrelated work told me they were not attached properly, they used some sort of flimsy staples. I was assuming it's normal for composite decking. Well it's not... I was able to pull off several boards by hand with barely any effort. I bought a box of proper screws to fix it. There was also a bunch of broken wood from the old stairs and enough screws to build another porch under there apparently. So I guess 5 stars for painting, 3 for the porch. read more

The entire team at Tera were great to work with from the initial bid, through the planning and execution of my exterior home painting. Mark met with me and walked the property to discuss options. The bid was professionally documented and included options so that I could make some informed decisions to include my house, a separate studio, and a shed. The job included painting siding of two different types (vinyl and wood) in two different colors, trim, 4 doors, varnished soffits and stained porch decking. As we got closer to the time, I was provided information to help select paint colors, and explanation of their approaches for managing the assignment through weather variables. We settled on a week in May and when the weather didn't fully cooperate they didn't rush, but took the time to get things right. The prep work showed attention to detail, and they were careful to protect surroundings from overspray. When we discovered some wood that needed repair during the painting, they tackled it professionally. When I asked for suggestions for a small unfinished area in the soffit, they adjusted and accommodated, with a proposal, and then completed the adjustment skillfully. Chloe kept me apprised of progress while I traveled. Arturo and the team of painters worked skillfully and their experience showed. We did a final walk through and addressed a few minor touch ups I pointed out. Several days later, they came back to add traction tape on my front porch steps and drop off the touch up paint nearly labeled with colors on the paint can lids. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. I have used Tera Painting for multiple projects: drywall repair after water damage, repainting old cabinets, regular wall painting and fixing up a rental property. I had one issue with the cabinets where the painters did not paint the side of one of my cabinets, but it was eventually resolved. They have wonderful communication, always start and finish on time, and the are detail oriented across the board (estimators, project managers, and painters). In my experience, they leave my walls in a better state than they find them in - handling calking, repairs, and any necessary touch ups. I really appreciate when painters encounter something not covered in the work plan, they ask and verify vs. ignoring it or hitting me with a surprise charge for something I did not want. The are on the pricier side (but not prohibitively), but I feel like for the quality and communication it is worth it. I ventured away from them once after the cabinet situation and semi-regretted it. The other company started out cheaper, but made a few mistakes (that they eventually fixed but not awesome), missed some wall coverage in the bid (which wasn't obvious reading the bid), and the work was overall lower quality and did not look as professional as I would have liked (dark spots on lighter painted walls, some holes not patched, no calking on millwork, didn't fully remove some outlets, didn't paint the raw edges of the quarter round, etc). read more

Boy oh boy did Matt ever give me attitude! His bid was way out of line anyway, thousands more than 2 competitors! Just nope.

We hired Tera painting to paint our kitchen cabinets. I can't even begin to say how happy we are with the final results. The before and after pictures I've included really do speak for themselves. However there are a few additional details that the Tera Painting team did that are worth mentioning. 1. Color Matching: We knew that we wanted to have the cabinets White, but I didn't know what white we wanted. Matt took a piece of our existing white crown molding and I had it professionally matched so that our cabinets would look seamless with the rest of the house. 2. Quality of Service: We actually ended up being out of town when Matt's team did the painting. I was able to leave a key for his staff so they could come and go as they needed. I never had any issues or concerns about the team. They left my house in pristine condition and we came home to a glorious new kitchen. 3. Price: We received several quotes and Tara Painting was by far the best price for the quality they were able to provide given the confines of our space and our needs. 4. End Result: The cabinets are truly outstanding! You cannot tell this wasn't the original color. Including some of the incredibly detailed crown molding I have which has been perfectly filled in with no gaps. When I did have a concern Matt responded quickly and came back out to the site to check and make sure everything was up to his standard. 5. Communitarian: Matt was incredibly quick to respond with all of my questions. I don't mind saying that I seemed to have a question around every corner our email chain may have been 70 emails deep! Tera took a 1500 sq. foot office that had been occupied for 30 years and made into a modern, beautiful space. We gathered a few bids for our new-to-us century old craftsman. Tera Painting was very reasonable in their bid. We needed a lot including rot repair, rebuilt porch railing, some kitchen windows replaced, interior paint for a few rooms, fence staining, and exterior paint for both detached garage the whole house. This was a three color, three-story tall house with significant high ladder work. They are OSHA-certified and follow safety protocols. This is not a company of shortcuts. My job included three sheens-- flat, low-lustre and satin, prep of new wood in many areas, and a sequence that was deeply thoughtful about how to attack the challenge. We hired Tera painting to fix our ceiling which was damaged by a leaking. Alex and Matt showed up and did a great job. They tear down old ceiling, installed new drywall, sanded and leveled, and repainted. Very professional and also protected floor/walls carefully. One thing made me really appreciate their service. After job was first done, there were still some bulging areas that is observable when you turned off most of lights in the evening. I talked it with them. And they didn't give any excuse, quickly figure out the root cause, and took another 2 days to make our ceiling to perfect. Tera painting put in insulation, drywall, texture, paint, and trim after my ground floor flooded. It was a big project and he did a fabulous job. You'd never know I literally didn't have the bottom 2-4 feet of wall throughout the ground floor. Their job was flawless. Matt was able to give an incredibly detailed bid (broken down by room, with photos etc.) very quickly, and I felt the price was was fair. He was very flexible and able to work around other contractors to help my ground floor get back to a livable condition quickly. He consistently made the choice to do the job to the highest standard, even if it was above and beyond what the initial contract had promised (e.g. going to get hemlock baseboards for the bathroom, which are more mold resistant, vs. using MDF). He, and his team (especially Alberto) were wonderful throughout. Everyone was so friendly and respectful: they even did their best to keep things quiet when my son napped.
