Now, he is in La Jolla during the week at UCSD, we still take his car to Startech for repair. We couldn't find any equivalent to Startech in La Jolla and surroundings. Not a bad place. Prices are generally decent. The main guy that works there isn't that friendly. Their customer service skills aren't  the greatest, but they get the job done. I've had Smog Checks done here several times over the years. The last time I was there the guy quoted me a certain price. And then when it came time to pay he said it was a higher price. I reminded him that he quoted me a lower price, then he did give it to me for that lower price. read more

We have only ever had good experiences here- the next garage up the road tried to charge triple for a job we had to get done. Massis is direct and we have found him to only ever be honest. We are grateful someone recommended startech on a neighbourhood group otherwise no doubt we would have had to run the gauntlet of all the less honest shops in Glendale. It is a pretty small shop but they can handle most jobs and the hourly rate is significantly less than the dealerships who we have only had bad rip off experiences with- give me an independent mechanic any day of the week. I dod this review when i saw Jackie's 1 star- honestly......i bet that car did need 1500 of repairs because they tell it how it is and these are straight fair people to deal with. read more

I always come here for my car's smog check and last month I came back for the oil change service. I always bring my own oil and was charged a reasonable price for the labor and filter. The owner was upfront about the wait time because he didn't have the filter available and had to have it delivered. Excellent no bs service just the way some of us prefer. read more

Came here because I was trying to be cheap. Brake service labor 50 bucks, bought my brake pads from auto zone. Came here to change my brakes because of a squeaking noise. Drove off the shop brakes were fine and few hours later i heard some grinding. I couldn't take the car back til Monday because they were closed on Sunday. Today when I came back to have them check my brakes again, the owner was giving me attitude and was telling me I brought cheap parts. He was insulting me telling me I must have bought the pads for 20 bucks. He jacked the car up. Took off the back wheel, whacked the rotor with a hammer and said yeah it's your cheap part. I had the front brakes changed so idk why they checked the rear. I just left disappointed. He was rude and unhelpful. My brakes are worst. Not trustworthy, definitely took advantage because I'm a female. I'm so upset but I'm not surprised. Don't come here unless you're Armenian. Otherwise expect your car to come out worst then when you came in. read more

I have taken my car here before for a smog check. It is the same everytime. There is no wait. It only cost me $40 and 10 minutes in time. My car passed everytime. This place is hard to find. The entrance does not face Glendale Ave. It is off to the side through a driveway. You have to look hard to see their smog check sign and banner. It is totally worth it if you need to get in and out fast! read more

Had a car accident up the road from this place. It came up on a search for auto shop, which I assumed would bring up places with mechanics that might be able to help me. This place was closed at the time, so I drove my car cautiously to a lube place one block away and had to leave it for two nights. On Monday, I called this place about bringing my car by, and the guy told me to do so. I drove half an hour to where I had to leave my car, carefully drove it over to Startech, and the guy said, "I'll have a look. But I don't know if I can get the hood up." I said, "I just want an itemized estimate of what needs to be done." And he said, "Okay, you can leave it here, I'll call you." He calls me two hours later to say that he's not a body shop (although the place sure looks like one and they seemed to be doing body work on another car when I got there) and he can't get the hood up, so I need to take it to a body shop. I was confused, since he made it seem like he could work on the car. If he couldn't do anything and knew from the start that he couldn't repair the car, he should have told me, since it's quite a drive to get there and now move the car again. Had car trouble while passing through Glendale, went to a repair shop and estimate was very high to install new air conditionair. Man on street recommended Startech Auto Repair. Went there and estimate was half the price and owner stated he would only repair what was necessary. Masis did the job, car runs great and no funny business about what was needed. I'm 56 years old, started wrenching on cars when I was 10 with my dad. I am very particular about my vehicle and who works on it. Abut 8 years ago when I got a BMW a friend recommended this place. They performed as I put above, 5 stars, and have ever since as they did today. But I stress, they are this good with any brand car, knows them all inside out. Since then Sam has worked on my Porsche, Toyota', my Silverado company truck, my Jaguar and my Mercedes AMG. In addition he works on my ex wife's G35, my girlfriends Pilot and another friends Audi after I referred them. I like and buy a lot of cars and I know what I'm doing but never buy anything until I talk to Sam to get his thoughts on whatever model it is. Once he talked me out of a certain model year because he said I would spend too much time bringing it to him. He will never over charge or do any work he shouldn't. In fact, I've had him talk me out of doing stuff he said I didn't need to do yet. Obviously, I recommend them. read more
