I love this place. Val services not only my car, but my parent's and other family member's cars. Val's prices are very reasonable. He often times tries to save me money and will offer me options if he thinks the price for the parts will be too expensive. I went to ask about my catalytic converter and to see if it was ready for smog. The man rudely asked "well what's wrong with it" as if that wasn't my whole concern and question? After explaining that, he finally came to check with his monitor and he told me to forget my catalytic converter, there were 4 other things wrong. He told me this AS he was walking away. I asked for clarification and he didn't even respond. I just got back in my car and left. The guy was completely useless and rude. Almost seemed like he discounted me as soon as he saw how I looked. read more

I had taken my car here before several times for smog check and to get my shocks/struts swapped and although they aren't the most charismatic, they got the job done and charged a decent rate. That's why I'm giving 2 stars and not 1. I took my car on a Saturday at 12:30 to see if he could take a quick look and see where my car was leaking from and to confirm if this is something he could take care of in his shop at a later date. He said he closed at 1 and to come back on Monday even though they weren't servicing any cars (and they supposedly close at 6 on Saturdays). I show up early on Monday and tell them I have a leak. He asks me what is it?? I tell him it seems like red fluid and could be oil. He says he doesn't work on transmissions there (even though his sign says he does). I asked if he wanted to take a look at it at all in case I'm wrong and he says no lol. Business must be booming. I got a diagnostic within 5 min from a place I trust to do my oil changes. I would have gladly had it serviced by them but they're only a lube place. Called again to see if they would be able to service that and once they confirmed they did, I smiled because they just lost a customer. Never going back there again. read more

Don't waste your time. Although I'm sure many of you had a great experience here, I definitely didn't. We took a older car in for a smog check. The car did not pass the smog check, and I was charged. Something didn't feel right, so I took my car to another Auto center and it passed the smog check. I was informed that usually there is no fee that is charged when your car doesn't pass the check. It was really upsetting that I was tricked. Not sure what happened, but wanted to share my experience. read more

WARNING BEFORE GOING HERE READ THIS WARNING I went here to get my oil changed for my car. He came back to me and almost changed more stuff on my car without any permission. In the end I got my new oil in my car but got charged 180 dollars. I could have made a good choice and went to a different area where they charge 40 to 80 bucks so if I were you I wouldn't make the same mistake I did. Smog test time again, and this time I got the test at a different auto shop. For whatever reason, my regular mechanic's shop no longer offers the smog testing, so I was referred to Val's Auto, which happens to be in my neighborhood. When I arrived, the owner was very welcoming and, without a doubt, I realized this was the cleanest auto shop I've ever seen. Val's Auto is a small shop but its professional, clean, repairs both foreign and domestic cars, the mechanics are ASE certified, and the services are reasonably priced. It's rare that people come across honest mechanics, so this rarity will be tough for me, as I'm torn between using my regular mechanic and this new mechanic. Though I only came to this shop for a smog test, I was so impressed with their ethics, honesty, and professionalism, that I can't help but give them their due credit and want to return for more auto service. My smog test took less than 30 minutes and the price was only $29.95. The owner even referred me to a local AAA office to renew my registration. It is really hard to find an honest mechanic any where. I have a 1999 Jaguar and the air conditioning went out. The pipe from the compressor that connects to the second pipe that goes to the front port is very difficult to R&R, I really should say extreme difficult to remove and replace!!!. There is a lot of work to get it done. Val got it done and explained what he had to and provided me the old parts. Got recommended from my girlfriend for Val's and have no complaints. Professional and more affordable than other options and almost even more importantly was attentive and fixed what I needed without trying to add anything like some mechanics do. They fixed my alternator for less than I was expecting, and after I actually had a problem with the brake lights the next day and they fixed it quickly to ensure I didn't have any more battery problems. Great Star Smog shop, honest mechanic will help you pass your smog. If not they will instruct you on what you need to do to pass.

If you're in the area, you can't go wrong performing your smog check at Val's. I took my parents' car down the street last month, paid more and it took longer. Today I was driving by and happened to catch them with an empty bay. They have the new ODB sensor equipment which means the entire process takes about 5 minutes to complete. If your car was made before 2000 you'll need to spin the old dyno which takes longer. read more

Mr. Val is wonderful, professional and trustworthy person. I came to his shop to check my engine light VSC & Track off. When I introduced myself and said that I used to go to him at Arco station where he used to work. Now that he owns this place. He immediately acknowledged me and I had a warm reception. He checks the problem and advised me to observe it for a week if lights comes back I will have to go back to him and he assures me that it is not a big of a deal what the problem is. Went in without an appointment at 5pm on Friday to get a SMOG TEST. Was quoted over the phone it would be $40 including the certificate for all cars with the year 2000 and up. Took only 10 min. They have a nice waiting area with chairs and a television. Very friendly service. Val was nice. Another smog place just down the street called "Glendale Smog and Test Only" on Colorado is very busy and slow to respond but they quoted me $58. Val's is cheaper and faster! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I would have given them 0 stars if I could. I took my car here to get an annual smog check. I didn't know that a car will automatically FAIL IF YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. The technician at Val's should have known that prior to testing my vehicle. They tested it anyway and surprise surprise it failed! When I brought my car back in to re-test- I asked them why they tested my vehicle even though my check engine light was on? Their response was "we must have missed it". WHAT??
