I love an adventure. My wife is more reserved, but we decided to try Van Gogh's tonight for something different, I was NOT disappointed, excellent food, fantastic atmosphere and beautifully decorated, this is as great place to try. We got an appetizer of chicken sate with peanut sauce, very well cooked chicken skewers glazed in a delicious sauce. Our entrees were the frisan chicken salad for my wife and I had to try the pickled herring plate with beets, apples and pickled onions on a bed of greens with a side of their skillet chips with sauces to try. I haven't enjoyed a meal this well in years. Several different flavors, I could close my eyes and be taken back to my childhood. The sauces consisted of their housemade specials, from curry ketchup, my favorite, to a very good housemade mustard that my wife loved! We can't wait to go back to try the Dutch pancakes! My husband and I went for a date night. Service was good. My husband's meal (Van Gogh's Ear) was tasty. My meal (the Shimp Nasi Goreng) was super bland. I knew there would be veggies in the dish from the description, but they were all raw, which I am not a fan of. But really, the lack of any flavor to the dish was the problem. We also tried the curried fried mushroom app. It had good flavor but lots of liquid coming out of them. It was kind of a turn off to have a pool of liquid on my plate. read more

This place is absolute garbage. You will leave feeling hungry, not a great value for the price. Service is lousy. Had a cup of coffee, only offers to refill after the bill has been paid and on my way out the door. A bit elitist, as if they are actually French, thus getting offended if you try to custom order. Waiter: What would you like? Me: Pancakes Him: Which one, we have all these (that I looked at and couldn't find simply pancakes). Me: Can I get plain pancakes? Him: But it comes with a topping? Me: Ok, let me rephrase the question, can I get pancakes with nothing on them? Also, the bacon is not bacon...it is ham. When I tried to tell him that I didn't order ham, "This is bacon as it is commonly served in Europe." Ok, well in that case they commonly dont serve bacon in Europe then. The pancake was one large, thin crust pizza, pancake, not filling, not good. Go to any other place that serves pancakes, and that order alone will fill you up. Hello food-loving vegans! Now that I have your attention, don't come here. Before flying to Springfield, I made a short-list of my dining options in town. I made Van Gogh a must-go and I was THOROUGHLY disappointed from start to finish. It was a must-go because there were lots of already vegan menu items I could choose, in the location I wanted to be, I didn't have to customize anything and I knew that meant they understood what vegan meant. ATMOSPHERE It was quiet, clean, and well-decorated. It would be a great spot for a date. The service was okay, nothing to write home about. I did want to ask her about vegan breakfast options, since I wanted to come back and try more (this was before I tasted the food), but she never really came around. I didn't care too much, I figured I could just call in the next day. --- FOOD Vegan Cheese Board ($14, I think) I had ordered the vegan cheese board to share with my non-vegan friend under the assumption that a restaurant wouldn't put a cheese board on the menu if it wasn't something they were proud of. *Van Gogh Eeterie, if this is something you're proud of, I am so sorry for what I'm about to stay but it's honest* The cheese board was served with shaved carrots, red peppers, Beet Hummus, grapes, strawberries, bread slices, and 4 cheese options (I believe, I may have left something off here). The fruit was great, as one would expect. The bread was dense...plain, you know? It's really just a vehicle to transport cheese. I tried the cheese by itself first, then on the bread. Neither way worked. My friend couldn't stomach it and for me, it just fell flat and wasn't palatable but I also hate wasting food and money. I ate what I could, but it was bad. The consistency was similar to firm tofu and it tasted about that way too. Plain, cold, firm, tofu of various colors served on bread. If that floats your boat, this is your place! Liza's stamppot ($14, I think) Menu says: sautéed mushrooms & poached white asparagus over mashed frisée, leek & potato, topped with arugula & peppers & served with a side of simple greens. Reality says: very oily mashed potatoes served with some veggies on top. It tasted more garlicky than the cheese board, but honestly, everything tasted pretty much the same with different textures. I don't plan to go back, but I hate to leave such a bad review at a place accommodating vegans in the midwest... I hope the dinner menu improves. Excellent unique choice! Great atmosphere and decor, authentic food, nicely priced... this place has it all! I had the kapsalon beef. Super tasty with a little kick! The sate chicken was delicious. My daughter had a dutch pancake. I recommend it more for breakfast of course but she liked it! My husband recommends the braised beef and the apple pancake for dessert was delic! Lots of gluten free options and everyone is so nice. The only downfall is that sometimes it can be very busy and when that happens they've messed up my gluten free order, but they always fix it. They have great kombucha on tap as well. read more

