    Boiled pork and chive dumplings.
    Fawn G.

Anyone who knows me knows I love trying new places especially anywhere in my two favorite neighborhoods, Williamsburg and Greenpoint. Today I found myself in Williamsburg to run some errands and catch a bite. I wanted Asian street food, dumplings, steamed buns, etc. I reviewed Vanessa quickly on website and decided I would give it a try since it is located on Bedford Avenue. I entered in and was greeted by the friendly cashier and ordered boiled pork and chive dumplings and veggie bun. I then was given a number and waited @10 minutes. I found a table and the first thing I feel is the stickiness of the table. Uh oh.. folks it's going to be a bumpy review. Hold onnnnnnn My number is called and I pick it up from the counter. The tray my food was served on is sticky. The veggie bun looked good on the outside but one bite and the vegetables tasted like algae.. seriously.. seaweed. There was no sauce to accompany it but the bottled sauces Asian restaurants use: hot sauce or sriracha and soy sauce. I grabbed the soy sauce and drizzled it on bun, inside bun and then all over bun.. healthy turned to salty. The mini size dumplings were in a tin foil little pan and weren't drained as well as they could be. The pork and chive combination didn't for some reason mesh well just lacked any pizzazz although it was juicy. The interior is blond wood tables (sticky) and not much else. Seriously, cleanliness should be the numero uno priority of every establishment. I really don't enjoy posting two star reviews however, in this case, it's how the dumpling crumbles... Color me a disappointed dumpling.

If you're looking for cheap tasty chinese food without going too far out of williamsburg, this place hits the spot. I highly recommend the spicy wontons, sesame pancake with peking duck!

Been to the one in LES and was excited that one was also located in Williamsburg. I did quite a few online orders with this place and all were amazing and fresh quality at an affordable price. Prices are definitely a lot more affordable compared to other Asian eats when it comes to dumplings, sandwiches, and noodles. I always order the pork chop noodles and the soup broth has balanced seasoning and they give a lot of broth instead of noodles here. Noodles are pretty soft and break easy when you bite it with your teeth. The chicken pancake sandwich in my opinion is a bit dry when you bite the chicken. The chicken is shredded pieces of chicken breast and barely any fat or seasoning to go with it. I like the cilantro part adding that extra flavor and the sesame pancake when you bite into it, you can seriously taste the sesame part.

They offer a great selection of vegetarian options, and I was eager to try the vegan beef dumpling--it did not disappoint. The flavors were bold and satisfying. Can't wait to return and explore more of the menu. Despite its modest appearance, this spot packs a serious flavor punch.

The dumplings here are alright. The skin is a bit thick and the prices are reasonable, but a bit on the high end for dumplings. The service is pretty quick, which is nice. But the dumplings can be better in my opinion.

I've never been partial to dumplings but Vanessa's has turned me into a believer. They have an extensive menu of both fried and boiled dumplings. I love their shrimp boiled dumplings (that are actually crispy despite being boiled)!! Yesterday I tried; *Pork Buns (3pcs) - 5 stars Chicken and Basil Boiled Dumplings - 4 stars Pork & Chive Fried Dumplings - 5 stars *Shrimp & Chive Boiled Dumplings - 5 stars Red Bean Bun - 3.5 stars (* = Favorite) See picture of my receipt for prices! You can sit inside or take out food! This particular location always makes the dumplings perfectly. I've never had a problem here. The staff is the absolute sweetest. Thanks for always being so friendly! Kitchen is fast for the most part. See you next time, Vanessa!!

Ok outpost of this NYC dumpling namesake to score some decent dumplings and noodle plates. Service was quick and efficient but not overly friendly. My boiled veggie dumplings and noodles in peanut sauce were freshly prepared and didn't take too long of a wait. Large portions too. There is a dining area in the back and tables in the front. Nothing fancy here, just overall cheap eats that won't break the bank.

