Not Your Grandmama's Biscuits and Gravy

Today I tried the Not Your Grandmama's Biscuits and Gravy with eggs over easy. I've been to Jule's multiple times for lunch, but this was my first breakfast experience here, and as usual, Jule's Bistro did not disappoint!! The biscuits were fluffy and delicious, the gravy savory and perfect, the eggs perfect, and served with a side of fruit, but not the typical boring melon and grapes, but rather a delightful assortment of berries, pineapple, kiwi, and grapes. So good!! Highly recommend Jules for any meal. Waitress was great, and the vibe is always cool and vibey , let's make vibey a thing with Jules as the role model.

This place was recommended by a local and it didn't disappoint. Wall are covered in tasteful art. It has a go variety of food options. Waiters are super friendly and attentive.

Biscuits and gravy, delicious! - A close-up image shows a serving of biscuits and gravy on a black plate. The biscuits are covered with a thick, creamy white gravy, with some parts of the biscuit visible underneath. The gravy appears smooth and slightly glossy. A spoon is partially visible, resting on the plate, with some gravy on it. The background includes a blurred view of a kitchen or dining area.

Great location downtown. We came early Sunday morning before the rush and had great coffee and breakfast. The fall coffee menu was nice, lattes were delicious. My wife had a classic breakfast while I tried the biscuits and gravy. The sausage gravy was delicious, the biscuit was a great base. A little more dense buttermilk layer and disnt get soggy. Sometimes biscuits are too much fill and this was perfect to enjoy the sausage and gravy.

*CELIAC, GLUTEN FREE REVIEW so many choices! this place appears to be very knowledgeable about how to handle allergies. We got the teriyaki bowl and the southwest salad. Of course we had to get the GF chocolate cake - so rich, moist, and delicious! The day we went they had a mint frosting. Be cautious with the teriyaki sauce, I made the mistake of dumping it all in before tasting!

Upon entering, I was swiftly met by a lovely young waitress who offered me either table or bar. I opted for the high-set wooden bar leaning against street-side window pains. Cars passed and pedestrians streamed by, maybe on their way back to work after, hopefully, tasty lunches and a restful break. Jules is a charming little bistro foregrounded on St. Cloud's main street and backed by First and Second Street South, two roads that mitigate the flood of traffic leaving SCSU. Sunlight meets the corner of the building and stops short of "setting the place on fire" with natural light, leaving room for hand-blown chandeliers and warm spotlights to brush Jules with a soft glow. There are drawings, paintings, and intricate bouquets of greenery decorating the walls, complimenting a soft green that breaths through the city's stark browns. Internally, Jules is lively, and a perfect setting to eat, yap, and take a deep breath. I ordered the BBQ Beef Brisket panini with a side of Sweet Chicken sopa, which comes with kettle chips and a spear pickle. The panini wasn't what I expected. Having graduated from Kansas' honorary school of amateur BBQ, I was looking for a rich, peppery flavor from the brisket, complimented by a sauce that leans into either sweet of tangy. What I received was a BBQ sauce panini with chunks of beef brisket shoved in. Safe to say, the panini didn't meat expectations, but the sourdough bread retained its crunchiness without expending its soft inner layer and aged bite - coming very close to mom's homemade loaves. The chips were chips, and my distaste for pickles shielded me from trying this one, but having known pickle-lovers, it looked delightful. Juicy and dusted in leftover kettle chip crumbs, I can imagine it was tasty. My personal favorite from Jules' Bistro was the Sweet Chicken sopa - a delightfully twisted chicken noodle soup served with yet another piece of toasted sourdough bread. The sopa noodles were texturally divine, chewy, flavorful, and easily collected with a spoon. With shredded chicken, peas, carrots, bay leaves, and a hint of tarragon, you can make an exceptional soup. But what makes Jules' Bistro stand out is the usage of Mexican sopa noodles and a touch of lime that adds, not a bite, but a bounce to the stock that keeps the pallet on its toes. It's safe to say - sopa must remain on the Jules' Bistro menu. All-in-all, Jules' Bistro is a commendable addition to the American ring of hand-crafted soul food restaurants, and is worth a step off the interstate. Perfect for a budget friendly date night, casual lunch break, or quick pitstop on your road-trippin', wayfarin' journey across the great state of Minnesota!

My $20 sandwich. It only had avocado mushrooms and sauerkraut. I opted not to pay even more for vegan cheese - A white square plate contains a serving of potato chips, a small bowl of creamy dipping sauce, a pickle spear, and a toasted sandwich with lettuce and meat. The plate is placed on a wooden table, with part of a black cloth or napkin visible at the top of the image. The sandwich is cut diagonally, showing the filling inside. The chips are piled on one side of the plate, and the dipping sauce is in a small round bowl.

Food was fine, nothing special. Prices were very expensive. I have both a dairy and gluten allergy and to have GF bread was an additional $3 and for vegan cheese it was another $2.50. $5.50 on an already $17 sandwich is kinda crazy. It would have been over $30 for a flatbread with GF and vegan cheese. Our whole meal was just over $60 and that's with only 1 person being GF. All we got was 2 sandwiches and a soup and salad combo. If the food was over the top or was larger portions maybe it would be worth it but this just wasn't. There wasn't a lot of dairy and GF options. And they couldn't substitute things out. So for the teriyaki stir fry they couldn't remove the onions. Also the paper copy menu said smashed avocados but it was actually guacamole. As someone who doesn't like onions that wasn't great either. All in all I won't be back.