We stopped in after going to the small farmer's market located in the area outside the restaurant. We came into a very contemporary dining area which was aesthetically pleasing. We asked for a bold coffee and our waitress brought a fresh carafe of some great Dutch bold coffee to " wake us up". We ate breakfast, I had the In the pigs den which was scrambled eggs with potatoes, ham bacon and sausage with toast. It was great! The waitress was funny and very helpful with the menu and coffee! Had brunch at the Van Gogh Eatery in Springfield this morning. Everything they had was amazing. I'm a vegetarian and there were many options. I got Liza's Stampot, and it was amazing. Many tables open - refused seating. STAFF NOT WILLING TO HELP THE DISABLED. Visited May 16, during the work week after Mother's Day. We visited the restaurant on the suggestion of our host. When we arrived many of the two person tables were empty. See photo. We asked to be seated at the table rather waiting in the crowded armless chair waiting area. WE WERE REFUSED. Being handicapped it was much more difficult to have to sit on armless chair in a crowed small waiting room than to sit at a table. See photos. We eventually sat at the same empty tables that remained empty during our wait. My husband had the meat balls and mashed potatoes. He said he wouldn't make a special effort to eat here again. He was not expecting a sweet gravy. I had the sunflower crepe. Basically a breakfast taco. Eggs, Canadian bacon, potatoes with a sunflower pesto on a thin pancake wrap. I like mine but it's not worth the hassle of finding parking and the waiting in a crowed waiting room. The hostess said it was because they didn't want to rush the kitchen. Sitting at a table doesn't rush the kitchen. We had no problem waiting our turn to be served. WE RECOMMEND THE KEEFER CENTER RESTAURANT SOUTH OF BRANSON located at the College of the ozarks in Hollister. They have excellent fresh food grown on site. Reasonable cost, plenty of parking. Really good! I had a pancake with savory toppings: scrambled eggs, bacon, sunflower pesto and potato crisps for a late lunch. The combo sounds odd, but works very well together. Ive never been ignored to this level. I waited so long to get cold coffee it must have sat so long before I got it. It took 35 minutes to get then waited 20 to see the waitress again since she wasn't making eye contact to let her know then she said oh wow. Just another gem that has opened on C-Street. I was astounded by the cute atmosphere and by how well lit the inside of Van Gogh's was. Most C-Street restaurants are pretty darkly lot, but there were just windows everywhere and the walls being pastel shades really helped my it feel nice and open inside. We went on a Wednesday night for dinner and it wasn't incredibly busy, but there were people in and out the whole time that we ate. Speaking of food, I absolutely loved mine. I had never even heard of prawn crisps, but they were so good! The shrimp was very nice as well. My friend got a dish that was similar to spaghetti and meatballs but it was crazy good! The meatballs were a different spice than we were used to, but we both agreed that they were amazing. After all of this food we got the pancake puffs for desert and the sauce was incredible!! We couldn't identify what was so different about it, but it was so good. I can't pronounce anything on the menu so I couldn't remember any of the names for this review, but honestly everything looks so good anyway! read more

Hidden gem? For as good as this place is, I should've waited an hour on a Saturday morning. Instead, we were seated immediately and the food was excellent! We had a variety at our table, I had the strawberry frisée salad, which I finished completely. That never happens. Hubby had the pirates of the Caribbean pancake, and it was out of this world. My kids both had lunch items with names I can't pronounce but they were excellent as well. Service was great, coffee was never empty. Prices were reasonable. This is such a beautiful and delicious restaurant! The atmosphere is so sweet and pretty and it is located in a very good part of C Street. We had to wait about 25 minutes to get a table but we walked to a little boutique while we waited. Once we came back, we were seated almost immediately. The waitress we had was so so sweet and answered any questions we had! I had the French toast dish and my mom had the Dutch pancake with powdered sugar. If you're super hungry do not go here!! Got here around 1:20 ,on a Sunday, and had to wait 10+ minuets for a table when half of the restaurant was empty. We got seated and the waitress was super friendly and very helpful but that's about the only reason for 2 stars!! Waited over an hour to get our food!! Like I say they were not busy! This was there first week being open and I understand that but that is a ridiculous wait!! I got the Breakfast Bouncer an Open Faced wheat bread topped with fried egg, ham & cheese and side fruit. The bread was extremely hard and stale. The egg ham and cheese were good. I found onion in my fruit. An hour wait, and we finished eating in less then 10 minutes because the portion size was not a lot. We were both still hungry when we left. I probably won't be going back anytime soon!! read more

We were only in Springfield for three days, and my aunt and I had dinner here twice in a row. The Amsterdam Fog was fantastic and the Fisherman's Pot was to die for!