Always in a mood for dumplings. ALWAYS! Growing up on this simple appetizer and retaining budget friendly eatings, I will never get tired of gulping down 15 - 20 of these in one meal sitting. I've been to the East Village location and was curious about this one opened in Williamsburg. Love how spacious this location is. And my order came really quickly. My first choice will always be fried dumplings because only food venues has the kitchen equipment to make things crispy and savory altogether, like their dumplings here. This place does its best to make dumplings inexpensive despite the expensive Williamsburg rental prices. I wasn't looking for a Michelin star dumpling or a big gastronomical meal, just simple snacking where I didn't have to shovel out $20+ for a meal. This place did the trick. Be prepared to bring cash if you're spending under $10 to eat because they don't take credit cards here at that range. And my total did come short at their minimum. Luckily I always carry cash around for hunger crisis like this. Good simple stuff.

FYI - CASH ONLY for orders under $10!! Overall, 3.5/5 but will round up to a 4/5. I got the "Pork and Cabbage" boiled dumplings with soup ($8 after tax) which was pretty pricy for just 8 dumplings. The skin was too thick for my liking but the pork had a good ratio of meat and fat along with a good crunch from the cabbage. It was flavorful! The soup was light and clean with a decent amount of garnish and bokchoy, which was perfect for a rainy and cold day. I wouldn't come to Vanessa's unless I was craving dumplings and it was conveniently around the corner. You can definitely find another dumpling place for better pricing.

The best snack and SO fast! Our dumplings came out in a few mins. Reasonably priced and lots of seating inside and a few tables outside There were 2 registers taking orders and a self-service screen so there was hardly a wait to order

Steamed Bok Choi and basil chicken steamed dumplings.. outrageously good.

Really cool restaurant in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. We went into Brooklyn to check out a couple of bars and decided to have some authentic dumplings beforehand. The dumplings were amazing! You got to choose a side for each dumpling order. I chose the steamed bok choi to go with my steamed basil chicken dumplings. Outstanding! My son and wife got fried dumplings and they were just as good. Like most places we went to on this trip, you order at the counter, and they bring out the food. Service was fast and friendly. Restaurant was very clean. Bathrooms were very clean. Had a great meal before hitting the Brooklyn streets.

When I heard this place was opening up a second location I knew I had to check it out. I took my bike and rode it for the first time up to Williamsburg. When I somehow got there without being hit by a car, I was surprised at what I saw. There were a lot of people enjoying the food outside on this cold covid weather. I didn't notice how popular Vanessa's Dumpling House got over the years. I locked my bike and went inside. The menu was a bit limited because of obvious reasons but there was a good amount of items to choose from. I decided on just the chicken with chives pan fried dumplings and the veggie sesame pancake sandwich. It only took about 5 minutes for it to be done. At first glance the dumplings were a different shade of dumpling color. They almost seemed golden brown. They were crispy at the bottom from sitting on the pan but soft all around. I noticed there were no cracks in the skin which is very important! Keeping all the juices in retains it's flavors and moistness. Needless to say I ate all these up in 2 minutes. The pancake sandwich was just as good. It was sort of like a thicker scallion pancake. It provided a good shell for the fillings. Overall I'm very happy on this visit. It was well worth the risk of getting hit by cars biking here.

We have been going to the Eldridge Chinatown location for 20 years! It has always been a favorite go to spot. Everything is always so tasty, juicy and cheap! This Williamsburg location will only be a go to spot if we must have dumplings. We've been going since this location opened up, but the prices are getting so high! The Union Square location is unfortunately closed, but that's where we would grab a salmon sesame pancake - our favorite! ... What's my issue: My issue are the prices here, but yes, the pandemic has changed the world and supply chain all around. Will the prices ever decrease, I don't think so, just like everything else. ... What we usually order: Our favorites are the pan fried pork+chive dumplings and veggie sesame pancake! These still taste great. Every time we go, I also grab 2+ bags of frozen dumplings, but this time felt they were smaller filling portions. It wasn't the same and didn't taste as good as the last time.

