Lucky was very rude and unhelpful. I was recommended by Just Tires to go over and ask a question about my AC. It was not blowing air out the vents, but sounded like the blower was running while the car was off. Was unsure if it would drain my battery. I told him my problem and he said that he was too busy to service it today. I asked if he could just listen to sound in my car, parked 15 feet away from where we were standing in the garage, to recommend if it was something that needed to be addressed immediately. He told me again he was too busy. I asked one more time, ensuring him I just needed an opinion and the car was right there. Again, he told me he was too busy. This whole conversation took place while he was washing his hands and was longer than if he just looked at the car. Later that day, I went to another shop after and they inspected the problem and gave me a quote within 5 minutes. I'm not expecting Disney-like cheery customer service, but some courtesy would be appreciated. I do not recommend taking your vehicle here, there are plenty of other shops around. read more

I took my Mercedes' in yesterday for a Tune up and was impressed with how professional and informative they are. I spoke to Robert on the phone before heading over. He was courteous and explained everything thoroughly. Once there, Nathaly took great care of us. They are prompt, professional and trustworthy. Under new management. I've been a loyal customer to Dyrness but our last visit has me questioning their honesty. Had them check the suspension on a Prius which was showing signs of wear and I was told it was "shot" and had to "get it all replaced." I'm not dumb in the toolbox but I also don't have a lift. Got two other opinions (other mechanic + Toyota) to find out the suspension is fine even though it's past Toyota's service date for suspension. Not a fan of mechanics contributing to the bad reputation of mechanics. read more

Oh boy... Let me just take this opportunity to offer a rebuttal to the numerous high-star reviews of this shop. I left my car overnight at Dyrness for some mechanical work. As it turns out it was raining all that week like mad and the next day I returned to Dyrness to retrieve my vehicle. So I pay my bill, get the keys, and trudge through the downpour to my car across the parking lot. That's where I discovered they'd left my driver's door window down and that the whole driver's side of the car was and inch and a half deep in water. So I trudge back and tell the guy and he goes, "What'd you do?" Um, nothing... He follows me out, takes a look inside the car, sees the lake inside and says, "Was it like that when you brought it in?" Yeah, that's right, I drove a f'n FLOODED car into your shop and YOU DIDN"T NOTICE while driving it on and off the lifts. Idiot, right? Wait, it gets better... if by "better," you mean, "worse." Anyway, they get one of the brothers--Dyrness is run by two brothers--and he starts trying to sell the, 'You brought it in this way.' So I steel up and lay down the fact that they'd had my car for a day and a half and it wasn't a Detroit Water Jug when I brought it in. He can't argue this. So, annoyed, he asks, "What do you want us to do about it?" Um, I dunno, how about GET A WET-VAC AND SUCK OUT THE WATER! They do this. He tells me not to bother coming back if my carpet stinks later, "That isn't our problem." I drive away. The rain keeps coming. All week, in fact. My car keeps filling up. Over and over I wet-vac the standing pool out of the driver's side. Over and over it comes back. Turns out that it wasn;t the open window that had flooded my car but that somewhere over the course of my vehicle's stay at their lot somebody, somehow, dislodged the front window and broke the silicone seal along the top. Now every time it rains the water leaks through the top seal, down through the head liner and finally pools from the accelerator pedal to the back seat. No, it WASN'T a problem before, thanks for asking. Two days later I call Dyrness, get transferred to brother #2. He starts YELLING at me, telling me Dyrness Excuse #1 (I drove the vehicle onto the lot filled with water), before segueing into Dyrness Excuse #2 (It isn't our fault), and closes the show with Dyrness Accusation #1 (I'm of Questionable Character and trying to steal from them). Good times. It's pretty clear I wasn't getting a repair from this shop and I just ended up taking it elsewhere and getting the window reset and a new bead of silicone. Fifty bucks. No big deal.... at least to the shop I took it to. But the manner by which the brothers handled this was, like, abusive boyfriend level. No, seriously, like, 'Farrah Fawcett burns you in your bed at night' level. I cannot recommend you RUN AWAY from this shop fast enough. read more

"Duuuurness", not to be confused with Dryness, was a great place to bring my Jeep. I was able to get the vehicle in for problem assessment on short notice, and Dyrness service advisors Arlene and Jenny were forthright with vehicle updates and cost discussion in person and through text. When it was found that my vehicle would be needed until next morning, Jenny immediately intervened in my ride seeking to call an Uber and insured that they would accept a car seat for my 2 year old daughter. Upon pick up of my vehicle the next day, Arlene went over the services rendered gracefully. Promptness, clarity, kindness, responsiveness and friendliness are all qualities exhibited by Arlene, Jenny and the mechanics on staff and my Jeep is back to running as smooth as it was new. read more

I've been coming here since 2003 when the Dyrness Brothers owned it. Fabian (owner) is about as nice as anyone I've met his mechanics are so easy going and really take their time finding out difficult problems and I've had many over the years. I own classic cars and these guys have done disc brake conversions tons of custom work fabricated parts you name it. I have had 83 cars since 1977 and highly recommend this place whether you car is new or a classic. They are also honest and back up their work if you have a problem. If you want a dirt cheap mechanic I suggest you take your ratchet a** down to Pico and look for a crackhead workin out of his garage and a toolbox that looks like vintage Sears 1974. Maybe then you can get a tune up for 19.95 and get some change back. read more

Not sure about other reviewers' experiences. I can only speak for myself. I have two older cars - a '97 Jeep and an '87 Toyota. And I now take them to only one place: Dyrness on Central. First off, the place is AMAZINGLY clean and squared away. I've rarely seen garages (even at dealerships) this clean and organized. They have a huge parts department and their staff is incredibly nice. I know they're under new ownership. And I have since recommended these guys to two good friends -one who lives in Studio City and one who lives in the Wilshire area. They both now make the drive and swear they wouldn't go anywhere else. This place is old school in the best sense of the word. And they actually cost less than other places I've been to. I wish every business in L.A. County was this passionate about their craft. read more

