If you ever find yourself in the St Cloud area do yourself a favor and grab a quick bite from Val's Hamburgers! The place is a tiny little takeout only joint with a very fun retro sign out front. There is the option to order online ahead of time or at 1 of the 2 kiosks in the lobby. The staff is friendly and the food is usually pretty quick. The prices cannot be beat! Super great value! I don't get the hype. Having recently moved to St. Cloud everyone's saying this is the spot to try. So I have. Twice. And I'm not impressed. The shakes are TERRIBLE. Just awful. The burgers themselves are small but they're good. The fries I could take or leave. Nothing special. But their ordering system via tablet or phone? AWFUL. A 1990's style web UI disaster. I hope they're not paying a lot for that service because it is ROUGH. and both times that wait was long. I just don't get how this is such a well known place that's supposed to show off Saint Cloud. Small little spot that reminds me of a counter-service Dairy Queen. They make their burgers fresh to order. Standing room only, so don't expect to eat inside. The double cheeseburger was solid. Similar to a McDouble, but slightly higher quality. Fries were also quite good. Well salted, crispy. Strawberry shake that reminds you of something from your childhood. I used to frequent this place occasionally in the 1990's when I lived in St Cloud. One thing that was really good was their shrimp burger. What the helll happened? For one thing, no tartar sauce was on it. 2nd it was more like a shrimp cake with red pepper, weird seasoning and this thick almost country fried steak batter. I dipped it in ketchup and it was really nasty. Spouse also tried it and agreed. Their fries are always good and plentiful. You order at a kiosk and they call the last 4 numbers of your phone number. Everything is made to order and takes 20 minutes and you literally stand in a small room. The burgers are also apperts frozen patties. See no reason to return, unless I want salty fries. read more

First timer- I ordered online (easy) on a Monday at 1:30pm. Went to pick it up and the place was packed. Good sign. I ordered a double cheeseburger, reg fries, and a large chocolate shake. I didn't have to wait long and everything came out correct. The shake was fine but the fries- SO good! And plenty of them. Burger was great. I haven't seen or had a better meal for the price! I was introduced to Val's a few years ago by a friend while we were on our way up to the cabin. I immediately fell in love and now my husband and I make it a point to stop anytime we are passing through. Their burgers are unassuming but SO FREAKING DELICIOUS. Fries are perfectly crispy and salty. And the milkshakes are a perfect way to finish the meal. And everything is extremely affordable and ready quickly. You can place an order online for pickup and that's the way to go as the interior is pretty small, usually crowded, and standing room only. The staff is always so kind as well! Go to Val's. Amazing food, It only lasts a few minutes in my family. The people working there are nice and very hard working. The place is always hopping full of customers eager to get their food, everyone is happy to wait because of the quality of the service. Love that we have couple of good local mom and pops burger joints in town. Val's been around for 62 years and it's still around to serve loyal customers. It's a simple process...call in to order or order online because you can't go in there currently to order. It's a small joint only for pick ups. Get their fries...so good with just enough crunch! We got the Double cheeseburger...fluffy soft bun, thin juicy patties with cheese in between and you add condiments to your liking so we added fried onions, ketchup and pickles. We also got the fish burger. Save room for a good shake...they have a wide variety of delicious creamy milk shakes. We ordered the butterfinger shake...delicious! Don't expect anything gourmet here...it's simple, delicious and nostalgic. Go there to support the business. read more

This is the divey-est of fives of hamburger joints. You order via a computer and wait for your number to be called. There is no sitting in the restaurant, but the waiting area is air-conditioned. The menu is small--focusing on the items they do very well. The hamburgers are DELICIOUS! They're in expensive, but not very filling. Buy several or at least the triple. read more