    Very delicious

The food was very fairly priced and the portions were huge. We got the pork soup dumplings, pork fried rice, szechuan chicken (which came with white rice), and pad see ew (which though not listed comes with pork, chicken, and shrimp). Everything was solid, but our favorite was the fried rice which had a ton of flavor. I liked the veggies that were in the chicken dish but there were just way too many of them compared to the chicken and I wasn't crazy about the sauce. The pad see ew wasn't made the traditional way I've had it with soy sauce and oyster sauce. It had some sort of orange sauce that tasted closer to a sweet and sour. It wasn't bad it was just not what I was hoping for. The soup dumplings were solid, no complaints there. And the fried rice was great, lots of flavor. Overall, I liked this place especially for the price but I'd probably order different things if I went back.

I found parking down the block and walked over to the restaurant. It seems like more of a delivery spot because there was no one inside sitting at any of the 5 tables. It's a fairly good size space, very simply decorated, mixed with a cool wall resembling a curio cabinet of treasures. I chose a spot in the middle and went to the restroom which was clean and simple. I noticed there were a lot of takeout orders, from delivery services to local folks picking up their regular dinner. I looked over the menu and decided on salt and pepper wings and an order of shrimp. Fried Rice came out first and it was delicious. I even tasted a hint of salted egg yolk mixed into the egg mixture friefried up with the rice that signature crispiness with the little saltiness.... fantastic. The salt and pepper wings were different than the ones i'm accustomed to though the flavor was amazing. It didn't have the fried garlic, peppers, chilis, and onions that i'm accustomed to being in the dish. They were still flavorful, juicy and crisp and I could tell they cooked them fresh. That was much appreciated. I ended up taking half of my food home because I was stuffed.Thank you Msm Ellen and the Crown Garden crew for a tasty solo dinner.

There was nothing that I ordered that needed ketchup. Nothing. There wasn't even soy sauce in the bag. Then had the unmitigated gall to charge $22 for the salt baked shrimp and told me I had to pay $5 extra to substitute the lo mein for white rice. Who is eating white rice with shrimp? Girl bye. I'm not paying almost $30 for one meal from a hood Chinese spot. If there's no heat in your establishment, your prices need to be in lowercase. If it looks like you might catch staph in your establishment, your prices need not to be so loud. I also believe they overcharged me. They did have a sign saying that the prices went up, but I think they may have been too cheap to print out a new menu if that was the case. I was going off of what they had on the wall for the general public. So as I stated, I ordered crab Rangoon ($7, allegedly), honey wings ($7, allegedly), a shrimp egg roll ($2, allegedly), spare rib tips with fried rice ($12, allegedly). My total was $31. My assumption is they probably charged me extra for pork fried rice, which I didn't ask him for. I know for a fact they are not charging tax because there's no way that you're forcing people to pay in cash while also charging them for taxes that you don't pay. The crab Rangoon was actually pretty decent even though I didn't have the sauce that comes with it. The honey wings were OK. They actually taste more like honey BBQ. I prefer C&Y honey wings. It's real honey and stay hot for an hour due to the way honey maintains heat. I also don't appreciate when these spots chop up a wing and call it two wings. 1 wing is the entire thing. STINGY. The spare rib tips I don't like and neither do I like their pork fried rice. The rice is a bit bland and I don't like those large spare rib tips. I prefer the boneless spare rib tips that C&Y has. A shrimp roll is a shrimp roll is a shrimp roll. It wasn't too bad and it was actually pretty happy. The shrimp was a little bit larger than those baby shrimp that they normally stuff in shrimp rolls. Their pricing is on par with C&Y yet I don't have no issues paying what they ask and their food is good aside from their lo mein. They are not stingy and have pretty decent customer service unlike the guy who took my order here who paused my order to take another order over the phone and tend to the person behind me. This is what I get for cheating on my spot and being lazy when they both were far af.
