I used to love it here but like many other reviews say, the food has changed. My personal favorite was the pumpkin curry. It's not as spectacular now, missing the richness it used to have and the pumpkin is a bit over cooked. Also had some basil fried rice. It was fine. Lacked good flavor from a nice fry on the rice. They are open for take out during COVID. I really wish Yelp would let us do half stars. I would give this place. 3.5. I rounded up to 4 because I don't like to bring places down with lower ratings unless they're really bad and this place isn't that bad. But it's not that great either. Shrimp Pad Thai (3.5/5) - way too saucy. The sauce wasn't bad, there was just too much of it. I guess too saucy is better than when Pad Thai comes out dry. Their noodles were a perfect consistency which can be hard to get right so I give them props for that. They also gave a lot of noodles and shrimp which we appreciated. My friend said one shrimp did not taste as fresh, I thought they were okay. I would give this dish a 4, but my friend felt it was a 3 so we landed on a 3.5. Chicken Satay with peanut sauce (4/5) - you get 5 small skewers and it comes with a side cucumber salad. The chicken was moist and the peanut sauce was good. A few pieces of the cucumber salad were really bitter, not sure why that was, my friend assumed it was the cucumber skin. Decent Thai food for a decent price, good portion size. First time I called they said they were out of beef salad, so I ordered some Larb, not very good or up to their standards. We are regulars and have been to Vanda maybe 20+ times. Before the pandemic, the waiters knew our orders. We had never had a bad meal at Vanda, whether for in-person dining or takeout, until last night. We ordered takeout for 6:15pm. The order wasn't ready until 6:55pm. When we got home, we noticed: (1) the shrimp and tofu curry had no shrimp or tofu; and (2) the pad see ew, which we ordered "not at all spicy" was super hot. Inedibly hot. We called the restaurant to ask for a refund. We were told we could come pick up a substitute meal (no thank you, too far to drive too late at night). Then we were offered a "credit" to come pick up the same meal at a later time? With no way to prove it? It was weird. I hope they gave us a refund but sadly this may be the last time we go to this Thai place. read more

Walking into Vanda really felt like stepping into a regular hangout. Very nice and friendly staff service the 10 tables with ease and efficiency. We ordered the Roti and Crispy Tofu which are two of my favorite starters. The Roti was delicious, nice flakey and crispy outside and tender inside with a nice density. I really loved the Roti. Served with a side of yellow curry to dip it was perfect. Next was the crispy tofu which were nice large triangular pieces of tofu. Nice and light golden brown, the tofu was perfectly cooked with a nice crispy shell and airy fluffy inside. It was excellent. My wife had the eggplant with chicken and I tasted it. Really delicious with a huge portion of chicken and eggplant. I had the spicy green beans with chicken and ordered it spicy. IF you like spicy then you will love this dish. The sauce was DELICIOUS with a nice burn on the lips, sinus clearing and tear duct cleaning property. I don't think I would order extra spicy. One of the best spicy green bean dishes I have had. I love authentic Thai food. I don't know the deal with this place, but I wouldn't call it Thai food. I don't know what to call it. I'm guessing that, given all the stellar reviews, whatever it once was, it no longer is. Maybe it's under new ownership or the chef quit and they replaced him/her with something out of a jar from Trader Joe's. I ordered Pad Kee Mao and Pumpkin Curry, both vegetarian, both with tofu. My partner and I agree that it was the blandest Thai food we've ever tasted, bar none. Most of the authentic flavors one might expect from a Thai restaurant: kefir lime, lemon grass, thai basil, galangal root, etc. were missing. In fact, all of those flavors were missing. Came here with a party of 4. Customer service was rear! Checked in every so often and filled our glasses with water. We ordered a total of 6 items (3 appetizers and 3 entrees ) plus 3 Thai teas and order came out to about $66? (I forgot the exact pricing) First item we ordered was the roti appetizer, I didn't try it because I was too busy eating the other items but it seemed like everyone liked this item. They said it was their favorite item out of everything we ordered. Crispy and went well with the sauce. The next item that came out was the crispy tofu. Yummy! It was crispy on the outside and soft in inside and the peanut sauce that came with it was yummy! Added a bit of sweet flavor to the tofu. Definitely recommend trying this out. The samosas were okay, definitely different