Osso Buco and Risotto = phenomenal

Everything about the place was amazing! Excellent service, wonderful food, and the piano added to the soothing and elegant ambiance without being pretentious.

I am a regular at CR, so I am quite familiar with the menu, servers, owner, normally eating at CR 1-2 times per month. I regularly try items and last night, for an anniversary, I ordered the 8 oz. Lobster Tail Trio dinner (see menu item pic, attached). What I received was totally unexpected - notably, that there was no lobster tail on the plate, only a lobster tail shell. Let me explain, and see if you agree that I should have received a lobster tail, as I believe the menu item description is very deceiving. The owner explained that the lobster tail was actually chopped up into little pieces and 1) placed on the shrimp that was in the shell. Yes, as expected, there were shrimp in the shell with small bits of what I expected was a bit of lump crab as the menu item describes it; and, 2) mixed in with the Mac and Cheese. Yes, the M&C did have what likely was the lobster mixed with it, but since is described as "lobster Mac and Cheese" I didn't think I was donating my 8 oz lobster tail to make it! The owner provided a $20 gift certificate and didn't charge for our crème brûlée, but for a $56 lobster tail dinner (what I expected when I ordered), I felt poorly treated as a regular customer that simply read the menu and expected to get what it says.

We've dined here many times, and the food always impresses. Our most recent visit was for Valentine's Day. We had the stuffed shrimp appetizer, lobster chowder (the best I've ever had), followed by filet mignon and a lobster tail, and shared strawberry cheesecake for dessert. They also had a great pianist, which added to the romance of the evening. The food was fantastic, and the service was excellent. Highly recommend!

Cafe Renaissance is my type of restaurant. It has all the elements of a great place to dine. It is elegant, has a great selection of quality food, and the service was top notch. - Kudos to our waiter, Sebestian! To top it off we had live piano playing the whole time during dinner, which was so romantic. We enjoyed a lovely dinner here on a friday night. To start off we shared the Meditterrean salad. It was fresh, perfectly marinated with olive oil, and a decent sprinkle of kalamta olives. Then the soups came. I had the delectable, creamy, rice, and filling butternut squash soup. My lovely companion had the vegetable barley soup. Now for the main couse, but oh wait- Sebastian gave us some citrus flavored icey to clear our pallette. I enjoyed every bite of the Guinnes Short Ribs that I could handle. My dear thoroughly enjoyed the Lamb Shank and we both had enough to take home for a second serving. For dessert we had some Baklava. It was a lovely sweet treat to top off the evening. If and when I return to St. Cloud, this restuarant will be at the top of my list. Whether its a special occasion or not. It is just worth it.

Not an everyday thing, and not inexpensive, but - a chef's table in Alexandria Minnesota? We were totally there. A five course meal, wines accompanying, and it was totally delightful. I have finally found a restaurant with a capital R. A restaurant with its own identity and spirit. Not like most restaurants that copy one another. Another admirable thing is that, within their identity, they remain true to themselves without resorting to generic menus, unlike many places that add something more common for fear of not being understood. This is not the case here. They maintain their personality, and for that I congratulate them. It would take pages to explain each dish, which I won't do since I invite my readers to personally visit this cozy and personalized restaurant with a spectacular range of dishes and flavors. Often one finds places with exaggerated flavors that are too over-the-top, spicy, or excessive. This is not the case here. Everything has absolute balance, down to the milligram--Google it. I sampled 12 dishes, each more delicious and more personalized than the last. Organizations like Michelin or James Beard should pay a visit and determine whether it deserves a star. I've already given it one... Not to mention the variety of drinks and wines. Many restaurants that claim to be high-end stick to Californian wines. I have nothing against wines from that state. But for connoisseurs, we know there are many more around the globe. I was amazed by the variety of spirits and the house-made cocktails. Now, the most important part for me: it was my first time there. But I felt as if I'd known them forever. I felt welcomed and treated with great hospitality. I said I was going to write just a little, but this place deserves so much more. Until next time...

My recommendation: plan to enjoy a delicious dinner at make plans to stop. Suzette's is a family owned restaurant serving up high quality cuisine with a focus on surf, turf, and exquisite pasta dishes with an European flair. Suzette's owner and chef is Banrith Yong, who has quite the heartbreaking and resilient story of emigrating from Cambodia. It's worth the read on their website, trust me (suzettesrestaurantmn.com). Short story is that he is classically trained and you can tell from the food and presentation. Back to the food... Banrith makes homemade soups and salad dressings and seeks out fresh veggies for his dishes. AND, can't forget to praise the desserts - made in house by their daughter Lena, who owns her own business (Lemon & Von), specializing in crepe cakes. It's not a cheap night out, but it's also not expensive for food of this quality. I find the prices are approachable and good value for the tastes and treats of the meal you'll receive. I've read some of the negative reviews that keeps this from being 5 stars overall. Those reviews frustrate me. No, it's not a glitzy pretentious French restaurant. But this is an emigrant, family owned, heart forward, delish and tasty treasure for the SW metro. We have been patrons for the past few years after finally making a stop... so glad we did! We were greeted at the entrance, jackets were taken, and drinks offered while we waited. Seating is around the small, intimate bar where you observe the chefs preparing every dish for the night. The servers are shared so you don't get just one person for the night. We are not wine people, but I'd still recommend doing the wine pairings ,which is an extra add on. It was really fun to learn about the different wines and how they tasted with the plates. There is some down time in-between courses but nothing ever felt too long. It seemed like a perfect time to converse and enjoy watching the chefs do their thing. It took about 2.5hrs to finish our nine course meal. The courses were so tasty! I was a little nervous because of previous reviews but we really felt like every dish was put together nicely. We were so impressed with how intricate each dish was and how many ingredients came together. A favorite was the wagyu ribeye. Just so delicious. There is a lot to say about this restaurant, and most of it is very good. The ambiance had perfect energy. It felt lively, but never loud or overwhelming. It struck a really nice balance for a special night out. You could comfortably enjoy the experience and conversation. The service was exceptional. Not just friendly, but incredibly knowledgeable. Every course and every pairing was explained in detail, and the staff clearly knew their craft. Service - they absolutely delivered. We chose The W.C. Whitney Menu. I had the Premium Wine Pairing, which was excellent and very well done. My wife chose the Temperance Pairing since she does not drink alcohol. This was one of the few disappointments of the evening. Many of the drinks were designed to mimic the taste of cocktails and wine, while my wife does not care for the taste of alcoholic drinks. When it came to the food, there was a range. Some dishes were truly outstanding and worthy of Demi's reputation. Some were good but not exactly great. And honestly, a few were mediocre. With a tasting menu, you expect some variation, but at this level and at this price, mediocre does not cut it. Here's what it really comes down to. I would rate the experience itself 5-stars. But the cost of the evening did not come close to matching what was delivered. I was not looking for, or expecting value! We spent over $700 for the evening. Demi is very good. The service is exceptional. The ambiance is awesome. Much of the food is outstanding. But in my opinion, the overall experience did not justify the extremely high cost.