This place is hidden behind a big tire shop in Glendale. I didn't think it'd be a good shop to have my car smog checked, but boy am I glad I gave them a try. The staff was extremely pleasant, and accommodating. The price was inexpensive and competitive, and the turnaround was expeditious. I will definitely be back for any other automotive needs. I've been bringing my car to Dyrness for about 7 years. They used to be my neighborhood mechanic (which was very convenient). I've since moved away, but keep bringing my car for service, since I've been working nearby. I drive an aging Honda which is beginning to feel its almost-two-decades on the road. The friendly and helpful people at Dyrness have resurrected my car several times in the past year, and I'm very appreciative. It can be a little hard to get there while they're open, so I try to take care of as many of my car's needs as I can with each visit. When they're diagnosing my car in their shop, they're really great about calling or texting as they go, to let me know what needs repair and how much it will cost, and to get my authorization to move forward, so there aren't surprise costs when I go to pick up my car, and I don't feel like they're trying to upsell me on services I don't need. After a recent big set of repairs, they followed up with me a week later to make sure everything was running smoothly, which was a nice added level of care/attention. read more

They recently "repaired my Model A. I am pissed that the door was not fixed correctly, and that there is a big gash in the fender. I later found out from a locksmith that the prior restoration people broke the door handle lock and Dyrness couldn't have fixed without major work and time, so I am better off getting it done elsewhere since I have moved out of state. The gash in the fender was probably done by the guy who moved it on the flatbed. Prior to that they were AWESOME! Take your car there for repairs! read more

they may be ok for basic smog checks... but when it comes to full service, its HORRIBLE. I recently had them work on my car and after 2 days it went bad. WORSE than it was when it was brought it. I called back explaining the problem and jack treated me like a complete IDIOT. Not as someone who payed him a significant amount of money to have something fixed. Pretty much gave a the worst attitude i ever experienced . I believe you should treat your customer with respect, and not take it as a blow to your ego when someone comes back with a genuine concern over the quality of the work performed. I own a 1992 Volvo wagon, and as reliable as it's been, on occasion it needs some work. Fabian and the guys at Dyrness have always done the job extremely well. All the guys know what they're doing and don't cut corners. They also don't upsell you or fleece you for things you don't need. I've had suspension work, oil changes, brake stuff and all sorts of fixes here and the guys know what they're doing. I've seen the negative reviews but those are all from when the business was under different ownership. Brought in my Jeep Liberty because the engine light was on. After correcting the issue, the light came on again a few days later. The mechanics diagnosed the problem--faulty part--replacing it with a part from a different supplier. I have been going to Fabian and the crew at Dyrness for over 3 years. I've had them work on my volvo and VW repeatedly. They are quick to come up with solutions, always get me in and out and - the most important part - I trust them. The other customers I have met at Dyrness are good people. They are the kind of people that you'd expect to meet at a neighborhood bbq - they are chillers, they have regular cars - are working - they have car seats in the back. you get my drift. There is a community around this garage, and that may not mean much to some people - but to me that means a lot. So if you have a set of broken control arms, or bushings, or you transmission is slipping, or your tires are wearing thin, or you need a quick oil change and filter and maybe someone to give your ride a bit of a once over to let you know what is coming down the pipe. Fabian, the new owner, knows his stuff, always provides a fair and accurate estimate, explains the anticipated problem and the work done, and has it done promptly. Once, they made a small wiring mistake in a repair, and repaired it promptly and for free when I went back, accepting their responsibility without question. They have a waiting room, and have provided me a lift home and even come and gotten me to pick up my car (I live about 10-15 minutes away). Even though the guy here seems nice, he took my money and didn't fix my car. I had a smog problem. After doing a little bit of work on it, the guy here referred me to a test-only station that he said "works really hard to get cars passed." When I failed the test at the place he recommended, the test-only station told me my car wasn't even close and I should take it back to Dyrness. Fortunately, I took it somewhere else, where they told me my car was very close to passing and only needed a very small amount of work. Like I said, the guy here seems very nice, but the facts look very suspicious. I brought my 1967 Pontiac to Dyrness for an engine analysis because I heard from another auto repair shop that one of Dyrness' mechanics (Brian) was very knowledgeable about carburetors. Dyrness performed a thorough diagnostic of the engine and carburetor and told me what components needed repaired or replaced. Owner Fabian discussed my options but did not try to push a repair job. Fabian was very accommodating and even game me a ride home in nearby Eagle Rock while my car was being worked on. From my experience, it is apparent that these mechanics are very experienced, knowledgeable, and honest. I had a very positive experience here today! I have a Saab, and if you know anything about cars, you know 1. they're always a pain in the ass to fix, and 2. they're nearly impossible to get parts for now because they went bankrupt. Add the fact that mine is a convertible and my vehicle is pretty much mechanic kryptonite. After calling around to literally 25-30 places, I found someone that agreed to just LOOK at the car. They referred me to an auto body shop, they referred me to an upholsterer, who referred me to Dyrness. I took my car in this morning after speaking with Fabian yesterday briefly. After they dropped me at home, I received a call a few hours later explaining what the problem was, and what part was needed to rectify. After doing a little research, I decided on a not-so typical way of resolving the problem, and Fabian was more than willing to work with me on getting the car fixed over the course of the next few weeks. From the east side of LA, this drive is not at all problematic [about 10-15 minutes with moderate traffic from Echo Park,] and an honest mechanic is worth the drive. read more