from when I came last time (couple years ago). It was crispy and loaded with potatoes but for some reason didn't have much of a taste to me. I didn't really like this one and was disappointed since I recommended this dish. Pad Thai came next, could definitely have some improvements. The noodles were dry, couldn't really taste the sauce (didn't taste any Tamarind in it). The noodles were somewhat bland, maybe it was an off day for the kitchen but the pad Thai was disappointing. Drunken noodles - I asked for t to be spicy. I'm a spicy fanatic so I was expecting to taste some heat considering I'm ordered spicy for Thai. However when the item came out, nothing. To me it wasn't spicy at all! And my boyfriend who cannot eat spicy (usually orders mild for spicy levels) tried it and said that it wasn't too spicy. He tasted a small kick but that's about it. The taste was great! Just wished it was spicy! Maybe ask for extra spicy if you are a spicy fanatic! Thai tea- sweet! I thought that the Thai tea was really good here, it wasn't too sweet but could also taste a tiny bit of tea to it. I would definitely order the drink again if I were to come here. Green curry- I didn't eat too much of the green curry since I was stuffed! However trying a little bit of it made me want to eat more (wish I had room for it tbh) the green curry was creamy with hint of coconut and the eggplant was super soft. I would prob order to dish again to actually taste it. This was all from just one bite mixed with rice. Overall , I think the service is fantastic but maybe the kitchen just had an off day? They have really gone Down hill! They sold a few years ago and the food wasn't as good but still reasonably good. I went recently they didn't give us any sauce for our crab wontons. I ordered garlic beef and they gave us some weird cold beef salad thing and the beef was very chewy. So bad my dogs wouldn't even touch it. I do feed them just for dogs for might be that the food quality was just below human quality not below is an average dogs quality of food though? None the less it was the wrong item and I even repeated it because I thought she said salad on the phone. I specifically said the garlic beef not a salad correct and she said yes...everything leaked all over the bag and was a mess due to poor packaging. I miss the old owners the food use to be so good! I would say Torsap which I use to think was 1/2 as good as vanda is 2x as good now just for a kp just how bad it's gotten :( read more

Small and clean Thai restaurant inside a strip mall and next to Dunkin Donuts. The two times that I've been here were good. So far the curry and khao soi noodle soup were done well. Curry isn't too watery and has the right amount of consistency with flavor. The noodle soup is with a mild curry, few carrots, potatoes, chicken. You can choose the type of noodles that you like. They are very seriously about COVID-19 precautions with plexiglass between the staff and the customers, and they even wipe your credit card after process the payment. This was one of the few Thai places that I had yet to try around the area and I'm glad I did. It was rather quiet on a Sun night so the service and delivery of food was pretty efficient. We ordered chicken satay, crab pad Thai, and fried banana with ice cream. The appetizer was good, but I don't believe I've ever had poorly made chicken satay...the peanut sauce was really tasty - so tasty that I mixed it in with the pad Thai for extra flavor. The noodles were good and adequately chewy. I would have preferred more dungeness crab and a larger portion overall (the fatkid in me was slightly shy of feeling satiated), but I still enjoyed the dish. We finished off dessert with fried banana with ice cream and honey. I appreciated that they didn't drown the banana in batter, but I think the type of batter could use some improvement as it didn't quite have that crispiness that's typical of this dish. After having this on my list to try for weeks we finally tried some carry out during the Covid crisis. What a find...it was outstanding! Similar menu to Thai places around here, but the flavors seem turned up to 11. And they don't shy from heat although you can order it without. So far we have tried the omelette, tom kha soup, basil chicken, and several noodle dishes including the pad Thai. Their spicy is not spicy at all on their lowest spicy level, so if you're looking for a bit of spice maybe ask for it on the side. My favorite Thai restaurant in Walnut Creek so far! I picked up a takeout order recently, and it was done early and it was a great deal for lunch. Their lunch specials were a really good value, and tons of food. It's also easy to find parking (it's right next to the Dunkin' Donuts). I loved my yellow chicken curry lunch special, and my family members enjoyed their lunch specials as well. The spring rolls were delicious, and I believe the combo came with a salad as well! I haven't tried any of their noodle dishes, so I can't speak to the quality of those. I'll be back to try them soon! read more

