Our house was in desperate need of exterior painting after fifteen years of weathering. After coming up short with word-of-mouth recommendations and inconclusive web research, we turned to Yelp to find a contractor. Tera painting made our short list of candidates based on very positive customer feedback. After reviewing several bids and comparing contract terms and prices, we chose Tera Painting. From there we worked with Alex and Matt to write a tailored contract based on some additional out-of-scope work and they were very amenable at making the changes for only modest cost increases. A project start date was set soon thereafter. Prior to the start date we needed to come up with a color scheme so Tera could get the paint ordered. However, we were having trouble deciding on just the right colors. And for a project of size, the colors needed to be exactly what we wanted. Tera put us in touch with a color designer, Elizabeth Brown of EB Color Consultants, LLC. She helped us arrive at the perfect color palette and then provided a finalized spec sheet to Tera. From that spec sheet, Tera was able to have the main house color perfectly matched from the color and paint brand we chose to a custom Sherwin-Williams paint. Tera even dropped off the custom color swatches to our house for review. The project started right on time and completed without any problems. Mike Kim was the job lead and Louis with the head painter. Mike bent over backwards to make sure all our questions were answered, he maintained good communications with us and made sure our contract was followed to a "T." Louis is very skilled at his craft and he performed amazing brush work. All lines were clean and sharp with no bleed over. Louis's crew applied the house paint in a completely uniform manor such that there are no light or heavy patches, no runs, no sags, no over-spray. Tera Painting is the first commercial painter we've used since my father's passing several years back. My father was a union painter for decades and always handled the painting for our family. We needed the entire interior of our home painted while occupying the residence, including doors and trim, and got 7-8 quotes. Tera provided a detailed digital proposal with clear line items. We went with Tera because of their positive reviews, communication (listening especially), and ability to help with some repair work as a general contractor (sky light case, door frame repair and one door replacement, and drywall patching). Everyone we worked with was friendly, flexible, and skilled. We ran into some hiccups when our family got sick and Tera was flexible about rescheduling when we were halfway done with the job, and then again with our other projects on the house and Tera was able to add on line items, touch up around new fixtures, and even cleaned up some work of a previous contractor. We chose Tera painting for two reasons; the bid was reasonable and Matt and his colleague who came out to give the bid were down-to-earth, personable and professional. They were honest in what they could do with our 1960's Traditional style home. We have old garage doors, that have loss the lamination and we were not in the market to buy new doors, as well as having our brick (on the lower part of the house) painted white to match the white wood. Painters seem to be very busy in the summer, and several others I contacted had either been unresponsive or turned down the relatively small job. This is a review for the lack of professionalism, ability to be honest with expectations, timeliness and responsiveness. My husband met with Alex Houghton in August of 2017 to come to do an estimate. He came to the house to do a full walk around. He never provided us with a full estimate upon request. My husband emailed multiple times and each time he promised he would get a bid within a week. The same story every time. We had to keep harassing him. It's been six months. They clearly don't need to maintain customer service in order to get new projects. These guys did a great job doing our repair/install of drywall. It was a pain the butt because we had previous wall texture and are doing a kitchen demo which included new walls, removal of walls, and lots of "holes". My family and I own Leschi Market. Tera Painting did a wonderful job painting our store. It was no small project. We had not painting parts of the building in 18 years. There was a lot of dry rot and missing trim on parts of the building. The wood on the building was also very dry and soaked up more paint than what was estimated. The building took longer than expected because more issues kept coming up. Alex to the owner kept to his original price even though he was going to loose money. We talk and came up with a new price. We recently began to paint the exterior of our house only to find that there were portions that we could not reach ourselves. We rented different ladders, tried to climb on the roof (which was way too steep!), but could not finish the job ourselves. We called around to over a dozen professional painting companies and Tera was one of two that responded with a possibility of getting the job done...this year!! Alex, the owner, called and emailed with us directly and asked for a few photos of the work that needed to be done. He came out to our house a few days later and painted our partially finished exterior and even touched up some spots that we had missed, all in the matter of an afternoon. Some of the spots were very sketchy, three stories up and on a severely pitched roof, not to mention the hoard of wasps that they had to kill before hand. But when all was said and done, from the time we emailed Tera inquiring about doing the job to the house being completely done was four days. FOUR DAYS! Our job was very small, but no other company would consider the work until 2015. Tera came and finished everything we needed in a professional manner for less than they quoted us and in under a week. Our experience with Tera Painting was extremely positive. Their bid came in a little higher than the other two we received, but based on our experience working with Alex through that process with Alex, we decided that their's would be a better final product and we haven't been disappointed. Alex's knowledge of paint and surfaces is extensive and allowed him to come up with good solutions for our faded shingles and peeling chimney bricks. Both came out looking far better than I would have expected. Alex made a custom mixed for our primary house color, going through several iterations of mixing and blending to reach a final product that met with our approval. Alex and his crew were detail oriented throughout the job and completed everything as scoped. Any problems during the job were fixed without hesitation or question. They repainted the front door because of an issue in how the paint adhered on the first attempt. One of the glass panes in the light on our front porch broke when they were power washing and they replaced all four panes so that they matched. Our house was way over due a new paint job. The previous owners had re-painted the siding with insufficient preparation. Additionally, due to faulty rain gutters, there was water damage that only became known during the preparation for new paint. After carefully comparing several painting contractors on line, we selected Tera Painting because they seemed like the best combination of both price and quality. We were not disappointed in our decision. The initial bid for work included three different levels of work with the pros and cons of each choice. When the water damage became visible, the on-site manager kept us fully informed of our options and costs to proceed, resulting in an addendum to the original contract. Our contract with Tera included a completion date that was very important to us because we were hosting a large event with many out of town guests. The repairs of the water damage and poor weather conditions made the completion date very difficult to meet. To stay on target and actually meet the completion date Tera had a crew working from day light to dark on good weather days. Their professionalism and attention to detail included daily cleanup of the yard and a status update by email at the end of every work day. We are very pleased with the timely finished paint job.
