Perfect place if you're looking for a quick burger but dread going to one of the big chain places. Its an unassuming little shack of a place, which is all part of the appeal. Love the ordering kiosks (cuz dealing with people, nah.) and that you can customize your burger down to if you want a lot or a little ketchup. They give you an outrageous amount of salty delicious fries and the shakes are thick and yummy. Also very well priced for what you are getting. Val's is a St. Cloud icon, and with good reason! Call ahead for quicker service although I've never waited more than 10 minutes for a family order. I don't recommend ordering anything larger than a small fry with your burger, they have always been extremely generous with those. read more

Val's Rapid-Serv is a great little burger join on the east side of St. Cloud. They are in a cozy little building that consists of an entrance, a wait room, and kitchen. It is very basic (and I'm sure it helps keep their prices so reasonable) but I wouldn't call it a shack, contrary to other reviewers here. No dine-in. The burgers are simple, greasy, and delicious. The same can be said of the fries, except that they use special seasoning to guarantee a unique experience. Orders are placed on one of three touch screens by the customer themselves, adding to the uniqueness of your visit. I highly recommend the burger of your choice (you can customize it however your little heart desires), a shake (many different choices as well) and their LARGE fries (because they are absolutely delicious and you get twice as much as the regular for only a few cents). Val's provides a (almost certainly engineered) experience by choosing to operate out of a tiny building and to have customers fill orders themselves to create a unique experience, and also to probably keeps costs down. This is crave-worthy food! Stick with ordering the small fries, they fill half the bag either way. I love how easy it is to personalize your order- down to how much ice is in your soda! Okay, another thing crossed off the bucket list. The place was fairly crowded at 2:00p.m. I actually like their service concept of the customer ordering on a touch screen and paying by credit card. Very efficient! However, that's where the overall experience comes to a halt. Locals I chatted with while waiting for my food are very proud of their "well kept secret" I was far from impressed. Their signature dish, French fries are extremely salty. Too salty for me to eat more than a dozen individual fries. They give you a generous, greasy portion loose in a paper bag. After my dozen fries, I threw the rest away. I couldn't take the excessive salt. It would be nice if they allowed customers the option of unsalted fries which they do not. "The Works" cheeseburger was also a disappointment. A very thick, soft bun with a very thin hamburger patty, a cheap processed cheese food slice, topped with a relish of chopped pickle/onion, mayo, mustard and ketchup. It wasn't anything special. In fact, I threw more than half of it away. The caramel shake was pretty good. It was thick and had a good flavor. If your in the mood for a greasy burger with loads of salty French fries this is your place. Walk in and order with a touchscreen. Pattys are kinda small so I do the double cheeseburger. There is no where to sit except outside so it's mostly for pickup orders but people also eat in their car. I like how they dice up the pickles for better topping distribution. read more

What a great little joint. I've been coming here off and on since I moved to St. Cloud ten years ago or more. They've been super friendly and fast every single time without ever missing a beat. It's little places like this that keep the small town vibe going strong, even though big corporate giants like McDonalds and BK are less than a mile away. We visited Val's at prime time for lunch so the lot and building were just packed. But we got in and were able to submit our orders within 5 minutes and less than another 5 minutes later we had our food. Our delicious, worth-the-hour-drive food. Val's french fry salt is destined to be featured as a mind control substance in a future 007 movie. Just thinking about it now my lips are tingling. Groovy touch screen ordering system, the shake machine might look like the soap dispenser at the car wash but the flavors are solid and the consistency allows them to be sucked through a straw without having to microwave them. Val's is a wonderful little gem! An old school hamburger shop that has been in the same little blip-on-the-map building (& still run by the original creator's son) since 1959, how can you not love and support a community icon such as Val's? Counter service only, no drive through here... When you enter you place your order on one of four touch screens and may pay there by credit or debit, or use cash when your order is up. There is no seating, so you have to bring it home, eat in the car, or go to a local park for a picnic, but the service is fast. The burgers are okay, extremely greasy, but the fries are awesome and the portions are huge (a regular fry is enough for two) and the shakes are good. The staff wear old fashioned paper hats & the food is all tossed in a grease stained paper bag. This place is worth a visit just for the nostalgic quality even if burgers & fries aren't your thing! read more