Nicely spaced for a party of 4, this restaurant was a good experience. The staff were on their toes and always were paying attention. Sure, there was a lot of laughing and gossiping in the front, but they really got the job done. Lunch specials give you the best deals. Discounted meals with an extra egg roll is ideal. Water was served immediately and food came out in a faster time than I had thought it would take! The quality of the food was great. Best Thai food in Walnut Creek! Before the pandemic we would come for dinner at least once a week if that. It's that good let me tell ya! The staff are very friendly and attentive. This place gets real busy. I know that for a fact just sitting at the table looking at the menu I would notice their phones were ringing non-stop. Their ticket ordering system would keep printing tickets. This is my go to place. I would drive from Concord not too far from Walnut Creek to get my craving taken care of lol. If you looking for recommendations these are my favs here. Start off with the Roti W/ Curry & Thai Samosa. Sometimes we get the Sleepy Shrimp & Grilled Chicken which are also excellent to try depending on what you're craving. The Tom Yum Noodle soup is flavorful and spicy just the way I like. The Kao Soy is another popular one to try as well. It's always a toss up between those two when we come. But my fav when it comes to Thai Food would be their Spicy Basil Chicken. OMGeezy this is the one to have! It's freakin SMACKALICIOUS! You wont be disappointed. Don't get it too spicy tho or you'll be sweating your butt off! I was looking forward to trying this place based on the reviews, I ordered Roti with Curry and asked for a water. It came out super quick and was super hot but the Roti was soggy/oily and not crispy, it did not taste fresh, seems like it was microwaved and not made fresh. It was different than I expected because it had carrots and potatoes, making it more similar to yellow curry, but it was still delicious! We stopped here on a weekday around 8:30 pm - a lot of places close earlier in the DTWC area, and the fact that they were open until 9:30 is what brought us here (and we were craving Thai). Vanda is located over in the strip mall kitty-corner to Whole Foods (near the Casper's) - we never knew this place even existed! It's similar in layout to your classic hole-in-the-wall - tidy, cozy, but not particularly festive on the decor. The service, though, is top-notch - very friendly ladies running the place who wouldn't even let our water go more than an inch empty. All empty plates vanished; our table had pretty impressive feng shui going on. We went with our classic Thai entrees - the Green Curry w/ Chicken for him, and the Seafood Noodle Soup ($11) for me. We enjoyed everything! I have no idea how they make the calamari in the soup so beautiful, but the pattern tenderized the typical chewiness out of it. Really well-cooked grub, and I was thrilled to have scallops in my soup (that never happens). The Fresh Spring Rolls ($8) are also a great call (super fresh!) - stick a straw in that peanut sauce and I'm pretty much done. If you're looking for lunch or a late-evening dinner, check em' out. I give Vanda Thai a solid 3.5 rating. It's a great option on a Friday night in Walnut Creek since it has a private lot a bit away from the downtown insanity. The staff are super sweet, attentive and welcoming. Decor is very basic, almost sterile, but come here with the mindset that it's a no frills spot. The food is fresh and flavorful-very good but not extraordinary, hence not bumping this spot up to 4 stars. I've sampled the veggie spring rolls which are run-of-the-mill but tasty. Their spicy basil sauce with tofu and veggies was just alright-it was a bit too spicy for me. However, last night I tried the Ginger Tofu and Veggies, which were outstanding. The sauce definitely had fresh ginger in it and the veggies and tofu were nicely sautéed. The savory flavor and array of colorful red peppers, broccoli, mushrooms and carrots was healthy yet satisfying. My boyfriend is a fan of their pineapple fried rice-that particular dish is a very large portion so seems great for ordering for the table to share. Since he got it with chicken, and I'm all veggie, I didn't partake. They offer rice at no additional charge with many of their stir fry dishes, and only 50 cent up charge for brown rice. I'll definitely be back when I'm craving Thai food in Walnut Creek. The prices are more than fair (cheap, even, for this area,) portions are generous (took home leftovers) and it seems like a nicely run family oriented business.