Rise & Shine Wrap with ham, bell peppers, Kalamata olives, and feta. - A breakfast wrap with grill marks on the tortilla, filled with ham, bell peppers, olives, and feta cheese, is placed on a black plate. The plate also contains a small side of mixed fruit and vegetables, including blueberries, pineapple, and carrots. In the background, there is a glass of water, a cup of coffee, and a fork on a table, suggesting a breakfast setting at a restaurant or cafe.

We had been hearing great this about this restaurant for a while and finally got the opportunity to check it out - we were NOT disappointed! My husband had the mocha and the Sweet Potato & Pomegranate Bowl. The mashed sweet potatoes were the perfect texture and paired perfectly with the apple slaw and candied dates - great texture and flavor combination. I did a build your own wrap - it was stuffed with veggies, cheese, and ham, and they pressed the wrap so it was warm and had a perfect crispy texture. Great service, extremely friendly, and great ambiance. One more thing I want to note because to me it speaks to the integrity of the people and place - an older man came in who must be a regular because they knew him by name. He did not appear to have much, may have been homeless, and they welcomed him in, gave him a warm cup of coffee, some bacon, and a cookie. It was very heartwarming to see the compassion! We look forward to our next visit!

No problem, we ended up waiting, maybe 15 minutes to get a table. There were 4 of us. That wasn't an issue and the staff was great. We got seated at our table and our waiter, I believe his name was Benjamin, was awesome. Great guy, didn't pressure us to order right away. Gave us time to look and would check in on us. All around great service. He was a 5 star! Even the atmosphere, with it being busy, was what you would expect. A lot of people talking and having a good time, no problems, no issues. We were kind of set back in the corner, which I'm thankful for, because we didn't have the noise from the Brunch area. The reason for the 3 stars is because of the food. With 4 people being served, you would think they would get the fries right? They were over seasoned on everyone's plate, horribly over seasoned. You might as well have been dipping them straight into the container of whatever seasoning was on them. Of the 4 orders of French fries, we left 2 orders on the table. I ordered the Gastro Pub Bison Burger, medium. Benjamin even started it was going to have some pink in the middle, and I said yes. The ticket even stated it. I don't know why they even put it on the ticket if they're going to cook it done. The burger ended up being over cooked and dry. It was a Bison burger, so there's plenty of moisture in those burgers when cooked to medium. This thing comes out as a little nothing sized burger. I wasn't impressed with it at all. My wife's order, Spinach and Artichoke Chicken Sandwich, came out good and she ate it all and really enjoyed it. One daughter had ordered a Buffalo Chicken Wrap. She's had them before at other places and was excited to try their's. Came out ok except for the, what she stated as being too spicy. And again, the fries were over seasoned. My other daughter order a Spicy Dill Flatbread, which turned out really good. She was the only one of us who did like the over seasoned fries. Now when it comes to food, I never send anything back and i don't say anything because we might not be done with ordering. I have the biggest fear about retaliation. You hear the stories from someone you know, of possibly something being a little sketchy when food is reordered or it comes back out, so I just don't do it. I have been here before and it is pretty much the same as I remember it. The staff being great, but the food just being not worth it. The funny thing is it's the Chef's name is on the door when you come in the building. If I was him, I'd be a little embarrassed that his cooking staff can't do a medium burger and do some retraining. At least watch what the cooking staff is doing while preparing food that his name is associated with. I don't need to go back there and eat.

We sat at the bar and the short blond female bartender gave us all the looks. Now I'm not sure if that's because she hasn't traveled outside of Duelm where the population is at best 1,150. But unless you look like; Emma Stone, Morgan Wallen, Tilda Swinton or Neal McDonough, don't expect that kind sort of service. Traveling internationally and being all through the states, sometimes dining at little mom and pops restaurants can be so rewarding. We love supporting local and bringing our ones to small places. Unfortunately not the case here. Things to stick out positively was the salad bar is LEGIT! Lots of sections, two barrels of hot soup and it was clean. My wife and I ordered beers. The bartender had the WORST customer service. Her attitude and unwillingness to be kind was so off putting we almost left. But we stomached her horrible service. She said our dinners were supposed to come with rolls. We saw her walk to the kitchen but came back and said, "They ran out." Really? We understood there aren't many customers with gorgeous sugar brown skin that come through these doors. So as her tip was vastly dwindling, my walleye came out. It was ok. As being In Minnesota for my first time and trying the fish for the first time it all sat wrong. Not only were the people here rude, cold and acted as if they've never seen outsiders before, it wasn't a pleasant dining experience. And trust my wife and I were dressed very nicely with great jackets! It was fried to expert perfection and paired with fries that were far from ordinary. Just for grins I'd also ordered some ala carte jumbo shrimp, and WOW--I didn't think I could have anything that good so far from an ocean. Are there shrimp in any of their 10,000 lakes?? Who cares as long as they're as good as what I had. Nice and attentive service in the type of place I remember eating out with my grandparents when it was an actual treat.
