Very few places live up to the hype but I was very pleasantly surprised. Burgers were very good and fries were incredible. These reviews are subjective to the price range of course but much better than comparable priced chains. Line can get backed up but clears quickly. First time but not the last time. read more

Val's is a walk-in rather than a drive-in and even though you order on a self-service computer terminal this place is an awesome old school family run hamburger stand that everyone loves. I do have to admit the burgers are a little on the small side, they tend to be more greasy than juicy, and because everyone is moving so fast to keep up with the rush things are often just thrown together in a sloppy mess but I still love this place. The oversized orders of fries are the highlight of the meal, they are heavily coated with a special top secret seasoning salt that basically forces you to buy individual packs of ketchup (that's right this place charges for ketchup and still has a cult of loyal fans.) This WAS the best place in town for fries, and the burgers were pretty good once upon a time too. Unfortunately, the quality is no longer to the same par. Went tonight, fries didn't taste the same (less flavor) and the burgers were awful. Patties very, very thin, no flavor (pretty sure 95% soy), and on super thick buns. Happened upon this place while on the road for work... It's fast food style burger joint. The food is pretty good, but don't expect gourmet. The fries and shakes are excellent. Heard a lot of hype about this place when we moved to town. Left a little disappointed. The cheeseburgers are near identical to McDonald's cheeseburgers. And the gal at the front counter was not a helpful communicator. However, the touch screen ordering system was nice and quick. The fries were delicious as well, and they give a ton of fries with your order. For the price, it's a good deal. All in all, I'd rather go to 5 Guys for a better burger and fries combo. read more

When I use to live in St Cloud for college this was my GO-TO place for a great, scratch that, AMAZING burger. If you haven't been here and you drive through St Cloud often or even live in the area this is a must eat place. It is the absolute best! It has been about three years since I lived there but I went back up recently to pick up a new puppy and made it a must stop before we left back to the cities. Even after 3 years it still tastes just as good as the first time I had it. The prices are really decent and the quality of burger for being "fast food" cannot be beat! If you are craving fast food you need to eliminate McDonalds or Burger King from your mind and just get this. You walk in, order what you want off a screen, pay and wait for your meal to be made! Its super simple and eliminates the issues of having to trust someone else to make sure your order was places correctly! I haven't had one bad meal here and any time I drive past/ through or near St Cloud I will always make this one of my stops for Lunch or Dinner! read more

My husband loves to stop at this place when we pass through St. Cloud; I could take or leave it. Burgers are fine--kind of a riff on the classic McDonald's style. Get at least a double, or its all bun. The hubby and I are both big eaters, but we share regular fries, and that's plenty--they're VERY salty. I've never tried a shake. Val's has been a staple in St. Cloud since I was a kid! It's by far the best burger joint I've ever eaten at. I love that it is family owned and operated, and it always has. Their burgers and fries, or establishment haven't changed in the 30+ years I've been going there. I bring people who have never been there before, and they ask why I haven't brought them sooner! They have upgraded their ordering system from the old school telephones to a touch-screen computer system. The fries are wonderful, but only get the regular order if you are EXTREMELY hungry or have another person with you. The shakes are all amazing! They also have shrimp sandwiches ( they are good but I usually save them for Lent). The burgers are not the rag meat crap you get at muckdonalds, but rather real, flavorful, beef. I've been here a couple times before today. Each time I enjoyed the food and efficient simplicity of their ordering system. Their burgers are great, tasty and priced right. Today was busy so the customer area was packed but everyone was cool. My bacon cheeseburgers were great. I like the way they chop the pickle and onions, kinda like relish but bigger. My vanilla shake was tasty too. I'll be back, this place beats any fast food burger place. No drive thru so you lazy people can go elsewhere. read more

We practically had no food in the house so my father went here to pick some food up for us since it is near his office. Never was inside but the burgers are delicious and the buns are firm not like McDonald's where the buns are squishy. The fries were firm and had just the right amount of salt. The milkshakes were PHENOMENAL!!!! I had the pumpkin shake and it was delish! The cherry didn't really taste like the namesake at all. Stopped here on our way to Yellowstone. Fun experience, love being able to support a local place like this, but the food was just OK. My son proclaimed that it was the best burger he ever ate. I told him I thought it tasted like McDonald's. He said, "I know!" What more can I say. This is ONLY a takeout place. There's nowhere to sit and no restrooms, so if you're arriving here after hours in the car, stop and get gas first, so the kids can all go to the bathroom before lunch. read more

Been going there for 30 yrs Stopped there today they shorted me 2 cheeseburgers .Did not know until I got home . Called them up and they would not replace the 2 cheeseburgers they forgot to give in the first place .They were rude about the whole thing and said the owner wouldn't do anything about it. this is how they treat long time customers never going back. read more

I love how all the orders are placed through easy-to-use, touch-screen computer terminals. I think they have about five of them. Their fries are also super awesome. A regular fry here is like a giant-size fry everywhere else. I usually don't finish the regular fry. When you order extra fry salt (don't get the other types of salt), it comes in a small plastic bag stapled to the outside of your paper bag. That's a good system, so that you can apply the exact amount of extra salt you want to your super delicious fries. Their place is take-out only, so don't plan on eating there. Also, their place is fairly small; so, don't think you're getting in and out of there in a flash at the lunch hour. They do a great job at moving through customers, but they are also busy. Well worth the short wait. Val's is great. read more

They have a nice vintage feel to them. They make the best burgers I have ever had. They also give you a half a bag of fry with your meal.
