It was a really memorable experience, especially since our waiter's name was Vincent and he looks just like a young Van Gogh...seriously, what are the chances...?! We ordered four different types of pancakes - two savory and two sweet. Each combo was fantastic. The Rottenberg with shawarma was our favorite (perfectly spiced!) and the one with apples, arugula, goat cheese and honey was our second favorite. Disclaimer: I'm not a huge fan of Dutch food. My mother's family immigrated from the Netherlands so I grew up eating some Dutch dishes and they were never my favorite. I guess nostalgia or the fact that you just don't see many Dutch restaurants got the better of me so I decided to try Van Goghs. Overall this was a very pleasant experience. The staff are friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is really nice, and the menu provides a good variety of Dutch options. We took a shot in the dark placing an order on our way through town on a cross country road trip. I found this place online and I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for amazing, delicious and original food. My husband got one of the breakfast sandwiches and I got an omelet which both came with these potato crisps. THE CRISPS ARE AMAZING! My husband and I stopped in on Memorial Day. We are of Dutch origin and were so excited when we saw the menu options! And the dishes did not disappoint; we were very happy to get a taste of "home". We tried quite a few dishes since we had a hard time deciding, and took some home to enjoy at a later date. In the restaurant we shared the bitterballen, war fries, and kroketten; all were delicious and tasted authentic. We took home an order of the nasi goreng shrimp and the meatballs with sauerkraut. What a sweet restaurant! The first Dutch restaurant I've ever eaten in! The staff were friendly and efficient! The restaurant was decorated so nicely and there was plenty of room for seating. My husband had the boterham which is a ham sandwich. It had a lot of ham! So yummy! It was served with crisps which are their chips made in-house: thin and crispy! I had the cod sandwich which was served on a roll with arugula and a tangy, mayonnaise type spread. The cod was so delicately breaded but crispy. Mine came with a carrot bisque soup which was warm, savory and delicious! It reminded me of a mild curry. We shared the pickled herring toast points. I was surprised by how much I loved them! It wasn't fishy and it had just the right amount of pickling and the pesto was great! My husband had the wild raspberry tea, and I had the white peach tea. These were iced teas and so good! So I was recommended this place by Trip Advisor so decided to come check it out. Super cute place for sure. Arrived around 2pm, place was almost empty. I noticed to the right was an area for coffee with tables and in front of the host station was the restaurant side. I did wait patiently for several minutes before being acknowledged by someone clearing plates from empty tables, she walked away, I then saw male server spot me and started walking towards me only to get called over by customer who then started showing him photos on his phone. It was a good 5 minutes longer until the same first girl who acknowledged me headed back and spotted me still there. Eventually sat, presented menu which is eclectic to say the least with a wide range of items from around the world, but definitely an over riding Dutch theme, which is different. I was spoilt for choice for sure. I ordered a latte and a few appetizers to try. The latte was unfortunately lukewarm when it arrived, was able to drink it all in one swig, maybe they don't use a thermometer, perhaps they should. Mushrooms were yummy with curry ketchup, breading was so light and delicate, then as I got lower in the dish I noticed they were swimming in oil about 1/2 inch thick, so left the rest of those. Was recommended the Dutch fries and they were delicious, gobbled everyone of them up. Next I ordered a breakfast the Frisan farmhouse, in my mind I imagined it more mixed up but it was a separate pieces on a plate then covered with dry arugula, it was different. I loved the honey cake, ham and lemon garlic béchamel, the asparagus was way to crunchy, eggs were overcooked and I've never been a prosciutto fan, still am not after trying it here. Around me the restaurant was cleaned up from what must of been a busy lunch. It was not clear who was looking after me and that was apparent by the lack of service. For once there was not a lack of staff, just a lack of someone taking responsibility for my table. The girl in the coffee area was unfortunately stuck looking after me although I was not seated anywhere over there. I'll visit again for sure, it's a cool place, got a relaxed vibe (perhaps too relaxed), food is good and drinks have potential. read more

But good the thing is, almost everyone will find something they enjoy. The price isn't bad and it's locally owned. For two people you both could eat for around 50 dollars. This would be really delicious big meal with leftovers. It has a business feel without being stuffy. Very clean, and white decor that kinda reminds me of a tea house. A few things could be improved upon, but I believe those are personal preferences. I definitely return here again to try more things on the menu. read more

The ambiance is open concept with different sections of dining areas with beautiful mural of art, the Dutch Windmill, banners, and the decorated Dutch bicycle as you enter and the mural of Van Gogh himself !
